Cloze Test ( 10 minutes, 10 points, 1 point each)The chicken is probably the most populous bird on earth. According to 41 , there are over 13 billion chicken ! And its meat is to popular that more than 73 billion pounds of it are consumed each year. 42 , hens produce some 600 billion eggs a year worldwide. The chicken is a descendant of the red jungle fowl of Asia. Man soon discovered that the chicken could be domesticated easily. But it was 43 the 19th century that mass production of chickens and eggs became a commercial 44 .Today chicken is 45 the most popular poultry meat. Chickens are raised by millions of households for domestic and commercial use.Advanced scientific methods of breeding and raising have made chicken production one of the most successful agricultural industries. Modern techniques now make 46 possible for just one person to care for from 25, 000 to 50,000 chickens. It takes the birds only three months to reach market weight. Many people 47 these mass-production techniques as cruel. But that has not stopped farmers from developing increasingly efficient ways of breeding these birds. Many of the birds raised by such methods are easily to die off---- some as 48 of the deadly disease ----the bird flu. Many farmers have neither the 49 nor the means to feed their chickens adequately, to provide proper housing for them, or to protect them from diseases. 50 this reason programs have been started by the United Nations to help educate farmers in many countries.41. Functional and often unexciting, replaced by zip fasteners or hood and eyes, there is, one would think, nothing much to be said about the humble button.Yet it is very probable that buttons started life as ornaments; certainly it is not known that they had any practical function until the 13th century. By the 14th century buttons were once again ornamental, often wastefully so, to such an extent that it was by no means uncommon for a person of wealth and consequence to have as many as 300 buttons on a single article of dress. Unimaginable as it seems today, sewing superfluous buttons on cloths became a craze---- not one that seems harmful to us though some Italians took a different view and a law against buttons was enforced in Florence. No buttons were to be worn on the upper arms; penalty for disobedience---- a sound whipping. How often this had to be carried out, history does not relate! Most of the buttons on modern clothes which could be called decorative once did in fact serve a useful purpose. Buttons on boots are one good example. Sleeve buttons on men’s coats are a reminder of the days when the fashion was for wearing shirts with frilly lace cuffs. On the tails of a modern tail coat there are indeed buttons which are purely ornamental but in earlier dayshorsemen used these buttons to keep the tails out of harm’s way. With regard to the side on which clothes are buttoned, originally both male and female dress was buttoned on the left hand side. Change came when men had to have access to their swords. So perhaps it is worth taking a look at buttons.51. Which of the following statements is true regarding buttons?A They have little function.B They are the only useful accessory.C They receive the least attention among accessories.D They are one of the best adornments to any clothes.52. According to the author, ____A buttons are used as ornaments only in modern times.B buttons have been used as ornaments since the 14th century.C buttons were used as ornaments before the 13th century.D buttons have been used as ornaments on and off throughout the history.53. It is implied that in the 14th century buttons ________A were a symbol of wealth.B were occasionally put on clothes.C began to have practical functions.D represented the wearer’s artistic taste54. In Florence, a city in Italy, buttons were once ___A loved by every citizen .B banned because they were a craze.C considered harmful and nobody wore them.D forbidden on the upper arms.55. It seems to the author that buttons ____A are worth a second look.B have never served any functionC should not be sewed on coats.D play an important role in our lives.56. Male and female dress is now buttoned __________A on the right sideB on the left sideC on different sides C on the same sides.Passage TwoBehind most of the bad things we do to our bodies as adults, eating more than we should is the idea we carry with us from childhood. On the one hand, we assume that we are indestructible. On the other, we think that any damage we impose on ourselves can be undone when finally clean up our act.If the evidence for how wrong the first idea is isn’t apparent when you stand naked in front of the mirror, just wait. But what if you eat right and drop all your bad habits? Is there still time to repair the damage? To a surprising degree, the answer is yes. Over the past five years, scientists have accumulated a wealth of data about what happens when aging people with bad habits decide to turn their lives around. The heartening conclusion: the body has an amazing ability to heal itself, provided the damage is not too great. The effects of some bad habits ---smoking, in particular---can haunt you for decades. But the damage from other habits can be largely healed.“Any time you improve your behaviour and make lifestyle changes, they make a difference from that point on,” says Dr. Jeffrey Koplan. “Maybe not right away. It’s like slamming on the brakes. You do need a certain distance. “But the distance can be remarkably short. Consider the recent announcements from the front lines of medical research:---- A study concluded that women who consume a s little as two servings of fish a week cut their risk of suffering a stroke to half that women who eat less than one serving of fish a month.---- The day you quit smoking, the carbon monoxide levels in your body drop dramatically. Within weeks, your blood becomes less sticky and your risk of dying from a heart attack starts to decline.Adopting healthy habits won’t cure all that bothers you, of course. But doctors believe that many chronic diseases ----from high blood pressure to heart disease and even some cancers---- can be warded off with a few sensible changes in lifestyle.N ot sure where to start? Surprisingly, it doesn’t matter, since one positive change usually leads to another. Make e nough changes, and you’ll discover you’ve adopted a new way of life.57. Most people with bad habits of eating more than they should believe that ____A they can never change the habits that have haunted them for decades.B their bodies can’t be damage d by the bad habits.C their bodies can heal all the damage without the help from outside.D they can force themselves to clean up the bad habits later.58. The evidence to disapprove the assumption that we are indestructible ____A is seldom apparent .B is clearly shown in the mirror.C will appear obvious sooner or later.D is still a question.59. According to the passage the human body can heal the damage caused by bad habits _______A when the damage is not very serious.B no matter how serious the damage is.C after we have dropped our bad habits.D much more slowly than we think.60. According to the recent announcements, ____A women should eat as much fish as possible.B women are at a higher risk of suffering a stroke than men.C eating a little more f