EU Calls for ‘Banking Union’ to Ease CrisisBy Associated Press,TIME, Business, May 30, 2012(1)BRUSSELS — The European Union’s executive office on Wednesday called on the 17 countries in the eurozone to create a “banking union” that can centrally oversee and — if needed — bail out the sector, which has become a weak link in the continent’s financial system.(2)Bank failures have already overwhelmed the public finances of Ireland, forcing it to take an international bailout, and some fear Spain could be next. The European Commission, while recommending that Spain be given an extra year to meet its deficit targets, suggested that regulation of the entire eurozone banking sector be done centrally.(3)In its recommendations on how to deal with the financial crisis which has pushed the shared single currency to the brink, the Commission said it wants to boost cross-border management of banks, which are currently overseen by a patchwork of national regulators with different rules.(4)Part of that would see the eurozone’s permament bailout fund, the ESM, charged with paying for bank bailouts. That would protect individual governments from having their public finances overwhelmed by the cost of rescuing a bank.(5)EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the ESM should be better able to help out troubled banks across national borders if need be. In the future, “the building blocks could include a banking union with integrated financial supervision and a single deposit guarantee scheme.”“Direct recapitalization by the ESM might be envisaged,” the Commission’s report said.(6)The Commission also made specific recommendations to nations mired in the financial crisis on how to manage its national budgets and rein in debt and spending.(7)Spain, which is currently the focus of the European financial crisis, should be given an extra year — to 2014 — to get its budget deficit back within European targets.(8)EU Commissioner Olli Rehn said the Spanish government should be given such an extension only if it can effectively control the excessive spending in the semi-autonomous regions and present “solid two year budget plans for 2013 and 2014.”(9)In this case, “we are ready to consider proposing an extension of the deadline to correct the excessive deficit by one year,” Rehn said.(10)European leaders will consider the Commission’s recommendations before making a ruling at a summit in June.

And accuracy is a guarantee and premise of real, objective and credible. Due to limited by report object itself and objective economic phenomenon, economic news is impressed by its abstract, profound and unattractive. It is make economic news stand out.ⅠGrammatical features1. The sentence structure of economic news’ English title has close links with time effect of news report.According to the analysis of some corpuses, economic news’English titles are written not more than 15 words. In general, it use present tense instead of past tense, use indeterminate form instead of future tense. And in economic news, writers usually prefer to use phrases, simple sentences and non-finite verb forms(indeterminate form, gerund and participle) rather than use long sentence.1.1 The English headline of economic news’ structural features——phrases, simple sentences 1.1.1 Short sentences titlecentre word + post modifiere.g. China’s trade friction to continue this yearForeign invested firms to lose tax, land use privilegespremodifier + centre worde.g. Oil Companies Attack Legislationthe Paid Music Service1.1.2 Sentence-titlecomplete sentencese.g. AT&T yields to seal BellSouth dealMore than 70 pct stock investors gainnon-complete sentencese.g. FDI in China to remain steady this year Ministry of CommerceHK, NY-listed China Mobile to return to mainland stock market1.2 The greatest feature of economic news——ellipsis of function wordsOmit all the words without real meaning can shorten the length of title. Title: Selected Readings from British and American Newspapers (Supplementary Materials) - Category BArticle 1: "Technology's Role in Reshaping the Job Market"In today's rapidly evolving job market, technology is playing an increasingly pivotal role. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and digitalization has disrupted traditional employment patterns, leading to both excitement and apprehension among workers.Employment experts argue that instead of viewing technological advancements as threats, individuals should embrace them as opportunities for professional growth. The rise of AI and automation has led to the creation of new job roles that require skills unique to humans, such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and creativity. However, concerns persist regarding job security and the potential displacement of workers by advanced machinery. As technology continues to advance, the need for adaptable workers who possess a diverse skill set becomes critical. Governments and educational institutions must collaborate to bridge the skills gap by providing training and reskilling programs to ensure individuals are equipped for the jobs of the future.Article 2: "The Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture"Climate change poses a significant challenge to farmers, threatening food production and global food security. Scientists suggest that as average temperatures increase, extreme weather events like droughts, floods, and heatwaves could become more frequent and severe, adversely affecting crop yields and livestock health. In