Ladies and gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. Today, I stand before you to address a common enemy that plagues many of us: procrastination. As we all know, procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing tasks to a later time, often with negative consequences. In this speech, I will delveinto the causes of procrastination, its effects on our lives, and practical strategies to overcome it. Let's embark on this journey together and conquer procrastination once and for all.Firstly, let's understand why procrastination is so prevalent in our society. There are several factors that contribute to this bad habit. One of the primary reasons is perfectionism. We often fear that our work may not be up to par with our expectations, so we delay starting or completing tasks. This fear of failure can be paralyzing, preventing us from taking action.Another factor is the lack of motivation. Sometimes, we may not see the value or importance of a task, which leads to a lack of interest in performing it. Moreover, we may be overwhelmed by the complexity or volume of the task, making it seem unattainable. This overwhelmingfeeling can cause us to procrastinate, as we feel that there is no point in starting if we cannot complete the task perfectly.Additionally, our environment plays a significant role in procrastination. Distractions, such as social media, phone notifications, or even a comfortable chair, can divert our attention from the task at hand. These distractions can create a sense of urgency, making usbelieve that we have more time to complete the task later. Now that we understand the causes of procrastination, let's explore its effects on our lives. Firstly, procrastination can lead to poor time management. When we delay tasks, we may find ourselves running out of time to complete them, resulting in rushed work and lower quality outcomes. This can ultimately affect our performance, both personallyand professionally.Furthermore, procrastination can cause stress and anxiety. The pressure of impending deadlines and the fear of failure can create a negative cycle, where we feel more inclined to delay tasks even further. This stress can have detrimental effects on our mental and physical health, leading to burnout and decreased productivity. Moreover, procrastination can damage our self-esteem and self-worth. When we repeatedly fail to meet our own expectations, we may begin to doubt our abilities and worth. This can have long-lasting consequences on our self-confidence and overall well-being.So, how can we overcome this pesky habit? Here are some practical strategies to help you conquer procrastination:1. Break down tasks: Divide your tasks into smaller, manageable parts. This will make the task seem less daunting and more achievable. By completing smaller tasks, you will gain momentum and feel more motivated to continue.2. Set clear goals: Define your goals and objectives clearly. This will help you stay focused and committed to your tasks. Set realistic deadlines and prioritize your tasks based on their importance and urgency.3. Create a conducive environment: Eliminate distractions by creating a workspace that is conducive to productivity. This may involve turningoff your phone, using noise-canceling headphones, or setting specific times for checking emails and social media.4. Use the Pomodoro Technique: This technique involves working for 25 minutes and then taking a 5-minute break. After four cycles, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes. This method helps maintain focus and prevents burnout.5. Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself when you procrastinate. Understand that everyone struggles with this habit at times. Acknowledge your progress and celebrate small victories along the way.6. Seek support: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who can hold you accountable and provide motivation. Joining a study group or hiring a coach can also be beneficial.7. Reflect on past successes: Remind yourself of times when you overcame procrastination and achieved your goals. This will help build confidence and motivate you to continue overcoming this habit. In conclusion, procrastination is a common enemy that we all face. By understanding its causes, effects, and implementing practical strategies, we can conquer this habit and pave the way for productivity and success. Remember, it is never too late to start. Take control of your time, commit to your goals, and embrace the journey to a more fulfilling life.Thank you for your attention, and may we all conquer procrastination together.。
英语演讲拖延症PPT和台词procrastination5分钟演讲
Today I will talk about procrastination. The topic is from TED, I think it is really meaningful, so in order to do a vivid lecture, I will use PPT to show some pictures during my free talk. At first, it comes to my college life. In college, my major is vehicle engineering, after the class we often do some papers. When we do the papers, we might spread the work out a little like this. So you know, we get started maybe a little slowly, but it will increases step by step, until everything gets done, things stay civil. And I would want to do like that. That will be the plan. But then, actually, there may be something, and finally, I just can do like this. And that will happen to every paper. When I am going to do my graduation thesis. The paper should takes one year to finish, so this is a big project, I know I couldn’t do that as before, so I made a new plan, and I decided to go something like this. This is how the year would go. So I started off light, and bump it up in the middle ,and at the end ,I would do more efforts. Just like staircase, one step by step, it seems not hard. No big deal, right? However the funniest thing happened. At first several months, Time came and went, I couldn’t quite do stuff. So I’d made another plan, like this. then ,those middle months actually went by, and I didn’t really write words, and so we were here. And two months turned into one month, turned into two weeks, one day I woke up, with 3 days until the deadline! I’m not having written a word. So I did only thing I could. I wrote 30 pages over 72 hours, stay up two all-night, and at last I made it at just the deadline. Thanks god. I thought that was the end of everything, but one week later, I got a call, from my teacher, he said:” is it zhangjunhan?” I said” yeah” he said” we need to talk about your thesis” I said ”OK”, and he said ”your paper is the best one we have ever s een”, That did not happen. The truth is my thesis is very bad. I just want to enjoy the moment when all of you thought ”This guy is amazing! ” No no it was very very bad. So according to my experience, we can know the procrastination is very harmful for us to do tasks. Well, how to overcome the procrastination? Here I give you 4 tips. Ask yourself why you procrastinate. If you are unsure, keep a daily log of your activities at work to discover where you are spending (or wasting) your time. This will help you uncover why you are procrastinating. Until you discover the why, it will be harder for you to combat the habit. By doing what you least like first, you can get ahead of procrastination. At the very least, the worst part will be over before you know it. Scheduling out a project in this manner is a big stress reducer and can help you manage your work week more effectively. The way to better manage your time is to track it for one week to write down what you typically spend it on. Create separate columns on a page to track the time in each category. Do this for a minimum of a week, so you get an average for a typical day and week. You may find you need to make a few adjustments the first month you are implementing this system to get a sense of time frames for studying, travel time and unexpected interruptions. After that, you should have the hang of it. Why will I talk about the procrastination today? Shall we look at the table, I call it “life calendar”, supposed one person c ould live 90 years, one box for every month of 90-year life, there are not that many boxes, Right? Especially we have already used a lot of those. For me, I’m 24 years old, the boxes I used are marked in red, and when we get 60 years old, maybe there is little thing that we can do, so I marked those boxes in yellow. So, let’s look at the calendar again, the green boxes remained are what we can use, not that many, So I thin k it is time that we should think about what we are really procrastinating on? What we are losing?

