AIt is a cold, dark winter evening — the kind of night that can have runners struggling to find the encouragement to run out. But there will be none of the usual “shall-I-shan’t-I?” dialogue going on in Sarah Donaghy’s head, because tonight is Food Bank Run.Donaghy, a teacher and the welfare officer for Fareham running club, organised the first Food Bank Run in February 2018. “The idea was that, instead of our usual training run, we’d fill backpacks with food to donate to the local food bank and run there, where volunteers would be waiting to receive it,” she says. Donaghy was expecting about 20 members to take part: “I lost count by the time I got to 70.”Claire Johnson, the community team leader at the Waypoint Hub, which houses food bank, says, “It was an amazing and emotional experience to see so many runners arrive at our building, bringing much-needed supplies.” But it wasn’t just the food bank that benefited from it. “The runners loved it,” says Donaghy. “The following week after the first run, they were all asking when we could do it again.”A running equipment company, Runr, joined to help with publicity and event cooperation, creating a Food Bank Run website, complete with an interactive (交互式的) map of events. “Last year, more than 500 running groups, clubs, events and parkruns got involved, donating more than 77 tonnes of supplies to food banks in their communities,” says Craig Winter, one of the founders of Runr. The event spreads a significant factor — joining with others in physical activity that has a real purpose. It is not “I must do this long run because I’m training for a marathon” or “I must exercise because I’m trying to lose weight”, but something greater. “I truly believe that running for a cause changes your view,” Donaghy says. “Yes, you could do it by entering a marathon and raising money for a charity, but there’s something quite special about handing over food that’s going to someone in your community who really needs it.”21. What did runners do in the Food Bank Run?A. They performed their usual training.B. They prepared food for the volunteers.C. They delivered food to the local food bank.D. They collected donations during the run.22. How did Johnson feel about the first Food Bank Run?A. Appreciative.B. Puzzled.C. Worried.D. Curious.23. What can we learn about Runr?A. "We actually had common experiences﹣a similar upbringing, the same language issues. That built up my confidence. Any barriers that existed, he had already overcome them." Jose smiled. "Now it's my turn!"
As one of four children in a migrant(移民)farming family from Mexico, Jose﹣who didn't learn English until he was 12 years old﹣spent much of his childhood traveling with his family from Mexico to southern California each March, then working northward to the Stockton area by November, picking strawberries and cucumbers at farms along the route. They would then return to Mexico for Christmas and start the cycle all over again in the spring. "Some kids might think it would be fun to travel like that, " Jose laughed, "but we had to work".

I saw them play many times, bought plenty of their posters and records, and was excited when I met them after shows. But as they grew and received more attention from the industry, they started making changes to their music. The rough edges(小缺点)that made them stand out were smoothed over. There wasn’t much left that I connected with. I watched as a band I loved turned into something I could hardly recognize.I didn’t know much about the music industry at the time, but it was clear to me that they were taking a huge risk. Many artists, understandably, think they will find more commercial success by eliminating any aspect of their music or image that someone might find objectionable(令人反感的). However, what is unobjectionable is also unremarkable. My experience made me think about what makes someone fall in love with a song or a band. It’s different for everyone, I’m sure, but I think one of the key factors that make an artist connect with a fan is realness. When artists write what they think people want to hear instead of what they want to express, they are missing out on points of connection that can turn a casual(偶然的)listener into a super fan. This experience also made me think about what role I wanted to play in the music industry. I knew by then that I didn’t have the talent to be an artist myself. But I loved learning about the music industry. I loved doing research on what makes an artist successful and why. When I listened to a new artist or saw a band play, I wanted to find out what made them special, protect it, and share it with the world. I eventually figured out that managers are the ones who are in the best position to achieve that.【小题1】How did the author feel when the band he loved changed its style?【小题2】What does the underline word “eliminating” in paragraph 2 probably mean?【小题3】What does the author think helps artists win super fans?