ish can improve women’s health.D men don’t have to eat as much fish as women.61. It is implied in the passage that _____A smokers have lower levels of carbon monoxide than non-smokers.B the blood of smokers is more sticky than that of non-smokers.C smokers will be unlikely to die from heart attack if they quit smoking.D chronic diseases can be cured if we drop our habit of smoking.62. In the last paragraph the author tells us _____A when we should start quitting our bad habits.B it doesn’t matter how we start quitting our bad habits.C that making enough changes will make doctors unnecessary to us.D it’s never too late to start making sensible changes in our lifestyle.Passage ThreeOur true challenge today is not debts and deficits or global competition but the need to find a way to live rich, fulfilling lives without destroying the planet’s biosphere, which supports all life. Humanity has never before faced such a threat: the collapse of the very elements that keep us alive. An apple is an easy thing to take for granted. If you live where apples grow in abundance, you might assume that they are readily available and, better yet, that you may pick from a wide variety. But do you know that there are far fewer types to choose from today than there were 100 years ago?Between the years 1804 and 1905, there were 7,098 varieties of apples grown in the United States. Today 6,121 of those are extinct. But does diversity really matter? In the 1840’s, Ireland’s population exceeded eight million, making it the most densely populated country in Europe. Potatoes were its dietary mainstay, and a single variety called lumpers was the most widely grown. In 1845 the farmers planted their lumpers as usual, but a plant disease known as blight struck and wiped out almost the entire crop. “Most of Ireland survived that difficult year,” wrote Paul Raeburn in his book The Last Harvest ----The Genetic Gamble That Threatens to Destroy American Agriculture. “The deva station came the next year. Farmers has no choice but to plant the same potatoes again. They had no other varieties. The blight struck again, this time with overwhelming force. The suffering was indescribable.” Historians estimate that up to 1 million people died of starvation, while another 1.5 million emigrated, most to the United States. Those remaining suffered from crushing poverty. In the Andes of South America, farmers grew many varieties of potatoes, and only a few were affected by blight. Hence, there was no epidemic. Clearly, diversity of species and diversity within species provide protection. The growing of just one uniform crop runs counter to this basic survival strategy and leaves plants exposed to diseaseor pests, which can destroy an ent ire regions’ harvest. That is why many farmers depend so heavily on the frequent use of pesticides , even though such chemicals are often environmentally hazardous. Why do farmers replace their many folk varieties with one uniform crop? Usually in response to economic pressures. Planting uniform crops promises ease of harvesting, attractiveness of the product, resistance to go bad, and high productivity. But theses trends may be destroying man’s own food supply.63. The main idea of the passage is __________A It is important to protect the earth’s bio-diversity.B man is destroying his own food supply.C we now have fewer bio-species than before.D numerous strains of plants can resist plagues.64. With regard to the variety of apples in the United States ___________A it is the fewest in variety in terms of plant family.B over 80% of its varieties have been destroyed.C we have done our best to protect it.D it is as wide as it was 100 years ago.65. The author tells the st ory in Ireland in the 1840’s to show that _________A farmers should grow as many varieties of potatoes as in South America.B potatoes should not be grown as a dietary mainstay.C lumpers were not a choice variety of potatoes.D bio-diversity is essential to life on earth.66. The uniform crop of lumpers in Ireland in the 1840’s__________A caused blight to strike Ireland repeatedly.B caused Ireland’s population to decline by half.C destroyed the whole Irish agricultural tradition.D s eriously devastated Ireland’s economy.67. Diversity of species and diversity within species can help plants_________A ward off some disastrous diseases and pests.B resist natural disasters such as droughts.C withstand the harmful effect of pesticides.D yield bumper harvests.68. Which of the following is NOT the reason that farmers replace their folk varieties with one uniform crop?A They want to make more money.B They want to have a higher output.C They want to prevent the destruction of human food.D They want to make their products more attractive. Passage FourIt is a well-documented fact that women still live longer than men. A 1998 study by Harvard Medical School geriatrician Thomas Perls offers two reasons: one is the evolutionary drive to pass on her genes; the other is the need to stay healthy enough to rear as many children as possible. A man’s purpose is simply to carry genes that ensure longevity and pass them on to his children.Okay, so that’s the legacy of our cave-dweller past. But what is it about a man’s lifestyle that reduces his longevity? As action moviemakers know all too well , men are supercharged with testosterone. Aside from forcing us to watch frenzied movies like The Matrix Reloaded, the testes-produced hormone also triggers riskier behavior and aggression, and increases levels of harmful cholesterol, raising the risk of heart disease of stroke. Meanwhile, the female hormone chops harmful cholesterol and raises “good” cholesterol. As Perls’s study points out: “Between ages 15 and 24, men are four to five times more likely to die than women. This time frame coincides with the onset of puberty and an increase in reckless and violent behavior in males. Researchers refer to it as a ‘testosterone storm.’ Most deaths in this male group come from motor vehicle accidents, followed by homicide, suicide….and drownings.”While all this jumping from tall buildings may result in some accidental death, it still doesn’t account for the onset of fatal illnesses at an earlier age. Statistically, men are crippled more quickly by illnesses like heart disease, stroke and cancer. A Singapore study found that while men were diagnosed with chronic illness two years earlier than women, women were also disabled by their illnesses four years later. Men more often engage in riskier habits like drinking alcohol and using recreational drugs, as well as eating to excess. And the stereotype about men being adverse to seeing a doctor on a regular basis? Studies have shown its’ true.If your goal is to become the first 100-year-old man on your family tree, there are some things you can do to boost your odds. One is to examine what centenarians are doing right. According to the ongoing New EnglandCentenarian Study, the largest comprehensive study of centenarians in the world, they can fend off or even escape age-associated diseases like heart attack, stroke, canc er, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Ninety percent of those studied were functionally independent for the vast majority of their lives up until the age of 92 , and 75% were just as autonomous at an average age of 95. “Centenarians disprove the perception that ‘the older you get, the sicker you get.’ Centenarians teach us that the older you get, the healthier you’ve been.”69. This passage mainly discusses ________A why women lead a healthier life than men.B how women can live longer and stay healthy.C what keeps men from enjoying a longer life span.D whether men’s life style lead s to their early death.70. According to Thomas Perls, which of the following is a major factor contributing to the relative longevity of women over men?A Their natural urge to remain healthy.B Their greater natural drive to pass on genes.C Their need to bear healthy offspring.D Their desire to have more children.71. The author mentions “the legacy of our cave-dweller past” to __________A support the argument about women’s role in rearing children.B summarize a possible cause of different life expectancies.C challenge the th eory about our ancestor’s behaviour patterns.D illustrate the history of human evolution process.72. According to the passage, testosterone is a hormone that _______A increases as men grow older.B reduces risk factors in male behaviour.C lead s to aggressive behaviour and heart disease.D accounts for women’s dislike for violent films.73. Compared with women, men as a whole ____.A suffer from depression more often.B suffer from diseases later than women.C are reluctant to have physical checkups.D are not affected by violent movies.74. Centenarians refer to people who ____A live longer than females.B live at the turn of the century.C are extremely independent.D are a hundred years or older.Passage FiveLast year, Curt Dunnam bought a Chevrolet Blazer with one of the most popular new features in high-end cars: the Onstar personal security system. The heavily advertised communications and tracking feature is used nationwide by more than two million drivers, who simply push a button to connect, via a built-in cell-phone, to a member of the Onstar staff. A Global Positioning System, or G.P.S., helps the employee give verbal directions to the driver or locate the car after an accident. The company can even send a signal to unlock car doors for locked-out owners, or honk the horn to help people find their cars in an endless plain of parking spaces. The biggest selling point for the system is its use in frustrating car thieves. Once an owner reports to the police that a car has been stolen, the company can track it to help arrest the thieves, a service it performs about 400 times each month. But for Mr. Dunnam, the more he learned about his car’s security features, the less secure he felt. He has enough technical knowledge to worry that someone else---- law enforcement officers, or hackers----could listen in one his phone calls, or gain control over his automotive systems without his knowledge or consent. “While I don’t believe G.M. intentionally designed this syst em to facilitate such activities, they sure have made it easy,” he said. Mr. Dunnam said he had become even more concerned because of a federal appeals court case involving a criminal investigation, in which federal authorities had demanded that a company attach a wiretap to tracking services like those installed in his car. The suit did not reveal which company was involved. A three-judge panel in San Francisco rejected the request, but not on privacy grounds; the panel said the wiretap would interfere with the operation of the safety services. Onstar has said that its equipment was not involved in that case. An Onstar spokeswoman, Geri Lama, suggested that Mr. Dunnam’s worries were overblown. The signals that the companysends to unlock car doors or track location-based information can be triggered only with a secure exchange of specific identifying data, which ought to hinder all but the most determined hackers, she said.75. The most important feature of Onstar advertised by the company is that it can ____A help people find their cars in the big parking lot.B giver verbal direction to drivers lost in unfamiliar areas.C open car doors for owners unable to find their car keys.D make it difficult for thieves to get away with stolen cars.76. We can conclude from the passage that Onstar is ______A too complicated to use especially for new drivers.B not as usual and effective as the company claims.C popularly used among the more expensive cars.D not widely used in the country except in a few states.77. Mr. Dunnam felt dissatisfied with OnStar because _______A his personal information might be revealed.B his demand for better services was rejected.C OnStar posed potential danger to driving safety.D OnStar had been developed mainly to facilitate police work.78. The three-judge panel rejected the request of the federal authorities because _____A it was in violation of individual privacy.B it was against the Constitution of the nation.C the wiretap might affect the safety of personal data.D the wiretap might reduce the efficiency of the system.79. OnStar spokeswoman suggested that Mr. Dunnam’s worries ___________A exaggerated the problems that might occur.B represented reasonable concerns of customers.C presented problems for them to solve.D made sense due to the existence of hackers.80. The passage is mainly written to _______A promote the brand and sale of OnStar.B pint out the worries caused by OnStar.C introduce the new features of OnStar.D show the future trend represented by OnStar .Paper TwoPart V Translation (30 minutes, 20 points )Section A (15minutes, 10 points )As a branch of cognitive science, linguistics has undergone systematic inquiry and elaboration in terms of language acquisition and classification. When it comes to language learning, the spelling of Chinese characters is notoriously difficult to Westerners, who are often left puzzled about numerous strokes. 2018北京市学位英语真题及答案
2018北京市学士学位英语考前押题(考试时间120分钟)PartⅠReading Comprehension(30%)Directions:There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.You should decide on the best choice and blacken the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.Passage1Questions1to5are based on the following passage. There seems never to have been a civilization without toys, but when and how they developed is unknown. They probably came about just to give children something to do.(76)In the ancient world,as in today, most boys played with some kinds of toys and most girls with another. In societies where social roles are rigidly determined, boys pattern their play after the activities of their fathers and girls after the tasks of their mothers. This is true because boys and girls are being prepared, even in play to step into the roles and responsibilities of the adult world. What is remarkable about the history of toys is not so much how they changed over the centuries but how much they have remained the same. The changes have been mostly in terms of craftsmanship, mechanics and technology. It is the universality of toys with regard to their development in all parts of the world and their persistence to the present that is amazing. In Egypt, the America,China,Japan and among the Arctic people, generally the same kinds of toys appeared. Variations depended on local customs and ways of life because toys imitate their surroundings.