拖延症相关演讲稿英文作文英文:Have you ever found yourself putting off important tasks, only to rush to complete them at the last minute? Do you struggle with procrastination, constantly delaying things that you know you should be doing? If so, you're not alone. Procrastination is a common problem that many people struggle with, myself included.I used to be a chronic procrastinator. I would always put off studying for exams, leaving everything until the night before. I would delay starting important projects at work, causing unnecessary stress and anxiety. I even procrastinated on simple tasks like doing the laundry or paying bills, which only led to more frustration in the long run.Procrastination is a habit that can be difficult to break. It's often rooted in fear – fear of failure, fearof not meeting expectations, or even fear of success. We tell ourselves that we work better under pressure, but in reality, procrastination only leads to poor quality work and added stress. It wasn't until I realized the negative impact that procrastination was having on my life that I decided to make a change. I started by breaking tasks down into smaller, more manageable steps, and setting specific deadlines for each one. This helped me to stay focused and motivated, and I found that I was able to complete tasks more efficiently and with better results.I also learned to recognize when I was making excuses to avoid a task, and to challenge those excuses with positive self-talk. Instead of saying "I'll do it later," I started telling myself "I'll feel so much better once it's done." This shift in mindset helped me to overcome my procrastination tendencies and become more proactive in tackling my responsibilities.中文:你有没有发现自己总是推迟重要任务,最后才匆忙完成?你是否与拖延症抗争,不断延迟你知道应该做的事情?如果是的话,你并不孤单。

拖延症英文演讲稿
拖延症英文演讲稿Ladies and Gentlemen,Today, I stand before you to discuss a phenomenon that has silently crept into our lives, often unnoticed but with a profound impact on our productivity and well-being. It'scalled procrastination, or as some might jokingly refer to it, the "art of doing nothing."The term "procrastination" is derived from the Latin word "procrastinatus," which means "to put off to tomorrow." It'sa behavior that has been around for as long as humans havehad tasks to complete. However, in our modern society, withthe constant bombardment of distractions and the ease of access to them, procrastination has become an epidemic.Let's delve into the psychology behind this behavior. Procrastination is often a coping mechanism for anxiety. When faced with a task that seems daunting or requires asignificant amount of effort, the natural instinct is todelay it. This delay is often accompanied by a sense ofrelief, which is short-lived as the anxiety of the unfinished task returns, often compounded by guilt. Now, why is this such a pressing issue? It's because procrastination doesn't just affect one's personal life; it can have far-reaching implications in professional settingsas well. Deadlines are missed, projects are delayed, and thequality of work can suffer. Moreover, the stress associated with last-minute rushes can lead to burnout, affecting notjust the individual but the entire team. But what can be done to combat this? The first step is awareness. Recognizing that you are procrastinating is thefirst step towards change. Next, breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable parts can make the task seem less overwhelming. Setting realistic deadlines and rewardingoneself upon completion can also serve as effective motivators.Furthermore, understanding the difference between urgent and important tasks is crucial. Often, we get caught up in the urgent, which can lead to neglecting the truly importanttasks that require our attention. Prioritization is key.Another approach is to create a conducive environment for work. This could mean setting aside a specific place for work, minimizing distractions, and establishing a routine. The structure provided by a routine can be a powerful toolagainst procrastination. In conclusion, while procrastination is a common challenge,it is not an insurmountable one. With the right strategiesand a bit of discipline, we can overcome this obstacle and become more productive individuals. Remember, the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Let's take that first bite and tackle procrastination head-on.Thank you for your attention.。

英语课前演讲稿procrastination拖延症(大全5篇)第一篇:英语课前演讲稿procrastination拖延症Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.Today, our topic is about procrastination.Well, what is procrastination? Generally speaking, procrastination is an act of putting of an essential task until a later time. And there is no doubt that procrastination will do harm to our study and health.Let’s see some behavior of a procrastinator. When the deadline is set, he will think there is one week until the assignment is due.So he has the false sense of security.I have plenty of time.As time passes, he will think that I will get started soon because I can only work under great pressure. And when the last day is coming, he hurries to do his work panickily and under great pressure. And the case of us is often that.Today I must write my paper, so I haven’t to be online.Well, I need to search some statistics, so I must use computer. And the tragedy happens on us.An evening is killed by our entertainment. And let’s see its four reasons.First, perfectionism.Everything you want to do should be done at a high level. You want to succeed by one time and don’t want to repeat again.Second, resistance and hostility. The teacher’s attitude towards me is so bad, so I don’t want to do his homework.Third, be easy to be decadence. The task is so difficult. Why other people needn’t do but I have to do? I can’t tolerate doing that.Maybe I will do it st, self-depreciation.My ability becomes lower and lower gradually as I usually can’t finish my tasks well.Maybe everybody have procrastination to some degree. But how do to deal with it? Let’s see some measures.First, realize it's no need to procrastinate Second, write down the reason why you will procrastinatepiece by piece Third, overcomeAnd then, take action right now.If you want to finish your homework, if you want to get a high score for TEM4, if you want to do reading, if you want to keep fit, or if you want to show your love to your relatives or a special person.Don’t procrastinate any more. What make you the most happy is be able to do what you want to do.That’s all.Thank you.