【小题4】What might the author be now?4、【来源】 2023年山东济南高三零模第4题The art you choose to display in your home tells a story. It represents who you are and what you care about most. “After all, if there’s any place in this world that you can be the main characters of your story, it is at home,” says independent curator(独立策展人)and author Kimberly Drew. When talking about how to find and choose an artwork for the home, Drew isn’t so interested in what constitutes “art”. Instead, he thinks the important question is: “What kind of stories do you want to tell for yourself in your home space?”The first thing to realize is that art is all around us in the everyday objects we keep, from ticket stubs(票根)to T-shirts. If it means something to you, it can be art. Go through that box of treasures and see what brings back beautiful memories. Then think about how you might display them.Next, let the art speak to you and your space. Social media, magazines, and television shows have endless advice on how to get a perfect home. While they’re good for inspiration, there can also be a downside: They can push us to create the “ideal” home for external approval. Recognize that your taste is unique to you and your space-no one can dictate(支配)what you’re drawn to. Remember that art in your home is about and for you. You deserve all the beauty and joy it brings.Buying art can sound intimidating(令你生畏的), but it’s like buying anything else. Think about your budget and who you want to support. See if there are auctions that are attached to social issues you care about, or the artists whose work is benefiting an organization you support. You can also ask the artists directly, find out where they are showing next, email them or follow them and interact respectfully on social media.Where you put the artwork in the home is up to you! But there are a few things you can do to keep the artwork safe. Try not to hang anything where the humidity(湿气)levels are high, like the bathroom or above the stove, as steam can damage the artwork. If you’re hanging a piece of art in a sunny room, make sure you think about how you’ll protect the piece from direct light, which can fade the work over time. And make sure the hanging device you use is graded to support the weight of the piece.【小题1】What does Drew think is vital when you choose an artwork for your home?【小题2】What can we learn from paragraph 4?【小题3】According to paragraph 5, what should you consider when purchasing an artwork?【小题4】What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?5、【来源】 2023年山东济南高三零模第5题The global sea level has risen by eight to nine inches since 1880. What’s more disturbing is that one-third of the rise in sea level happened in the last 25 years. Rising sea levels pose an existential threat for some small islands and some low-lying coasts. In a response to this threat, UN-Habitat, the Busan Metropolitan City of the Republic of Korea, and the company OCEANIX revealed the world’s first model floating city, OCEANIX Busan.OCEANIX Busan has six integrated systems focusing on energy, food, water, waste, mobility and coastal habitat regeneration to ensure the floating city reuses and wastes as little as possible. The floating city has no roadways, only “pedestrian-friendly paths” to support walking, biking, and autonomous electric vehicles, so it won’t produce any vehicle emissions. Floating and rooftop photovoltaic panels(光伏板)will generate 100% of the operational energy needed for the city. Each neighborhood will treat and replenish(重新补充)its own water, recycle resources, and have urban farm areas to grow food.OCEANIX Busan will consist of three floating neighborhoods totaling 15.5 acres. That’s about as much surface as a dozen football fields, and according to the developers, it has enough room to accommodate 12,000 people. The neighborhoods will connect to one another and the mainland via bridges, and each will serve a specific purpose. The living neighborhood will have residential buildings, shops and food sellers, and a “community backyard” where residents can gather at its center. The lodging neighborhood will be built to support visitors-it’ll have many shopping and dining options, as well as guest rooms designed tomaximize ocean views. The third neighborhood will be a co-working and research center, with a temperature-controlled atrium(中厅)at its center for hydroponic agriculture.“Today is an important milestone for all coastal cities and island nations on the frontlines of climate change. We are on track to delivering OCEANIX Busan and demonstrating that floating infrastructure can create new land for coastal cities looking for sustainable ways to expand onto the ocean, while adapting to sea-level rise,” said Philipp Hofmann, CEO of OCEANIX.【小题1】What is the purpose of designing OCEANIX Busan?【小题2】Which word best describes OCEANIX Busan’s mode of operation?【小题3】What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?【小题4】From which is the text probably taken?三、七选五6、【来源】 2023年山东济南高三零模第6题What parents should know about childhood cancer.Childhood cancer takes up less than 1% of total cases of cancer. A science magazine.BQuietly siting there reading, I found myself suddenly listening to the train guard’s announcement. Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcements, whether it’s the r e corded message or the guard’s message, few peoples listen to it, because it’soften quite dull or hard to understand. This one was different. I noticed that other passengers appeared to be listening, too. Not only that, everyone was smiling! Why was so much attention being paid to this message? As best I can recall, the guard said something along these lines, “Good Morning Ladies, Gentlemen and Children, this is the 7:35 a.m. from Penrith to Central and you’ll be pleased to know that we are right on time. And what a lovely morning it is in Sydney today. The sun is shining, birds are singing, and all’s right with the world. I trust you have a great day wherever you’re going. Thanks for catching my train this morning and I hope to see you again soon.”Quite a few people (obviously previous strangers) started talking to one another about the guard’s excellent message and how good it had made everyone feel. I started thinking about this, and then I found the young guard and said“Were you the guard on the 7:35 a.m. from Penrith?” The guard seemed a bit stunned at first, replying, “Yes, yyyyes.”