The Shawshank Red emption, there is no doubt that is a good film,no action effects, are able to deeply impress the audience, and after a dozen years still charm,it depend on what attracted us?1、Equality and freed omLose hope of life is gray, even is meaningless. Protagonist Andy on sending out the humanity everywhere, he seems to have the perfect personality. The film about hope, dream, faith, friendship gives me a feeling of too much and shock.2、Perseverance, ideal firmlyBecause we human beings are always like this: only lost, really realize the value of it, and he desperately to win back again, then don't go to cherish. The Shawshank RedemptionWhen prison shows up in front you, which film firstly comes into your mind, Felon, Prison Break, Escape Plan, or maybe other Hollywood blockbusters? For me, The Shawshank Redemption is the one. As lots of people said, all of men have to watch this film, if don’t, they will definitely regret in their life. However, I can’t totally agree with this kind of opinion. Even though there is no leading actress in the film, it has nothing to with the audiences’ genders, because no matter what you are, as a flesh-and-blood human being, you can feel the passion and insistence of pursuing hope, freedom in this film, meanwhile, you also can realize how upset and pitiful an institutionalized person can be.It was the first year of my college life when I watched The Shawshank Redemption. I’ve watched it for more than five times until now, and each time I got different experience and feelings about this special artwork. At the first time, I just thought lots of people liked it, because so many friends around me were talking about it very often. Then I told myself maybe I should watch it in order to find some similarities with others. Although this film hadn’t had exciting fights and many world-known stars for me two years ago, it still made a deep impression on me and made meawfully moved. The most impressive person to me at that time, now he still is the one, of course, was Andy.Andy had to serve two life sentences for he murdered his wife and her lover, he tried to defend for himself because his was innocent, allof the evidence was against him, however. After having made up him mind to escape from the prison, Andy never gave up his―career‖—to dig a tunnel with a tiny hammer. This was the primary virtue that I loved him so much. He would never speak empty words, that is, if he decided to do something, he would insist on no matter how many people lack faith in him, even laughed at him. Red, one of the old and important persons in the prison, said that it would take 600 years to excavate a route to the hope. Yet the truth was: Andy spent 20 years digging a tunnel to get to the outside world. Later, when I became a sophomore, I constantly watched The Shawshank Redemption around three times, and I got a deeper understanding of it. Lots of questions came to me -- Why did the court announce Andy guilt and put him in prison? Why did no officials discover that Andy laundered money for the warden, Norton? Why could Andy make a person who had been existed before he escaped from the Shawshank? These questions were seemly not easy to answer, but one word, flaws in the system, couldmake it.When Andy was sent to the Shawshank, he tried to keep himself from troubles as he didn’t speak a word of anything. He knew he was guiltless, but he still could do nothing to prove his innocence. Andy was put in prison which indicated that there were some flaws in the judicial system. Many years dragged by, Andy gradually showed his talent of banking, and he helped solve the tax problems of the guards and accumulate the filthy wealth for Norton, which implied that the tax evasion and corruption were very serious. More than twenty years of bitter life in the prison, Andy finally fled from the Shawshank andlived a brand new life in Zihuatanejo. Had the judgment not been erroneous, Andy probably would not have been sent to jail. Had the system been clear, Andy probably would not become Norton’s laundering machine. Had the system been complete, Andy probably would not live a peaceful life any more. The most important thing was: if the system was exactly unbroken, The Shawshank Redemption would never be a success. Therefore, I persuaded myself– it was a matter of human nature instead of the system, because any sound systems were manipulated by man. The manipulators have a profound impact on the system: they were inintegrity, so were the system; the manipulators were corrupt, so the whole system would be same. The above views might not be correct, but I couldn’t think about it. Fortunately, Andy challenged the official guards several times to enjoy the freedom and hope in the darkness. He gave the chief prison guard advice on the tax problems at the risk of his life to require some beer for his coworkers. He persisted in writing letters to the state senate to ask for fund so as to reform and expand the library. He ventured to broadcast Mozart’s music all over the prison to remind his inmates of the freedom and hope. Let put this in another way, Andy challenged not only the guards but also the systems.Recently, I’ve watche d this blockbuster again, and I learned one word, institutionalize, which has become a buzzword in my class. Red had serviced in the prison for several decades, he called himself an institutionalized man. He held a firm belief that he might be useful in the prison, because he could get things for the inmates, on the contrary, he would fail to make it on the outside world where people