In those days, there were no flight attendants to look after the passengers. Young men ,or “stewards” helped the passengers onto the airplane and carried the passengers’ luggage(行李)but they did not provide food and drinks. But then in 1930,a woman called Ellen Church invented the“stewardess”.Ellen Church was born in 1904 on a farm in Iowa. She was a different child. In 1940 there were around 1000 of them working for different airlines. The early “stewardesses” had to be under twenty-five-year-old, single and slim. When a woman joined an airline, she had to promise not to get married or have children. It was hard job and not well paid. They worked longhours and earned $1 an hour.In the 1970s, stewardesses were unhappy in their job and airlines had to make some changes. At the end of the year, all the five average students scored among the highest in the class. What made these average students change so much to become top students? The only difference was the change in their teachers’attitude(态度).Because the teachers believed that these five kids were the top students, they expected(期望) more from them. And so these five average students began to believe and expect more from themselves. So they worked harder to do as well as they could.Do you know? If you expect the best from people, they’ll usually want to give you their best.A great leader said,“Treat(对待) a person just how he appears to be on the outside, and you’ll make him even worse. But treat a person like he’s already a success, and you’ll help make him the best he can be.”Like the true story of 7-year-old Johnny, his teacher got so angry with him that one day she said,“Johnny, you’re the naug htiest(最顽皮的) boy in this class.I’m sure you’ll never change.”The next year Johnny had a new teacher. And on the first day of class, she met with Johnny after school and said,“Jo hnny,I’ve heard a lot about you! But do you know that I don’t believe a word of it.”And everyday after that, this new teacher treated Johnny as if he was one of the smartest students even when Johnny did naughty things.Later on,Johnny became a school leader.Because that’s the power of our belief(信任) and attitude toward children.根据短文内容,选择正确答案。

Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to mynearest club inSouth Londonto find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn’t interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking silly. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can’t tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. 20篇最新2013年中考英语阅读理解材料最有可能考的

20篇最新2013年中考英语阅读理解材料(最有可能考的)★★★★★(星火英语命题组出品)第一组:(4篇)AThe house in the futureWhat will the house of the future look like? Could it havegardens on its walls, or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects﹡believe that they are all possibilities. The only thing for sureis that the houses will be as green as possible. The tree houseMany architects in the world would like to build a “treehouse.” Like a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlightduring the day. The energy can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for the home. The “root” of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the soil﹡to the tem- perature at home. The Lizard houseLike a lizard﹡, changing color with the weather is the most important design of a lizard house. When it’s in the bright sun, the cover of the house will turn dark to protect it from strong heat. During dark days, it turns white and takes in as much light and heat as possible to produce energy.Meals at homeThis design is perhaps as much about the future of food production. It has gardens on the outside wall of the house. People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea on them. So every day in the morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.Learning from the pastLooking to the future isn’t the only way to be green. Sometimes, ancient techniques﹡can also help cut down energy use. For example, a chimney﹡can be a useful air conditioner because it is easier of hot air to flow out at the chimney.( ) 1. How many kinds of houses of the future are mentioned in the passage?A. Three.B. Four.C. Five.D. Six.( ) 2. ____________ is designed like an old one.A. The tree houseB. The lizard houseC. The house with foodD. The house with a chimney( ) 3. Which is TRUE according to the passage?A. The passage is about old houses.B. The surface of a green house can collect the sunlight which can be used as energy to heatwater.C. The lizard house can change color to protect itself from enemies.D. You just need to collect food you like in the house because the house can produce the food.BSince I was a foreign teacher in China, every day I taught English to my students and they taught me about China. One day the topic turned to saying “I love you”. I was shocked to learnthat not one of my students had said this to their mothers, nor had their mothers said it to them. “Does your mom love you?” “Of course,” they answered.“How do you now?” was my logical question. They responded that their moms cooked and always told them what they were doing wrong to show their caring. I was greatly surprised .So mom’s cooking and critic i zing read out as “I love you”. “Then how do you say ‘I love you’ to her?” They agreed that getting good grades, followed by god jobs would be how they showed their love.I come from a culture where most people are expressive enough, so I repeated these questions in classes over time. Gradually, I began to get different response. Some of them had exchanged those sentiments* with their moms. One of my favorite stories of change came from a girl. When she came home from university, her mother met her at the door and hugged her. This had never happened before, but her mom said, “Now that you have gone I have more time to myself. I noticed that in some places mothers and children hug each other and I decided it was a good idea and that I would begin hugging you.”In my family we all say “I love you” a lot .While it is true that we often say the words without having great depth of feelings at that moment, it is almost like a blessing* we give each other. Those three little words carry a world of meaning, even when said as a greeting, but most especially if they are the last words we say to or hear