response to these challenges, farmers are implementing innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change on agriculture. These include adopting precision agriculture techniques, implementing water-saving irrigation systems, and using genetically modified crops that are more resistant to pests and diseases.Nonetheless, the task of feeding a growing global population amidst a changing climate remains daunting. Experts stress the importance of international cooperation in developing sustainable agricultural practices, investing inclimate-resilient infrastructure, and supporting farmers in adopting climate-smart strategies.Article 3: "The Rise of E-commerce: Transforming Retail"The rise of e-commerce has revolutionized the retail industry, altering shopping habits and challenging traditional brick-and-mortar stores. Online shopping offers convenience, a wide variety of products, and competitive pricing, attracting a growing number of consumers. This shift has led to a decline in footfall at physical stores, prompting retailers to adapt or face obsolescence. Many have responded by integrating online and offline shopping experiences, offering click-and-collect services, and creating interactive in-store experiences. While e-commerce offers numerous benefits, concerns have been raised regarding the impact on local businesses and the loss of personalized customer service. However, retailers who successfully embrace technology and leverage data analytics can enhance their competitiveness and offer personalized recommendations to customers. In conclusion, technology, climate change, and e-commerce are transforming various aspects of society, ranging from the job market to agriculture and retail. Adapting to these changes requires a combination of embracing new opportunities, addressing challenges, and fostering collaboration between various stakeholders.。

1Introduction
Toni Morrison isone of the most outstanding and influential contemporary African American womenwriterswhoreceive the Nobel Prize in literature(1993). She is also the winner of the National Book Critic Circle Award (1977), the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (1988) and many other literary awards. As a writer, she is fully aware of her responsibility. She knows why and what she writes. For her, the African American writing has“an obligation to bear witness”and“would take her people throughthepain and denial of their racially haunted history to a healing zone.”(DavidRon, 2000, p.32) This is clearly reflected in the novels; in particular inThe Bluest Eye.Morrison shows the distorted image of blacks under the control of white culture by her own experience. As a black woman writer, Toni Morrison pays much more attention to the destiny of black women, and tries to call on the black people to boycott the invasion of white culture. She would like toregain the traditional image of the blacks—natural and pure, cure the blacks from the emotional, psychological and culture aspects, and then reconstruct the national consciousness. Her works are usually based on thetraditionalhistory and lives of African Americans. She uses her influence to encourage other writers to pay attention to the blacks’ issuesand pushes African American novels to a newer and higherstandard.Afterawarding the Nobel Prize for Literaturein 1993, the Swedish Academy, DanilleTailor-GuthriepraisedMorrisonfor giving “life to an essential aspect of American reality” in novels “characterized by visionary force and poetic import”(Tailor-Guthrie, 1994, p.6).

(1)A Tentative Study of Female’s Psychological Factors in Sino-American Business Negotiation福建师范大学协和学院外语系英语专业12402200500××××[Abstract] Negotiation is a common and necessary process in concluding an international transaction. With an increasing number of females participating in Sino-American business negotiation, they have found that they are always in an awkward position. Owing to the gender discrimination and their psychological factors, the public tend to put down to the female negotiators the barriers and failure that they have met in negotiating terms. Hence, this thesis is to analyze Sino-American cultural differences on the impact of women negotiators and to probe into their psychological performance in negotiations. By means of the above-mentioned research, suggestions will beoffered to the female negotiators. Meanwhile, this thesis aims to change people’s traditional perspective upon female and reach a comparative balance to estimate female’s psychological influence.[Key Words] female; psychology; Sino-America; business negotiation1. IntroductionThe 20th century nurtures unprecedented change in business world. While an increasing number of females enter into this field, they obtain more opportunity to express themselves creatively at the negotiation table as well as men. However, it cannot be neglected that discrimination and prejudice against females still exists in man-dominated world. What’s worse, female negotiators’certain psychology leading to the failure of the negotiations makes people doubt their competencies. Therefore, females’status in business world has remained a controversial issue. Besides, this thesis focuses on analyzing the different cultures between Sino-America with the impact their female negotiators. Moreover, this thesis also consists of the following aspects: the first part presents a general perspective upon females. The second part analyzes their performances and psychology as