中英双语美文欣赏之一位母亲写给女儿的信英语栏目为您推荐“中英双语美文欣赏之一位母亲写给女儿的信”,希望能帮助到您!dear girls,我亲爱的孩子们,you're so young right now, but i hope these letters will be helpful to you one day when you're older. there is so much i wish i could ask my mother now that i am a grown woman. there is so much we never got to talk about. i'm planning on being around for you well into your lives and adulthood, but even so, i think having these letters will be useful in some way. who knows how things might change down the road, and at least you'll have your 34-year-old mother's thoughts down on paper.
anyway, i want this letter to be about beauty and my relationship to it. i feel this enormous responsibility, as a mother of two little girls, to lead you down a path that is relatively healthy when it comes to beauty and self image. in a lot of women's eyes i've probably already failed in that respect due to the amount of pink-princess-barbie mess cluttering up vera's room right now.
Dear dad,A tide of emotion rose and directly touched my heart as I was reading the letter full of your loving tenderness. Despite blessed with a thoughtful father and your fatherly concern, I used to be a naughty girl who took everything for granted. With the passage of time, I grew up, gradually realizing your meticulous care, gradually becoming clear about my goal, gradually learning to cherish every moment in my life.Few months ago, I graduated from high school, secure in the knowledge that I had been admitted to Columbia, yet it was just the beginning of my coming brilliant college time when I wanted to follow my passion. Dad, I appreciate the full support you give for me to create my dots, thus helping me find my calling and connect a gorgeous curve someday. Nevertheless, as far as I believe, it is a must to exert myself in classes in the meantime, no matter how hard it will be. What’s more, in the process of exploration, as you told me, I will come to learn the way of critical thinking and self-directed learning, which will be the parts of me.Altogether, college time won’t be wandered away and I won’t let you down. It’s not far to seek that the priceless treasure we own is friendship. Thank you for reminding me of some old friends and teaching me to be sincere and genuine. I will also rate it as the creed I live by. We shape our world with kindness and affection at the simplest moments every day. As to my beloved sister, the adorable girl who I grew up with, the bond between us is believed not to weaken.Dad, you inspired me and strengthened my belief that we are the masters of our life and our future, and it’s none other than we ourselves that are writing our destiny. While none of us knows what the future holds in store for us, we should take comfort in knowing that we are in command of our life. Every now and then, we can’t choose what we are given, but what we are to do about it determines what we will gain in the end.I could take care of myself.Don’t worry much about me.Love,Daughter。
Letterto+Daughter
Letter to DaughterOct. 9, 2009 Dear Daughter,As we drove off from Columbia, I decided to write you a letter to tell you all that is on my mind. First, I want to tell you how proud we are. Admission to Columbia is a real testament to your academic, artistic and social abilities. Whether it was getting the highest grade in Calculus, completing your elegant fashion design, successfully selling your painted running shoes, or becoming one of the top orators in the Model United Nations, you have become a talented and accomplished young woman. You should be as proud of yourself as we are.I will always remember the first time I held you in my arms. I felt a tingling sensation in my heart tha t must have been our “father-daughter connection” which will bind us for life. I remember singing you a lullaby while I rocked you to sleep. You have been a wonderful daughter ever since you were born, always quiet, empathetic, attentive, and well-mannered. I remember my daughter of three following us around every weekend to get building supplies. You put up with that boring period without a fuss, happily eating hamburgers in the car and singing with Barney until you fell asleep. You even went to Sunday Chinese school and studied hard even though it was no fun for you. I cannot believe how lucky we are as parents to have a daughter like you.You have been an excellent elder sister. Sometimes the two of you argued, but in the last few years you have become best friends. Your sister adores you and looks up to you as her role model. As you saw when we departed, she will miss you so much. There is nothing like family, and other than your parents, your sister is the one person who you can always confide in. There is nothing we wish more than that your sisterhood will continue to bond as you grow older, and that you will care for each other throughout your lives. While you are at college, do have a short video chat with her or email her every few days.College will be the most important years in your life. You often question “what good is this course”.While you should remain inquisitive, always remember that “education is what you have left after all that is taught is forgotten”.In college you will move from being teacher-taught to master-inspired, after which you must become a self-directed learner. Please take each subject seriously, for evenif what you learn isn’t critical for your life, the skills of learning will be something you cherish forever.Do not fall into the trap of dogma. There is no single simple answer to any question. Remember your high school debate class, when