In exchange, some kids get allowances(补贴) or other rewards such as extra computer time. But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. Susie Walton, a parenting educator and family coach, believes that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn't worth doing unless you get something in__return. “Running any kind of household is a team effort, ” Susie said. “A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It's important for kids to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and how they are going to keep it looking like what everyone wants it to be. ”Other people believe that getting a cash allowance or other rewards motivates kids to do chores, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to earn money. There are also new applications that give kids points and digital gifts that can be redeemed (兑取) either online or in the real world. With the ChoreMonster app, kids earn digital points by completing chores that they can turn in for real-life rewards such as extra Xbox time or a trip to the mall. “Our goal is to encourage kids to earn rewards,” says Chris Bergman, the founder of ChoreMonster. “Kids need positive reinforcement (强化) to help motivate them. ”What do you think? We still do those things today, but these days we mostly use wind power to make electricity.Wind power is a very popular source of energy. Most people think that we should use it more and more. First of all, it's clean. Windmills don't pollute the environment at all. Second, we can use wind power forever. After all, we will always have wind. Also, wind power is cheap, and it's getting even cheaper.A lot of people don't understand wind power very well. They believe that there are problems with wind power, but many of those problems are not real. For example, some people say that windmills are dangerous for birds. They used to be true, but it isn't true anymore. Old windmills killed birds because they spun very fast. New windmills spin slowly, and they aren't dangerous for birds. However, there are real problems with windmills. One problem is that many people think windmills are very ugly. This is a problem for people, because windmills are often in very pretty areas. Also, wind doesn't blow all the time, so we can't use wind power all the time. Finally, windmills are noisy.Wind power is becoming more and more common. Right now, more than 80 countries use wind power. About 2.5 percent of the world's power comes from the wind. For some countries, that number is a lot higher. Wind power gives Denmark more than 25 percent of its electricity.()6.Why DON'T new windmills kill birds? Because.A. birds don't fly near themB. they spin slowlyC. they are shorter than old windmillsD. new windmills don't spin()7.When did people start using wind power?A. About 25 years ago.B. About 80 years ago.C. About 500 years ago.D. Over 1,000 years ago.()8.,so we CAN'T use wind power all the time.A. Windmills break all the timeB. We can't use windmills at nightC. Windmills are too expensive to use all the timeD. Wind doesn't blow all the time()9.What does the article say about wind power?A. Most people don't like it.B. It's getting cheaper.C. Denmark doesn't use it.D. It's getting more expensive.()10.What is the best title for the passage?A. Expensive WindmillsB. Cheap and Clean EnergyC. Popular and Clean Wind PowerD. AGetting electricity has always been a problem for the 173 people living in Nuevo Saposoa, a small village in Peru, South America. However, things went from bad to worse in March 2015 after heavy rain damaged the only power cables in the area. The villagers were forced to use oil lamps, which are not only expensive but also dangerous because of the harmful gases they produce.Luckily, according to the researchers at the University of Technology (UT) in Lima, Peru heard about their problem and found a wonderful solution. They made a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of which can be easily found in the Amazonian rainforest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy from a plant growing in a wooden box and uses it to light up an LED light bulb. While that may sound amazing and even impossible, the science behind the idea is quite simple. As plants create their food (using the sun's energy, water and chemicals from the soil), they also produce waste which they return to the soil. Tiny animals in the soil eat this waste and they produce electrons — the building blocks of electrical energy. The UT team put special sticks inside the soil to capture the energy and keep it in the lamp's batteries for later use. The researchers say a single charge can power a 50-watt LED light for two hours — enough time for local villagers to get their evening work done. The university gave ten Plant Lamps to the villagers of Nuevo Saposoa in October 2015. So far, they have been a huge success! Elmer Ramirez, the UT professor who invented the lamp, believes the Plant Lamp could help improve the lives of many people, especially small rainforest communities, 42% of whom have no electricity.