第二篇:拖延症英语演讲ProcrastinationFpg Before I start my topic,I want to show you a picture, which show us a common phenomenon,or a problem that everyone sit here may have.Look, the picture is here, about efficiency and time. This is the work efficiency and this is time line. This point stand for the day you got your assignment or work. The truth is,only at the day before DDL,can you achieve the highest efficiency. And we always call that “procrastination”,which means “willingly” deferring something even though you expect the delay to make you worse. In my word,it is although you have known you have do it now,but still, youdon’t move on until last time. So,as you see, today my topic is How to solve “procrastination”,I divide my topic into 3 parts.First, disadvantages of procrastination.Second, reasons of st,methods to solve this problem. In this part I will bring you an interesting practice about time control andsome suggestions, believe me,it is very practical. Now,the disadvantagesof procrastination.First, you cannot achieve your goal. For example: Girls always say:“ oh I’m on diet,I want to put out my weight” But one problem is that few people can do this fitness plan, for FpgFpg many reasons:today I feel depressed, only eating can cure me/I’m really tired now,so just do some exercisetomorrow~ you always have various excuses to take action, and then, your goals become dreams, you can never achieve it.Second, procrastination makes you in hurry,so you cannot do things better. For example, you have appearance you should have had, butthisisthereality. It cut down the quality of work. You should have done you better, don’t you?Last, procrastination does harm to mental health. Some people don’t start to so many bad influences on people’s life, so it is very essential for those delayers to try to get rid of this bad habit. So let us find the reasons of procrastination: 1lack of managing time Time treats everyone fairly that we all have 24 hours per day. Some of us are capable to make good use of time while some find it hard to do so.The vital reason of procrastination is you cannot control your time correctly, and you put too much time on non-essentialthings.2 find too many excuses. When you face a problem or some work, you always can find lots of excusestoavoidthem. You chat with your friends through QQ, surf the Internet and go shopping on taobao as if they are essential, but they are not,you know it,you just find some excuse to delay your work.FpgFpg After this analysis,I have some ideas that maybe can help you.First is a method of time-control.I kept on trying this method for a long time.It really benefits me and helps me reduce the symptoms of procrastination. So listening carefully~: List 3 most important things you want to do or you have to do when you wake up in the morning, then record them on paper or on your webpage. There should be attention:1,Choose only 3 things which you must finish today.2,you can also plan to do other things too,but you can forget them today if you want.3,the thing can be formal, such as I should finish my paper today. The things can be small and secret:I will sent a message to my dream lover. This method can make you know what you should do today clearly and exactly. It makes you realize where should your time spend on,why you should do them without hesitation, and then, you cannot find any other reason to delay them.FpgFpg And my second suggestion, about people find too many excuses when procrastination. It is quite simple:when you have known what you should do,just do it,and when you prepare to work,Don’t touch your mobile phone!Stay away from Internet!Never open We chat or micro blog!find all your excuses you have talked, and next time, they cannot be reasonsto procrastination.Procrastination has bad impacts on our lives and we should eliminate it as much as possible.I hope my advicewill help you!FpgFpg Outline Disadvantages of procrastination.λ You cannot achieve your goal 1.Girls on diet λ Procrastination makes you in hurry,so you cannot do things better.1.Makeup λProcrastination does harm to mental 拖延症演讲稿三分钟英文
Ladies and gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. Today, I stand before you to address a common yet often misunderstood challenge that plagues many of us –procrastination. It is a habit that can hinder our progress, waste our time, and ultimately leave us feeling overwhelmed and unfulfilled. So,let us embark on a journey to conquer procrastination and unlock ourtrue potential.Firstly, let's define procrastination. It is the act of delaying or postponing tasks to a later time, often resulting in unnecessary stress and a feeling of being overwhelmed. While it may seem like a minor issue, the consequences of procrastination can be severe. It can lead to missed deadlines, lower quality work, and even a decline in mental and physical health. Now, why do we procrastinate? There are several reasons behind this common behavior. One of the primary reasons is fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, or fear of not being good enough can paralyze us and prevent us from taking action. Additionally, perfectionism can be a significant factor. We may put off tasks because we believe that ourwork will never be good enough, leading to an endless cycle of doubt and inaction. But fear not, for there is a way to overcome this challenge. Here are some strategies that can help us conquer procrastination and achieve our goals:1. Set Clear Goals: Begin by setting clear, achievable goals. Break down your tasks into smaller, manageable steps, and create a realistic timeline. This will help you stay focused and motivated.2. Create a To-Do List: Start each day by making a to-do