I told you to argue the side that you did n’t believe in I did that to show you things are rar ely “black and white”, and a problem can always be looked at from different perspectives. This is “critical thinking”, and it is the most important skill you need in life. You must also become tolerant and supportive of others. I remember when I proposed a new dissertation topic to my . advisor. He said “I don’t fully agree with you, but I’ll support you.”I have come to learn this isn’t just flexibility but is supportive of critical thinking. This is an empowering style of leadership that I try to follow. I hope you will too.Follow your passion in college and take courses you will enjoy. Steve Jobs said when you are in college, your passion will create many dots, and later in your life you will connect them. In his great commencement speech at Stanford, Jobs spoke of his calligraphy class, and how a decade later it became the basis for the beautiful Macintosh fonts, which later ignited desktop publishing and brought fabulous tools like Microsoft Word to our lives. His expedition into calligraphy was a dot, and the Macintosh became the connecting line. Do not worry excessively what career you will have, and don’t be too utilitarian. If you like Japanese, go for it, even if your dad thinks “it’s not useful.” Enjoy picking your dots, and be assured one day you will find your calling, and connect a gorgeous curve through the dots.Exert yourself in classe s, but don’t let pressure upset you. Your mother and I have no expectations for your grades. If you graduate and educate yourself in your four years, we will feel happy. Your Columbia degree will take you far, even if you don’t graduate with honors. The only thing that matters is that you have learned and the only metric you should use is that you have tried. Grades are just silly letters that vain people brag about, and lazy people dread. You are too good to be either. Most importantly, make friends and be happy. College friends will be the best in your life because they are not only physically closer than your family but the bonds will be strong as you gain independence and enter adulthood together. Choose friends who are genuine and sincere to you. Don’t worry about their hobbies or even their personalities. Be self-assured, outgoing and proactive. Keep your high school friends and stay connected to them, but do not use them as substitutes for college friendship. You have chosen wonderful friends from high school, so trust your instincts. Give people the benefit of the doubt; don’t stereotype and alwaysforgive. People are imperfect, so as long as they are genuine and sincere, trust them and be good to them. This is my secret of success –I am genuine with people and trust them (unless they do something to lose my trust). Sometimes I am taken advantage of by dishonest people but that loss is nothing compared to what I have gained from being open. Whether it is for management, work, or friendship, this is something you should ponder.Whatever decisions that confront you, you must take control of your life. I used to help you, whether it was in extracurricular activities or your college application. I will always be there for you, but the time has come for you to be in the driver’s seat. I remember the exhilarating feeling when I took real control of my life by deciding to leave academia for Apple, and then go to China and work for Google. Later I decided to start my own business. Being able to decide means you get to live the life you want to.I told your mom I’m writing this letter, and asked what she wanted me to say. She thought and said: “just ask her to take care of herself.” Simple but deeply caring –that is how your mother is. In this short sentence is her hope that you will become independent in the way you look after yourself – whether it be getting sufficient sleep, following a balanced diet, taking some exercise, or seeing a doctor whenever you are ill. An ancient Chinese proverb goes that the best way to be nice to your parents is to take care of yourself. This is because your parents love you so much, and that if you are well, they will have comfort. You will understand this one day when you become a mother. But in the meantime, please listen to your mother and take care of yourself.College is the four years where you have:• the greatest amount of free time• the first chance to be independent• the most flexibility to change• the lowest risk for making mistakesSo please treasure your college years – make the best of your free time, become an independent thinker in control of your destiny, evolve yourself into a bi-cultural talent and be bold to experiment, learn and grow through your successes and challenges. When I faced the greatest challenge and opportunity in my life in 2005, you gave me a big hug and said “bonne chance”, which means “good luck” and “good courage”. Now I do the same for you. Bonne chance, my angel and princess. May Columbia become the happiest four years in your life, and may you blossom into just what you dream to be.Love,Dad (& Mom)。

扎克伯格《给女儿的信》全文(中英文版)Dear Max,Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You've already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.
Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today.
While headlines often focus on what's wrong, in many ways the world is getting better. Health is improving. Poverty is shrinking. Knowledge is growing. People are connecting. Technological progress in every field means your life should be dramatically better than ours today.