“Well, I really appreciate your announcement. Thank you for your extremely good message, which gave meand the other passengers such a good start to the day. Please keep doing it.”I said. There are two messages for me in what happened that day. Firstly, when people are happy in their work it shows in what they do and say. Secondly, the story attaches much importance to the benefits that accumulate from thanking people for something they’ve done, particularly when it’s not expected. Can you imagine the conversation that guard would have when he got home?24. Why do few train travelers listen to the announcements?A. They usually feel sleepy.B. The messages are unattractive.C. The guard’s voice is not clear.D. They are absorbed in books.25. What does the underlined word “stunned”in Paragraph 3 mean?A. Patient.B. Cautious.C. Excited.D. Surprise.26. What might the guard talk about with his family when he got home?A. The beautiful weather,B. The recorded message.C. The train from Penrith.D. The unexpected appreciation.27. Which of he following can be the best title for the text?A. A Boring Train Story.B. An Intelligent GuardC. A Different Train Announcement.D. A Lovely Morning in Sydney.CIt’s 3 o’clock and you’ve been hard at work. As you sit at your desk, a strong desire for chocolate overcomes you. You try to busy yourself to make it go away. B ut it doesn’t. Here is another situation. Perhaps you are not feeling well. The only thing you want to eat is a big bowl of chicken soup, like your mom used to make when you were sick as a child. Food cravings are a strong desire for a specific type of food. And they are normal.Scientists at the website How Stuff Works. compare hunger and cravings this way. Hunger is a fairly simple connection between the stomach and the brain. They even call it simply “stomach hunger.” When our stomachs burn up all of the food we have eaten, a hormone (荷尔蒙) sends a message to one part of the brain for more food, which regulates our most basic body functions such as thirst, hunger and sleep. The brain then produces a chemical to start the appetite and you eat. Hunger is a function of survival.A craving is more complex. It activates (使活跃) brain areas related to emotion, memory and reward. These are the same areas of the brain activated during drug-craving studies. So, some scientists call food craving “mind hunger. ”People often crave foods that are high in fat and sugar. Foods that are high in fat or high in sugar produce chemicals in the brain. These chemicals give us feelings of pleasure. In a 2007 study, researchers at Cambridge University found that“dieting or restric ted eating generally increases the possibility of food craving.” So, the more you deny yourself a food that you want, the more you may crave it. However, fasting is a bit different. They found that eating no food at all for a short period of time lessened food cravings. So, the next time you crave something very specific, know that your brain may be more to blame than your stomach.28. What is the function of the first paragraph?A. To deepen the understanding of hunger.B. To lead to the topic of the whole passage.C. To report the discovery of craving study.D. To remind readers of their own special food.29. What do we learn about food craving?A. It means the stomach functions well.B. It ensures a person survives hunger.C. It shows food is linked to feelings.D. It proves the brain decides your appetite.30. What’s the likely result of dieting?A. The increase of food desire.B. The decrease of chemicals.C. The refusal of fat and sugar.D. The disappearance of appetite.31. What does the passage mainly discuss?A. The findings of food craving.B. What hunger is all about.C. The functions of brain areas.D. What dieting may bring us.DImagine a cat that does not need someone to clean up after it keeps an older person company and help them remember to take their medicine. That is the shared dream of the toy maker Hasbro and scientists at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The researchers received a $3-million-dollar award from the National Science Foundation for a special project. They want to find ways to add artificial intelligence, or A.I., to Hasbro’s “Joy for All” robotic cat.The cat has already been for sale for two years. Though priced over 1000 dollars, it sold quite well. It was meant to act as a “companion” for old er people. Now the project is aimed atdeveloping additional abilities for the cat. Researchers at Brown’s Humanity-Centered Robotics Initiative are working to decide which activities older adults may need the most. They hope to make the cat perform a small number of activities very well. Such activities includefinding lost objects and reminding the person to take medicine or visit their doctor. They also want to keep the cost down to just a few hundred dollars. It is an idea that has appealed to Jeanne Elliott. Her 93-year-old mother Mary Derr lives with her in South Kingstown. Derr has dementia (痴呆). The Joy for All cat that Elliott bought this year has become a true companion for Derr. The cat stays with Derr and keeps her calm while Eliot is at work. Elliott said a robotic cat that helps her mother to remember to take her medicine and be careful when she walks would be greater. The researchers are trying to learn how the improved cats will complete helpful activities and how they will communicate. They say that they do not want a talking cat, however. Instead they are trying to design a cat that can move its head in a special way to successfully communicate its message. In the end, they hope to create an exchange between the human and the cat in which the human feels the cat needs them. By doing so, the researchers hope they can even help prevent feelings of loneliness and sadness among elderly people.32. What’s the purpose of the project?A. To relieve the pain of the elderly.B.
