Under the economical globalization pattern, CSR is becoming more important for a company’s development, especially for multinational companies. This could be because of customer chose. Nike is a multinational company, while it has different behaviors in different places in the world. Nike using children to work in Indonesia, but offering investment to build school for children in china. (justmeans. 2010) Academics interpret the concept of CSR differently. Some typical examples are that CSR is how companies to manager themselves to product a good impact on society. (Baker, M. 2015) Furthermore, CSR has been understood as a way that a company to balance its economy, environmental and social responsibility. (Unido. 2015) As a result, companies pursue CSR because those companies believe it will help to get legitimacy for benefits and improve investor’s investment. For example, Nike faced large customer boycott, while it using irresponsible labor practices in Indonesia in 1990s. (Pedwell, J. 2014) That is not a company want to meet. On the other hand, Starbuck’s coffee growers can get extra 10% profit feedback from Starbuck. (IBID) Because people will switch brand s when they see company do not have CSR. (Fallon, N. 2015) It is clear that it is not easy to find a definition about CSR that is acceptable to everyone. In this essay, why a company should have CSR will be discussed.
A company’s CSR strategy will decide whether a company can retain employees. (Taylor,N. 2015) According to Bharat Joshi who is investment manager at A Berdeen Asset Management, charity is a good way to measure company’s CSR. (Whaley, F. 2013) For example, Google funded 15 Google Hope schools in quake-affected regions in China. That helped Google e-commerce sales increased 43% in 2008. But in U.S, Google using “hate speech” to develop a racial attack, while throw the responsibility to WND. Many people denounce Google’s behavior. (Wnd. 2014) About 20% workers left google in U.S. (theverge. 2014) That is the power of CSR. In an Echo Research, over 80% of employees would leave the company if they found the company used child labor (Pedweel, J. 2014) Moreover, according to Forbes: 32% of employees would give up the jib if company do not participate in charitable activities. (Mark, H. 2011)
Furthermore, CSR is a profit ability for company including intangible assets and fixed assets. (Mark, H. 2011) Coca Cola’s reputation to occupy 96% value in company stock in China, because they try to “performance perfect” in public.(Bake, M. 2008) For example, assistance to AIDS orphans. (finance. qq. 2008) But in India, Coca Cola’s “performance” cannot deceive the masses including them scandal, like “Coca-Cola Charged with Groundwater Depletion in India”. (About. 2005) As a result, local government revoked Coca-Colas license to operate and shut down its $25 million plant. (IBID) So, many multinational companies decided to accept CSR.
CSR is becoming the core of business operation in sustainable development for forward-thinking companies. (Taylor, N. 2015) Although CSR will make the company loss some profits now, is good for its development in the future is want to earn more money.
