中英对照课外书:跨越语言障碍,拓宽文化视野In today's interconnected world, the importance of learning a second language cannot be overstated. English,as the global lingua franca, plays a pivotal role in international communication, education, and business. However, learning a language can often be challenging, especially when it comes to understanding the nuances of vocabulary, grammar, and cultural context. This is where bilingual books, particularly those with Chinese andEnglish translations, can be invaluable resources.Bilingual books, often referred to as parallel textbooks, provide readers with the opportunity to compare and contrast two languages side by side. This not only aids in language comprehension but also enhances cultural understanding. By reading passages in both English and Chinese, readers can gain a deeper understanding of the language's structure, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions. One of the key benefits of reading bilingual books is that they help break down language barriers. For native Chinese speakers, English can often be a foreign andintimidating language. However, by reading passages in English alongside their Chinese translations, readers can gradually familiarize themselves with the language, building confidence and fluency. Similarly, for native English speakers, these books provide a window into therich and diverse culture of China, allowing them to appreciate the nuances of the Chinese language and its unique cultural heritage. Moreover, bilingual books are excellent tools for enhancing reading comprehension skills. By reading parallel texts, readers are able to compare the different ways in which the same concept or idea is expressed in twodifferent languages. This exercise helps to improve vocabulary retention, grammatical structure understanding, and overall comprehension abilities. In addition to language learning, bilingual books also promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. They provide a bridge between different cultures, allowing readers to gain insights into the values, traditions, and perspectives of other cultures. By reading about topics such as history, culture, and society through the lens ofboth English and Chinese, readers can develop a more nuanced and inclusive understanding of the world. In conclusion, bilingual books are invaluable resources for language learners and cultural explorers alike. They provide a unique platform for comparing and contrasting two languages, enhancing language comprehension and cultural understanding. By reading parallel texts in English and Chinese, readers can break down language barriers, improve reading comprehension skills, and broaden their cultural horizons. In today's interconnected world, these books are essential tools for fostering global communication and mutual understanding.**中英对照课外书:跨越语言障碍,拓宽文化视野** 在当今相互联系的世界中,学习第二语言的重要性不言而喻。

中英对照的英文书籍Bilingual Books: A Bridge Between CulturesThe world we live in is a tapestry of diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives. As we navigate this global landscape, the ability to seamlessly communicate and connect with individuals from different backgrounds becomes increasingly valuable. One remarkable tool that has the power to bridge these cultural divides is the bilingual book.Bilingual books, which present content in two languages side by side, offer a unique opportunity for readers to delve into the richness of multiple cultures. By combining the linguistic traditions of different nations, these publications create a dynamic exchange of ideas, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the nuances that shape our global community. At the heart of the bilingual book lies the transformative power of language. Each tongue carries with it a distinct history, a unique way of perceiving the world, and a rich tapestry of traditions. When these languages are brought together in a single volume, readers are invited to explore the subtle shades of meaning, the culturalreferences, and the underlying perspectives that often get lost in translation. For language learners, bilingual books serve as invaluable resources. By presenting content in both the target language and the reader's native tongue, these publications provide a scaffolding that facilitates the acquisition of new linguistic skills. The side-by-side format allows learners to draw connections, decipher unfamiliar vocabulary, and, ultimately, develop a more comprehensive understanding of the language. But the benefits of bilingual books extend far beyond language learning. These publications also serve as powerful tools for cultural exchange and cross-cultural understanding. By exposing readers to the diverse narratives, customs, and worldviews of other cultures, bilingual books encourage a deeper level of empathy and respect. In a world that is increasingly interconnected, the ability to navigate and appreciate cultural differences is paramount. Bilingual books offer a unique platform for individuals to step outside the confines of their own perspectives and immerse themselves in the lived experiences of others. Through this process of cultural immersion, readers can challenge their preconceptions, broaden their horizons, and forge meaningful connections with people from all walks of life. Moreover, bilingual books play a vital role in preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of minority communities. In many parts of the world, indigenous languages and traditions are under threat, facing the risk of extinction due to the overwhelming dominance of dominant languages and cultures. Bilingual publications serve as a powerful medium for these marginalized communities to assert their linguistic and cultural identities, ensuring that their unique voices are heard and celebrated on a global stage.Beyond their educational and cultural significance, bilingual books also hold immense value as artistic and literary works. The act of translating a text from one language to another requires a deep understanding of both linguistic and cultural nuances, demanding a remarkable level of skill and creativity from the translator. The resulting bilingual publication becomes a testament to the art of translation, showcasing the beauty and complexity of the written word.In the realm of literature, bilingual books open up a world of new perspectives and literary traditions. Readers are invited to explore the diverse narratives, poetic expressions, and storytelling techniques that flourish across different linguistic and cultural landscapes. This exposure to a broader spectrum of literary voices not only enriches the reading experience but also challenges the boundaries of what we consider "mainstream" literature. As we navigate the complexities of our globalized world, the importance of fostering cross-cultural understanding and communication cannot be overstated. Bilingual books, with their unique ability to bridge linguistic and cultural divides, have emerged as powerful catalysts for this vital process. By inviting readers to engage with diverse perspectives, preserve endangered languages, and appreciate the art of translation, these publications pave the way for a more inclusive, interconnected, and harmonious global community.。