from those we love.4. The foreign teacher ________.A. likes to say “I love you” to greetB. learns Chinese in the schoolC. is expressive enoughD. knows much about China5. Chinese people prefer to show love by ________.A. saying “I love you”B. cookingC. getting good gradesD. doing something helpful6. In paragraph 4, what’s the real meaning of the mom’s hugging?A. She is meeting her daughter at the door.B. She loves her daughter and misses her.C. She is glad that she has more time to herself.D. She finds it interesting to hug her daughter.7. What’s the main idea of the passage?A. Say “I love you” more to your family.B. Say “I love you” a lot to Chinese people.C. Say “I love you” as a greeting to others.D. Say “I love you” without great depth of feelings.CLondon OlympicsThe 2012 Olympic Games will take place in London. This summer, Chinese sports fans will be able to watchthe exciting games in 3-D on CCTV. When you watch3-D movies or TV, you have to wear a special pair ofglasses. The 3-D glasses make the images from the screen look like they are there in the room with you.Three-dimensional, or 3-D, means having three dimensions*: width, height and depth. 3-D technology is based on the way the human brain and eyes work. Because the pupils of a person’s eyes are about 6.5cm apart, when we look at something, each eye sees it from a different angle*. Our eyes send the two images to our brain, and the brain puts them together. The small difference between the image from the right eye and the image from the left eye allows us to see depth. When we view media such as pictures and television in two dimensions, each eye gets the same information. That is because the image has no real depth, and there is only one way of viewing it. So the goal of 3-D technology is to get a different image into each eye of the viewer. It uses two film projectors. One projects a left eye image and the other projects a right eye image. The 3-D glasses allow us to see a different image in each eye. While watching 3-D films, we feel that we are actually in the same environment as the things w e’re watching. However, it also has its disadvantages. The 3-D glasses work by controlling the amount of light that reaches the eyes. It makes the screen look darker. What’s more, people with eye problems may get headaches if they spend too much time watching 3-D movies, because their brains need to work harder to “read” the images.8. Acoording to the passage, we can see 3-D TV with the help of ________.A. the exciting gamesB. the special glassesC. the dark screenD. the images in the room9. The second paragraph mainly tells us _____.A. how we see things in 3-DB. how 3-D films are madeC. what the human brain does for our eyesD. how different images get into the brain10. The underlined word “pupils” in the passage means “_______” in Chinese.A. 学生B. 视线C. 睫毛D. 瞳孔11. Which of the following is TRUE?A. 3-D glasses help people get the same image in each eye.B. 3-D glasses make the screen look brighter.C. A 3-D film needs two film projectors to be made.D. People with eye problems can’t see 3-D films.DA company, Guizhentang, has had to face a storm of criticism. The company is in the bear bile* business. They have bear farms inwhich bile is taken out and used in traditional Chinese medicine andfor other purposes.Bile is a liquid that is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. In bears (and in humans too), bile is necessary to help digestfatty foods. Traditional Chinese medicine uses bear bile to treat pain, fever and vision problems. Bile for traditional Chinese medicine used to be collected by killing bears, but it was discovered that bear bile could be got by keeping the bears alive and just “milking” them by putting a ru bber tube* into the bodies of bears. Unfortunately, this is a painful process and the bears have to live a life of suffering*.Animal rights groups want this practice to stop. They say it is a cruel way to treat animals. Guizhentang disagrees. They say the practice isn’t harmful and that they are actually helping the bears. There are fewer Chinese black bears, from which the bile is taken, because human activityis destroying the forest the bears live in. The company says bear farms are a way to protect the species. On the one hand, we use many types of animals for food, clothing, medicine and for medical research. On the other hand, we should know that causing animals great pain is wrong. There are man-made substitutes* for bear bile that work just as well as the real thing, so bear farms aren’t really necessary. If Guizhentang really wants to protect the black bear, they should perhaps think about getting out of the bear bile business.12. Guizhentang has been criticized because ________.A. it kills a lot of black bearsB. it makes traditional Chinese medicineC. it is in the bear bile businessD. it has a lot of farms to keep bears13. What can we learn about bear bile from the passage?① It is produced in the gall bladder.② It helps digest foods having a lot of fat.③It can cure a person’s eye problems.④It’s now got mainly by killing bearsA. ①②B. ②③C. ③④D. ①④14. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A. A tube in the bodies of bears can make them die.B. Animal rights groups are against getting the bile out of bears.C. Guizhentang thinks bear farms are a way to protect bears.D. Some medical research needs bear bile.15. I was not happy, so I gave the plant to my friend Linda. One day, another friend Mary called and invited me to her office. When I walked in, her jasmine flowers surprised me.I reached out to touch the flowers. Mary cut some and gave them to me. I couldn‟t help smelling them. Surrounded by the sweet smell of only a handful of these flowers, I suddenly understood something.Mary bought her plant the same time I did. It took a year for her jasmine to bloom. I was so impatient for mine to bloom; regretfully, I gave it away.In a way my life is like the jasmine plant. I need to be patient and let things happen.Last Sunday Linda told me that she was going abroad the next week. Before she left, she returned the plant to me. This time I am going to wait. If someone says or does something that we don‟t like, we should just be qui et and try to stay away from that person in the future. Why is Assertiveness important? If you don‟t know how to be assertive, you might experience:•Depression - Anger, a sense of being helpless, hopeless,or of having no control over your life.