(77)Nearly every civilization had dolls, little weapons, toy soldiers, tiny animals and vehicles.Because toys can be generally regarded as a kind of art form, they have not been subject to technological leaps that characterize inventions for adult use.The progress from the wheel to the ox cart to the automobile is a direct line of ascent(进步).The progress from a rattle(拨浪鼓)used by a baby in3,000B.C.to one used by an infant today, however,is not characterized by inventiveness. Each rattle is the product of the artistic tastes of the times and subject to the limitations of available materials.1.The reason why the toys most boys play with are different from those that girls play with is that.[A]their social roles are rigidly determined[B]most boys would like to follow their fathers'professions[C]boys like to play with their fathers while girls with their mothers[D]they like challenging activities2.One aspect of“the universality of toys”lies in the fact that.[A]technological advances have greatly improved the durability of toys[B]the improvement of craftsmanship in making toys depends on the efforts of universities [C]the exploration of the universe has led to the creation of new kinds of toys[D]the basic characteristics of toys are the same over the world3.Which of the following is the author's view on the historical development of toys?[A]The craftsmanship in toy-making has remained essentially unchanged.[B]Toys have remained basically the same all through the centuries.[C]The toy industry has witnessed great leaps in technology in recent years.[D]Toys are playing an increasingly important role in shaping a child's character.4.Regarded as a kind of art form, toys.[A]follow a direct line of ascent[B]also appeal greatly to adults[C]are not characterized by technological progress[D]reflect the pace of social progress5.The author uses the example of a rattle to show that.[A]in toy-making there is a continuity in the use of materials[B]even the simplest toys can reflect the progress of technology[C]it often takes a long time to introduce new technology into toy-making[D]even a simple toy can mirror the artistic tastes of the timesPassage2Questions6to10are based on the following passage. On the night of May7,1942,during World WarⅡ,a plane took off from an Air Force base in England to stop German fighters over the English Channel.Pilot of the plane was Captain Thomas Nash.Looking eastward,Nash saw twelve orange lights in a row, moving at a fantastic rate of speed. As a sophisticated flyer,he had never seen anything like them.Thinking that they might be a new German weapon,he decided to chase them.(78)But when he swung the plane around and headed directly for the lights, they vanished.Captain Nash may have been the first to see such orange lights but he wasn’t the last. His experience was repeated several times by pilots during World War II in Europe and the Far East. What were they?No one knows for sure, but there is an interesting theory to explain them. According to this theory, the orange lights are space animals—animals specially adapted to life in the upper atmosphere just as some creatures are adapted to life at the bottom of the sea. These space animals, the theory says, live so far up in the atmosphere that they are invisible from earth. They feed in part on the air and partly on energy from sunlight.Being almost pure energy themselves, they can adjust their bodies to glow at night.During the day they become invisible. Before World War II,continues the theory, there was little radiated energy available on the earth’s surface. Then came the development of rockets, atomic reactors, and hydroelectric plants.(79)The space creatures are attracted by these sources of energy. At night when no energy emitted from sunlight, they go down into the lower levels to search a meal. They may even drift into the scope of human eyesight. This explains the fact that they have been sighted periodically from the earth since1942.6.The best statement of the main idea of this passage is that.[A]Captain Nash saw twelve orange lights moving at a fantastic rate of speed[B]Captain Nash may have been the first to see lights in space[C]According to an interesting theory, the orange lights are space animals[D]The mysteries of nature can be completely explained7.The strange orange lights were first seen.[A]from the ground[B]from a rocket ship[C]during World War I[D]during World WarⅡ8.The theory says that during the daytime the space animals.[A]glow brightly in the sky[B]are invisible[C]can be seen in the earth[D]visit the earth’s surface9.If the space animal theory is true, the creatures go down to the lower regions in order to.[A]escape detection[B]arouse curiosity[C]search for food[D]make contact with man10.The space animal theory would seem to indicate that.[A]living creatures are extremely adaptable[B]life in space is impossible for man[C]the fittest creatures always survive[D]life can not exist in the depth of the seaPassage3Questions11to15are based on the following passage. In many businesses, computers have largely replaced paperwork, because they are fast, flexible, and do not make mistakes. As one banker said,“Unlike humans, computers never have a bad day.”And they are honest. Many banks advertise that their transactions are“untouched by human hands”and therefore safe from human temptation.Obviously, computers have no reason to steal money. But they also have no conscience, and the growing number of computer crimes shows they can be used to steal.Computer criminals don't use guns. And even if they are caught,it is hard to punish them because there are no witnesses and often no evidence.(80)A computer cannot remember who used it,it simply does what it is told. The head teller at a New York City Bank used a computer to steal more than one and a half billion dollars in just four years. No one noticed this theft because he moved the money from one account to another. Each time a customer he had robbed questioned the balance in his account, the teller claimed a computer error, then replaced the missing money from someone else's account. This man was caught only because he was a gambler. When the police broke up an illegal gambling operation, his name was in the records. Some employees use the computer's power to get revenge on employers they consider unfair. Recently,a large insurance company fired its computer-tape librarian for reasons that involved her personal rather than her professional life. She was given thirty days'notice. In those thirty days, she erased all the company's computerized records. Most computer criminals have been minor employees. Now police wonder if this is“the tip of the iceberg”.As one official says,“I have the feeling that there is more crime out there than we are catching. What we are seeing now is all so poorly done.I wonder what the real experts are doing—the ones who really know how a computer works.”11.The passage is mainly about.[A]computer crimes[B]banking via computer[C]computer errors[D]computer businesses12.Why are the transactions in many banks claimed to be safe?[A]Because they are handled by computers.[B]Because humans are not allowed to operate computers.[C]Because there are no mistakes what so ever.[D]Because computers do not steal money.13.The head teller covered up his theft by.[A]replacing the money with what he had gained at the gambling house[B]saying sorry to the customer[C]putting the money back[D]moving the money back from another account14.Thirty days after the librarian was given the notice, she had to.[A]take her revenge on the company[B]leave her job[C]erase all the company's records[D]admit her mistake15.What can we infer from the passage?[A]Minor employers are more likely to commit crimes.[B]Crimes committed by computer experts are difficult to detect.[C]Computer criminals are usually from the cold regions.[D]There are too many criminals for the police to catch.PartⅡVocabulary and Structure(30%)Directions:In this part there are30incomplete sentences. For each sentence there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.Choose the ONE answer that 同等学力人员申请硕士学位英语水平全国统一 考试大纲
