Objectives of the course
• This course forms an introduction to the field of industrial organization: the economic analysis of firms, their interaction on markets and with regulatory agencies. At the heart of all of this is strategic interaction. It relies on the tools of game theory.
• At the end of the course, students will be expected to understand the basic principles of industrial organization, and to be able to develop independent, critical analyses of firms’ strategies and market interaction.
– Lecture Hours: 30 (Some time will be devoted to problem sets/presentation during the lectures.)
– Final Exam: 2
• Composition of the Final Grade
– Attendance and Participation: 5% – 2 problem sets: 15% – Short Essay Assignment (due 16/12) : 10% – Final Exam (Open-book): 70%
