Modern children play outdoors just half as
much as their parents did when they were young,
according to researchers.
Today’s teenagers prefer to stay indoors and
watch TV, play computer games and even do their
homework, than go outside to play. Numbers show
that, those growing up during the 1970s and 1980s
enjoyed more than two hours of outside play each
weekday, and even nine hours at weekends.
But today’s youngsters stay outdoors for just over an hour each weekday, and fewer than five hours on Saturdays and Sundays. It also shows that 44 percent of parents wish their children played outdoors more often, with 58 percent saying their children don’t play outside as much as they want.