同等学力人员申请硕士学位英语水平全国统一考试大纲全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Big Test for Grown-Ups Who Want to Go to Grad SchoolHey kids! Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a grown-up student? Well, some grown-ups who didn't go to university right after high school still want to get a master's degree later in life. But before they can do that, they have to take a very important test called the English Proficiency Test for Non-degree Graduate Candidates. Sounds like a mouthful, doesn't it?This test is a big deal because it shows if the grown-ups are good enough at English to listen to lectures, read books, write papers, and chat with their classmates in English at the university. It's kind of like the tests you take at school, but much harder and longer! The test has four parts: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Let me tell you about each one.ListeningIn this part, the grown-ups have to listen really carefully to recordings of lectures, conversations, and other things. Then they have to answer questions about what they heard. It's like a game of "Who can be the best listener?"ReadingHere, the grown-ups have to read all sorts of things like textbooks, journals, and articles. Then they have to show they understood what they read by answering questions. It's like a big reading comprehension test!WritingThis is where the grown-ups have to write a whole essay or report. The test gives them a topic, and they have to write clearly and correctly about it. No doodling or writing silly stories here!SpeakingIn this last part, the grown-ups have to talk out loud and answer questions. They might have to describe pictures, give opinions, or pretend they're teachers giving a lesson. It's like show-and-tell but without the toys!Whew, that's a lot of stuff to do in one test, right? The grown-ups have to prepare really hard by practicing their English skills. They might read lots of books, listen to podcasts, write practice essays, and even hire tutors to help them get ready. On test day, the grown-ups go to a special test center and spend several hours going through all the different sections. When it's finally over, they're probably pretty tired! But if they did well, they'll get good scores that can help them get into the master's program they want.So you see, getting into grad school as an adult is not easy at all. The grown-ups have to work really, really hard, just like you kids work hard at school every day. Maybe after taking this big test, they'll feel like kids again, excited to learn new things!Does anyone here want to be a grown-up student someday? If so, you'd better start practicing your English skills now. Who knows, maybe I'll see you taking the big test in a few years! Just don't forget to grab a snack before it starts. Tests always make me hungry!篇2The Big English Test for Grown-Up StudentsHey there, fellow kids! Are you ready to learn about a super-duper important test that some big kids have to take? Get excited, because we're going to explore the National Unified Examination for English Proficiency for Students Applying for Master's Degree with Equivalent Education! Whew, that's a mouthful, isn't it? Let's just call it the "Big English Test" for short. Now, you might be wondering, "What's a master's degree, and why do some people need to take a special test for it?" Well, let me explain it to you in a way that even a kiddo like you can understand. You see, after finishing their regular school years, some people want to keep learning and studying even more. They want to become super-duper smart and knowledgeable in a particular subject, like science, math, or even something as cool as rocket engineering! These people are called "graduate students," and they go to a place called "graduate school" to earn a special degree called a "master's degree."But here's the thing: not everyone who wants to go to graduate school has taken the same path. Some people might have finished their regular schooling a long time ago, or they might have learned in different ways, like through work experience or self-study. These people are called "students withequivalent education," and they need to prove that they have the same level of knowledge and skills as the students who went to regular schools. That's where the Big English Test comes in! It's a special exam that tests how well these grown-up students can read, write, listen, and speak in English. You see, English is asuper-important language for studying and working in many fields, so graduate schools want to make sure that their students can communicate effectively in English. The Big English Test has four main parts:Reading Comprehension: This part tests how well you can understand written English texts. The test might ask you to read articles, stories, or other materials and answer questions about them.Listening Comprehension: In this part, you'll have to listen to audio recordings, like lectures or conversations, and answer questions about what you heard.Writing: Here, you'll need to show off your English writing skills by completing tasks like writing essays, reports, or other types of written assignments.Speaking: Finally, the speaking part of the test will require you to have conversations in English and possibly give presentations or participate in discussions.Sounds like a lot, doesn't it? But don't worry, the test is designed to be fair and to give everyone a chance to show off their English skills, no matter how they learned them. Now, you might be thinking, "But why do I need to know about this Big English Test? I'm just a kid!" Well, my friend, it's never too early to start thinking about your future! By mastering English, you'll be able to communicate with people from all around the world and unlock a whole universe of knowledge and opportunities. So, there you have it, kids! The Big English Test might sound like a big deal, but it's just a way for grown-up students to show off their English skills and prove that they're ready to take on the challenges of graduate school. That's a really long name, isn't it? I'll just call it the "Big English Test" for short. So, what's on this Big English Test? Well, it has four main parts: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Let me tell you a bit about each one.First, there's the listening part. In this part, the grown-ups have to listen to people talking in English and answer questions about what they heard. It's kind of like when we play those games in class where the teacher reads a story, and we have to answer questions about it afterwards. But for the grown-ups, the stories are much harder and longer, and they have to understand everything perfectly.Next, there's the reading part. This is where the grown-ups have to read all sorts of long and complicated texts in English, like books, articles, and even scientific papers! They have to understand every single word and be able to answer questions about what they read. It's like when we have to read those really long books for our book reports, but even harder! Then, there's the writing part. In this part, the grown-ups have to write essays and other types of texts in English. They have to make sure their writing is clear, well-organized, and has no mistakes. It's like when we have to write stories or reports for school, but the grown-ups have to write about really serious and complicated topics. Finally, there's the speaking part. This is where thegrown-ups have to talk in English and have conversations with other people. They have to be able to express their ideas clearlyand understand what the other person is saying. 学位英语口语考试 自我介绍