business negotiators. The last part provides females with some suggestions when they engage in negotiation. As the traditional idea about women’s “place”is so deeply rooted in people’s mind, it’s necessary to judge female negotiators more objectively.2. Traditional perspective upon females across the worldUrging of the Feminism and the Liberation Movement involves women in winning their equal rights in politics, economic and education, etc. However, although women have entered male-dominated professions in greater numbers in the past decades than at any previous time, “women remain underrepresented in the highest levels of their professions”(Brannon, 2005:338). Females can never get rid of the label of “the weaker sex”because this traditional point has rooted into the public’s mind.2.1 Acceptance2.2 Discrimination in terms3. Bad behavior in the classroom is being fuelled by parents, union leader saysIn this article, Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teacher and Lecturers said some middle-class parents were “buying off” their children with computers and televisions instead of teaching them basic social skills, which caused that some pupils were disruptive in the class and didn’t respect those in authority, the right of the teacher to teach and the right of their peers to learn. Therefore, Mary Bousted appealed parents of disruptive pupils to attend parenting classes to help them deal with badly-behaved children. From my point of view, I don’t completely agree with every thing Mary Bousted said. I think she totally attributed pupils’ ba d behavior in school to parents. To some extent, pupils may do better if parents put more efforts and attention on teaching them some basic social skills. However, we shouldn’t totally blame the middle-class parents, because most of them are busy with work and work hard so that they may don’t have too much time to teach their children. Nevertheless, it’s not the only factors that cause pupils behave badly in the school. Schools and teachers should be to blame for it, too. Pupils disrupt the class probably because the class is too boring and teaching pattern is old-fashioned and inflexible, so the class can’t attract their attention at all. Thus, the teachers had better spend more time in improving the quality of their classes and making their classes active and interesting. To sum up, teachers and parents should work together on improving children’s learning and behavior. In the article, Bousted said,“Parents have a duty to ensure they’re bringing their children up so that they understand how they should be behaving in school, and respecting those in authority , the right of the teacher to teach and the right of their peers to learn.” I think her words are absurd. I can’t help wanting to asking if pupils need parents to teach them every thing, and then what are the functions of schools and teachers? Perhaps there is no point existing for the schools and teachers. As teachers, their job is not only to impart knowledge, but to teach students moral principles. So, they should have the ability to make students behave well and learn how to respect authority. The main idea of the article is bad behavior in the classroom is being fuelled by parents who “buy off” their children with computers and televisions. However, I think the second paragraph and the first two sentences in the third paragr aph don’t have too much connection with the topic. They can not effectively support the stance. These sentences just show that computers and TV have a bad effect on children and isolate them within the room, but all these don’t have direct relation to children’s bad behavior in the classroom.Bousted blames middle-class parents for their children’s bad behavior, but she doesn’t give enough evidences to support her point. The computer and TV can’t be an effective evidence to explain children’s bad behavior. For example, some childrenspend much time on computers and TV, but their social skills are pretty good and they behave well in the classroom. So, Bousted should find out other root causes. The Guardian, author Rachel Williams, Tuesday 23 March 2010 07.00 GMT/education/2010/mar/23/classroom-behaviour-spoilt-b y-computers?INTCMP=SRCH。

Selected Reading of American and British NewspaperAssignment Title: Indulging Yourself In Old TimesStudent Name:Student ID: 101110123Student signature: Date: 23th, Dec. 2012Indulging Yourself In Old Times: Comments on Downton Abbey Cast Have Fyne Time Discovering Their Scottish Heritage The essay I am going to comment on is from a British newspaper called The Sun. The title of the essay is Downton Abbey Cast Have Fyne Time Discovering Their Scottish Heritage by Scott Campbell, published on 23th, Dec. 2012. The thesis statement is giving yourself a chance to see how the other half live was just too good to turn down. This article was more like an advertisement than a introduction of a tourism place. It described the Downton Abbey with several detailed places such as the castle, souvenir shops, the Jail, the Fyne dining, sporting fields, country houses and so on. As is famous in Britain, Downton was used to making movies and TVs. While in the real world, Duneagle is Inveraray Castle once served as the historic home of the 14th Dukes of Argyll since the 17th Century. These are two reasons that why it is well-known. The castle shows people the history of one of Scotland’s most majestic and powerful clans. The inside of the castle is quite fabulous and glorious