While there was some sadness among the employees at the unexpected news of the death of their co-worker, they were curious to know who was stopping them from succeeding. Passage ThreeQuestions 11 to 15 are based on the following passageThere are a few things you should keep in mind when you talk to your professors, especially if youask for a particula r favor. Call them by the right title. A “Doctor” is someone with a Ph. D.; not all professors have a Ph.D.“Professor” is usually acceptable, unless you have been told otherwise. I prefer to be called bymy first name, and I make that point clear on the first day of my class. If you are totally unsure, a“Mf," or“Ms.” is usually fine. Do not use“Mrs.” unless the professor herself uses it; it is time to recognize that not all adult women are or want to be married. Be prepared to do the work. If you have missed an assignment or a test or are falling behind in your reading, and you are seeking help to catch up or a special dispensation (豁免)to make up the assignment, you had better be prepared to do the work - and generally under more difficult conditions. I get the impression that a lot of students imagine I might just say “don't worry about it, I'll give you the points anyway. " This, of course, is not going to happen. Prepare for disappointment. So often a professor will not or cannot help you. Your professor probably spent hours writing his or her syllabus (课程大纲), and probably spent another hour explaining it to you at the beginning of the class, so he or she has invested a lot in the rules. Theyespecially hate it when you do not do an assignment and then ask for a way to make it up. Your onlychoice might be to shift into damage control, see what you can do, and ask honestly if you should continue in the class. As a general rule, professors respect true interest. They will go out of theirway to help if they feel that you are honestly interested in doing well.11. Which title is usually acceptable for a student to call a teacher at a university?A. Doctor.B. Professor.C. Mr. or Mrs.D. First name.12. As a university student who has missed a test, you had better___A. ask for a particular favorB. ask for an easy makeup testC. get prepared to work harderD. seek help from your professor13. Professors hate it when students do not do an assignment and then ask for a way to make it up, forthey have already____A. explained the syllabusB. invested much in the rulesC. finished writing their syllabusD. prepared to disappoint their students14. What will professors do when they feel that you are really interested in doing well?A. Offer you help as much as possible.B. Require you to catch up with othersC. Ask you to get prepared for the work.D. Give you the points you want to have.15. What can you infer from the passage?A. We can often use "Mrs." for women professors.B. The ,author is likely to give the points as the students wish.C. You should drop out of the class when you fail to do an assignment.D, Students should follow some advice when dealing with their professors. Passage FourQuestions 16 to 20 are based on the following passage:Imagine there is a small fire in your kitchen. Your fire 'alarm goes off, warning everyone nearbyabout the danger. Someone calls 911.You try to put the fire out yourself- maybe you evenhave a fire extinguisher (灭火器)in the kitchen. If that does not work, you know how to safely leave. By the time you get outside, a fire truck is already pulling up.Firefighters use the hydrant (消防栓)in front of your house to extinguish the fire before any of your neighbors' homes are ever at risk of catching fire. We need to prepare to fight disease outbreaks just as we prepare to fight fires. If a fire is left to bumout of control, it becomes a threat not only to one home but to an entire community. The same is true for infectious (传染的)diseases, except on a much bigger scale. As we know all too well fromCovid-19, an outbreak in one town can quickly spread across an entire country and then around the world. When the World Health Organization first described Covid-19 as a pandemic just over three years ago, it marked a collective failure to prepare for pandemics, despite many warnings. And I worry that we are making the same mistakes again. The world has not done as much to get ready for the next pandemic as I had hoped. But it is not too late to stop history from repeating itself. The world needs a well-funded system that is ready, to act immediately when danger appears. We need a fire department for pandemics. I am optimistic about a network called the Global Health Emergency Corps (全球卫生应急联盟)that the WHO and its partners are ,building. This network of the world's top health emergency leaders will work together to get ready for the next pandemic. Just as firefighters run drills to practice responding to a fire, the Emergency Corps plans to run drills to practice for outbreaks. The exercises will make sure that everyone governments, health care providers, emergency health workers- knows what to do when a potential outbreak appears.16. What is the relationship between pandemics and fires according to the author?A. Pandemics are not as dangerous as fires.B. Fires are easier to control than pandemics.C. Both can quickly spread across an entire country.D. Both pose a threat to a community if left uncontrolled.17. As for pandemics, the author is