照明用电量约占工业总用电量的１５％，在建筑中，照明用电则占到总用电量的４０％。
照明质量的好坏（照明的稳定性和运行连续性）取决于供电质量。
因此，照明系统的电源是很重要的。
照明灯具的分类方法繁多，如按用途分类、按CIE推荐的根据光通量分配比例分类、按灯具发光原理分类和按灯具外壳防尘、防水、防触电保护分类等。
其中，按用途分类不再赘述，其余分类法将在这里加以叙述。
1．按国际照明委员会CIE推荐的灯具分类（室内照明） 根据国际照明委员会CIE的建议，按灯具光通量在上下空间分布的比例分为五类：直接型、半直接型、漫射型（包括水平方向光线很少的直接—间接型）、间接型和半间接型。
⑴.直接型灯具（Direct lighting luminaire）此类灯具绝大部分光通量(90-100%)直接投射下方，所以灯具的光通量的利用率最高，但照明效果不理想。
⑵.半直接型灯具（Semi-dirdct ligting luminaire）这类灯具大部分光通量（60-90%）射向下半球空间，少部分射向上方，射向上方的分量将反射下来，从而减少照明环境所产生的阴影的硬度并改善其格表面的亮度比。
⑶.漫射型或直接—间接型灯具（Diffused lighting luminarie）灯具向上和向下的光通量几乎相同（各占40-60%）最常见的是乳白玻璃球形灯罩，其他各种形状漫射透光的封闭灯罩也有类似的配光。

6.ECM测试。
测试包括：射频分传导和辐射两项测试。