and attracts lots of people since it was opened to the public. As well, various tasty food are served here. If the tourists want to have some leisurely drinking and chatting time, the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is a good station to settle themselves down. After drinking and eating, people can go for a wandering or do some sporting activities in the nearby Argyll Forest Park. If the tourists are bored of normal stuffs, they could rent a car and drive to Quadmania to play clay pigeon shooting. Just as their announcement goes “Whether you fancy living, dining or relaxing like an Earl or Duke, awesome Argyll has it all!”, this place is quite a great place to spend your vacations at. That’s all the article was about. After reading this article, I found some points to comment on:Firstly, careful organization of this article brought readers a clear line of thoughts. It described this place step by step. The writer started with the history and the location of the castle. According to what I have learned in the tourism English class, an introduction to an exact place must be clear and brief. First, the history of the place must be distinct. For details, you can explain the significant dynasties and ages of this place and what major events had happened there. Then, you may lead the readers and the tourists into the place with aninteresting story or an mysterious legend which helps arouse their curiosity about this place. In this article, the writer used the effect of noble families—the 13th Duke of Argyll. The fame of the noble was like a sudden sparkling glare, flashing into people’s eyes. Just as the old saying goes: Curiosity killed the cat. Human being would as well sense the fascination and throw themselves willing into a river called adventure. After drawing their attention, the next thing to do is telling them the function of the place. Some places are used to relax and have a break from the daily busy life, such as a beach house or a cabin in the village. While there are some places for tourists to pursue breathtaking activities and thrilling adventures. Mostly young people are fond of these places, they call these adventures and crazy behaviors “Another Unique Style of Life”. Families would rather like to go to farms and crop fields so that children could get closed to nature and know about this world better. If someone wants to acquire some historical knowledge, he or she may go to a historical spot like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. Different people have different appetites for touring and having fun. It is important to draw a clear distinction among various people. After all, a disease known is half the cure. After the function part, you can go through the building structure, special sights, local tasty food, native festivals, weather, and so on to fulfill the whole introduction.Secondly, Argyll which was picked to show to the public by the writer is indeed a great place to visit. Argyll is at the west of Glasgow extending from Loch Lomond, with Oban in south and Machrihanish in north, located in Scotland. It is a extremely beautiful and romantic place in Scotland where the TV show Downton Abbey shoot. Tourists in Argyll would find lots of amazing things such as the delicious food, fabulous landscapes and a funny and healthy sport—golf. There are many little places of interest in Argyll. You’ll notice the breathtaking Scottish villages, residence of the Duke, Royal town of Invervaray, and miraculously beautiful little Scottish islands around the main land in the green-blue ocean just like the twinkling stars in the peaceful sky. As a regionally whole part, Argyll is usually divided into smaller regional parts—Mid Argyll North Argyll, Cowal and Bute, Kintyre and The Mull of Kintyre, Oban, and other small isles. Each part has its own special characteristics. There are many featured houses in Argyll that may cause people’s interests. For example the Oatfield House near to Campbeltown, the Struan House where you can view the working fish quay, the Putechan Hotel which was newly opened in this spring, the Wellpark Hotel with itsdelightful and quiet rooms, the Dunvalanree Hotel with the finest seafood, the Pennyland Farm where tourists can play golf and so on. Thus, Argyll is really a great place that worth visiting.Thirdly, words and phrases used by the writer were well-organized. I’ll take some of them as examples and analyze generally. The writer used the rhetorical technique of metaphor—“added bonus”. The writer took the unexpected surprise of seeing the stunning view as the origin and took the “added bonus ” as the analog. As we all know, the original meaning of “added bonus ” is extra money award. The writer’s humor was fully expressed here. This article described the scenery of Argyll and I made some personal comments on this article for three points: the appropriate order and procedure of introducing a place, the location and scene of Argyll and the good language of this article.Everybody is trying his or her best to compose some wonderful things no matter it is an article or a piece of comment. Perfect is a word that the world hadn’t learned to say to us. So we should admit others’ advantages and correct our own mistakes.Touring is so enjoyable that it brings us happiness and helps us build our sweet dreams. We are supposed to take our time to tour around to experience different kinds of life styles and broad our eyesight.Life is so short, just enjoy it!。