made great changes. Red had already lost his hope after having spent most of hislife in the prison, and his belief was more intensified when the old Brooks committed suicide during his parole. It was the most essential point that made Red different from Andy who had hope to support himself after being abused by three of his inmates, keep himself alive during the punishment in thesolitary cell, and urge himself to make a way to the freedom. The old Red was an institutionalized man, so he had to report the manager when he wanted to pee during the work. Red had the exact same feelings—failed to adapt to the rapid changing world and lived in fear--- as Brooks during his parole. If he didn’t make promise to Andy, he would be dead somehow. After meeting his commitment, Red really started his new journey as Andy told Red ―Hope is a good thing, and no good thing ever dies.‖ On his w ay to find Andy, Red finally pick up his hope --- he hoped he could make it across the border; he hoped to see Andy and shake his hands; he hoped the Pacific was as blue as it had been in his dreams. Andy and Red, two similar men almost had nothing in common in the Shawshank, they eventually alienated themselves from the darkness and appreciated the sunshine in Zihuatanejo. The reason why people become institutionalized is that they shut their hope and dreams in the bottom of their heart. Once they manage to retrieve their freedom, dream and hope, they will have no chance to be institutionalized. I don’t know how many people will be so peaceful and generous like Andy in the worst time. But I do believe that people who can tolerate and forgive things having hurt them before will understand the essence of life more precise thanthe ordinaries. It will be better for people to play their own roles in life rather than waste time, because ―Get busy living or get busy dying‖ is the truth of life.

《肖申克的救赎》影评(英文版)The discussion on <Shawshank Redemption>I think this movie is very meaningful. I like it very much. You must think so too. You must all have a lot to say. But according to what we have appointed, I’m the Chair, so please let me show y ou my opinion first. The story begins with the trial of a young banker, Andy Dufrense, victimized by circumstantial evidence, resulting in a conviction for the murder of his wife and her lover. After a quick conviction, Andy finds himself serving a life sentence at Shawshank prison, with no hope of parole. He exists in this prison only in appearance, keeping his mind free from the drab walls around him. His ability to do this results in the gaining of respect from his fellow inmates, but most of all from Ellis Redding. Ellis, commonly referred to as Red, finds gainful use of his entrepreneurial spirit within the drab walls of Shawshank by dealing in contraband and commodities rare to the confines of prison. Andy\'s demeanor and undeniable sense of hope causes Red to take a deeper look at himself, and the world around him. Andy proves to Red and the other inmates that in the conventional walls of Shawshank prison convention will find no home in his lifestyle. As far as I’m concerned, this movie shows us three things: freedom, friendship, and hope. If we take a movie as a novel, then <Shawshank Redemption> is a great novel without doubt. It reflects the real social life, and creates several typical characters with Classic Quotes and a few kinds of modifications. This movie organizes the main scenario of the story in a simple way and at the same time using some petty lines. It expresses the subject in a very artistic way. There were three words, the first is freedom. However, what impressed me is nearly everyone in the prison got accustomed to the prison life. What’s more, an old man even suicide after he was set free. I have a very deep feeling of friendship. The second word accrued to me is friendship. Friendship is a necessary in our life. In this movie, the friendship between Andy and Red moved me. It gave me an idea: getting a real friendship is more important than money and power. Friendship is really important, and in my opinion, it is very hard to get a real friendship. When we don’t have a real friend, we w ill feel very lonely. I may have this feeling during these days. That is really incredibly hard. Also there are some sentences in the movie that really impressed me. The sentence I like most is “hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good t hing ever dies.” Because I think, it encourages people appreciate the beauty of life, to keep their hope in heart forever. “It was as if some beautiful birds had flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.” From this sentence, I start to know that,in fact, something cannot be noticed at all. That is like the freedom of our heart. We need it, just like you have never forgotten it.Another one is: “Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free. A strong man can save himself. A great man can save another.” I like this sentence because it teaches me to let me full of courage and hopes. It urges me to have the determination to succeed. In the end, I want to use a sentence to summarize this movie: Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.。

Directed by Frank Darabont and based on a novella by Stephen King, the movie tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a banker who is wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary. Over the course of two decades, Andy befriends fellow inmate Ellis "Red" Redding and works to maintain his hope and humanity in the face of brutal prison conditions.