•Resentment - Anger at others for taking advantage of you.•Frustration - Why did I allow that to happen? Most people find it easier to be assertive in some situations than in others. This makes perfect sense. It‟s a lot easier to hold your ground with a stranger than with someone you love. But the more important the relationship is to you, the moreimportantit is to be assertive. Assertive behavior leads to increased respect from others! But before you decide to act assertively, you have to decide if you can livewith the results. Although assertive behavior usually will result in a positiveresponse (积极的回应),some people might react differently. How to be effectively(有效地)assertive:•Use “I” statements. Keep the focus on the problem you‟re having. “I‟d like to be able to tell my stories without interruption.” instead of “You‟re always interrupting my stories ! “•Use facts, not opinions. “Did you know that shirt has ahole?” instead of”You‟re not going out looking like THAT, are you?”•Express ownership of your thoughts, feelings, and opinions. “I get angry when he breaks his promises. “ instead of “He makes me angry. “• Make clear and direct requirements. Don‟t invite the person to say no. “Will you please?” instead of‟W o uld you mind...?” or “Why don‟t you...?”•Keep repeating your point. Use a low level and pleasant voice. Don‟t try to explain yourself.53. The writer probably agrees that---____________.A. you should consider others‟ response before you act assertivelyB. you should be assertive if you want to get good marksC. assertiveness is the ability to infringe others‟ rights .D. assertive behavior will bring you bad feelings54. Which of the following helps you to be effectively assertive?A. Explaining yourself in a soft and sweet voice.B. Expressing ownership of oth ers‟ thoughts.C. Making requirements directly and clearly.D. Using your opinions instead of facts.DThe willful blindness in hockey toward concussions (头部撞击) has dropped. Hockey Canada has followed the lead of USA Hockey in preventing bodychecking (身体拦截) below age 13. A bad head injury of Sidney Crosby, the hockey‟s greatest star, opened the eyes of hockey people everywhere. This country‟s children have been facing similar danger at early ages, and Hockey Canada had to deal with a deep worry in the minds of Canadians to make the rule change. The liking for bodychecking from an early age is part of what makes Canadian hockey what it is.The change in rules should be taken as a chance to draw special attention to skill development in an environment free of danger. It may also control the loss of thousands of young players who don‟t enjoy that environment. For years, many Canadian hockey parents and coacheshave insisted that bodychecking at early ages is necessary to ensure that players can do it safely at older ages. True or not, there may be a safer way to teach hitting than to make younger players pay a price for it in head injuries. When USA Hockey changed its rules for the 2011-2012 season, it also created bodychecking-education programs that will be mandatory(强制的) for all coaches, including those teaching players in the pre-checking ages. And it began to encourage more “touch” - without real bodychecking - from 9 t0 12. It also made the rules for 13 and up stricter. The USA is trying to show that it‟s possible to teach hockey protective skills without putting11 and 12-year-olds in greater danger. It‟s worth the try.Hockey Canada has taken serious steps to do away with hits on the head. However, it‟s hard to change a sports culture so connected with who we are as a country. Too often, bodychecking has been used to try to separate a player from his head rather than from the ball. Children were paying a price for this country‟s love of the game. There are always changes in Canada‟s ga me, and the change in the bodychecking age sends the clearest message yet to coaches and parents that player safety is paramount(至上的) in the game.56. We can tell that the problem of bodychecking in Canada____________.A. is controlled strictlyB. is taken more seriously nowC. is caused by players‟ carelessnessD. is connected with players‟ interest57. What does the writer want to tell us in Paragraph 2?A. The safe ways of controlling the loss.B. The steps of drawing special attention.C. The possible results of changing the rules.D. The methods of improving the environment.58. What can we learn from the passage?A. The USA found a safer way to teach bodychecking.B. Bodychecking-education programs in the USA are successful.C. Bodychecking is a good way to value players‟ skills in the USA.D. The USA has tried to create an environment of less bodychecking.59. What is probably the best title‟ for this passage?A. Which is more important?B. How do we change the rules?C. Why is hockey a dangerous game?D. When should bodychecking be prevented?七、阅读短文,根据短文内容,从短文后的五个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

2013年中考英语精品复习资料-阅读理解议论文篇(一)

2013年中考英语精品复习资料阅读理解篇(一)议论文(1)Do you want to live a happier, less stressful (有压力的) life? Try laughing for no reason at all. That’s how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world —and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy. The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. “Young children laugh about 300 tim es a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr. Kataria. “Everyone’s naturally good at laughing —it’s the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide. Many doctors are also interested in the effects (效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.So, what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest —I wasn’t interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I wa s worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha,” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can’t tell the difference between fake laughter and real laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real — and some people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!48. In which country was the first Laughter Club started?A. Britain.B. America.C. Australia.D. India.49.
