They are expected to produce clean and renewable energy. With solar panels on the surfaces, solar roads cost more than traditional roads. However, besides the functions of traditional roods, they have the panels to receive sunlight and change it into the energy to supply power to homes, factories and street lighting. There are four layers in a solar panel:•Base layer: It is made of insulation material and forms a good grip with the road below this layer.•Middle layer: This is the most important layer. It holds all kinds of power lines connecting all the solar parts in the panel, like LED lights and the heating system.•Top layer: This layer is super-strong glass. It allows the panel to hold the weight of the heaviest vehicles.•Capping: This is the topmost layer used to offer extra protection to the solar parts in the panel. The layer must be rough enough to provide the traction for the safety of vehicles. With the smart design, solar roads can successfully charge the vehicles on them. And the roads have inbuilt LED lights to replace the traditional rood signs and lines, which are usually painted and harmful to humans. What’s more, the heating systems in the solar roads can take care of the snow and ice on the roads for drivers.Test solar roads have been built in several countries (France, China, USA, etc.) since 2014. The first word solar road project, Metrics of Watt Way in France, was set up by a French company called Construction Colas. It was an example of low effectiveness. In the first year, it had been expected to produce around 767 kWh of energy a day, but it only produced 409 kWh. Even so, the production could increase with design improvements. Of course, more time is needed before this technology is put into use.Solar roads may not be widely used in the near future, but they are indeed great for an environment-friendly and energy-saving world.1. But when we talk about day and night, we are using “day” to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Because the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night. At the equator (赤道) day and night are sometimes the same length. They are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o’clock in the morning and sets at 6 o’clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole is tilted (倾斜的) towards the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere. Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days.

Have you ever tried to hide your emotions(情感)from someone during a conversation?1Scientists from the Ohio State University have found that people are able to tell other people's emotions according to the changes in the color of their faces.Scientists studied pictures of people s facial expressions. 2 For example, happiness makes our faces red around the cheeks and a little blue around the chin. Disgust(厌恶) creates not only a blue-yellow color around the lips, but also a red-green color around the nose and forehead.“We believe these color patterns are the result of small changes in blood flow triggered (触发) by the central nervous( 神经) system. ”Lead researcher Alex Martin said.3 Does the color alone or also facial expressions help people tell others' emotions? To figure this out, scientists added color patterns to pictures of faces that showed no facial expessions. 4 They were able to tell the emotions 75 percent of the time without anydifficulty.5 For example, when two people are heatedly arguing over something, we say they are red in the face. When a person is very angry,we'd say he or she is blue in the face.A. But this raises a question.B. They found that every facial expression was connected to a certain color.C. It's not always easy, because the colors on your face may tell the truth.D. Then, volunteers were asked to tell what emotions the faces were showing.E. This is why there are some Chinese sayingsthat connect emotions to the color of one's face.1. 2. 3. 4. 5.二You' ve been learning words since you were a tiny baby. At first, you learned them only by hearing other people talk. Now that you're a reader, you have another way to learn words. What should you do when you come to a word and you think you don't know what it means?1 Say itFirst, sound it out. Then say it to yourself.2 Sometimes you know a word in your head but you don't know what it looks like in print. So if you match up what you know and what you read-you have the word!Use contextIf this doesn't work, take the next step: look at the context-the other words and sentences around it. Read this sentence: When it rained, the dog looked for shelter in the doorway. 3Rainand in the doorway might give you helpful information.4If the context doesn't help, look at the parts of the word. Does it have any parts you know? These can help you understand what it means. If you don't know the meaning of miner, try looking at parts of the word.
