Some individuals deem that it should be cancelled or replaced by other programs. These young people focus their attention on other forms of celebration instead if immersing themselves in TV. Despite that, the majority of middle-aged people and senior citizens uphold the importance of the traditional performance. The most striking feature of this gala is its traditionally close link with ordinary people’s lives. Most of people view this gala as an annual staple on the Eve of this traditional Chinese Spring Festival. They all have a restless night and glue their eyes on the television.

Part BInterlocutor:I’m going to give each of you a picture and I’d like you to first briefly describe and then give your comment on what you see in the picture.(put picture 1 in front of both candidates)Candidate A, this is your picture. You have three minutes to talk about it.Candidate B, listen carefully while Candidate A is speaking. When he/she has finished, I’d like you to ask him/her a question about what he/she has said.Candidate A, would you like to begin now, please?Candidate A:(Three minutes)on the top of the two pictures is the moon, which indicates it is late at night. The left picture shows what is going on in a karaoke club. The color lights above are shining and twinkling, and a crowd of young people are dancing with the music. In the middle of the picture, a man and a lady are standing in the front a video, singing happily. The man is laying his hand on the shoulder of the lady. They are enjoying themselves. Nowadays young people have more money and places to entertain themselves. After a whole day’s hard work, they go to various places to enjoy colorful nightlife, such as pubs, clubs, dancing parties and so on. While the picture on the right gives a strong contrast, an old lady sitting in sofa is watching TV. She wears a sad depressed expression. The room is so quiet that the cat lying on the ground has fallen to sleep. Her eyes are on the TV screen but her mind is far away. There is a picture on the wall-she once had a family of three. But now she can only live in the big house alone. Nowadays young people are busy with their own career and entertainment in the outside world away from the parents. Their parents are getting old and lonely since they are tired. For many reasons, the old are easily apt to depression. They are eager for mental comfort rather than money supply. They look forward to chances to get together with family members, to take care of their children, or just listen to them.Interlocutor:Thank you. Now, candidate B, could you please ask your partner a question?(Half a minute for asking and answering the question)B.Do you have any idea what the young should do to alleviate loneliness of the old?A. First, young people should spare some time to see their parents, and chat with them, and make them to know they are still of value for the family. Second, when at home, young people should try to create a warm atmosphere. Have a good time with the family to have a dinner together, or go to the park for a weekend. Third, if you are too busy to see them, at least you can give them a call, telling them what you are doing, and let them know they are still of importance for them. Forth, try to help them to take part in some social activities to make their life meaningful. In a word, young people should give their parents more attention and care.(Take back picture 1 and put picture 2 in front of both candidates)。

People assume that office politics involves some manipulative (工于心计的)behavior,”says Deborah Comer, an assistant professor of management at Hofstra University. (2004年6月)A recent study, published in last week’s Journal of the American Medical Association, offers a picture of how risky it is to get a lift from a teenage driver.

The General House EffectThe green house effect is not a new phenomenon. Scientists have known for centuries that a layer of gases naturally surrounds the earth like an insulating blanket, trapping the reflected energy of the sun and preventing it from escaping into space that is what makes the earth warm enough for people, plants and animals. However, recent human activity has boosted concentrations of greenhouse gases and enhanced their heat-trapping ability. The man culprit is carbon dioxide which scientists estimate accounts for nearly half of global warming.Co2 is released from burning fossil fuels and from clearing and burning forests. There are other important greenhouse gases too and they cannot be ignored. CFCs, for example, may account for 25 per cent of global warming in the text century if their production is not scaled back. But carbon dioxide is the pivotal one. The UN International panel on Climatic Change now says that Co2 levels could double within in 40 years if present rates of fossil-fuel burning and deforestation continue. That means an average temperature increase between two and four degrees centigrade and a sea-level rise of perhaps a foot by 2050.No one knows for certain how local weather will change as a result of this warming. But one thing is clear-it will be no picnic. Indications are that the earth will be take place not over thousands of years, but over decades. And it is the speed of the change, which makes the precise impact so difficult to predict. The most sophisticated computerized climate models in the US and UK , agree that weather around the world will become more irregular and more extreme. In general, temperatures will become more towards the poles than at the equator. overall rainfall will also increase as higher temperatures boost evaporation from the seas. But the distribution of precipitation will shift. Some areas will become wetter, others will be drier. In middle latitudes, Climate zones will march poles-wards. In tropical and subtropical parts of the third would, warming will be less but the impact on a relatively stable climate will be greater.Global warming will also cause ocean levels to rise---though not, as popular wisdom has it, due to the Antarctic ice cap melting. If this catastrophe occurs it will not be for at least another century. Instead, sea levels will rise simply because water expands as it warms. people living in low-lying coastal regions will be in danger. The world’s great river deltas, home to millions in Asia and Latin America and containing some of the Third World’s richest food-growing land, could become brackish graveyards.6. Which gas is the most responsible for global warming?A. Carbon Dioxide.B. CFCs.C. Green houses.D. other gases in the atmosphere.7. What will happen if man continues to burn fossil fuels and forests at present rates?A. All fossil fuels, like coal, oil and gas, will run out.B. Deforestation will give rise to the loss of co2.C. The temperature will increase two to four degrees Fahrenheit.D. The rise of sea-level will reach about a foot by 2050.8. Why is the precise impact the global warming will exert on local weather hard to predict?A. Because the great changes in temperature will take place in just decades.B. Because the course of changes will last thousands of years.C. Because people are not sure whether the earth will be warmer than before.D. Because there are many other factors involved in this change.9. Which of the following is true according to the passage?A. The earth, as a whole, will become much wetter.B. The temperature around equator will rise more than around the poles.C. The amount of rainfall will be the same from place to place.D. The weather around the world will be more unusual in the next few decades.10. It can be concluded thatA. The rise of ocean levels is due to the Antarctic ice cap melting.B. The temperature increase will take a gradual course.C. Human beings will have to suffer more from environmental damage.D. Without greenhouse gases the earth would be extremely hot.参考答案6.A第⼀段有这样⼀句话:the main culprit is carbon dioxide, which scientists estimate accounts for nearly half of global warming 从这句话可以看出,⼆氧化碳是全球变暖的罪魁祸⾸,对全球变暖负有重⼤责任。

