Chapter 1: General information

Fundamentals

The idea and purpose for this process is to establish product traceability throughout the

supply chain.

The advantage is in the individual traceability of the component.

In case of field failure there is the possibility to reduce the cost.

In case of recall individual products can be identified.

DMC must be resistant against the standard equipment and operation conditions which may arise in the supply chain.

This performance description regulates the identification of components (un/coated s/filters and canning) by means of machine-readable 2D Data Matrix Codes (DMC).

The standard is valid for parts as below:

For round parts

- more than 60mm length and more than 76mm diameter

- DPF / more than 118mm length and more than 133mm diameter

For non-round parts

- more than 60mm length and more than 106mm wide major axes

- DPF / more than118 mm length and more than144mm wide major axes

For all parts between 45mm and 60mm length

- more than 45mm length and less than 60mm length and more than 76mm diameter

The 2D Data Matrix ECC 200 with sufficient dots shall be used as the code maximum of 22*22 dots. Position and content of the code is standardized (see below).

The minimum dot size for s is 0.5 mm for manufacturer and coater.

Dot size for canning is TBD.

The minimum cell size for pin marked DMCs is between 0.5 and 0.7 mm for the canner. Responsibility for legibility is borne by the relevant supplier.

Validation and the hedging is carried out within the framework of canning release.

Furthermore the approval and quality regulations of the respective OEM`s will continue to apply.

All new products need to be checked in the supplier chain if they can be produced in accordance with this standard. In case of failure special arrangement need to be made.

Documentation of the component part-specific process data shall be ensured for a period of

15 years in internal databases.

Legibility

The DMC shall be machine-readable by means of suitable illumination throughout the entire supply chain. manufacturers / coaters.

DMC quality shall be verified as follows:

•Verification Requirements:

–DMC must score minimum overall grade of “D” or better under conditions specified by ISO 15415

–Category 2 scanning/verification environment per AIM DPM Annex B is

recommended.

•Lighting Conditions:

–Verification system will use a narrow band illumination source in the visible spectrum with a peak wavelength between 400 nm and 700 nm

–An appropriate “sharp cut” filter is recommended to use to mitigate the effects of ambient light on the verification system.

–The verification system is recommended to utilize at least one narrow band diffused illumination source with an illumination angle of, nominally, 45° above the mark being.

•Resolution and Contrast:

–The verification system must allow for a minimum image resolution of 6 pixels per cell module.

–The DMC must be verified at the optimum focal distance (e.g. in focus) for the chosen lens and aperture.

•Part Positioning:

–The verification standard assumes the part is held stationary with the DMC nominally positioned at 90±5 degrees relative to the imaging device.

Sample parts shall be made available to the participants for reading tests.

Rework procedures will be agreed upon in the supply chain.