As I write this letter, you are nearly one week old and sound asleep at your mother's side. It's going to be a few years before you can read this, and even longer before you understand exactly what I'm feeling - which is good, because then you'll need even more time to forgive. This letter is one of the hardest things, I've ever had to write, since I'm only a journalist and not a real writer. No words I know - not even the ones I looked up in the neighbor's dictionary - can describe the sublime joy and wonder I have felt since watching your mother do the equivalent of passing Andre the Giant's bowling ball and realizing that I could never take her place. And let me say right now, thank God for that as well. When they told me you were a girl, I felt so excited my heart could have burst - for when you hit adolescence, you're mostly your mother's problem, not mine. We took your name from Lara Croft, the main character of the video game 'Tomb Raider' and a new movie that features Angelina Jolie playing far below her talent. Croft, you one day will discover, has gazongas large enough to sink battleships and has reduced many teenage boys to the level of drooling idiocy. So, while it's anatomically impossible for you to share that gift, at least you'll have the name going for you, which can't hurt in job interviews. The best way to describe what I'm feeling right now is 'surreal,' which means I should lay off the after-dinner cocktails. I've long wanted to be a father but somehow never believed it would happen, in light of my lousy dating history and penchants for watching 'Star Trek' and reading comic books. But now you're here, and a week after your birth, I still sit for minutes watching your chest rise and fall - if for no other reason than it's more interesting than the other reality shows on TV. I still feel a sense of wonder as you kick and squirm upon waking - as you stretch your teeny-tiny limbs, wrinkle your little face, and cry. And then I feel guilty for practicing the accordion while you were trying to sleep. Over the years to come, I'm sure I will let you down, and there'll be times you'll wish you had someone different for a father. Your cousins Mario and Luigi have been wishing that about their father since day one. But I want you to know that I'm always going to be there for you - no matter where you shop, how you park, or how much time you spend on our phone. It's not obsessive; I'm your FATHER, and I even promise to be unobtrusive when I'm with you on dates. (However, if the guy lays as much as a finger on you, he's a dead man.) Maintain a good credit rating. Successful superheroes never let it slide. That are how Batman, Iron Man, the Wasp, and the Golden Age Sandman all retain their millionaire status, even when they do the costume thing full-time. Spider-man and Green Lantern never made even the minimum monthly payment, and they're always struggling just to pay the rent. Also, if Dr. Dingle ever calls from George Wood University in Texas about my pledge to the Alumni Dance Fund, tell the old goat I refuse to donate a single penny. That's about it right now. Later on, we'll get into the specifics of getting dressed - underwear first, then your shoes - avoiding trademark lawsuits, guarding against government conspiracies, and what to look for in rodents when you're preparing that delicious dish of 'potato au raton.' Right now, I'm happy just to watch your mother change the diaper when it's dirty, then listen to you breathe quietly as you slumber against my shoulder - which means that, soon, I too will get to hit the sack. Right now, I just want to treasure that moment by shooting it with my digital camera, then forwarding it to everyone I know until they put me on their spam-blockers list. Thank God one more time, for modern technology.

1Dear,Today and many times before, your mother asked me what about that if you are a girl but a son. I confess, I have some old prejudice which is traditional and affected by many other says. Sometimes while you hear and see a thing many times from other, the th inking goes into your mind deeply, I don’t know when it goes to my mind. Just as some habitual says, “my son what what …”, androcentrism is making trouble. It’s hard to say someone is this kind of person, many man has some in their mind, only more or less, just as feminism is hard to say how much is on a woman, more or less. After all, I feel shame to have this kind of idea in my mind, although it occupied a little. Everyone is not prefect and has some defect in his soul, but I need to clear them from my soul, thanks for your coming, or else I will never know my wrong. If it’s only a suppose before today, now you become more and more clear and visual to me, I can even start to design how to be a good father of a daughter: keep kind, gentle mind, in good manner, appearance; take more careful to prevent harm to you. Maybe I should not use the word “design”, how can I design the life belongs to you? I am confused, what should I do to avoid betraying the chance to live with you? I am still studying.Zhou Guo Ping said while he knows he have a child, he start to know the meaning to be a father, and anything other is not important, such as going abroad, achievement in personal (I)also have this issue, but not so much as his, maybe I am still not ready to be a father, for he is in forty and I am still purchasing thirty. I left for Afghanistan when you were 9 months old. Leaving you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. You are so very special to me sweetie – you are truly a gift from God. The best day of my life was the day you were born. Every time I saw you smile my heart would just melt. You were my sweetie – my life was not complete until you were born.I am so sorry I will not be able to see you grow up. But remember, your Daddy is not gone. I am in heaven now smiling down on you every day. You are so very lucky to have such a wonderful Mom to take care of you. Make sure you are good for her and help her out whenever you can. Always remember to say your prayers at night and be thankful for all your many blessings. Never forget how important and special you are to so many people. We love you so very much. When you get older and start school, do your best and try to learn as much as you can about the world you live in. Always