list.Prioritize your tasks based on their importance and urgency. This will give you a clear direction and help you stay organized.3. Eliminate Distractions: Identify the factors that distract you and take steps to eliminate them. This might involve turning off your phone, using website blockers, or finding a quiet place to work.4. Use the Pomodoro Technique: This technique involves working for 25 minutes and then taking a 5-minute break. This helps maintain your focus and prevent burnout.5. Accountability: Share your goals with a friend, family member, or colleague. Having someone to hold you accountable can be a powerful motivator.6. Reward Yourself: Set up a reward system for completing tasks. This can be as simple as a coffee break, a walk, or a new book. Rewards can help keep you motivated and make the process more enjoyable.7. Mindfulness and Meditation: Practice mindfulness and meditation to stay grounded and focused. These techniques can help reduce stress and improve your overall mental well-being.8. Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself. Understand that everyone procrastinates at times, and it's okay to make mistakes. Learn from them and move forward. Now, let's consider a few real-life examples of individuals who overcame procrastination and achieved remarkable success. Take, for instance, Leonardo da Vinci. He was known for his procrastination, yet he managed to create some of the most iconic works of art in history. How? By setting daily goals and constantly revising his approach. Another example is J.K. Rowling, who was struggling with writer's block when writing the first Harry Potter book. She overcame her procrastination by setting aside time each day to write, regardless of how little she felt like it.In conclusion, procrastination is a common challenge, but it is not insurmountable. By adopting the strategies I've outlined today, we can conquer this habit and pave the way for a more productive, fulfilling life.Remember, success is not measured by the absence of procrastination but by the presence of action. Take charge of your time, commit to your goals, and let go of the fear that holds you back. With determination and perseverance, you can overcome procrastination and achieve greatness.Thank you for your attention, and here's to a future where we embrace our potential, conquer procrastination, and create a life that we are truly proud of.。

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that affects many of us, and that is the issue of procrastination, or what is commonly known as "TED拖延症".Procrastination is something that we have all experienced at some point in our lives. It is the act of delaying or postponing tasks, often to the point of creating unnecessary stress and anxiety. We all know the feeling of having a deadline looming over us, yet we still find ourselves unable to start or complete the task at hand.So why do we procrastinate? There are many reasons, but one of the main causes is fear. Fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, fear of the unknown. We put off our tasks because we are afraid of the outcome, and this fear paralyzes us, preventing us from taking action.Another reason for procrastination is a lack of motivation. When we don't feel inspired or passionate about a task, it's easy to put it off in favor of more enjoyable activities. We convince ourselves that we will do it later, when we are in the right mood or mindset, but often that time never comes.Procrastination also stems from a lack of self-discipline. We give in to our impulses and desires, choosing instant gratification over long-term goals. We tell ourselves that we will start tomorrow, or next week, but in reality, we are only delaying our progress and success. But the consequences of procrastination can be severe. It can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even depression. It can also result in poor performance, missed opportunities, and damaged relationships. Procrastination not only affects our personal lives, but it can also have a negative impact on our professional and academic endeavors. So how can we overcome procrastination? The first step is to acknowledge and understand the reasons behind our procrastination. By identifying our fears, lack of motivation, and self-discipline, we can begin to address these issues and make positive changes in our behavior. We can also break down our tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. By setting realistic goals and deadlines, we can create a sense of accomplishment and momentum, which can help us overcome our tendency to procrastinate.Furthermore, finding ways to stay motivated and inspired is crucial. Whether it's seeking support from friends and family, finding a mentor, or simply reminding ourselves of our long-term goals, staying motivated can help us push through our procrastination and stay on track. In conclusion, procrastination is a common problem that affects many of us, but it is not insurmountable. By understanding the root causes of our procrastination and taking proactive steps to address them, we can overcome our tendency to delay and achieve our goals. Let's not let procrastination hold us back any longer. Thank you.。