One of the most remarkable aspects of The Shawshank Redemption is its portrayal of the resilience of the human spirit. Despitefacing unjust imprisonment and inhumane treatment, Andy maintains his dignity and refuses to let the prison system break his will. Shawshank Redemption133 CabbageAbsolutely ,this is one of my favorite movie . In my opinion ,it is very charming ,and I am much found of this movie . I think the most impressive part is hope ,the hope of freedom,of self value. This movie deliver the hope to us through color, music, choppy, and jerky shots. At the very beginning , Andy is put into prison for being accused of murdering his wife and his wife’s lover. The color is very simple ,outside of the prison ,it is very vibrant ,which means hope ,which means freedom ; inside of the prison ,the color turns into gray and black , which means hopeless life. Andy finally live a life like a caged bird. The most fantasy part is the music. One of the most impressed parts is that when he is making his way out ,the music is very nervous. It could strain my every nerve, it makes me feel his excitement . When he finally manages of escaping from the prison ,the music sounds like a piece of victory symphony ,it sounds like the god is celebrating for his wonderful job . It is freedom’s sign ,after two decades .Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane. at many scenes ,we almost think that Andy is going to give up ,submit to the violence and unfairness. But ,he lives his life in his way ,he keeps fighting against the evil . When Norton kills Tommy and threatenshim ,I can see his helplessness and despair . As the things going , like others ,we all think that Andy suicides , but he rather escapes. It is so mistery and suspenseful . We can clearly see his desire of freedom and his determination . I love this part .Here’s where it makes the most sense. You need it so you don’t forget. Forget that there are place in the world that are not made out of stone That there’s something inside that’s yours, that they can’t touch. We could image how it hard for Andy to do through the time of Tommy’s death and Norton’s merciless rejection. Although ,nothing could cold down his enthusiasm of hope . He always keeps the hope in his heart . It impresses me most . It gives me the faith to be hopeful every moment.Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies! Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.。

<The Shawshank Redemption(肖申克的救赎)>英文影评戴雪君Once again I watched the remarkable and impressing mivie——<The Shawshank Redemption>,for the sake of writing the film review. It was a story happened in 1940s.The great banker Andy Dufresne was ordered to serve two life sentences, because of a conviction for the murder of his wife and her lover. He was innocent, but no one can prove it.Then he spent his twenty years in Shawshank Prison, doing many meaningful things for himself and other prisoners. Here comes the instences. He taught the warden,Mr.Hadley, how to get legacy without paying tax just to apply for some beers for his coworkers. So after finishing their jobs, they sat and drink with the sun on their shoulders and felt like free man.He wrote one letter per week to the state senate for six years, asking for expanding the library and get some new books for prisoners. Finally,he transformed a storage room into the best prison library in New England and help a couple of prisoners get their high school equicalency. The grandest thing is that he dug a big hole, using a small rock hammer, for himself to escape from Shawshank. Then a thunderstorm night,he crawled to freedom through 500 yards of shit-smelling foulness. From my perspective,The Shawshank Redemption is a movie about hope, freedom and friendship. Those prisoners got used to restriction and impossible in daily life. As Red,he couldn’t squeeze a drop of piss without asking for permission even when he was out of Shawshank. They lost something inside that others can’t get to,that others can’t touch. That’s hope.Just as Andy wrote in his letter to Red,”Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.”Salvation lies within.Brooks, who stayed in Shawshank for 50 years, wanted to hurt his friend in order to escape conditional release.Once he left the cage,he chose to die instead of showing any happiness.Freedom and factual seemed prison to him. When he was packaging in the supermarket, his fear could be found in every wrinkle. When he was sitting on the bench in the park, the loneliness was stronger than those in the prison.”First, you hate them. Then you get used to them.Enough time pases, you get so you depend on them.That’s’institutionalized.’”So when Andy flung caution to the winds and broadcast <Le Nozze di Figaro>in the loudspeaker, people stayed in silence. They felt that it was something so beautiful. It can’t be expressed in words and make your heart ache because of it.Andy was just like what Red descriped,”Some birds aren’t meant to be caged.Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up dose rejoice.”Red and Andy, their friendship in Shawshank seemed more sincere and purer than ours in earthliness. So when they finally met at the beach ofPacific Ocean under the sunshine,I laughed in front of the screen.。

