• Deathwatch (1972), which won an Edgar Award, has come to be considered a classic survival novel. In this story, a college student, Ben, agrees to guide a hunter but becomes the hunted when an old man is killed and Ben wants to report the death. White, a prolific and versatile author, also wrote screenplays for film and television and articles for the navy's publications and magazines.

• Robb White (1909–1990), American writer. His best- known works include young adult novels of suspense and adventure in which the action is driven by a hero. White, the son of Protestant missionaries, was born in the Philippine Islands. He earned a BS from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1931 but then resigned and worked at various civilian jobs—writer, book clerk, draftsman, construction engineer, and deckhand on a sailboat. During World War II, he served as an ensign in the navy; later, he was recalled for duty in 1947–1948, serving as a captain in aviation administration and public information.