worried that____.A. they are not dangerous than firesB. Firefighters are not trained to respond to themC. the world is not doing enough to prepare for themD. the Global Health Emergency Corps will not be successful18. What is the Global Health Emergency Corps?A. An organization that provides funding for medical research.B. A program to train firefighters to respond to health emergencies.c. A new technology launched by WHO to extinguish fires more efficientlyD. A network of top health emergency leaders preparing for the next pandemic19. What is the purpose of running drill for outbreaks?A.To ensure everyone knows what to do.B. To ask people to take health measures.C. To find an effective cure for pandemics.D. To test fire extinguishers in case of a fire.20. What is the main idea of the passage?A. We should always have a fire extinguisher in our kitchen:B. Covid-19 was not described as a pandemic over three years ago.C.The world needs to prepare for pandemics as we prepare for fires.D. Firefighters should work together with health care providers during pandemics. Format llDirections: In the following passage, some sentences have been removed. For manypeople such factors as sound, light and heat can all affect sleep, and for those living in a city these factors may become more serious. In order to get the good night's sleep required, in the central area of a busy noisy city, here are some simple tips to follow. Being surrounded by the liveliness' of a city can mean an increase in noise, whether it is fromtraffic or 'the people in the room next door. In order to ensure you remain in a deep sleep throughout the night67. it is important to ensure your bedroom is as quiet as possible. Where soundproofing (PFHï)mayseem extreme, there are small changes which can help to reduce sound levels. 68. Bookshelves can be excellent for absorbing noise through the walls, but for smaller apartments this may not be the ideal solution. Fans, televisions or radios are another great measure to reduce harmfrom sound in a room. For reducing noise levels from the street, hanging heavier curtains will help to lessen the sound, while having small impact on the overall beauty of the room. If such changes are not possible or space is restricted, then 69. buying a pair of ear plugs could be the simplest way to reduce noise for a goodsleep, at night. The natural light and dark cycle directly influences sleep, letting the human body know 70. when it is time to wake up and when it should be sleeping.
比如说,“人山人海”不能直接翻译成“people mountain people sea”,而应该是“huge crowds of people”。

Part Ⅰ Reading Comprehension (共60分) SectionA (共20小题,每小题2分,共40分) Directions :In this part there are four passages. Each passage is followed by a number of comprehension questions.Read the passage and answer the questions. Then, mark your answer by blackening the correponding letter on the Answer Sheet. Passage 1 Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage. Human feeling are affected by color unconsciously.Manufacturers have discovered by trial and error that sugar sells badly in green wrappings, that blue foods are considered by consumer as tasteles, and that cosmetics should never be packaged in brown. These discoveries have grown into a whole discipline of color psychology. Some of our preferences are clearly psychological. Dark blue is the color of the nightsky and therefore associated with calm, while yellow is a key color in association with energy.for primitive men, activity during the day meant hunting and attacking ,in which he soon saw as red ,the color of blood and hunting and fire .So it was natural姓名:_____________报考学校报考专业: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------密封线---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------that green, the complementary color to red, should be associated with passive defense. Experiments have shown that colors also have a direct psychological effect.People, when exposed to bright red ,show an increase in breathing rate, heart beat and blood pressure .Red is exciting . Similar exposure to pure blue has exactly the opposite effect, because it is a calming color.Because red has an implication of excitement,it is chosen as the signal for danger. Some analyses show that a vivid yellow can produce a more basic state of alertness and alarm .So fire engines and ambulances in some advanced countries are now rushing around in bright yellow colors that stop taffic dead.( )1.If people are exposed to red ,which of the following statements dose NOT happen?A.They feel afraid.B.They breathe faster.C.Their blood pressure rises.D.There hearts beat faster.( )2.Manufactures have discovered the secret of colors in marketing .A.by experimenting with different colorsB.by developing the discipline of color psychologyC.by trying not to make mistakesD.by accumulating their various experiences( )3.Which of the following is NOT ture ?A.Our feelings about certain colors are purely psychological.B.Food should never be packaged in brown.C.Sugar sells dadly in green wrappings.D.Color probably has an effect on us which we are not conscious of.