DESCRIPTION
The engine is cooled by the lorced circulation 01 engine coolant , using a high-capacity, centrilugal water pump , through water jackets lormed in the cylinder and cylinder head , and through the radiator. The tubeand-lin type radiator is made 01 aluminum , which is characterized by lightness in weight and good heat dissipation A wax-pellet type thermostat is used to regulate the llow 01 engine coolant through the radiator. As the coolant temperature rises to about 75 0 C (16rF) the thermostat valve unseats and a normal coolant llow is established . At about 90 0 C (194 0 F) the thermostat becomes completely open and , as a resu 1t, heat is released to the atmosphere through the radiator core Relerring to the following illustration , the thermostat is in the closed condition , so that eng ine coolant recirculates through the route comprising the water pump , engine , by-pass hole 01 the thermostat and radiator in the regu lated condition

At the time 01 manulacture , the cooling system is lilled with a 50:50 mixture 01 distilled water and ethylene glycol antilreeze This mixture will provide optimum corrosion and heat protection , and will protect the cooling system from Ireezing at above -31 0 C (-24 0 F) 1I the motorcycle is to be exposed to temperatures below -31 0 C (- 2 -1 0 F) , thc pcrccntagc of antifreeze shou ld be increased to 55% or 60% , according to figure 2 • The characteristics of different antifreeze vary; therefore , be ';UI" tu Wj" tlle speclfled antllreeze

with distilled water only. 00 not mix an alcohol based antifreeze or different brands of antilreeze. The percentage 01 antilreeze in the coolant should be between 50 to 60%. 1I the percentage 01 antifreeze is above or below this range the coolant's Irost protection and rust-inhibiting capabilities will be reduced.Alwa咱(S keep the antilreeze content abo内le50% even if the atmospheric temperature does not go bebw the freezing point.
