横扫僵尸英语作文
横扫僵尸英语作文Zombies. Everywhere. A horde of undead creatures roaming the streets, hungering for flesh. It's chaos. People running, screaming. Buildings burning. This isn't a nightmare; it's the apocalypse, right in front of our eyes. But hey, guess what? We're not cowering in fear. We're not backing down. We're grabbing whatever we can find –baseball bats, kitchen knives, even grandma's old frying pan – and we're fighting back. We're not going down without a fight. And let me tell you, we're kicking some serious zombie butt. It's like a scene straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster, but with more adrenaline and way less CGI. Every swing, every stab, it's a dance of survival. We're not just fighting for ourselves; we're fighting for humanity.Sure, it's messy. Blood splattering everywhere, gutsspilling out onto the pavement. But we're not squeamish. We're warriors, hardened by the chaos around us. We've seen things that would make most people puke, but we keep going. Because that's what heroes do.And you know what's the craziest part? We're winning. Slowly but surely, we're pushing back the horde. One zombie at a time, we're reclaiming our streets, our homes, our world. It's like a game of whack-a-mole, except the moles are flesh-eating monsters and the stakes couldn't be higher. So yeah, it's not easy. Every day is a battle, every night a struggle for survival. But we're not giving up.We're not going to let the zombies win. Because as long as there's a single breath left in our bodies, we'll keep swinging, keep fighting, keep... well, you get the idea.。

1Solving Really Hard Math Problems and WhyHi there! My name is Jamie and I'm in 5th grade. I used to really struggle with math and would get super frustrated whenever I couldn't solve a difficult problem. But over the past couple of years, I've learned some great tricks that have helped me a lot. I want to share them with you so you can get better at math too!The first thing to know is that it's totally normal to find math hard sometimes. I mean, we're basically learning a whole new language with all the numbers, symbols, and formulas. It can be really confusing and overwhelming, especially when the problems get really tricky. But don't worry, there are ways to make it easier! One of the most important things is to read the problem super carefully. Like, really read it slowly and make sure you understand exactly what it's asking you to do. Sometimes the questions are worded in a way that's kind of confusing, so youhave to decode it first. My teacher always says "If you can't understand the question, you'll never find the answer." So take your time and don't rush into solving until you know what you're supposed to be solving! After you understand the problem, my next tip is to look for any keywords or hints in the question. These can help point you in the right direction for what operation (like addition, subtraction, etc.) you'll need to use. Some examples of keywords are: "in total", "difference between", "product of", and "divide equally". Circling or underlining these can be really helpful. If you're still feeling stuck after reading the question carefully, it can be super useful to draw a picture or diagram. This helps make the problem easier to visualize, which is important because we all learn differently. Maybe you need to see the math problem instead of just reading it in words and numbers. Drawing can also help you spot patterns or relationships that might not be obvious at first.Another smart strategy is to start with what you know. Even if you can't solve the entire problem right away, see if you can make any progress by finding values for parts of it. Solving step-by-step is way better than just staring at a problem feeling completely lost. Break it down into smaller steps and focus onwhat you CAN do rather than getting hung up on what seems impossible. If you get a crazy hard problem that you truly can't figure out, don't be afraid to ask for help! That's what teachers, parents, older siblings, and classmates are there for. There's no shame in needing some guidance or an extra explanation, especially for really challenging stuff. The important thing is not giving up!I'll give you an example of how I used these tips to solve a recent problem I was stuck on:"Jessica is saving up to buy a new bike that costs 175. She has already saved 62 from doing chores and odd jobs. If she sets aside 5 per week from her weekly allowance, how many weeks will it take her to save up the remaining amount she needs?"First, I read through the whole