A: Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to our Chinese Culture Event today. We are all the Chinese students from Linnaeus University. My name is…

B: My name is ….It’s our great honor to be here to show you a totally different culture, Chinese culture. Hope every one will enjoy it.

A: Chinese New Y ear Festival is the most important traditional holiday for Chinese, just like Christmas to Swedes. But the festival is calculated by Chinese lunar calendar and has been celebrated for more than four thousand and seven hundred years.

B: Exactly. According to Chinese calendar, the date of spring festival eve changes every year. And this year was on Jan 22nd. Besides,there’s a group of twelve animals representing a circle of twelve years in order. Like Tiger, Rabbit, and this year is the Dragon Y ear.

A: Dragons are typically portrayed as long, scaled creatures with four legs as what you can see here if you look up now. There are four Dragons. And if you look around, you may see the paper cutting in the windows.

B: Paper cutting design originated in China. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, paper was invented by a Chinese, 蔡伦. Paper cutting has different meanings depending on the different pictures, but its major meaning is to bring good luck to New Y ear.A:General house-cleaning is the first step we prepared for the New Y ear. Then we go shopping; do a little decoration to our houses with Spring Festival Scrolls, Lanterns and so on.

B: We set off firecrackers or fireworks to get rid of evils of the old year and bring good luck to the New Y ear. Y oung men hold the dragon and dance through the streets.Besides, p eople attach great importance to Spring Festival Eve.

A: That’s true. In Chinese culture, Reunion is a significant element. That’s why wherever the people are, it’s time for family to go back home and have a big meal together. Dumplings are traditional food, especially for the northern China. The shape of the dumpling resembles gold ingot from ancient China. So people eat them and wish for prosperity and treasure.

B:After dinner, the whole family will sit together, chatting and watching a very popular Chinese celebration program on TV. During the festival, we visit our relatives and friends. Children are given red pockets with money inside from their parents, grandparents or other elders. Also, people prefer to wear red. The color means fire which keeps away from bad luck.

A: For women, they’re eager to wear 旗袍, Qipao is one of the most typical, traditional costume for Chinese women. It is like a wonderful flower in the Chinese colorful fashion because of its particular charm. It can display women's modesty, softness and beauty.
