I. Lead in: (1 min) free talk/describe pictures/watch videos/quiz/news
Now class begins. Good morning, boys and girls. Today, we are going to learn a new unit together.
Have a free talk with students.

III. Pre-reading: (2mins) brainstorm/predict
1)Brainstorm
Give me one minute to brainstorm with your partners in small groups. Tell me what plants can be used for.
2)Predict
With the help of the title, could you please tell me what will be talked about in the passage? Let’ answer this question group by group.
In your opinion, what may this article talk about?
Can you guess what we are going to learn today through the title?
Well, you are pretty good at predicting. Here are some good predictions. Why not read the passage by yourself to check whether this information is talked about or not? You only have 2 mins. Remember when you read the passage, you are sure to meet some new words. Don’t be eager to look them up. Try to guess their meanings according to the context or you can refer to the word bank on page 85. Understand me? Here we go!
IV. While-reading:(4 min)
1)Skimming (1 min): main idea/workout the correct order of the text
Ask students to skim the text and try to find the main idea of the passage as soon as they can. How is the passage organized? The passage is organized in the order of (time, places, events, importance)
After your reading, I will ask you some questions to check your understanding.
You will have about one min to go through the passage and find the main idea. And think about this question: how did you find that? Now, let’s read it.
When you finish, you can discuss with your neighbor: how did you find the main idea?
Is there any volunteer who can tell me the main idea of this article?
Good idea. Do you agree with him? Any disagreement? Any different opinion?
How did you find it?
You find it by reading the first sentence and the last sentence of all the paragraphs. Good answer! What do we usually call these sentences? Do you know? Yeah, topic sentences. Usually we can find the main idea by reading the topic sentences. Good job!
What do we need if we want to be excellent basketball players or to be successful in our life? Please think it over. Perhaps you don't know the answer to the question. Don't worry. I'm sure you will get it after reading the passage. Please take out your paper at page one, we know the test is made up of two parts. You will be divided to two groups. Got it? Let's begin.
Read the whole text quickly and silently. You don’t have to read it word by word at this stage. When you read, try to notice what the text is about.