question twice to make sure I understood what it was asking. It wants to know how many weeks it will take Jessica to save up the rest of the money for the bike. Then I looked for keywords and circled "remaining amount" to remind myself I need to first find out how much more money she still needs to save up.Since it was kind of hard for me to visualize and keep track of all the numbers, I drew a simple picture:basic复制175Bike Cost-62Already Saved______________________113Remaining to SaveSo I started with what I knew - Jessica had already saved 62, and she needs 175 total for the bike cost. Using subtraction, I could figure out that the remaining amount she needs is 175 - 62 = 113.Next, I needed to calculate how many weeks it would take her to save up 113 if she sets aside 5 per week from her allowance. For this part, I used the keyword "per week" to recognize that I needed to use division:113 remaining ÷ 5 per week = 22.6 weeksBut since we're talking about weeks and not money, I knew I had to round up to the next whole number. So the final answer is that it will take Jessica 23 weeks to save up the remaining amount she needs for the bike!I was really proud of myself for sticking through that problem and not just giving up. Using all the different tips like reading carefully, looking for hints, drawing a picture, and breaking it into steps, I was able to solve something that seemed super hard at first. The most important advice I can give is to never get discouraged if you get stuck on a math problem. It's happened to every single person who is good at math, I promise! The key is to keep practicing different strategies until one of them works to help you understand. Taking deep breaths and asking for help are always good ideas too.I really hope these tips make math easier and less frustrating for you. Just keep trying your best, and remember - we're all learning together! Let me know if you have any other questions.篇2Solving Hard Math Problems is No Biggie!Hi friends! Today I want to share some super tips on how to solve really hard math problems. Math can be tricky sometimes, but if you follow my advice, you'll be a math master in no time! The first and most important thing is to stay positive! When you see a math problem that looks like gibberish, don't get frustrated. Take a deep breath and tell yourself "I can do this!" Having confidence is key. If you get nervous and upset, your brain won't work as well.Next, you have to read the problem slowly and carefully. Read it over a few times if you need to. It's really important to understand exactly what the problem is asking you to do. Sometimes the wording can be confusing, so take your time. If there are words you don't know, ask your teacher or look them up.Once you understand the problem, my advice is to break it down into smaller steps. Big, complicated problems are way easier when you break them into little pieces. Work on one part at a time, and check each step as you go. That way, if you make a mistake, it's easier to find where you went wrong. When you get stuck, try drawing a picture or making a diagram. Seeing the problem visually can really help your brain understand what's going on. You can draw shapes, use arrows, or any little doodles that make sense to you. Sometimes I even assign characters or colors to represent different numbers. Get creative!Another trick is to look for patterns. Math has tons of patterns hiding everywhere. If you can spot a pattern, it might lead you to the solution. Things like consecutive numbers, common multiples, or geometric shapes can be huge clues. Don't ignore them!If you're still really struggling after all that, there's no shame in asking for help. Turn to your teacher, a parent, or even a classmate who understands. Having someonemology explain it in a new way can unstick your brain. Just don't let anyone fully do the work for you - that won't help you learn. While you're working, remember to double and triple check your work. Math mistakes are easy to make, but also easy to catch if you are careful. Reread the problem, redo the steps, and make sure your answer makes sense. When you finally solve that super hard problem, celebrate your success! Give yourself a high five or do a little happy dance. You earned it by staying calm and working through all the steps. That feeling of accomplishment is the best!I know math can be really frustrating sometimes. You might feel like giving up or crying. That's okay! Everyone gets flustered by math occasionally. The important thing is to not let it keep you down. Use all my tips and tricks, believe in yourself, and you'll get through any math challenge.Well, that's all the advice I have for now. Keep practicing and don't be afraid of math! You've got this! Thanks for reading, math buddies!