• The Lower temple is in the southeast of the Upper temple. It is the main hall for preserving the Sutra where more than 18,000 Buddhist Sutra volumes and scripts are preserved. Compared to the splendid Upper Huayan, the Lower one is of a far more solemn appearance. Three Buddha sit on the Lotus Seat, two sides of them standing comely disciples. five finely carved wood-structured pavilions in the latter part of the hall are connected by arched bridges. These exquisite wood carved structures are the only remaining examples of their kind in China.

• Located in the southern side of Dong Street, is the Nine-Dragon Screen built for the Prince Hongwu, the 13th son of the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty (13681644 AD). It is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China and even before 350 years. It is three times larger than the one in Beihai Park, Beijing City.

Brief introduction of DaTong
• Datong is situated in the north of Shanxi Province，There are also abundant mineral resource of which the coal mine is the most famous which gives Datong the title Capital of Coal.
• The Upper Huayan Temple features with a rang of gorgeously decorated buildings, the biggest and most illustrious of which is the Grand Hall (Da Xiong Bao Dian), the main hall of the temple. Five Buddha sit up on the frontal of the hall, which are named Five-Direction Buddha civilized the five directions, east, west, south, north and mid in the world. The wall was draw large frescos, whose large scale are fare of it kinds in China. The ceiling of the hall, intricately decorated with a variety of color-murals of dragons and phoenix, floras, Sanskrit Buddhist symbols and other geometric patterns, creates a rich visual feast for the eye
• The age of grotto group of west part was slightly later and most of the grottoes were the work after the capital of Northern wei was moved to Luoyang. Yunggang Grottoes are well—known all over the world for their grand momentum, rich contents and exquisite carving. The fifth and sixth grottoes and wuhua cave are colorful in contents, majestic and magnificent. It is the essence of Yunggang art and also the artistic treasury wellknown in the world . In the year of 2001, yunggang grotto was listed in the world culture heritage by UNESCO.

HuaYan Temple
• Huanyan Temple, located in the southwest of Datong City, is one of the biggest temples in China built in Liao Dynasty. It got its name because it was and remains a major temple of the Huayan sect, a sub-category of the Buddhism popular in north China. • The Huayan Temple is divided into two parts: the Upper Huayan Temple and Lower Huayan Temple which have their own gate and architecture respectively. In 1963, the two separated temple combined a whole temple.
• Datong is an ancient city with a history of more than 2400 years. In history, Datong had a luminous past as the capital of the Northern Wei dynasty (383-534 AD). The city is endowed with rich cultural relics left from different periods like Yungang Grottos(云冈石窟), Huayan Temple(华严寺) Nine Dragon Wall(九龙壁),HangingTemple (悬空寺)and Great Wall
YunGang Grottoes
Yunggang Grottoes is located in the north cliff of Wuzhoushan Mountain in west suburb of Datong city. The grotto was excavated by depending on the mountain and stretches for 1000m from east to west. Now remain 45 grottoes and in the whole grotto group are more than 1100 big and small statues of Buddha, 252 big and small cavity niches and more than 51000 stone carved statues. The biggest statue of Buddha is up to 17m high and the smallest statue is only 2millimeters high

The Hanging Temple
• Suspension temple is located at the foot of Hengshan mountain on Xiyan cliff in Jinlong gorge, 5 km south of Hunyuan County Town. Since ancient time, here is always ranked as the first wonder of Hengshan Mountain which is one of the five lofty Mountains of China. • It is one of ancient grotto groups of largest scale and one of the 3 main grotto groups in our country. The whole grotto group is divided into 3 parts, i.e. east part, middle part and west part. In the grottoes of the east part are mainly Buddha pagodas, also called pagoda cave. The Tanyao five grottoes are the grotto group excavated earliest and of largest grandeur among Yunggang grottoes and was excavated in the period of Northern wei.