be nice and caring to others and you will discover that the world will be nice to you. But when things aren’t going your way, never forget that God knows what is best for you and everything will work out in theYou have such a bright and beautiful future ahead of you. Have fun. Enjoy it. And remember, your Daddy will always be proud of you and will always love you. You are and will always be my sweetie. With very much loveYour Daddy英语写给女儿的一封信篇4Dear Max,Your mother and I don’t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You’ve alre ady given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today. While headlines often focus on what’s wrong, in many ways the world is getting better. Health is improving. Poverty is shrinking. Knowledge is growing. People are connecting. Technological progress in every field means your life should be dramatically better than ours today. We will do our part to make this happen, not only because we love you, but also because we have a moral responsibility to all children in the next generation. We believe all lives have equal value, and that includes the many more people who will live in future generations than live today. Our society has an obligation to invest now to improve the lives of all those coming into this world, not just those already here.Today, most people die from five things -- heart disease, cancer, stroke, neurodegenerative and infectious diseases -- and we can make faster progress on these and other problems.Once we recognize that your generation and your children’s generation may not have to suffer from disease, we collectively have a responsibility to tilt our investments a bit more towards the future to make this reality. Your mother and I want to do our part.Curing disease will take time. Over short periods of five or ten years, it may not seem like we’re making much of a difference. But over the long term, seeds planted now will grow, and one day, you or your children will see what we can only imagine: a world without suffering from disease. There are so many opportunities just like this. If society focuses more of its energy on these great challenges, we will leave your generation a much better world. Our hopes for your generation focus on two ideas: advancinghuman potential and promoting equality.Advancing human potential is about pushing the boundaries on how great a human life can be.Promoting equality is about making sure everyone has access to these opportunities -- regardless of the nation, families or circumstances they are born into. Our society must do this not only for justice or charity, but for the greatness of human progress.Today your mother and I are committing to spend our lives doing our small part to help solve these challenges. I will con tinue to serve as Facebook’s CEO for many, many years to come, but these issues are too important to wait until you or we are older to begin this work. By starting at a young age, we hope to see compounding benefits throughout our lives. As you begin the next generation of the Chan Zuckerberg family, we also begin the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation. Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities. We will give 99% of our Facebook shares -- currently about $45 billion -- during our lives to advance this mission. We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others. As we become parents and enter this next chapter of our lives, we want to share our deep appreciation for everyone who makes this possible. We can do this work only because we have a strong global community behind us. Building Facebook has created resourcesto improve the world for the next generation. Every member of the Facebook community is playing a part in this work.We can make progress towards these opportunities only by standing on the shoulders of experts -- our mentors, partners and many incredible people whose contributions built these fields. And we can only focus on serving this community and this mission because we are surrounded by loving family, supportive friends and amazing colleagues. We hope you will have such deep and inspiring relationships in your life too.Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can’t wait to see what you bring to this world. 5Dear Daughter:As we drove off from Columbia, I wanted to write a letter to you to tell you all that is on my mind.First, I want to tell you how proud we are. Getting into Columbia is a real testament of what a great well-rounded student you are. Your academic, artistic, and social skills have truly blossomed in the last few years. Whether it is getting the highest grade in Calculus, completing your elegant fashion design, successfully selling your painted running shoes, or becoming one of the top orators in Model United Nations, you have become a talented and accomplished young woman. You should be as proud of yourself as we are.I will always remember the first moment I held you in myarms. I felt a tingling sensation that directly touched my heart. It was an intoxicating feeling I will always have. It must be that “father-daughter connection” which wi ll bind us for life. I will always remember singing you lullaby while I rocked you to sleep. When I put you down, it was always with both relief (she finally fell asleep!) and regret (wishing I could hold you longer). And I will always remember taking you to the playground, and watching you having so much fun. You were so cute and adorable, and that is why everybody loved you so.You have been a great kid ever since you were born, always quiet, empathetic, attentive, and well-mannered. You were three when we built our house. I remember you quietly followed us every weekend for more than ten hours a day to get building supplies. You put up with that boring period without a fuss, happily ate hamburgers every meal in the car, sang with Barney until you fell asleep. When you went to Sunday Chinese school, you studied hard even though it was no fun for you. I cannot believe how lucky we are as parents to have a daughter like you.You have been an excellent elder sister. Even though you two had your share of fights, the last few years you have become best friends. Your sister loves you so much, and she loves to make you laugh. She looks up to you, and sees you as her role model. As you saw when we departed, she