篇3Solving Hard Math Problems and Why We ShouldHey friends! Today I want to talk about something that a lot of us struggle with - really hard math problems. You know, thosesuper tricky ones that make your brain hurt just looking at them? Well, I've got some tips to share on how to tackle those math monsters, and why it's so important that we try our best to solve them.First off, let's think about what makes a math problem "hard." Usually it's because there are lots of steps involved, or the numbers are really big, or there are funky symbols and shapes we've never seen before. Sometimes it feels like the problem is written in code or another language entirely! But here's the thing - every problem, no matter how crazy it looks, can be solved if we break it down into smaller pieces. My number one tip is to read the problem reeeeally slowly and carefully. Like, snail pace slow. Don't just skim it, because you might miss a key word or instruction that changes everything. After reading it, I always ask myself "What is this problem actually asking me to do?" Sometimes just identifying the main goal can be half the battle.Next, I look for any helpful info that's given, like numbers, shapes, or equations. I make a list or circle/underline that stuff so I don't forget about it later. Now I've got my game plan and materials ready to go.The hard part is figuring out what to do next! This is where having a bunch of math strategies in your toolkit really helps. Maybe the problem needs me to draw a diagram or make a table. Maybe I need to plug numbers into an equation, or do some mental math first to simplify things. The point is, I've got to get creative and try out different approaches until one of them works. Here's an example: let's say the problem is "Jessie had 18 apples. She gave 1/3 of them to her mom, 1/4 of them to her dad, and kept the rest for herself. How many apples did Jessie keep?" Sounds tricky, right? But we can break it down:Jessie started with 18 apples totalShe gave away 1/3 of 18 to momShe gave away 1/4 of 18 to dadSo how many did she have left?To solve this, I might:a) Convert 1/3 and 1/4 into their decimal forms to make the calculations easierb) Draw 18 apples and literally cross off or circle the amounts given to each parentc) Make a table showing the fractions and how many apples those representBy breaking it into steps and trying different strategies, what seemed impossible at first becomes doable. It's like a game - and solving it feels so rewarding! But why put in all this hard work, you might be wondering? Well, there are lots of great reasons to practice solving tough math problems:It trains your brain to think through issues logically and break things down into steps. This helps you become a better problem solver for any area of life! The more challenging problems you tackle, the more confident you'll feel taking on new math concepts. You're literally exercising your math muscles.Solving hard problems gives you an awesome sense of accomplishment when you finally get there. That feeling of "Yes, I did it!" is so motivating. The strategies you use for math can also help you in other subjects. Need to write an essay? You can break that down into steps too!Being a strong problem solver will help you so much in the future with jobs, budgeting, and any situation where you need to think critically.Of course, trying your hardest doesn't mean you'll get every problem right away. That's totally normal! The important thing is that you took it step-by-step, kept a positive attitude, and maybe even learned a new strategy along the way. When I get really frustrated with a problem, I remind myself that struggling is just part of the learning process. Math is like a gigantic puzzle, and each time we solve a piece, it leads us closer to the bigger picture. How cool is that?So next time you're staring down a super maze-y math problem, don't give up! Apply those reading comprehension skills, break it into chunks, and get creative with different strategies. You've got this! And pretty soon, those once "hard" problems won't seem so scary anymore. Keep putting in the hard work, and you'll be a master problem solver before you know it.