Flights have become an important type of transport in people’s lives. We can not imagine how we can go aboard without planes. For travelling, studying aboard or even meeting with our friends and families, flights are the best choice for us. However, flights with different purposes have not only two advantages but also some disadvantages.

For the advantages, one of them is convenience. Instead of travelling by ship or train to go aboard or even from city to another city within a country, flights save more time. For instance, people who travel to Shanghai from Beijing spend five hours on trains, but only two hours on planes. The longer the distances are, the bigger difference between times spent on planes and others will be. The other advantage is safety. According to research, planes are indeed the safest transport. The risk of having accidents on planes is much lower than cars, ships and trains.

In contrast, flights also have disadvantages. Firstly, it is easily affected by weather conditions. If weather is rainy, snowy or smoggy, planes can not take off. There are usually delays or cancellations on planes in the rainy season. Secondly it’s not comfortable for people to sit for a long time on planes except the first class. Spaces of aisles and among rows are very narrow.

In answer to the increasing price of oil, I think we should tax the planes more, even though airplanes’ tickets are alre ady expensive. The expensive price of tickets would limit the number of people travelling by plane, which may save some fossil fuels.

In conclusion, security and convenience are the advantages, whereas easy influenced by weather and uncomfortable environment are the drawbacks. If flights were taxed more in the future, there would be less people travelling by plane and it was benefical for oil company.
