Unit 3A: When you are afraid of something, what do you say?
Lesson 1: I'm scared of thunderstorms.
)
I'm scared of thunderstorms. Whenever there is a thunderstorm, I hide under my blanket and cover my ears. The loud thunder and bright lightning scare me. Sometimes, I even scream. I know it's silly, but I just can't help it. I wish I wasn't so scared.
Lesson 2: That movie was terrifying! That movie was terrifying! It was a horror movie about a haunted house. I watched it with my friends last night. The movie was so suspenseful and full of jump scares. I screamed so many times during the movie. Now I'm too scared to sleep. I keep imagining creepy things in my room. I'm never watching a horror movie again!
Lesson 3: Don't worry, it's just a spider.
)
Don't worry, it's just a spider. Are you arachnophobic? I understand that spiders can be scary, but they are harmless. They are more afraid of us than we are of them. If you see a spider in your room, just gently catch it and release it outside. Don't kill it, as spiders help control the population of other insects.
Lesson 4: I don't know why I'm so afraid of exams.
)
I don't know why I'm so afraid of exams. Every time an exam is approaching, my heart starts racing and my hands tremble. I fear that I will fail and disappoint my parents and teachers. I study hard and prepare well, but I still can't shake off the fear. I need to find a way to overcome my exam anxiety.
Lesson 5: Can you please turn on the lights?
Can you please turn on the lights? I'm afraid of the dark. Whenever it gets dark, I feel as if something is watching me. Shadows seem to come alive and scary thoughts fill my mind. Having lights on makes me feel safer. It's hard for me to sleep without some form of light, even if it's just a night light.
Lesson 6: My dog barks at everything!
My dog barks at everything! He's afraid of strangers, other dogs, and loud noises. Whenever someone comes to our house, he goes wild. He barks and growls, trying to protect us. It can be annoying sometimes, especially when he barks in the middle of the night. But deep down, I'm glad he's always looking out for us.
Lesson 7: I have stage fright.
)
I have stage fright. Whenever I have to perform in front of an
audience, I get extremely nervous. My hands sweat, my heart pounds, and my legs feel like jelly. I worry that I will forget my lines or make a mistake. It's frustrating because I love acting, but my fear holds me back. I need to build up my confidence and conquer my stage fright.
Lesson 8: What are you afraid of?
What are you afraid of? Everyone has their fears. Some people are afraid of heights, while others are afraid of spiders or snakes. It's okay to be afraid; it's a natural human emotion. The important thing is to face our fears and not let them control us. We can overcome our fears by taking small steps and gradually facing our fears head-on.。