学位英语口语考试自我介绍1. Hi, everyone! I'm [your name]. You know, taking this degree English oral exam is like climbing a big mountain for me. I used to be so shy when it came to speaking English. I remember once in an English corner, I just stood there, tongue - tied, while others were chatting away freely. But that's all in the past. Now I'm ready to show you who I am.2. I'm from [your hometown]. It's a place full of surprises. Just likea treasure chest, every corner has something interesting. I grew up there with my family. My mom, she's like a superwoman. She always encouraged me to learn English, saying it's like a key to a new world. And here I am, taking this exam.3. In school, I had some really great English teachers. One of them, Mr. [teacher's name], was so passionate. He made English classes feel like a party. He used to say, "English is not just a subject, it's a bridge to different cultures." And that's exactly how I see it now.4. My hobbies? Well, I'm a big fan of reading English novels. It's like diving into a whole new universe. I remember the first time I read "Pride and Prejudice". I was so lost in the story that I forgot the time. And this love for English books has really helped me with my language skills.5. I also like watching English movies. It's like having a window into the Western world. Have you ever watched "The Godfather"? The dialogues in it are just amazing. I often imitate the actors' accents, trying to make my English sound more natural.6. I've made some foreign friends online too. Chatting with them is like a cultural exchange. One friend from the UK told me about their tea - drinking culture. It was so fascinating. Through these interactions, my English has improved a lot.7. You might wonder how I prepare for this oral exam. Well, I practice speaking every day. I talk to myself in front of the mirror, just like I'm having a conversation with a friend. It's a bit silly, but it works!8. I'm not perfect, of course. There are times when I make mistakes. But that's okay, right? Just like when you learn to ride a bike, you fall a few times before you can ride smoothly. English is the same.9. Imagine a world without English, how boring it would be!10. I'm really excited to be here today. This exam is a big opportunity for me. It's like a door that can lead me to more possibilities. I hope I can show my best side.11. I have a dream. I want to travel around the world one day, and English will be my magic wand. Just think about it, being able tomunicate freely with people in different countries. How cool is that?12. In my daily life, I often use English to write diaries. It's like having a secret conversation with myself. Sometimes I write aboutmy day, and other times I write about my thoughts and feelings.13. I'm also part of an English study group. We discuss different topics, like environmental protection. It's like a brainstorming session. Everyone has different ideas, and we learn from each other.14. My family is very supportive of my English learning. My dad once said, "Learning English is like building a tower. You need to lay the bricks one by one." And I'm trying my best to build my "English tower".15. I've participated in some English speechpetitions. The first time I was on stage, I was as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. 1.Man and NatureGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525.Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: Which is more powerful, man or nature? For my apart, I absolutely vote for nature. First, human beings are just a part of nature, and will return to nature. So man can never be powerful than nature. Second, it’s true that man can change nature by developing advanced technology, but cannot totally control it. Nature, on the contrary, can destroy mankind easily. Just imagine every year in every corner of the world, how many disasters are caused by earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, tsunamis, thunderstorms, snow and ice, etc. The human race finds itself helpless before such natural catastrophes, not to mention other weather-induced damages or diseases like AIDS or some cancers. Anyway, what humans can do is only to follow the laws of the Great Nature, not to break them; otherwise, they are sure to be punished by the nature, which is definitely more powerful than mankind.Thank you for your time. This is Wang Shaoguang.2.Making friendsGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525. Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: What qualities would you value when making friends? For my apart, the first thing we should consider is the responsibility. If one can be responsible, he/she must be serious-minded and mature. I don’t talk too much, I just wanna say a person with conscientiousness does things with you can make you feel steady and sure. And that’s why I reckon this factor is vital for making friends. Secondly, honesty is another important element. Just as the saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Last but not least, I want to remind all of us of on e words: “Not only should we make friends with those who we can believe in, but also get ready to come to their help without hesitation.” Only in this way can we make true friends.Thank you for your time. This is Wang Shaoguang.3.IntervieweeGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525. Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: What qualities are necessary for being a successful interviewer? As far as I’m concerned, the following qualities I believe are basic and necessary:cational background. At least you should be a university graduate.2.Professional ability. Skills in computer using. Proficiency in the foreign language, especially English.3. A good knowledge of the company. One should know the history, procession andthe future development of the concerned company.4.Good manners. Always remember to knock the door before you entering the room, and don’t sit down until you asked to. Finally, don’t forgot wearing smile on your face.5.Self-confidence. Keep your eye contact all the way and shake up the handpowerfully.I reckon that if you can do all of the five points, you will find a satisfying job. Best wishes for you. This is Wang Shaoguang, thank you for your time.4.PressureGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525.Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: Why do people in current society feel time-stressed? What’s the proper attitude toward the quick pace of life? Okay, let me answer the former question first. Currently, people in this competitive society often feel stressed, especially the young people. So, what caused this? For my apart, the reasons can be divided into 3 sides. The first one causing pressure is the peer pressure, which may from our studies, our work, our emotion world and so on. All of all, these things can make us become aware of the difference between ourselves and others. Secondly, parental pressure is also an important element. Our parents usually have a high expectation to their children, but the young people cannot live up to their expectation easily. Finally, it’s societal pressure. Society is a complex world, which includes a lot ofpressure, such as the housing pressure, social pressure, competitive pressure, etc. As for the attitude to pressure, I wanna say one words “Tomorrow is another day.” And pressure is ubiquitous, we should be an optimist, keep smile every day, we’ll be better.Thank you for your time. This is Wang Shaoguang.5.Academic DishonestyGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525.Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: What are the reasons for academic dishonesty? How can it be prevented? To answer the question, the first thing we should know is that academic dishonesty is exit in about two persons: students and scholars. For students, their motive for doing this is no more than to achieve a good grade or a scholarship. For scholars, they want to get a senior title or an honor. What they do are all for their benefit, but this is a wrong way, which just cheats themselves and others and is to blame. To prevent such awful things happening, I reckon that our government should establish and perfect the relevant legal system firstly. And the educational department should popularize honesty education. In recent years, our country has put “cheating in exam” into penal code, from this thing we can know the importance of honesty, so I hope every citizen could be honesty.Thank you for your time. This is Wang Shaoguang.6.OptimistGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525. Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: Would you describe yourself as an optimist or a pessimist? For my apart, I’m truly an optimist. I live in a positive attitude, sometimes I meet some problems, I’m willing to solve them with others or do it myself rather than escaping them. And I believe that no one ever succeeds without a lot of effort, and I can put in as much effort as anyone who has ever succeeded. Life's challenges present me with incredible learning opportunities; When bad things happen, these are opportunities for learning and growth. And I like it, I like challenge, I ‘m not afraid of it. Believe in “everything will be OK andtomorrow is another day. Just as Winston Churchill ‘s saying goes, "I am an optimist. It does not seem too much use being anything else." That’s all.Thank you for your time. This is Wang Shaoguang.7.The Greatest InventionGood morning! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525.Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: What, do you think, is the greatest invention in the past few decades? For my apart, I reckon that computer and the IT industry is the greatest invention in Twenty-first Century. These things are completely changing our lives. Computers are being used more and more extensively in the world today! In the past, we got information by reading book and newspaper and watching TV!Nowadays we can use computers surfing the Internet to have word straightway! My name is Wang Shaoguang, and my student ID is 9171010E0525.Now please allow me to talk about the first topic: What are the inventions that have caused much controversy in the past few decades?1.Penicillin, was invented in 1928 by Fleming, which had been applied to diminishinginflammation since it was found. But now the abuse of antibiotics has become a serious problem. If we let it go, we will grow super bacteria and no medicine can kill them.2.The cloning technology. With the birth of Dolly, the controversy over cloning hasnever stopped. On the one hand, if we can use cloning technology to produce human organs, which can replace our damaged organs, our doctors would savemore patients. But on the other hand, the ethical problems caused by individual cloning are a shock to the current social civilization. For my apart, I approve of the Chinese government ‘s principle of cloning technology: Prohibition of reproductive cloning and no objection to therapeutic.Thank you for your time. This is Wang Shaoguang.9.Life is betterGood morning! If you could have lived through a different age or decade, which would you choose and why? For my apart, our life is better than in the past in general. This is a high-tech age, we have all kinds of cars to use, which is convenient for us to travel and transport. We have computer and Internet, we can go shopping online and connect with our friends all over the world by the Internet. Our life will be more and more intelligent with the development of the AI technology. But on the contrary, our environment has been badly damaged, global warming is becoming more and more serious. Maybe we should slow down and think about how to solve this problem. So if I can live through a different age, I wanna go back to my hometown 30 years ago, I want to see the blue sky and the white clouds, the clear river and so on.Thank you for your time. What are the advantages anddisadvantages of Chinese people’s exposure to different languages and cultures? Will this influence the people’s cultural identity and social morality?9.In your opinion, is Greg Mortenson a hero or a fraud?Why?10.“Just do it” has been a popular advertising slogan, which enables us think of Nike products immediately.Could you work out as many advertising slogans as you can? Which one do you like best? Why?1.What we call health generally includes two parts: physical health and mental health. A healthy lifestyle should cover these two parts. On the one hand, we should have a good habit to keep early hours and never stay up late. Besides, a balanced diet is also important to keep fit. Too much fat, salt or sugar will cause damage to our organs. In addition, sports play an important role in keeping fit. A proper amount of sports can accelerate the metabolism of human body and strengthen the immune system. On the other hand, we need to have an optimistic attitude toward our lives. Worry, anger or high pressure may cause endocrine disorder of our body and further, lead to a sub-healthy state. The sub-health state will indirectly lead to all kinds of deceases by reducing immunity. Nowadays, many young people prefer not to pay enough attention on their health, but we shall remember that we can’t do anything without health. Therefore, it’s very important to live on a healthy lifestyle.2.In my opinion, the only job for students is to study. So firstly, we should make ourselves aware of this fact and remind us constantly. We can write down some famous sayings on notebooks as mottos, or we can use some cheering pictures as backgrounds of computers or cell