( )4.Our preferences for certain colors are .A.dependent on our characterB.linked with the primitive menC.associated with psychologyD.associated with the time of the day ( )5.The passage is about .A.color and traffic accidentsB.color and manufacturersC.which color might influence human feelingsD.why color affects human emotions and behaviorPassage 2Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage.Exchange a glance with someone ,and then look away .Do you realize that you have made a statement? Hold the glance for a second longer, and you have made a different statement .Hold it for three seconds, and the meaning has changed again. For every social situation ,there is permissible time that you can hold a person’s gaze without being intimate, rude,or aggressive. If you are on an elevater ,what gaze-time are you permitted? To answer this question ,consider what you typically do. You are very likely give other passengers a quick glance to size them up and to assure them that you mean no threat. Since being close to another person signals the possibility of interaction, you need to emit a signal telling others you want to be left alone. So you cut off eye contact ,which sociologist Erving Goffman(1963)calls―a dimming of thelights‖.you look down at the floor ,at the indicator lights, anywh ere but into another passenger’s eyes.Should you break the rule against staring at a stranger on an elevator ,you will make the other person exceedingly uncomfortable, and you are likely to feel a bit strange yourself. If you hold eye contact for more than three seconds, what are you telling another person? Much depends on the person and the situation. For instance,a man and a woman communicate interest in this manner. They typically gaze at each other for about three seconds at a tiome ,and then drop their eyes down for three seconds, before letting their eyes meet again .But if one man gives another man a three-second-plus stare,he signals—―I know you .‖―I am interested in you .‖or―You look peculiar and I am curious about you.‖This type of stare often produces hostile feelings.( )6.It can be inferred from the first paragraph that .A.every glance has its significanceB.staring at a person is an expression of interestC.a gaze longer than three seconds is un acceptableD.a glance conveys more meaning than words( )7.If you want to be left alone on an elevator ,the best thing to do isA.to look into another passenger’s eyesB.to aviod eye contact with nother passengersC.to signal you are nor a threat to anyoneD.to keep a distance from other passengers( )8.By ―adimming of the lights‖(Line9.para1).Erving Goffman means ―‖.A.c losing one’s eyesB.turning off the lightsC.ceasing to glance at othersD.reducing gaze-time to the minimum ( )9.If one is looked at by a stranger for too tong,he tends to feel .A.depressedB.curiousC.uneasyD.amused( )10.The passage mainly disusses .A.the limitations of eye contactB.the exchange of ideas through eye contactC.proper behavior in various situationsD.the role of eye contact in interpersonal communicationPassage3Questions 11 to 15 are based on the following passage.Cyclo-cross is a cross-country bicycle racing in open and usually quite rough country with riders often to dismount and carry their bicycles. The sport, originated early in the 20th century in France. was prevalent in the 1920s,but becaame promninent in the 1950s(the British Cyclo-Cross Association was founded in 1954).An original European sport ,cyclo-cross became popular throughout Western Europe and in the United States.World championships were initiated in1925; by1950 these were recognizede by the Union Cyclist International (International Cyclists’Union ).After 1967 amateur and professional classes were officially separated in competition. The 24-kilometer cyclo-cross,often involving taps ,is usually completed in 60minutes.A course typically includes obstacles such as ditches.mud ,fallen trees, streams, flight of stairs, fences, and gates;artificial hurdles are added to insufficiently challenging natural courses.Cyclo-cross races are usually held from September to March, adding winter weather hazards to the challenge. There is a massed start with the field assembling not more than two abreast. For Questions41-45, choose the most suitable one from the list A-G to fit into each of the numbered gaps. There are two extra choices, which you do not need to use in any of the blanks. On the north bank of the Ohio river sits Evansville, Ind., home of David Williams, 52, and of a riverboat casino (a place where gambling games are played). During several years of gambling in that casino, Williams, a state auditor earning $35,000 a year, lost approximately $175,000. He had never gambled before the casino sent him a coupon for $20 worth of gambling. He visited the casino, lost the $20 and left. On his second visit he lost $800. The casino issued to him, as a good customer, a "Fun Card", which when used in the casino earns points for meals and drinks, and enables the casino to track the user’s gambling activities. For Williams, those activities become what he calls "electronic heroin".(21) ________. In 1997 he lost $21,000 to one slot machine in two days. In March 1997 he lost $72,186. He sometimes played two slot machines at a time, all night, until the boat docked at 5 a.m., then went back aboard when the casino opened at 9 a.m. Now he is suing the casino, charging that it should have refused his patronage because it knew he was addicted. It did know he had a problem. In March 1998 a friend o f Williams’s got him involuntarily confined to a treatment center for addictions, and wrote to inform the casino of Williams’s gambling problem. The casino included a photo of Williams among those of banned gamblers, and wrote to him a ―cease admissions‖ l etter. Noting themedical/psychological nature of problem gambling behavior, the letter said that before being readmitted to the casino he would have to present medical/psychological information demonstrating that patronizing the casino would pose no threat to his safety or well-being.