As is vividly depicted in the cartoon, a student, standing in front of the blackboard, is asked to work out the equat ion of “2+2”. To his teacher, he says, “I am going to need tech support”. It goes without saying that this picture aims at revealing a current phenomenon that the high-tech products exert a great impact on our education.
From my perspective, the technology, as a matter of fact, does
harm to our education. To begin with, although students in the 21st century are “digital natives”-数字原生代, they still need to acquire necessary skills to survive and thrive. For instance, the basic calculation skill, logical thinking ability and problem-solving ability are some of the essential skills, which students will rest on in their future career. In addition, as Hooper aptly pointed out, “Education purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one”. If students excessively depend on technology, such as computer, to do the tasks, their minds would be closed and the full development of their mental faculties would be hindered to a certain extent.
To sum up, technology is at best a plus in our education, not a must. We
should learn to solve problems by ourselves rather than over rely on technology. Otherwise, we will be deprived of the opportunity to be independent. It is my firm conviction that only in this way can we learn better and achieve remarkable academic results.