misses you so much. And I know that you miss her just as much. There is nothing like family, and other than your parents, your sister is the one person who you can trust and confide in. She will be the one to take care of you, and the one you must take care of. There is nothing we wish more than that your sisterhood will continue to bond as you grow older, and that you will take care of each other throughout your lives. For the next four years, do have a short video chat with her everyfew days, and do email her when you have a chance.College will be the most important years in your life. It is in college that you will truly discover what learning is about. You often question “what good is this course”. I encourage you to be inquisitive, but I also want to tell you : “education is what you have left after all t hat is taught is forgotten”. What I mean by that is the materials taught isn’t as important as you gaining the ability to learn a new subject, and the ability to analyze a new problem. That is really what learning in college is about – this will be the period where you go from teacher-taught to master-inspired, after which you must become self-learner. So do take each subject seriously, and even if what you learn isn’t critical for your life, the skills of learning will be something you cherish forever.Do not fall into the trap of dogma. There is no single simple answer to any question. Remember during your high school debate class, I always asked you to take on the side that you don’t believe in? I did that for a reason -- things rarely “black and white”, and there are always many ways to look at a problem. You will become a better problem solver if you recognized that. This is called “critical thinking”, and it is the most important thinking skill you need for your life. This also means you need to become tolerant and supportive of others. I will always remember when I went to my Ph.D. advisor and proposed a new thesis topic. He said “I don’t agree with you, but I’ll support you.” After the years, I have learned this isn’t just flexibility, it is encouragement of critical thinking, and an empowering style of leadership, and it has become a part of me.I hope it will become a part of you too.Follow your passion in college. Take courses you think youwill enjoy. Don’t be trapped in what others think or say. S teve Jobs says when you are in college, your passion will create many dots, and later in your life you will connect them. In his great speech given at Stanford commencement , he gave the great example where he took calligraphy, and a decade later, it became the basis of the beautiful Macintosh fonts, which later ignited desktop publishing, and brought wonderful tools like Microsoft Word to our lives. His expedition into calligraphy was a dot, and the Macintosh became the connecting line. So don’t worry too much about what job you will have, and don’t be too utilitarian, and if you like Japanese or Korean, go for it, even if your dad thinks “it’s not useful.” :) Enjoy picking your dots, and be assured one day you will find your calling, and conne.YoursFather.。

Title: Words to My Children。
To my dearest children,。
As I sit down to pen this letter to you, I am overwhelmed with emotions, thoughts, and a surge of memories flooding my mind. Words, as they say, can be the most potent tool we possess. They have the power to uplift, inspire, console, and guide. Yet, they can also wound, divide, and leave lasting scars if not chosen carefully. Therefore, I write to you today, not just as a parent butas a fellow traveler on this journey called life, hoping to impart some wisdom and guidance through the medium of words.First and foremost, I want you to know that you are loved. Unconditionally, deeply, and without reservation. No matter where life takes you, what choices you make, or what challenges you face, this love will always be a constant, unwavering force in your life. Let it be your anchor whenstorms rage and your guiding light in moments of darkness.Remember, my dear children, that life is a journey, not a destination. It's not about reaching a specific endpoint but about the experiences, lessons, and growth you accumulate along the way. Embrace each twist and turn, each triumph and setback, for they are all threads woven into the beautiful tapestry of your existence.Never underestimate the power of kindness. In a world that can sometimes seem cold and indifferent, kindness is like a warm ray of sunshine, capable of melting even the hardest of hearts. Be kind to others, but also be kind to yourselves. Treat yourselves with the same compassion and understanding that you extend to others.Dream big, my darlings, and pursue those dreams with unwavering determination. But remember that dreams alone are not enough; it is the dedication, hard work, and perseverance you put into realizing them that will make all the difference. Don't be afraid to fail, for failure is not the opposite of success but rather a stepping stone on thepath to it.Never stop learning. The world is a vast and wondrous place, filled with endless opportunities for growth and discovery. Approach each day with curiosity and an open mind, eager to absorb knowledge from every source imaginable. And remember that true wisdom lies not only in what you know but also in the humility to acknowledge how much you still have to learn.Family is everything. Cherish the bonds you share with each other, for they are the foundation upon which everything else is built. Take the time to nurture those relationships, to laugh, to cry, to share stories and create memories that will last a lifetime. And never hesitate to lean on one another for support when times get tough.Lastly, my beloved children, always stay true to yourselves. In a world that may try to mold you into something you're not, hold fast to your values, your beliefs, and the essence of who you are. Your uniqueness isyour greatest strength, your most precious gift to the world. In closing, know that no matter where life's journey may take you, I will always be here for you. To cheer you on in your victories, to lift you up in your defeats, and to love you with all my heart, today and for all eternity. With all my love,。

as we drove off from columbia, i wanted to write a letter to you to tell you all that is on my mind.