(22) ________.The Wall Street Journal reports that the casino has 24 signs warning: ―Enjoy the fun... and always bet with your head, not over it.‖ Every entrance ticket lists a toll-free number for counseling from the Indiana Department of Mental Health. Nevertheless, Williams’s suit charges that the casino, knowing he was ―helplessly addicted to gambling,‖ intentionally worked to ―lure‖ him to ―engage in conduct against his will.‖ Well.(23) ________.The fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders says ―pathological gambling‖ involves persistent, recurring and uncontrollable pursuit less of money than of thrill of taking risks in quest of a windfall.(24) ________. Pushed by science, or what claims to be science, society is reclassifying what once were considered character flaws or moral failings as personality disorders akin to physical disabilities.(25) ________.Forty-four states have lotteries, 29 have casinos, and most of these states are to varying degrees dependent on -- you might say addicted to -- revenues from wagering. And since the first Internet gambling site was created in 1995, competition for gamblers’ dollars has become intense. The Oct. 28 issue of Newsweek reported that 2 million gamblers patronize 1,800 virtual casinos every week. With $3.5 billion being lost on Internet wagers this year, gambling has passed pornography as the Web’s most profitable business.[A]、Although no such evidence was presented, the casino’s marketing department continued to pepper him with mailings. And he entered the casino and used his Fun Card without being detected.[B]、It is unclear what luring was required, given his compulsive behavior. And in what sense was his will operative?[C]、By the time he had lost $5,000 he said to himself that if he could get back to even, he would quit. One night he won $5,500, but he did not quit.[D]、Gambling has been a common feature of American life forever, but for a long time it was broadly considered a sin, or a social disease. Now it is a social policy: the most important and aggressive promoter of gambling in America is the government.[E]、David Williams’s suit should trouble this gambling nation. But don’t bet on it.[F]、It is worrisome that society is medicalizing more and more behavioral problems, often defining as addictions what earlier, sterner generations explained as weakness of will.[G]、The anonymous, lonely, undistracted nature of online gambling is especially conducive to compulsive behavior. But even if the government knew how to move against Internet gambling, what would be its grounds for doing so?SectionC Banked Cloze (从15个选项中选择10个,每空格1分,共10分) Directions:In this section ,there is a passage with ten blanks. To find out, they performed two learning experiments with children. The first experiment enlisted 30 kids, ages 10 and 11. Each child was given 20 problems in which a triangle or houselike shape was hidden inside a different, largerimage. The kids had to find the small shape while sitting in a room with either happy or sad classical music playing in the background. As a measure of mood, the scientists asked the kids to point to one of five faces, ranging from happy to sad. Children listening to the happy music tended to point to the smiling faces, indicating that they felt happy. Kids surrounded by sad tunes pointed instead to the frowns. The researchers found that sad kids took at least a second less to find the small shapes . The sad kids also correctly identified an averge of three or four more shapes. In the second experiment , 61children , ages 6 and 7 , faced the same type of shape-finding problems . Istead of listening to different types of music, though, they watched one of three scenes from a film. One scene was happy. One was neutral. One was sad.In this study ,kids’ moods tended to reflect the scene they had seen. And just like in the first experiment , kids who felt sad or neutral performed better on the tests compared to happier kids. They soloved an averge of two or three more problems. The researchers hypothesize(假设) that feeling down makes people more aware of details , perhaps becaues sadness makes us more more likely to focus on a problem or difficult situation. Some studies suggest that mildly sad adults do better than happy ones on tests of memory ,judgment and argument that involve attention to detail. Questions:56.Researchers from England wanted to find out the relationship between .57.What problems were kids asked to solve in both experiments ?58. In the first experiment ,kids point to one of five faces to .59 .The second experiment is different from the first in that .60.Why did sad kids perform better than the happy ones in the experiments?PartⅢTranslation(共30分)SectionA (共5小题,每小题3分,共15分)Directions:Complete the sentences by translating into English the Chinese given in brackets .Please write your translation on Answer Sheet 2注意:此部分试题请在答题卡2上作答,只需写出译文部分。