()1、What are the problems of oil lamps according to Paragraph 1?A. The things it needs to make electricity are easy to find.()4、The Plant Lamp's inventor believes it could be the most helpful for ______.A. small rainforest communitiesB. carsC. poor people in citiesD. farmers()15、What is the purpose of the passage?A. To report on a new invention.B. To explain a new scientific theory.C. To describe how electricity is made.D. To discuss the problems of poor villages. B(民族风情及节日文化)We never had children of our own—just The White Prince—and I can tell you,he was enough of a family for anyone. He walked freely in the park just as we had planned he would, and ran after the deer and the rabbits whenever he felt like it: but he never did learn how to kill for himself. You can't teach old lions new tricks. He lived on deer mostly, and slept on a sofa in our living room—I wouldn't have him inside our bedroom,no matter(无论) how often Bertie asked. You know,I have to draw the line somewhere.Bertie's leg was never cured. When it was bad,he often needed a stick,or me,or the lion to lean on. It pained him a lot, especially on cold and wet days, and he never slept well. On Sundays the three of us would walk around the park together, and Bertie would sit on the top of Wood Hill with his arm around the lion's neck and I would fly kites. You know,I've always loved kites. And the lion liked to break them into pieces. The lion never showed any interest in running away, and even if he'd wanted to,the park wall was too high for an old lion to jump over. Wherever Bertie went,he wanted to go too. And if ever Bertie went out in the car, then he'd sit by me in the kitchen, and watch me with those great amber eyes, listening all the while for the sound of Bertie's car coming up the path to the front of the house. The lion was getting older. And he became weak in his legs and could see very little. He spent his last days sleeping at Bertie's feet. When he died,we buried(埋葬) him at the bottom of the hill. Bertie wanted it that way so he could always see the place from the kitchen window. I suggested Bertie plant a tree in case(以防) he forgot where the lion was. “I will, but he should get more than a tree,” Bertie said.Bertie was sad for weeks, months after the lion died. There was nothing I could do to cheer him or even comfort him. He would sit for hours in his room,or go off on long walks by himself. He seemed so shut away inside himself,so distant(遥远的). Try as I did,I could not reach him.…(Adapted from The Butterfly Lion)( )1. What did Bertie's wife mean by saying “I have to draw the line somewhere”?A. She would like the lion to sit by her.B. She didn't except Bertie to keep the lion.C. She didn't allow the lion to go into the bedroom.D. She wanted to stop the lion walking freely in the park.( )2. Which description about the lion is TRUE according to the story?A. He seldom broke kites into pieces.B. He could jump over the park wall.C. He became weak in his legs and eyes.D. He could kill deer or rabbits for himself.( )3. What can be inferred(推断) from the story?A. Bertie's leg was badly hurt by the lion.B. The lion wanted to leave Bertie's family.C. Bertie's wife would plant a tree for the lion.D. Bertie loved the lion more than his wife did.( )4. The story is mainly about ________.A. Bertie and his wife—the owners of the lionB. tricks that Bertie and his wife taught the lionC. the habits that the lion formed in Bertie's familyD. the last days the lion spent with Bertie and his wife二、任务型阅读Dear Annie,I’ve never written a letter to a newspaper before, I have just never felt the need to do such a thing. is easy to say this, but do you know what great things have come from thinking? From that time he went on thinking and thinking. And when he became a man,he improved the steam engine(蒸汽机)so much that it could easily do the work of many horses. Think,and by thinking you will learn how to think to some purpose. 2.We can't remember clearly since when we started to take our mobiles to a dinner table. We can't remember clearly since when we started to take our mobiles to a dinner table. As a result,it showed that the more photos they took,________. Spending time taking photos of food makes the food less pleasant. B.the less delicious the food seemed to them;63.D内容归纳题. Besides the scientific result, there are also some other bad influences of taking photos of food before meals. Let the food be delicious as it is and share your life with people around you.Trust me,it will be a wonderful time. Enjoy the life with people around us instead of taking photos of food. 3.Should Children Be Allowed to Get Bored?Children need time to stand and stare. They should be allowed to get bored so that they can develop their ability to be creative.Children are expected by their parents to be reading a textbook all the time. However, research shows that it may