It's okay to feel overwhelmed or unmotivated sometimes. The key is not to beat ourselves up for it but to recognize it as a sign that we need to adjust our approach. Instead of seeing procrastination as a character flaw, let's view it as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement.Next, we need to develop strategies to manage our tendencies to procrastinate. One effective method is to break down our tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. By doing this, we can avoid feeling overwhelmed and make progress on our projects step by step. Another strategy is to set clear deadlines for ourselves, either by setting a specific date or using productivity tools that help us stay on track. Additionally, it can be helpful to create a reward system for ourselves, where we reward ourselves with a small treat or a short break after completing a task.Another important aspect of overcoming procrastination is developing a growth mindset. Instead of viewing challenges as obstacles, let's see them as opportunities to learn and grow. By embracing a growth mindset, we can develop resilience and adaptability, which are crucial in the face of setbacks and failures. Finally, let's not forget the importance of self-care. Taking care of our physical and mental health is essential for maintaining productivity andavoiding the pitfalls of procrastination. This means getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and taking breaks when we need them. By taking care of ourselves, we can ensure that we have the energy and mental clarity to tackle our tasks effectively. In conclusion, procrastination is a common challenge that we all face, but it doesn't have to define us. By developing strategies to manage our tendencies to procrastinate, embracing a growth mindset, and taking care of ourselves, we can overcome procrastination and unlock our full potential. So let's step into the future, unencumbered by the chains of procrastination, and embrace the power of our potential. Thank you for listening.。
拖延症英语演讲Procrastination
Before I start my topic,I want to show you a picture, which show us a common phenomenon,or a problem that everyone sit here may have. Look, the picture is here, about efficiency and time. This is the work efficiency and this is time line. This point stand for the day you got your assignment or work. The truth is,only at the day before DDL,can you achieve the highest efficiency. And we always call that “procrastination”,which means “willingly” deferring something even though you expect the delay to make you worse. In my word,it is although you have known you have do it now,but still, you don’t move on until last time. So,as you see, today my topic is How to solve “procrastination”,I divide my topic into 3 parts. First, disadvantages of procrastination. Second, reasons of procrastination. Last, methods to solve this problem. In this part I will bring you an interesting practice about time control and some suggestions, believe me,it is very practical. Now ,the disadvantages of procrastination.First, you cannot achieve your goal . For example:Girls always say:“ oh I’m on diet,I want to put out my weight” But one problem is that few people can do this fitness plan, formany reasons:today I feel depressed, only eating can cure me/I’m really tired now,so just do some exercise tomorrow~ you always have various excuses to take action, and then, your goals become dreams, you can never achieve it. Second, procrastination makes you in hurry,so you cannot do things better. For example, you have a date in the evening, but you browsed micro blog again and again, chatted with your friends, thinking about you still have time to prepare. But at last, you have to make up in a short time. So this is the appearance you should have had,but this is the reality. It cut down the quality of work. You should have done you better, don’t you?Last, procrastination does harm to mental health. Some people don’t start to deal with their work until the last minute,so once they start, they usually become extremely nervous ,because so much work put a lot ofpressure on them. Sometimes, when people faced with much work to be done, they may become anxious and upset. There is no doubt that these negative emotion and great pressure can make people feel depressed, and less confident. In a nutshell, putting things off has so many bad influences on people’s life, so it is very essential for those delayers to t ry to get rid of this bad habit. So let us find the reasons of procrastination:1lack of managing timeTime treats everyone fairly that we all have 24 hours per da y. Some of us are capable to make good use of time while s ome find it hard to do so. The vital reason of procrastination is you cannot control your time correctly, and you put too much time on non-essential things.2 find too many excuses. When you face a problem or some work, you always can find lots of excuses to avoid them. You chat with your friends through QQ, surf the Internet and go shopping on taobao as if they are essential, but they are not,you know it,you just find some excuse to delay your work. After this analysis,I have some ideas that maybe can help you.First is a method of time-control. I kept on trying this method for a long time. It really benefits me and helps me reduce the symptoms of procrastination. So listening carefully~:List 3 most important things you want to do or you have to do when you wake up in the morning, then record them on paper or on your webpage. It makes you realize where should your time spend on,why you should do them without hesitation, and then, you cannot find any other reason to delay them. And my second suggestion, about people find too many excuses when procrastination. It is quite simple:when you have known what you should do,just do it,and when you prepare to work,Don’t touch your mobile phone!Stay away from Internet!Never open We chat or micro blog!find all your excuses you have talked, and next time, they cannot be reasons to procrastination.Procrastination has bad impacts on our lives and we should eliminate it as much as possible. I hope my advice will help you!OutlineDisadvantages of procrastination.●You cannot achieve your goal1.Girls on diet●Procrastination makes you in hurry,so you cannot dothings better.1.Makeup●Procrastination does harm to mental health.Reasons of procrastination.●Lack of managing time●Find too many excuses. Methods to solve this problem.●Time control method●Excuse control method。