phones.Secondly, we can make a schedule to make the study tasks more concrete. Sometimes, we will face a dilemma that we want to learn something but don’t know where to start. Then due to some reasons, we prefer to put off the plan. And there is also sometime we just want to have a break, so we turn on the cell phones or computers and forget the time. That’s why we need a schedule to take fully control of our time. Besides, never turn on the digital devices before jobs done. Finally, we can use a particular classroom rather than dorms to begin our study. By this way, we can get rid of most of attractions disturbing our study and there is a implementation to ourselves to step into study mode when we reach the particular classroom. After that, open the books, take some notes and enjoy the harvest of study.3. My favorite athlete is Tom Brady. He is a football player and works for New England Patriots. He is a legendary Quarterback in NFL history. By now, he has won 3 super bowl MVPs and led his team win 5 champion trophies. Generally, most athletes will retire at 30-35 years old, especially in sports need excellent physical quality like football. But Tom is 41years old now, he is still the core player of team. Tom is very good at passing balls in someamazing ways. As a senior player, he has a very sharp eye based on his vast experiences to find the weakness of opponent’s defense. When he finds the point, he will point at his helmet with his hands and shout “alarm”. Then the whole team will assist him to complete his attack. In September, the new season will start. I’m looking forward to witnessing his perfect performence this year.4. In my opinion, euthanasia should be legal but not now. Actually, the right of choice is a part of the basic human rights. After all, choosing to die benefits those who have incurable diseases. Patients choose to die in peace rather than keep suffering endless pain. Family members represent patients who are impossible to wake up to choose to die in peace to decrease the heavy economic burdens. These are far more helpful to patients and their families than we had thought. Besides, in some countries, euthanasia rather than traditional ways is used in execution of death penalty. The high cost makes judges think twice before they make final sentences. This avoids the abuse of laws in some extend. For these reasons euthanasia should be legal. However, we must notice the facts that, there will be potential murder hide behind the benefits of euthanasia. We can hardily knowwhether it is the patients’ wish to die under the current supervision system. And it is extraordinary dangerous some illegal parties acquire the materials of it. Since there is no complete regulation yet, it’s not a proper time to let euthanasia be legal at this very moment.5. In my opinion, specialized knowledge is more important. In recent years, there are more and more graduate students entering the job market. It’s getting harder to find a good job if we don’t have special knowledge in our major field. Besides, special knowledge makes us familiar with our future job and we can adapt to it soon and make some achievements earlier. Finally, the procedure of learning some special knowledge is good for getting a further concept of the structure of a field. It is important for a practitioner to follow the overall structure and make plans for the future. However, this doesn’t mean wide range of learning is useless. We still need a wide range knowledge to have a thorough acknowledge of the development of our society and keep adjusting our positions and special knowledge to face the changes.6. Although it is not obvious, sexual discrimination can be seen everywhere in job market. We can see male candidatesare preferred more by employers than female candidates even if they both meet the requirements. Besides, we can see the average salary of female employees are much lower than male while there are very few female staff in high poisons. In the past time, the main method to support a family is physical labor. Due to the nature, women became a disadvantaged group. As time goes by, mental job broke the wall that keep w omen from working. However, the society hasn’t become that open as it’s supposed to be. Traditions still control the majority to hold that women just need to take care of their families rather than have any achievement in careers.7. Mrs. Sommers is a typical household woman trapped in her home. She calculates every cent carefully and spend them on places in need to run the bad off family. All she concerns is to take care of her family except herself. She sacrifices everything to make her husband and children to live in comfort. She is absolutely a good mother and meanwhile, she is just a normal person with her own needs. The windfall acted like a key, made her loose the repressive needs and dreams to enjoy her life. We shouldn’t blame her for selfish, instead, we should blame the unfair traditions to treat women like machines, to press their needs and keepthem working in their homes like birds.8. Nowadays many foreign cultural products have been brought into China, especially some films and books. There may carry some different values and attitudes beside entertainment. Actually, it broadens the horizon of people and make them aware there are something different happening some where else in the world. Besides, they bring some better ideas or lifestyles suitable for modern society to people. It indeed makes our country a bit more comprehensive and ordered. However, foreign culture has made a culture shock with our traditional culture. Many young people prefer to abandon all the traditions and accept everything in foreign culture unconditionally. They would like to only celebrate foreign festivities and become too self-centered without a proper guide. It will lead to a great loss for those precious traditions and makes bad morality popular.9. In my opinion, Mortenson is a hero although he may not act like what he says. The standard we judge a person is a hero or not shouldn’t only focus on what he has done, it should be based on the impact he creates. Even if Mortenson may not suffer those disasters, he may use those charities togain profits, his book indeed recovered the misery of people living in Mideast and woke up people’s s ympathy. We can see there are many organizations inspired by Mortenson start to help people in need. In this way, Mortenson complete his goal to inspire people. Besides, heroes are not always true. People need heroes in some special situation to lead the direction and give them hope. Many famous heroic stories are made up or polished, like King Arthur and Lei Feng. But we still treat them as heroes because they give us a moral model and a faith of virtues in this world.10. There are many famous slogans like “Think different” for Apple, “Impossible is nothing” for Adidas. But the one I like best is “Connecting people” for Nokia. It app ears in the splash screen with a pair of holding hands. This slogan uses a pun. It matches the main function of cell phone, which is communication. And it also tells the idea of Nokia, that technology needs to be connected with people. Indeed, Nokia made a series of inventions to make cell phone much smarter and this made the slogan more than just an ad, it has become an attitude。
