II. Reading strategy: skimming and scanning

1.What’s the general idea of the article?

Wei Hua, who studied in a British high school for one year, introduces a different school life in the UK, comparin g it with China and he feels satisfied with his time in the UK and hopes to go

there again.

◆Tips of skimming the text: we look at titles_, the first and last sentences of paragraphs and

the first and last paragraphs as well as pictures and charts, to guess what the text is about.

◆Tips of scanning the text: in order to find certain information in a text quickly, we scan it

for key words and phrases, dates, numbers and so on and don’t need to read it word by word.