Impression on The Shawshank Redemption This is the second time that I watched the movie,I wanted to watch it for a long time, but because of series of reasons I did not. Then,I finally watched it,but there was nothing left. But this time, incidentally,it gives me a lot.I have watched so many movies about the life in the prison, but what they reflect are bad things. But in this movie, you can see more moving scenes instead of evil.Andy was innocent, but he was in the prison. He tried his best to adjust to the environment at first, and seldom spoke to other people, but two months later,he began to made friends with others and became Red’s friend.Difficult as the life is,there were many moving scenes such as the moment that they were drinking beers in the setting sun.Andy endured a lot,but he never gave up.What made me thought a lot was Books,he was a prisoner and took charge of the library in the prison. When he was told that he could get out ,he felt sad instead of happy. As Red analyzed:In the prison ,he was somebody, but out there ,he was nobody, not to speak of his sicking hands. So Books could not fit the life outside and took his own life.Maybe, death is the real freedom to him.In fact, the film tend to tell us the attitude to life----One should always feel hopeful. In a manner of speaking, the film made Andy to let us know the power of hope. All in all,the movie told us:Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies. And the film really worth seeing. The View of The Shawshank RedemptionThe charectersRed, the narrator, recounts how he planned and carried out his wife’s murder by disabling her brakes, which accidentally killed a neighbor and child as well and earned him a life sentence at Shawshank Prison. Red also remembers the arrival of an inmate named Andy Dufresne, whose tenure at Shawshank affected the lives of everyone at the prison. Andy was sent to Shawshank for life in 1947 for the cold-blooded murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, tennis pro Glenn Quentin. Despite the damning evidence placing him at the scene of the crime on the night of the murders, Andy has always maintained his innocence, which Red eventually comes to believe in as well.Andy has some initial difficulty adjusting to prison life, especially because many of the other prisoners think he’s a snob. A gang of men known as the Sisters frequently attack and rape him in the laundry room while the guards look the other way. Andy fights the Sisters, even though it always lands him in the infirmary and sometimes solitary confinement. Despite these hardships, however, Andy never complains or loses his confidence. The storySoon after arriving at Shawshank, Andy approaches Red and asks him to procure a rock hammer because he’s interested in rock collecting and carving. After a while, he also pays Red to smuggle in some polishing cloths and then, rather nervously, a large poster of pinup Rita Hayworth. Red fulfills Andy’s requests. After a few years, Red and Andy both find themselves on a work crew, tarring the roof of the prison’s license plate factory. Andy overhears Byron Hadley, a prison guard, complaining to the other guards about the taxes he’ll have to pay on the $35,000 he just inherited from his long-lost brother. Andy offers Hadley some financial advice by telling him to give the money to his wife as a one-time tax-free gift. Andy even offers to fill out the paperwork for Hadley in exchange for giving three beers to each prisoner on the work crew. After some initial hesitation and suspicion, Hadley agrees. The deal wins Andy the respect of everyone involved and makes him a mythic hero in the eyes of the prisoners. Andy also becomes a valuable financial resource to those who run the prison. As a result, the guards and the warden protect Andy from the Sisters, make him the prison librarian, and don’t assign other inmates to his cell. Andy relishes his new position and works hard during the next two decadesto significantly expand the library.Andy’s financial responsibilities start with filing the guards’ tax returns, but they soon expand