美国青少年正在用电子烟吸大麻The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are onto the fact that young people are using e-cigarettes to vape cannabis. Now, thanks to a new study, theCDC has a better sense for just how common it is.疾病预防控制中心意识到了这一事实:青少年正在用电子烟吸大麻。

现在,一项新的研究问世,疾控中心对这一现象的普遍性有了更为清晰的认识。

The findings are from the 2016 National Youth Tobacco Survey of more than 20,000 middle school and high school students. More than 5,200 students reported having tried e-cigarettes, the study reports today in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. But the researchers were especially interested in what else kids were vaping with the device. About one out of every 11 students surveyed, or 9 percent, answered, "Yes, I have used an e-cigarette device with marijuana, THC [tetrahydrocannabinol] or hash oil, or THC wax."基于2016年对2万多名初中生和高中生展开的全国青少年烟草调查,研究员得出了这一调查结果。

《美国医学会杂志儿科学》期刊刊登了这项研究,其中5200多名学生称自己尝试过电子烟。

但研究人员对这些学生用电子烟吸其它东西一事尤为感兴趣。

在接受调查的学生中,每11位学生中就有1位(或9%)回答说,"是的,我用电子烟设备吸过大麻、四氢大麻酚或大麻油或四氢大麻醇。

"If you apply those estimates across the US, that means more than 2 million young people might have tried vaping cannabis with an e-cigarette, the study says. And the percentage increases if you just look at the students who admitted to using e-cigarettes: about one third of those high schoolers reported having used e-cigarettes to vape some form of pot. For e-cigarette users in middle school, it was about a quarter.研究表示,若将这一估算比例应用于全美,那就意味着200多万名年轻人可能都曾用电子烟吸过大麻。

如果只考虑那些承认自己抽过电子烟的学生,这一比例还会增加:约三分之一的高中生称,他们曾用电子烟吸过大麻。

对于抽电子烟的初中生而言,这一比例为四分之一。

"The use of marijuana in these products is of particular concern because cannabis use among youth can adversely affect learning and memory and may impair later academic achievement and education," Katrina Trivers, CDC epidemiologist and lead author of the study, told The Verge in an email. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine agree, warning in a report last year that getting blazed can dull memory and learning at least over the next day or so, the report says."

But there's still a lot to learn about the long-term risks - particularly of vaping cannabis products, says Gideon St. Helen, a clinical pharmacologist at the University of California, San Francisco who was not involved in the CDC survey. There are compounds in cannabis, for example, "that we have no idea what happens to them when heated in an e-cigarette," St. Helen says in an email to The Verge. There also tend to be higher levels of THC in cannabis extracts, hash oil, and waxes compared to the regular plant, he says: "For young, inexperienced users, acute cannabis intoxication is a concern."但了解其长期风险仍任重道远--尤其是吸食大麻产品的风险,加州大学旧金山分校的临床药理学家Gideon St. Helen说道,他并未参与疾控中心开展的那项研究。