讲拖延症的英语作文Title: The Complexities of Procrastination.Procrastination, a seemingly innocuous habit, has been a source of significant distress and productivity loss for individuals across the globe. Defined as the tendency to delay or postpone tasks despite expecting negative consequences, procrastination is a multifaceted phenomenon that often goes unrecognized and untreated. This essay aims to delve into the intricacies of procrastination, exploring its causes, consequences, and potential solutions. The Roots of Procrastination. The origins of procrastination are diverse and complex, often stemming from a combination of psychological, biological, and environmental factors. One psychological theory posits that procrastination is a coping mechanism, a way for individuals to avoid feelings of anxiety, fear of failure, or perfectionistic tendencies. When faced withchallenging tasks, people may procrastinate as a means to alleviate the emotional burden they anticipate from those tasks. Moreover, procrastination can be influenced by biological factors such as neurotransmitters and hormones. For instance, low levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with motivation and reward, have been linked to increased procrastination. Additionally, research suggests that certain personality traits, such as impulsivity and low self-control, may contribute to procrast.。

00:11So in college, I was a government major(主修行政管理专业的学生), which means I had to write a lot of papers. Now, when a normal student writes a paper, they might spread the work out a little(一点点地展开工作) like this. So, you know --00:25you get started(=start) maybe a little slowly, but you get enough done in the first week that, with some heavier(=busier) days later on(infml后来), everything gets done, things stay civil/ˈsɪvl/(文明的).00:33(Laughter/ˈlɑ:ftə(r)/笑声)00:34And I would want to do that like that. That would be the plan. I would have it all ready to go, but then, actually, the paper would come along(出现), and then I would kind of(用于表示不确定,“有点,可以这么说”) do this.00:45(Laughter)00:47And that would happen every single paper.00:50But then came my 90-page senior thesis(/ˈθi:sɪs/毕业论文), a paper you're supposed to spend a year on. And I knew for a paper like that, my normal work flow(工作流程) was not an option(/ˈɒpʃn/选择). It was way(used with prep or adv.非常) too big a project. So I planned things out(精心安排,筹划), and I decided I kind of had to go something like this. This is how the year would go. So I'd start off(开始) light(ad.轻松地), and I'd bump it up(to increase sth.) in the middle months, and then at the end, I would kick it up into high gear(/gɪə(r)/全力冲刺) just like a little staircase. How hard could it be to walk up the stairs? No big deal(没什么大不了的), right?01:22But then, the funniest thing happened. Those first few months? They came and went, and I couldn't quite(=really) do stuff /stʌf/. So we had an awesome(/ˈɔːsəm/very good) new revised(/rɪˈvaɪz/改变,调整) plan.01:30(Laughter)01:31And then --01:32(Laughter)01:34But then those middle months actually went by, and I didn't really write words, and so we were here. And then two months turned into one month, which turned into two weeks. And one day I woke up with three days until(在…之前) the deadline, still not having written a word, and so I did the only thing I could: I wrote 90 pages over 72 hours, pulling not one but two all-nighters -- humans are not supposed to pull two all-nighters(开两晚夜车) – sprinted(/sprɪnt/飞跑,冲刺)across campus(/ˈkæmpəs/校园), dove(dive,扑向,冲向) in slow motion(/ˈməʊʃn/移动,运动), and got it in(--manage to do sth.) just at the deadline.02:10I thought that was the end of everything. But a week later I get a call, and it's the school. And they say, "Is this Tim Urban?" And I say, "Yeah." And they say, "We need to talk about your thesis(/ˈθi:sɪs/毕业论文)." And I say, "OK." And they say, "It's the best one we've ever seen." 02:28(Laughter)02:31(Applause/əˈplɔ:z/掌声)02:35That did not happen.02:37(Laughter)02:39It was a very, very bad thesis.02:42(Laughter)02:44I just wanted to enjoy that one moment when all of you thought, "This guy is amazing!"02:50(Laughter)02:51No, no, it was very, very bad. Anyway(不管怎么说), today I'm a writer-blogger guy. I writethe blog Wait But Why. And a couple of years ago, I decided to write about procrastination (/prəʊˌkræstɪ'neɪʃn/拖延症). My behavior has always perplexed(/pəˈpleks/使迷惑) the non-procrastinators(/proʊˈkræs.tə.neɪ.t̬ɚ/拖延者) around me, and I wanted to explain to the non-procrastinators of the world what goes on in the heads of procrastinators, and why we are the way we are. Now, I had a hypothesis(/haɪˈpɒθəsɪs/假设) that the brains of procrastinators were actually different than the brains of other people. And to test this, I found an MRI(核磁共振成像) lab that actually let me scan(/skæn/扫描) both my brain and the brain of a proven non-procrastinator, so I could compare them. I actually brought them here to show you today. I want you to take a look carefully to see if you can notice a difference. I know that if you're not a trained brain expert, it's not that(=so) obvious(/ˈɒbviəs /明显的), but just take a look, OK? So here's the brain of a non-procrastinator.03:42(Laughter)03:45Now ... here's my brain.03:49(Laughter)03:54There is a difference. Both brains have a Rational(/ˈræʃnəl/理智的) Decision-Maker in them, but the procrastinator's brain also has an Instant Gratification(/ˌgrætɪfɪˈkeɪʃn/满足) Monkey. Now, what does this mean for the procrastinator? Well, it means everything's fine until this happens.04:08[This is a perfect time to get some work done.] [Nope!]04:11So the Rational Decision-Maker will make the rational decision to do something productive(/prəˈdʌktɪv /富有成效的), but the Monkey doesn't like that plan, so he actually takes the wheel(/wi:l/方向盘), and he says, "Actually, let's read the entire(/ɪnˈtaɪə(r)/整个,全部) Wikipedia(维基百科) page of the Nancy Kerrigan/ Tonya Harding scandal(/ˈs kændl/丑闻), because I just remembered that that happened.04:27(Laughter)04:28Then --04:29(Laughter)04:30Then we're going to go over to the fridge(/frɪdʒ/冰箱), to see if there's anything new in there since 10 minutes ago. After that, we're going to go on a YouTube spiral(/ˈspaɪrəl /) that starts with videos of Richard Feynman talking about magnets(/ˈmægnət/磁铁) and ends much, much later with us watching interviews with Justin Bieber's mom.04:46(Laughter)04:48"All of that's going to take a while, so we're not going to really have room on the schedule for any work today. Sorry!"04:54(Sigh/saɪ/叹气)04:57Now, what is going on here? The Instant Gratification Monkey does not seem like a guy you want behind