to laundering money for the various prison wardens, including Bible-thumping Samuel Norton. Andy has no moral objection to hiding the money that Norton receives from construction companies, but he doesn’t realize that doing so also hurts his chances of ever leaving Shawshank.A new inmate named Tommy Williams arrives at Shawshank and tells Andy that he served time in another prison with Elwood Blatch, a man who privately admitted to killing tennis pro Glenn Quentin. When Andy asks Norton to request a retrial, Norton dismisses Andy’s claims and puts him in solitary confinement for more than a month on the “grain and drain”diet of bread and water. Norton, meanwhile, transfers Tommy Williams to another prison out of fear that Andy would expose his money laundering operation if paroled. After another aborted attempt to reason with the warden and another stint in solitary, Andy drops the issue and becomes more brooding and introspective.Eventually Andy emerges from his lengthy depression and tells Red one day that he had a friend set up a false identity for him. Under the false identity, the friend invested $14,000 of Andy’s money, which has since become more than $370,000. Andy, however, can’t touch the money, saved under his alternate identity, because he would risk exposing himself and losing everything. The documents and lucrative bonds are kept in a safe-deposit box at a local bank, the key to which has been stashed under a black volcanic rock wedged into a stone wall in the countryside near the prison. Andy dreams of escaping, assuming the new identity, and becoming the proprietor of a small hotel in Mexico. Andy also imagines Red going with him.Red thinks nothing of this until years later when the prison guards find Andy’s cell empty one morning. The guards search the prison but find nothing, until an extremely frustrated Norton rips the pinup poster from the wall to reveal a gaping hole in the thick concrete. The hole leads to the sewage drainpipe, which empties into the marshes surrounding Shawshank. Red figures that Andy slowly and systematically used the rock hammer and polishing cloths every night for nearly twenty years to carve through the wall. After completing his hole, Red also figures that it took Andy roughly eight years to muster the courage to actually try to escape.Red adds a postscript to his story about a year later, writing from a hotel in Portland, Maine, after being released from Shawshank. The transition to life on the outside has been tough, and Red thinks of Andy when he feels the urge to commit a petty crime or violate the terms of his parole so that he’ll be put back in prison. Now working as a bag boy at a supermarket, Red uses his days off to explore the countryside, partly because he likes the freedom and the space but also because he’s lookingfor the volcanic rock where Andy hid the key to the safe-deposit box.Red walks the rural hayfields in search of the stone wall Andy had described years earlier, and after several weeks of searching, he finally finds the rock. Underneath, Red discovers a letter addressed to him from Peter Stevens, Andy’s pseudonym. The letter invites Red to join Andy in Mexico and includes a gift of $1,000. Red concludes the postscript with renewed hope for the future as he decides to abandon his job, violate his parole, and make his way to Mexico to find Andy.Analysis of Major CharactersRedRed is the lifeline of the prison, the man who can smuggle almost anything into Shawshank from the outside world. By making himself indispensable to the other inmates, Red affords himself protection and an esteemed place in the pecking order of the prison yard. He forces the other men to do business on his terms and knows full well the need to defend his own interests in a world where violence and exploitation are the norm. Ultimately, however, Red’s hardened stance conceals his fear and insecurity as he struggles to make sense of his life both in and out of prison. Even though Red’s narrative focuses on Andy and his eventual escape, Red admits that the story is really all about himself. Andy’s inner confidence and sense of self-worth represent the part of Red that Hadley, Norton, and the other prison authorities never managed to crush. Although Red has undoubtedly thought of escaping numerous times during his thirty-eight years in prison, it is Andy’s resolute sense of hope that Red admires. Red knows that hope is what keeps him and every other inmate alive.Andy DufresneAndy is an enigma to Red and the other inmates, a man they admire but never really understand. An element of fantasy infuses the characterization of Andy: at one point King even refers to the mysterious “myth-magic” that his protagonist seemingly possesses. In truth, Andy is an anomalous figure who stands out from the rest of the inmates at Shawshank Prison, but not for any mythical or spiritual reason. Andy’s calm, cool collectedness govern his interactions with the world around him, and he rarely succumbs to emotion or cheap sentiment. What many inmates take for snobbery is actually reserve and caution as Andy tries to stay one step ahead of his adversaries. Without this strength and inner resolve, Andy would never have survived his twenty-eight years in prison nor managed to escape. Andy emerges as an object of fascination for many of his fellow prisoners, a figure onto whom they project their various embellishments of the ideal man: Andy, the man who can talk down the guards; Andy, the man who can manipulate the warden; and Andy, the man who canescape out from under everyone’s noses.Samuel NortonWarden Norton embodies the hypocrisies and contradictions of the penitentiary system. The national exposure and adulation he gets for his “Inside-Out” program belies and conceals the corruption that prevails during his tenure and the campaign of threats, intimidation, abuse, and excessive cruelty he employs to maintain control of the inmates. At times aligned with images of death—his face is compared to a cold slate tombstone—Norton is a self-deluded despot who justifies his exploitation and the promotion of his self-interest at the expense of others in the name of his faith and the fire-and-brimstone Bible passages he often quotes.Themes, Motifs, and Symbols ThemesThe Power of HopeHope, more than anything else, drives the inmates at Shawshank and gives them the will to live. Andy’s sheer determination to maintain his own sense of self-worth and escape keeps him from dying of frustration and anger in solitary confinement. Hope is an abstract, passive emotion, akin to the passive, immobile, and inert lives of the prisoners. Andy sets about making hope a reality in the form of the agonizing progress he makes each year tunneling his way through his concrete cell wall. Even Andy’s even-keeled and well-balanced temperament, however, eventually succumb to the bleakness of prison life. Red notes that Tommy Williams’s revelation that he could prove Andy’s innocence was like a key unlocking a cage in Andy’s mind, a cage that released a tiger called Hope. This hope reinvigorates Andy and spreads to many of the other inmates in the prison. In his letter addressed to Red, Andy writes that “hope is a good thing,” which in the end is all that Red has left. Red’s decision to go to Mexico to find Andy is the ultimate proof of Red’s own redemption, not from his life as a criminal but from his compromised state, bereft of hope and with no reason to embrace life or the future. Red’s closing words, as he embarks tentatively onto a new path, show that hope is a difficult concept to sustain both inside the prison and out.《肖申克的救赎》的影评The story may sound simple, but the truth behind the words is remarkable. When I heard the name of the film first time, I considered the Shawshank to be a man’ name, but in face it is a jail——a hell in the world. Not only for the inhumanity of the jailors——they behaved brutally; but also for the jail gnawed at people’ heart by keeping them waiting and waiting as life passed. It seemed that only those utterly worthless people who gave up everything could survive. Th at’s where the story happened. The part impressed me most is when Andy got out of the jai. He extended his arms in front of him in the heavy rain as if he were welcoming the fresh air and the freedom. At that moment, I saw the faith win the darkness, discharging light dazzling the eyes in the dark blue sky. Under the light, I could feel my recreant innermost being shivering as his voice said: “Remember, Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thin g ever dies!”That’s why I like this film: it encourages people to fight to preserve the dignity of human beings, to appreciate the beauty of life, and the most important is to keep hope forever. He once that is born, that is die. Everyone is the same. The only difference is whether busy living or busy dying. The film tells me even a man can live once, but if he keeps faith, keeps hope and works his life right, then once is enough. The faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark, the hope is the chief happiness that this world affords, and the life should be full of the singing of the bird and the happiness hope brings. " What’s that do you think? It’s the trembling of the heart, the singing of the mind, the flying of the soul and the hope to be free.”这个故事也许看似简单,但是其中的道理却是发人深思的。