hamper the development of their imagination, while boredom can give them opportunities to develop creativity.Boredom is often linked with loneliness, but a writer named Meera Syal said boredom had helped here in developing her mind. She told researchers about her childhood.Having few things to do,Syal often talked with her neighbors. She also tried to do things like learning to bake cakes."But importantly,I thought and wrote a lot, because I was bored,"Syal said. She kept a diary, filling here time with short stories and poems she made up.Grayson Perry,an artist, grew up in a family with little money. He enjoyed himself by making up stories, drawing pictures for his stories and reading many books in the library.Bored but free,he spent hours looking out of the window, watching the changing clouds and seasons.Perry filled up his free time with what he liked. He became creative, because he could think freely.Dr.Belton is an expert on the effects of emotions on learning."Boredom could be an uncomfortable feeling,"she said."But some young people cannot deal with that boredom creatively. So sometimes they may break a classroom window,or drive a car out for a mad race."Usually, when children have nothing to do,they would turn on the TV,the computer,or the phone.Their time on these things has increased, yet they need to have time to think about their experiences through play or just watching the world around them.It is this kind of thinking that can inspire the imagination. On the other hand, the TV or phone may cut short the thinking process. That can be harmful to the development of creativity."For developing the ability to be creative,"Dr.Belton advised,"perhaps we need to stand and stare, and stay off﹣line from time to time."53.What does the word"hamper"in Paragraph2probably mean?AA.Slow down.B.Keep up with.C.Go beyond.D.Give rise to.54.The writer talks about Syal and Perry to D.A.stress the great differences between themB.introduce a popular writer and a famous artistC.suggest good ways of going through boredomD.show effects of boredom on developing creativity55.What can we learn from the passage?AA.Boredom provides children with space to think freely.B.It's much better for children to be busy than be bored.C.Boredom helps children deal with difficulties properly.D.It's boring for children to think about their experiences.【分析】应该允许孩子无聊吗? 根据research shows that it may hamper the development of their imagination, while boredom can give them opportunities to develop creativity. 并驾齐驱;C.Go beyond.超越;D.Give rise to. 根据原文"…Meera Syal said boredom had helped her in developing her mind."和"He became creative, because he could think freely." 4.I stopped to watch childhood, and we will never get another可知本文是要告诉我们妈妈要更多的关注自己的孩子,故选B.【点评】要善于抓住每段的主题句,阅读时,要有较强的针对性.

“Color, color, color!” are the words of artist Eric Carle. Eric is like
the king in the world of children's books. He has written over 70 children's books. His most famous book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is common
on children's bookshelves all over the world. What most people don't know
is that Eric also makes art for adults, which is called “ArtArt”. People didn't know about it, because he didn't show it to the public until he was 84 years old!
Like Eric's children's boo ks, his “ArtArt” is full of bright and clear color. He says that he loves color so much because he missed it during the war in Germany. Eric was born in New York in 1929, but moved to Germany with his family when he was 6. When he was 10, World War Ⅱbegan. He noticed that all the houses and buildings in his town were painted grey, brown or dark green. It was a sad time, and it seemed like there was no color anywhere.
At the end of the war, when color came back, Eric explains, “I just loved it so much. I keep saying that I wish our eyes could see more color. Color is a very
important part of my work.”
That's true. Eric paints bright colors on paper, cuts out shapes, and then glues them onto another piece of paper. This method is called collage. In fact, it is what led Eric to his “ArtArt”.
Eric's “ArtArt” includes large collages as well as paintings, photographs and even costumes. In all these works, he uses all kinds of colors—everything from purple to light green to orange. Now that's a lot of color!
6.When did Eric show “ArtArt” to the public?
A.In 1929. B.In 1993.
C.In 1997. D.In 2013.
7.Why did Eric feel sad during World War Ⅱ?
A.Because he could hardly see bright color.
B.Because he had to join the army to fight.
C.Because he couldn't draw very good paintings.
D.Because he lived a very poor life with his parents.
8.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Collage plays an important part in Eric's book “ArtArt”.
B.Children know little about The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
C.Eric has created more books for adults than for children.
D.Eric moved to Germany with his family when he was 10.
9.What's the main idea of this passage?