篇4How to Solve Tricky Math ProblemsHi friends! Today I want to share some tips with you on how to solve really hard math problems. Math can be super tough sometimes, but if you follow these steps, you'll be a math ninja in no time!First things first, you have to have the right mindset. A lot of kids get frustrated when they can't figure out a math problem right away. But you can't give up that easily! The key is to stay positive and keep trying. Thomas Edison tried thousands of times before he invented the light bulb. If he had given up after just a few tries, we might still be sitting in the dark! So promise me you'll keep a positive attitude, even when math gets really hard. The next important step is to read篇5Solving Tough Math Problems Is No Big Deal!Hi there! My name is Billy and I'm in 5th grade. I used to really struggle with math and would get super frustrated whenever I couldn't figure out a problem. My palms would get all sweaty, my heart would start racing, and I'd feel like giving up. But then my awesome math teacher Mr. Robinson taught mesome neat tricks that have helped me a ton. Now math is one of my favorite subjects! Let me share Mr. Robinson's tips with you.Tip #1: Don't panic! When you see a math problem that looks crazy hard at first, the worst thing you can do is freak out. Take a deep breath and repeat after me: "I can do this!" Getting all anxious and worked up will just make it way harder to think clearly. Instead, have faith in yourself. You're smarter than you think!Tip #2: Read the problem slowly and carefully. I know it's really tempting to just start working right away, but that's a recipe for mistakes. Force yourself to slow down and read the entire problem twice if needed. Look for key words and numbers. Try to visualize what the problem is asking you to do. Build a clear picture in your mind before you put pencil to paper.Tip #3: Break it down into smaller steps. Some math problems have tons of parts and look overwhelming. But you know what's cool? You don't have to solve the entire thing all at once! Mr. Robinson says to break the problem down intobite-sized pieces you can handle. Do a little bit at a time and take it step-by-step.Tip #4: Draw pictures and diagrams. This one helps me so much! Since I'm a visual learner, drawing out the problem makesit a million times easier for me to understand. For example, if it's a word problem about fruits, I'll draw little apple and orange symbols. If it involves shapes, I'll sketch out those shapes. Pictures are my friend!Tip #5: Use objects to model the math. Sometimes it's hard for me to "see" a problem just by looking at the numbers and symbols. That's when Mr. Robinson tells me to get some blocks, pennies, or other objects and use them to act out the problem in real life. Modeling it physically clicking into place in my brain.Tip #6: Talk it out loud. Whenever I'm really stuck on a math problem, I start explaining it out loud, even if no one else is around. Just verbalizing each part of the problem helps me think through it better. Mr. Robinson says this activates a different part of my brain. Plus I can hear if my reasoning makes sense or not.Tip #7: Don't be afraid to ask for help. Look, there's no shame in needing some help sometimes with math. Everyone gets stuck - even genius math whizzes! So never hesitate to raise your hand and get clarity from your teacher. Or ask a parent, older sibling, or classmate to re-explain part you're having trouble with.Tip #8: Take breaks when you're feeling frustrated. Banging your head against a problem over and over when you're angryand upset is a bad idea. It's okay to step away for a little while if you're feeling really mad or overwhelmed. Go bounce a ball, pet your dog, or listen to music for 10 minutes to reset your brain. Then you can attack the problem again feeling refreshed.Tip #9: Double check your work. After you've solved the math problem, Mr. Robinson's golden rule is to always re-check your work. It's so easy to make a silly mistake, especially if you rushed through the problem. Go back through step-by-step and make sure your work and answer make sense.Tip #10: Celebrate yourmath victories! Even little wins deserve to be celebrated when it comes to math. If you successfully solved a problem that had you stuck, give yourself a big pat on the back! You can do a happy dance, high five a friend, or treat yourself to a small snack. Feeling good about your math progress will motivate you to keep pushing yourself. So those are Mr. Robinson's top tips for becoming a math problem-solving superstar! I really hope they work as well for you as they have for me. Remember, math is challenging for everyone at times. But if you stay calm, use the right strategies, and never give up, you can conquer any crazy math problem that comes your way. Just believe in your awesome brain!