I am Li Ming of Senior Three, Guangming Middle School. I am writing to tell you about some symptoms of anxiety among us students before exams.
Most of us feel nervous whenever we’re taking an important exam. Some will f eel dizzy or tired, some will suffer from lack of sleep, and some will lose their appetite. In fact, all these symptoms have terrible effects on our exams and we are all eager to get rid of them.
First of all, in my opinion, it’s important for us to have a right attitude towards exams. They are only a means of checking how we are getting along with our studies, so there is no need to worry too much about the results. What we should do is study hard every day and make careful plans before exams. Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to perform well in exams. Therefore, before exams, we should not stay up too late, which makes us unable to concentrate. Before going to bed, we can also try a warm bath or a cup of warm milk. They might help us to have a sound sleep.
(We’d better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercise before and during an exam so that we can keep ourselves relaxed and then concentrate ourselves on exams.)

Dear Peter,
I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well. Here are a few suggestions. First, it is important to take a Chinese course, as you’ll be able to learn from the teacher and practice with your fellow students. Then, it also helps to watch TV and read books, newspapers and magazines in Chinese whenever possible.Besides, it should be a good idea to learn and sing Chinese songs, because by doing so you’ll learn and remember Chinese words more easily. You can also make more Chinese friends. They will tell you a lot about China and help you learn Chinese.
Try and write me in Chinese next time.
Best wishes
Li Hua

Dear editor,
I am a middle school student. I feel bad to trouble you but I am afraid that I have to make a complaint about something around my school.
The reason for my dissatisfaction is that Every day I go to school I see many business men selling their vegetables, fish and meat round our school. Their shouts affect the students greatly. They make the street dirty. As a result, it gives off a terrible smell. I am writing to ask for your help. I hope something can be done to stop the serious situation.
Thank you.

Dear Editor,
I’m a middle school student named Wang Ping. Recently, we often have to buy presents for our classmates’ birthdays, and sometimes, we are invited to their birthday parties in expensive hotels, which caused us to think whether students should spend so much money for birthdays.
About this there are two different views. Some students think it provides us with a good chance to communicate with each other and develop our friendship, and besides, we can relax after hard work at school. However, some other students think it’s a waste of money and time and can lead us to getting into the bad habit of trying to keep up with the Joneses, which has a bad effect on our growth and studies.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s not easy for our parents to make money and keep us at school for education. So there is no need for us to do like that. We must treasure our parents’ labor and put our hearts into our studies.
Wha t do you think about it? I’m expecting your reply.
Y ours,
Wang Ping

Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we recently had about whether we should know our parents’ income.
We do have different opinions on this matter. Most of us(about 70%) think we should know our parents’ income since it will help us understand how hard our parents have to work, no matter how much they earn. Then we will study harder and will not waste money any more. We may also learn to share our parents’ t rouble.
About 30% of my classmates think it unnecessary to let the children know how much their parents earn. If they know their parents have enough money to support the family, they will not study hard since they needn’t worry about the future. It is said, especially when their parents have a higher income, the children will easily form a wasteful habit.
Yours,
Li Hua

This quotation from Winston Churchill tells us that we shouldn't get discouraged right after failures. Rather, we should keep trying with enthusiasm. Success consists in the ability to continue efforts through failures.
At the age of twelve, I got a nice bike as a birthday gift. So excited was I that I couldn't wait to try my hand at riding it. However, it was harder than expected. The bike seemed too heavy and difficult to control. Worse still, I took many falls off the bike. I was about to give up when my father came and encouraged me to keep going. With more practice, I did better and better. Looking back, I feel I wouldn't be able to ride a bike had I lost heart.
Actually, we can't succeed in everything we try. What's important is that we should stick at it.

Dear Jack,
I am very sorry that I didn’t go to your house to help you with your Chinese. It was on Sunday that my aunt visited my family all of a sudden. We hadn’t seen each other for more than ten years and we had so hot a talk that I forgot our 9 o’clock appointment.
So, in order to express my apologies, I’d like you to come to my house at 9:00 this coming Sunday. Will you please tell me if it is convenient to you? I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua。
