Rising tobacco use in developing countries is believed to be a huge reason for the shift, particularly in China andIndia, where 40 percent of the world' s smokers now live. "Cancer cases around the world have steadily been rising and are expected tohit 12 million this year. Global cancer deaths are expected to reach 7 million, " according to the new report by the World HealthOrganization (WHO) . B Whether you go through a dealer (经销商)or deal directly with a private owner, the simplest way to pay less for a car is to buy a used car. But the lower price often carries some risk with it. When it comes to buying used cars, the message is definitely buyer-bewared. Find out all you can about the car history and its condition before you buy it. Buying from a dealer Buying the nearly new is often the easiest way to get your money' s worth. Many brand new models lose up to half their value in the first two years. So buying a two-year-old car gets you a half-price bargain that is still in good shape and unlikely to pay high repair bills. Buying from a dealer is usually more expensive than buying privately, but it may provide you withmore help should there be problems down the road. Cheaper from aprivate seller Privately sold cars are usually cheaper than those bought from dealers. When you are viewing the car at the seller' s home, pick a time when there is daylight and the weather is good. You want to be able to check the vehicle over thoroughly and get a feelfor how well it has been maintained. Vehicle history Look up thehistory of the vehicle while you are considering on the Internet. Websites like CarProof. ca (or if you prefer to call 1-519~675-1415) and RoadCompanion. ca can help you uncover things that a dealer maynot be telling you. If you have the vehicle registration number (VINor serial number) and about $25, you can find out, for example, if there are any liens registered by creditors (债权人),if the car has been stolen, and if it has an odometer (里程计) history. By checking the vehicle' s history before you buy, you will be protecting yourself from hidden problems. <!一endprint一> <!一startprint--> 45. Gabby Gaborik is among several dozen volunteers who believe in the Santa Claus, opening boxes full of letters, as many as 12, 000 a day. With 6, 000 now arriving daily, volunteers are busy sending off pre-printed replies to children who have sent return addresses. "We try to keep the big guy mysterious (神秘的),so we sign off as Santa, s helpers," said Gaborik. There are the children who want the latest toys and the children who ask for miracles, orphans wanting their mothers back for Christmas or fathers back from Iraq, even though they died there. Some enclose a dollar bill to cover postage. Gaborik still surprised at a letter that arrived three years ago with a Michigan postmark and no postage stamp. It is a holiday that is gaining in popularity every year throughout the country. Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged, and orphaned (孤儿) , but also friends, relatives and companions whose helpfulnessand kindness we have enjoyed.Cleveland man, believing that the city , s orphans and patients too often felt forgotten, thought out the idea of showing them that they were remembered. During the following years, other Clevelanders began to join in thecelebration ceremony, which came to be called "Sweetest Day" . In time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the poor was broadened to everyone, and became an occasion for remembering others with a kind act or a small remembrance. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country. Sweetest Day is not based on any single group' s religious feelings or on a family relationship.