篇6Solving Tough Math Problems Can Be Super Fun!Hi friends! Have you ever felt stuck on a really hard math problem? Like, you look at all the numbers and symbols and your brain just freezes up? Don't worry, that happens to me too sometimes. But I've learned some awesome tips that can help make those frustrating math questions a lot easier. Want to hear my secrets? The first thing to remember is to never give up! I know math can feel like a huge mountain you can't climb over. But I promise, if you keep trying and use some smart strategies, you can conquer any math monster that comes your way. Struggling is just part of the journey to becoming a math master!Okay, so let's talk strategies. One of my favorites is to break the problem down into smaller pieces. Sometimes those long math sentences with tons of numbers and operations can make your head spin. But if you take it step-by-step, it becomes way more manageable. Read through the full problem once to understand what it's asking. Then go back and tackle just the first part. Do that step, then move to the next little piece. Take your time and don't rush!Another tip is to draw pictures or diagrams to help visualize what's happening in the problem. Maybe you could sketch out a number line or a simple shape to represent the math scenario. Having a picture in front of you can sometimes make those numbers and symbols way easier to wrap your brain around. Get creative with your drawings too - the sillier, the better in my opinion!Speaking of getting creative, you can also try making up a fun story in your mind about the math problem. Putting it into the context of a silly tale might just spark some new insights. Like if it's asking about splitting up a bunch of apples, you could imagine those apples are actually magic teleporting apples that need to be shared between two clans of silly aliens. See how much more entertaining math becomes? Here's another smart idea: look for patterns and relationships between the numbers. Maybe you notice that certain digits keep popping up in a particular order. Or there's a number that's double or half of another number in the problem. Identifying those connections can provide major clues to cracking the code. When you get really stuck on a problem, my favorite thing to do is grab a friend or family member for an extra brain! Twoheads are always better than one when it comes to math mysteries. You could take turns talking through your thought process and seeing if the other person can spot anything you're missing. Or one person could randomly guess creative solutions while the other evaluates whether they make sense. Math definitely doesn't have to be a solo struggle! Finally, and this is extremely important - don't be afraid to ask your teacher for guidance if you're feeling completely lost. That's what they're there for! They can walk through the problem with you, point out any mistakes you're making, and explain the concepts in new ways to help you understand. The only wrong thing is not asking for help when you need it.I hope these tips give you a bunch of new strategies to try next time a math nightmare has you feeling spooked. Remember, a positive attitude is half the battle. If you approach each problem with confidence, creativity, and a willingness to keep trying new solutions, those numbers have no chance against you! Math is like a puzzle, and who doesn't love puzzles? So take a deep breath, grab those defying digits, and let's get solving! You've totally got this!。

It's not because of a war or a natural disaster. No, it's because of zombies. Yes, you heard me right. Zombies. These undead creatures are roaming the streets, looking for their next meal. And guess what? Their next meal is us.The outbreak started in a small town in the middle of nowhere. No one knows how it started, but it spread like wildfire. People were getting bitten left and right, and before we knew it, the whole world was infested with these flesh-eating monsters.I never thought I'd see the day when I had to fight for my life against hordes of zombies. It's like something out of a movie, except it's real. Every day is a struggle to survive. You can't let your guard down for a second, oryou'll end up as zombie chow. But it's not just the zombies we have to worry about. It's the lack of resources. Food and water are scarce, and the world has become a battleground for the living and the undead. It's every man for himself out here.I've seen things that would haunt me for the rest of my life. Friends and family turned into zombies, and I had to put them down. It's a cruel world we live in now, andthere's no room for sentimentality. But despite all the hardships, there's still a glimmer of hope. There are pockets of survivors out there, fighting to take back the world from the zombies. We may be outnumbered, but we're not going down without a fight. So if you're out there reading this, know that you're not alone. We may be living in a biohazard nightmare, but as long as there are people willing to stand up and fight, there's still a chance for humanity to survive.。
