In most types of plywood, the grain of every other layer is laid parallel to the first. Therefore, to maintain a balance from one side of the panel to the other, an uneven number of veneers is used. Some plywood, however, is produced with an even number of veneers, an example being softwood plywood made up of four or six plies (veneers) with two of the veneers laid parallel form a thick center core. The variety of panel types is illustrated in Figure 1-6.
