Dr. Norman Bethune
Norman Bethune (March 3, 1890 – November 12,
1939), was born in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. He was a Canadian physician, medical innovator, a member of the Communist Party of Canada, and humanitarian. In Chinese, he is known as "Bai Qiu-en“. He is best known as a hero in the People's Republic of China and for his impact on Sino-Canadian relations. But he also gained a reputation in his native Canada as a gifted surgeon, an inventor, a political activist and an early proponent of a universal health care system.

Terry Fox, born on July 28, 1958, was an enthusiastic athlete.Terry was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer and forced to remove one of his legs in 1977.While in hospital,Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients,many of them are young children,that he decided to run acorss Canada to raise money for cancer reseach. He called his run the Marathon of Hope.
However,about half-way through his now wellpublicized journey of 143 days and 5,373 kilometers, the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his and ultimately cost him his life.