Mr.Good_大学英语作文
Mr. GoodI could鈥檝e kicked myself for chasing a woman bass player all the way to Cincinnati: a month after I got there, I left her for a twenty-three-year-old grocery clerk. A few weeks later that was over, too, and I didn鈥檛 even have money for a bus ticket back to Dallas. I hadn鈥檛 been able to find a gig since I鈥檇 moved.I tried finding work in a music store, and then started applying anywhere and everywhere鈥攆ast food, motels, convenience stores鈥攁nd finally to stay out of a homeless shelter I had to pawn the only one of my guitars worth much, a 1965 Gibson Hummingbird. I stayed drunk for two days. Then I started working day labor so I could get it back. I was mixing mortar and carrying bricks, which I hated because it messed with my hands. The second week I smashed a thumbnail.Everyday I went to the pawnshop to make sure the guitar was still there. The owner looked like a vaguely degenerate antique dealer in a movie. He wore a vest.Every morning I got up at five and made the half-hour walk to the temp service, a trailer set up in a gravel lot. The place looked like a used car dealership without any cars and the owner was a big thick guy named Purcell who was quick to let you know he was retired Navy. The whole set up was pretty shady. Pay was always in cash and you had to get there before dawn to get a job. Except for me the crowd was all Mexican, illegals I鈥檓pretty sure. They stayed to themselves, so I鈥檇 stand alone while we waited for Purcell to show up and smoke and drink coffee and think about how I was going to smash the guitar over a low brick wall once I got it back. My father gave it to me when I was eighteen. One afternoon, 1979, when my high school let out hewas in the parking lot sitting on the hood of an old Lincoln he鈥檇 parked sideways across five spaces. You couldn鈥檛 miss him any way you looked. He was dressed in the same outfit Hank Williams was buried in. I hadn鈥檛heard from him for seven years.I told my friends I was supposed to meet with a teacher and went back inside and hid in the bathroom鈥擨 figured if I waited long enough he鈥檇 leave. The janitor ran me out of there so I wouldn鈥檛 interfere with his drinking. I killed some time walking the halls, then fooling at my locker. Finally the assistant principal who was locking up made me leave. He was still outside. It was deserted now. He smiled and waved."Thought that was you I saw," he said. "Figured I鈥檇 wait."I nodded. I didn鈥檛 know what to say."I hear you鈥檙 e getting ready to be a high school graduate," he said.I nodded again."That鈥檚 real good." He cocked his head, looking at me and smiling. "Your grandma don鈥檛 mind your hair being that long?""She hasn鈥檛 said anything.""First time I came in with a duck tail she chased me with the scissors." He took a pack of cigarettes from his inside coat pocket and rapped it on his knee and a single cigarette jumped halfway out, and if he hadn鈥檛 been my father that would鈥檝e been cool as hell.He wanted to go get a hamburger. The inside of the Lincoln smelled like a strip club at six AM. The radio was missing. I reminded him how to get to McKenna鈥檚, a place that had curb service. After we got our drinks he poured part of his Coke outthe window and filled it back up from a pint of bourbon he pulled from under the seat. He offered me the bottle but I shook my head."Don鈥檛 drink?" he asked.I shrugged. He nodded. "Don鈥檛 seem to talk, either."After seven years that crawled all over me. I turned away and stared out my window."Ah son," he said, "I know, I know. I . . . well," and then I heard his cup slosh. I was looking out at a station wagon where a woman was handing around soft serve cones to her kids. A little boy in the backseat was looking back at me."Your grandma tells me you鈥檙e playing now," he said."Yeah." I still didn鈥檛 look at him."What鈥檙e you doing?"I was in a bad cover band that played sock hops and dances at country clubs. I鈥檇been listening to Earl Klugh and Wes Montgomery, too, trying some of that out."Not much," I said. The