the wheel. He lives entirely(=completely) in the present moment. He has no memory of the past, no knowledge of the future, and he only cares about two things: easy and fun.05:15Now, in the animal world, that works fine. If you're a dog and you spend your whole life doing nothing other than(除了) easy and fun things, you're a huge success!05:24 (Laughter)05:26And to the Monkey, humans are just another animal species(/ˈspi:ʃi:z/物种). You have to keep well-slept, well-fed and propagating(/ˈprɒpəgeɪt/繁衍) into the next generation, which in tribal(/ˈtraɪbl/部落的) times(时代) might have worked OK. But, if you haven't noticed, now we're not in tribal times. We're in an advanced civilization(/ˌsɪvəlaɪˈzeɪʃn/文明), and the Monkey does not know what that is. Which is why we have another guy in our brain, the Rational Decision-Maker, who gives us the ability to do things no other animal can do. We can visualize(/ˈvɪʒuəlaɪz/设想) the future. We can see the big picture. We can make long-term plans. And he wants to take all of that into account/əˈkaʊnt/(把…考虑在内). And he wants to just have us do whatever makes sense(有意义,合理) to be doing right now. Now, sometimes it makes sense to be doing things that are easy and fun, like when you're having dinner or going to bed or enjoying well-earned leisure(/ˈleʒə(r)/闲暇) time. That's why there's anoverlap(/ˌəʊvəˈlæp/重叠). Sometimes they agree(一致). But other times, it makes much more sense to be doing things that are harder and less pleasant, for the sake of(为了,因为) the big picture. And that's when we have a conflict. And for the procrastinator, that conflict tends to end a certain way every time, leaving him spending a lot of time in this orange zone(/zəʊn/区域), an easy and fun place that's entirely out of the Makes Sense circle. I call it the Dark Playground.06:41 (Laughter)06:42Now, the Dark Playground is a place that all of you procrastinators out there know very well. It's where 休闲活动) happen at times(=sometimes) when leisure activities are not supposed to be happening. The fun you have in the Dark Playground isn't actually fun, because it's completely unearned(不应得的), and the air is filled with guilt, dread(/dred/忧虑,恐惧), anxiety(/æŋˈzaɪəti/焦虑), self-hatred(/ˈheɪtrɪd/自我憎恨) -- all of those good procrastinator feelings. And the question is, in this situation, with the Monkey behind the wheel, how does the procrastinator ever get himself over here to this blue zone, a less pleasant place, but where really important things happen?07:16Well, turns out the procrastinator has 守护天使), someone who's always looking down on(俯瞰) him and watching over(照看) him in his darkest moments -- someone called the Panic(/ˈpænɪk/恐慌) Monster(怪物).07:27 (Laughter)07:33Now, the Panic Monster is dormant(/ˈdɔ:mənt/蛰伏的) most of the time, but he suddenly wakes up anytime a deadline gets too close or there's danger of public embarrassment(/ɪmˈbærəsmənt/难堪), a career disaster or some other scary(/ˈskeər i/使人恐慌的) consequence(/ˈkɒnsɪkwəns/结果).非常害怕). Now, he became very relevant(/ˈreləvənt/密切相关的) in my life pretty(=quite) recently, because the people of TED reached out to me(=contact联系到我) about six months ago and invited me to do a TED Talk.08:00 (Laughter)08:06Now, of course, I said yes. It's always been a dream of mine to have done a TED Talk in the past.08:11 (Laughter)08:15(Applause) But in the middle of all this excitement, the Rational Decision-Maker seemed to have something else on his mind. He was saying, "Are we clear on what we just accepted? Do we get what's going to be now happening one day in the future? We need to sit down and work on this right now." And the Monkey said, "Totally agree, but let's just open Google Earth andzoom in(拉近镜头up(向上) for two and a half hours till we get to the top of the country, so we can get a better feel(总体印象) for India."08:48 (Laughter)08:54 So that's what we did that day.08:55 (Laughter)08:59As six months turned into four and then two and then one, the people of TED decided to release(/rɪˈli:s/公布) the speakers. And I opened up the website, and there was my face staring right back at me. And guess who woke up?09:12 (Laughter)09:16So the Panic Monster starts losing his mind(发疯,抓狂), and a few seconds later, the whole system's in mayhem(/ˈmeɪhem/混乱).09:21 (Laughter)09:26And the Monkey -- remember, he's terrified of the Panic Monster – boom(吼叫), he's up the tree! And finally, finally, the Rational Decision-Maker can take the wheel and I can start working on the talk.09:36Now, the Panic Monster explains all kinds of pretty insane(/ɪnˈseɪn/疯狂的,精神失常的) procrastinator behavior, like how someone like me could spend two weeks unable to start theopening sentence of a paper, and then miraculously(/mɪ'rækjələslɪ/奇迹般地) find the职业操守) to stay up all night and write eight pages. And this entire situation, with the three characters -- this is the procrastinator's system. It's not pretty, but in the end, it works. This is what I decided to write about on the blog a couple of years ago. 10:08When I did, I was amazed by the response. Literally(/ˈlɪtərəli/毫不夸张地) thousands of emails came in, from all different kinds of people from all over the world, doing all different kinds of things. These are people who were nurses, bankers, painters, engineers and lots and lots of PhD students.10:23 (Laughter)10:25And they were all writing, saying the same thing: "I have this problem too." But whatstruck(strike打动,触动) me was the contrast(/ˈkɑntræst/差异,悬殊) between the lighttone(/təʊn/语气) of the post(a piece of writing that forms part of a blog) and the heaviness of these emails. These people were writing with intense(/ɪnˈtens/强烈的) frustration(/frʌˈstreɪʃn/挫败) about what procrastination had done to their lives, about what this Monkey had done to them. And I thought about this, and I said, well, if the procrastinator's system works, then what's going on? Why are all of these people in such a dark place?10:54Well, it turns out that there's two kinds of procrastination. Everything I've talked about today, the examples I've given, they all have deadlines. And when there's deadlines, the effects of procrastination are contained(/kənˈteɪn/控制) to