In order to defend the Saxons, a great leader—King Arthur appeared. He created the "round table" to satisfy all the kni ghts' requirement of having equal precedence. Thus it gradually formed the monarchy in Britain as a more democratic system. Whether Arthur's a real person in the history or not, Anglo-Saxons did succeed in invading Britain and they were the forefathers of the English. In the 8th century, the Vikings from Denmark controlled the northern and eastern England. Even today, w e can still find this personality from the British people through their lifestyles. In fact, such invasion is a peaceful history of joining together the various parts of the British Isles and the power graduall y transferred from the monarch to the parliament.

There were bitter debates, and on at least two occasions, the Constitutional Convention cameclose to breaking up. The interests of economic classes were pittedagainst each other; the interests of small and large colonies wereantagonistic; the interests of colonies that had many Negro slaveswere opposed to those of colonies with few slaves. There werearguments over the control of exports and imports and the amount ofauthority a federal government should have over the basic rights ofindividuals. It is a wonder that there was any final agreement aboutthese matters. But the convention continued, and by September thegovernment had been hammered out.(from Language and life in the U.S.A. VOL.

Chief Joseph
“Whenever the white man treats the Indian as they treat each other then we shall have no more wars. We shall be all alike -- brothers of one father and mother, with one sky above us and one country around us and one government for all. Then the Great Spirit Chief who rules above will smile upon this land and send rain to wash out the bloody spots made by brothers' hands upon the face of the earth. For this time the Indian race is waiting and praying. I hope no more groans of wounded men and women will ever go to the ear of the Great Spirit Chief above, and that all people may be one people.”