boy pulled his nose up with his thumb and grinned. He had braces. His mother had on a green scarf."I guess you don鈥檛 go in for Bob Wills and such," he said."No," I said."Not many do anymore," he said. "That鈥檚 why this car鈥檚 such a piece of shit."Then neither of us said anything. A long minute passed, then another. The little boy kept making faces between licks of his cone. Then the mother caught him. After a glance at me, she jerked him around by the collar.I heard him splash bourbon into his cup again. Then the car hop brought the tray with the food and hung it on his window and I felt like I could finally turn around."Anything else?" she asked. She was bleach blond and pudgy 鈥擨 recognized her from school a couple years back but didn鈥檛 know her. She had on white jeans and a pink shirt with the tails tied into a knot below her breasts. When you looked at her all you saw was stomach."You all got any ice cream left in there?" he said."Sure," she said."Then get you one and charge it on my ticket. Girl who looks sweet as cake needs some ice cream to go with her."She giggled."Or maybe you want a drink of this special Co鈥?Cola instead?" he asked. She leered, looked left and then right. "Sure," she said. He handed her the cup and she ducked her head and took a drink."When they let you off here?" he said."Not soon enough," she said. "The horse鈥檚 ass that runs the place keeps us here half the night.""Well, we鈥檙e big boys," he said. "We get to stay up late."I opened my door and got out. He looked around. "Hey, where you going?"I shut the door. My eyes met the girl鈥檚 over the roof of the car, then I ducked my head in the window. "I鈥檝e got to go," I said. "I鈥檒l see you," and I started away from the car."Hey!" he yelled. But I didn鈥檛 turn around. He yelled a couple more times but I kept going. When I was far enough away I looked back. The girl was still standing at the Lincoln.I was hoping he鈥檇 be waiting outside the house when Igot home. He wasn鈥檛.A week later a notice came from Martin鈥檚 Drugs saying I had a Trailways package. It was a cardboard box wrapped in brown butcher鈥檚 paper and tied with string, light to carry but about the size of Shakespeare鈥檚coffin. When I got it home and opened it I found a new calfskin guitar case packed in newspaper and inside that was the Hummingbird. The guitar was in good shape, but the words Mr Good were scratched in tall letters on the back of the body. In the bottom of the case was a note:SonI wont you to have this a fine instrumint i bought it new in 1965. Maybe somday we can play together i can teech you some Bob wills. The only thing about it is i got no idee how the writing got on the back i woke up in a motel in oddessa tex 8 yeer ago and it was almost nite and their it was this is stil a good guitar.DadI hadn鈥檛 heard from him since. If he was alive he鈥檇 be sixty-three, and the older I got the more I wished I could see him. We鈥檇 have something to talk about now that I鈥檇 made every mistake he had.Once I was living with a psychologist and she started ribbing me after she saw how I took such good care of the Gibson. Better take Mr. Good to soccer practice, she鈥檇 say, or Mr. Good says he wants to order Chinese. If she hadn鈥檛 been so good-looking I wouldn鈥檛 have put up with her鈥攕he鈥檇 come home after counseling all day and make astrology charts on her clients and smoke pot. She finally drank enough coffee one morning to think to ask how I got the guitar. I told her the story about my dad."That鈥檚 cute," she said.I just stared at her."What is it?" she said.I shook my head."No, what is it?" she asked, almost hysterical."Nothing," I said. "Just looking at your hair."* * *It was cold. I was in Purcell鈥檚 lot, smoking, drinking coffee, half-listening to the Spanish talk all around me. I had seven hundred dollars in my socks鈥攁fter getting paid today I鈥檇have enough to get the Gibson back, and after Monday and Tuesday I鈥檇have enough to go back to Dallas鈥攁nd then suddenly an angry shout came from behind the trailer, then another. The lot quickly fell silent. Then the Spanish started up again and most of the men walked over and looked behind the trailer but as soon they did they started leaving, some running, and in about two minutes the place was deserted except for me.I kept watching the trailer, about fifteen yards away. Nothing.I couldn鈥檛 hear anything either but the hum of the arc lights. I didn鈥檛 know what to do. I was kind of scared, but I had to try to work that day, no matter what, so I decided to stay where I was and wait for Purcell to show up. I started to light another cigarette, then footsteps