the short term because the Panic Monster getsinvolved(介入). But there's a second kind of procrastination that happens in situations whenthere is no deadline. So if you wanted a career where you're a self-starter(主动做事的人) --something in the arts, something entrepreneurial(/ˌɒntrəprəˈnɜːriəl/创业的) -- there's no deadlines on those things at first, because nothing's happening, not until you've gone out and done the hard work to get momentum(/məˈmentəm/推动力), get things going. There's also all kinds of important things outside of your career that don't involve any deadlines, like seeing your family or exercising and taking care of your health, working on your relationship or getting out of a relationship that isn't working.11:38Now if the procrastinator's only mechanism(/ˈmekənɪzəm/行为方式) of doing these hard things is the Panic Monster, that's a problem, because in all of these non-deadline situations, the Panic Monster doesn't show up. He has nothing to wake up for, so the effects of procrastination, they're not contained; they 扩及,波及) outward(向外地) forever. And it's明显的) and much less talked about than the funnier, short-term deadline-based kind. It's usually suffered quietly and privately(/'praɪvətlɪ/私下地). And it can be the source of a huge amount of long-term unhappiness, and regrets(后悔). And I thought, that's why those people are emailing, and that's急匆匆地做,突击学习) some project. It's that long-term procrastination has made them feel like aspectator(/spekˈteɪtə(r)/旁观者), at times(=sometimes), in their own lives. The frustration(/frʌˈstreɪʃn/挫败) is not that they couldn't achieve their dreams; it's that they weren't even ableto start chasing(chase/tʃeɪs/追寻) them.12:35So I read these emails and I had a little bit of an epiphany(/ɪ'pɪfəni/顿悟,突然明白) -- that I don't think non-procrastinators exist. That's right -- I think all of you are procrastinators. Now, you might not all be a mess(/mes/一团糟的人,看上去邋遢的人), like some of us,12:52 (Laughter)12:53and some of you may have a healthy relationship with deadlines, but remember: the Monkey's sneakiest(/ˈsni:ki/偷偷摸摸地) trick(/trɪk /诡计,花招) is when the deadlines aren't there.13:02Now, I want to show you one last thing. I call this a Life Calendar. That's one box for every week of a 90-year life. That's not that(=so) many boxes, especially since we've already used a /) of(=a number of) those. So I think we need to all take a long, hard(费劲地) lookat that calendar(/ˈkælɪndə(r)/日程表). We need to think about what we're really procrastinatingon, because everyone is procrastinating on something in life. We need to stay aware of(注意到…存在)the Instant Gratification Monkey. That's a job for all of us. And because there's not that many boxes on there, it's a job that should probably start today.13:44 Well, maybe not today, but ...13:47 (Laughter)13:48 You know. Sometime soon.Where Does the Time Go---- A Great Big WorldWhere does the time go时间都去哪了I don't want this to end 我不想就这样结束Where does the time go时间都去哪了Let's hang on to the moment we're in 让我们活在当下----- to hold sth. tightlyOf all the things we will remember 那些我们会记住的事情The good the bad and all the blessings in disguise(/ dɪsˈgaɪz /n.假装)有的好,有的坏,有的是虚假的祝福Today will stick with me forever 我会永远记住今天to stay close to sb.Even if we have to say goodbye 就算我们要各奔东西Where does the time goI keep losing track/ træk / 我总是迷失方向directionWhere does the time goWe're too young to get lost looking back 我们还是太年轻,才会迷失在过去Life doesn't always give us answers 生活不会总是给出正确的答案Some dots they won't connect until the years go by多年以后,那些人才会明白那些事吧(connect dots 理清头绪,琢磨出答案)If we're not meant to be together 如果我们以后不会在一起了be meant to do sth. 注定要做某事Someday we'll know the reasons why 总有一天,我们也会明白为什么Of all the things we will remember那些我们会记住的事情The good the bad and all the blessings in disguise有的好,有的坏,有的是虚假的祝福Today will stick with me forever我会永远记住今天Even if we have to say goodbye就算我们要各奔东西Where does the time go 时间都去哪了I don't want this to end我不想这样结束Where does the time go时间都去哪了Let's hang on to the moment we're in让我们活在当下初一英语各类作文一、描写朋友、自己或家人的喜好1、 Dear friend,My name is Sally. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Today, our topic is about procrastination.
Well, what is procrastination? Generally speaking, procrastination is an act of putting of an essential task until a later time. And there is no doubt that procrastination will do harm to our study and health.
Let’s see some behavior of a procrastinator. When the deadline is set, he will think there is one week until the assignment is due. So he has the false sense of security. I have plenty of time. As time passes, he will think that I will get started soon because I can only work under great pressure. And when the last day is coming, he hurries to do his work panickily and under great pressure.
And the case of us is often that. Today I must write my paper, so I haven’t to be online. Well, I need to search some statistics, so I must use computer. And the tragedy happens on us. An evening is killed by our entertainment.
And let’s see its four reasons. First, perfectionism. Everything you want to do should be done at a high level. You want to succeed by one time and don’t want to repeat again. Second, resistance and hostility. The teacher’s attitude towards me is so bad, so I don’t want to do his homework. Third, be easy to be decadence. The task is so difficult. Why other people needn’t do but I have to do? I can’t tolerate doing that. Maybe I will do it tomorrow. Last, self-depreciation. My ability becomes lower and lower gradually as I usually can’t finish my tasks well. Maybe everybody have procrastination to some degree. But how do to deal with it? Let’s see some measures.
First, realize it's no need to procrastinate
Second, write down the reason why you will procrastinate piece by piece Third, overcome
And then, take action right now.
If you want to finish your homework, if you want to get a high score for TEM4, if you want to do reading, if you want to keep fit, or if you want to show your love to your relatives or a special person. Don’t procrastinate any more. What make you the most happy is be able to do what you want to do.
That’s all. Thank you.