Women’s Liberation one of the good things for men in women’s liberation is that men no longer have to pay women the old-fashioned courtesies. In an article on the new manners, Ms. Holmes says that a perfectly able to woman no longer has to act helplessly in public as if she were a model. For example, she doesn’t need getting in and out of cars. “Women get in and out of cars twenty times a day with babies and dogs. Surely they can get out by themselves at night just as easily.” She also says there is no reason why a man should walk on the outside of a woman on the sidewalk. “Historically, the man walked on the inside so he caught the garbage thrown out of a window. Today the man walked is supposed to walk on the outside. A man should walk where he wants to. So should a woman. If, out of love and respect, he actually wants to take the blows, he should walk on the inside- because that’s where attacks are all hiding these days. As far as manners are concerned, I suppose I have always been a supporter of women’s liberation. over the years, out of a sense of respect I imagine, I have refused to trouble women with outdated courtesies. It is usually easier to follow rules of social behavior than to depend on one’s own taste. But rules may be safely broken, of course, by those of us with the gift of natural grace. For example, when a man and woman are led to their table in a restaurant and the waiter pulls out a chair the woman is always expected to sit in the chair. That is according to Ms. Clark. I have always done it the other way according to my wife. It came up only the other night. I followed the hostess to the table, and when she pulled the chair out I sat on it quite naturally since it happened to be the chair I wanted to sit in. “Well”, said my wife when the hostess had gone. “You did it again.” “Did what?” I asked, utterly confused. “Took the chair.” Actually, since I’d walked through the restaurant ahead of my wife, it would have been awkward, I should think, not to have taken the chair. I had got there first after all. Also it has always been my custom to get in a car first and let the women get in by herself. This is a courtesy. I insist on as the stronger sex, out of love and respect. In times like these, there might be attacks hidden about. It would be unsuitable to put a woman in a car and then shut the door on her, leaving her at the mercy of some bad fellow who might be hiding in the back seat. 1. It can be concluded from the passage that____. A. men should walk on the inside of sidewalk. B. women are becoming more capable than before. C. in women’s liberation men are also liberated. D. it’s safe to break rules of social behavior 2. The author was “utterly confused” because he ___. A. took the chair out of habit. B. was trying to be polite. C. was slow in understanding. D. had forgotten what he did.+ 3. He took the chair for all the following reasons EXCEpT that ____. A. he got to the chair first. B. he happened to like the seat. C. his wife ordered him to do so. D. he’d walked ahead of his wife. 4. The author always gets in a car before a woman because he ____. A. wants to protect her. B. doesn’t need to help her. C. chooses to be impolite to her. D. fears attacks on him. 5. Which of the following best states the main idea of the passage? A. Manners ought to be thrown away altogether. B. In manners one should follow his own judgment. C. Women no longer need to be helped in public. D. Men are not expected to be courteous to women.。

A.y e t B.t h o u g h C.b u t D.t h u s解析:1.A.

M o s t o f大多数,大部分;m a j o r i t y大多数,但前面要加定冠词;l o t不能单独o f和连用;p l e n t y o f大量的.2.

a l m o s t几乎,差不多。

3. B.B y m e a n s o f通过…方法;b e c a u s e o f由于,原因是;a c c o r d i n g t o根据,随…

i n d e f i n a b l e不确定的;s e r i o u s严肃的,严重的;i n d e f i n i t e模糊的,不确定的。

g a i n获得;d e m a n d要求;r e q u e s t请求;r e m a i n保持。

g a i n t h e c o n t r o l获得控制,得到控制权。

扩张领土常用的搭配是e x p a n d t h e l a n d.w i d e n扩大,不能反映出法国的侵略性行为。

I n t h e r i v e r表示在河里。