sounded on the gravel and a man staggered around the side of the trailer. He was clutching his side and when he saw me he said something in Spanish. He was big, at least three hundred pounds, and looked like a bear coming toward me. Then he just stopped and stood there. I could hear his breathing. He sank to his knees like a camel sitting down and fell over. For about a hundred and fifty dollars I would鈥檝e left. But there weren鈥檛 any philanthropists in the vicinity. I went over tohim. He had rolled onto his back and when he saw me standing over him he started talking in Spanish. He had a rip in the side of his thin jacket and there were dark stains around it. I took off my denim coat and kneeled down, and when he saw what I was doing he moved his hands and let me use the coat as a compress. Some warm blood soaked into the denim, but not much. He seemed more panicked than anything. He just kept on jabbering. Then I heard other voices. Two Mexicans were standing a few yards away, at the edge of the light."Habla ingles?" I called out."No much, no much," the taller of the two said.I got him to hold the jacket in place and right away he and the injured man started talking, arguing it sounded like. I ran the three blocks to the store where I made a point of buying my coffee every morning because I liked the way the clerk looked. I asked her to call 911."Sorry, the phone鈥檚 not public," she said."Are you kidding?" I said. She shook her head. "That鈥檚 the rule.""But a guy鈥檚 been knifed or something."She hesitated, then looked at her watch, a pink thing the size of a coaster. "My manager鈥檚 due here any minute now and he says you can鈥檛 let the phone thing get started or people鈥檒l be asking to use it all the time." She looked over my shoulder. "Could you move, please?"I stepped over but stayed at the counter and an old black guy in a baseball cap moved up and gave her numbers for a lottery ticket."So you鈥檙e not going to call?" I said."No," she said.I went outside and picked up the receiver on the pay phone on the side of the building and put it to my ear even though I knew it was dead. I asked two people going into the store if they had cell phones鈥攂oth shook their heads, though one had his in a holster on his belt. Then I ran back to the temp service because there wasn鈥檛 another payphone nearby and I didn鈥檛 know what else to do.Purcell was there. He had his headlights directed onto the scene and he stood in their beams next to the injured man and the two Mexicans who were squatting over him. The shorter one, who I could now see was an older man, was crying."I can鈥檛 have this kind of helling going on here," Purcell was saying."Mr. Purcell," I said.He jerked his head around and squinted into the headlights. "Hey, who鈥檚 there?" He recognized me. "So did you see what happened here?""No. I just tried to call an ambulance but I couldn鈥檛 find a phone."He waved like he was shooing a fly. "I checked him, he doesn 鈥檛 need one. It鈥檇 be a waste of the taxpayers鈥?money. All he鈥檚 got is a little lard sliced off." Then he put his hands on his hips and stared down at the man. He had on a white short sleeve shirt and a dark tie; I had never seen him in a coat, no matter the temperature. "Hey," he said loudly and all three Mexicans looked up at him and he spoke to them in broken Spanish. The tall one holding my jacket answered.According to Purcell鈥檚 translation: the two Mexicans who had stayed were from the same town in Mexico as the injured man, and the older one was his uncle or cousin or something. Two days ago the tall Mexican had heard that the injured man鈥攚ho looked at least thirty鈥攈ad gotten someone鈥檚 teenage daughter pregnant. The tall Mexican wasn鈥檛 sure who the girl was, but he鈥檇 heard there鈥檇 been a blow up with her father."I didn鈥檛 think there was anybody left who cared about that," Purcell said. He took out a pack of Juicy Fruit and put a stick in his mouth. He stared down at the man, his face a brown study.I crossed my arms and hugged myself. I was freezing."This has implications," Purcell said."We should probably call an ambulance," I said."We might do that," he said. "But we鈥檝e got to move him off this property first."I didn鈥檛 say anything, but Purcell jerked his head around like I had."Just because this pussel-gut decides to tap some Mexican cheerleader, I should have to pay double and triple on my liability insurance? And as for the police," he said, "what鈥檇 you think: Columbo鈥檚 gonna show up here at dawn?" He pulled a wallet-on-a-chain out of his back pocket and started speaking Spanish again. When he finished all three Mexicans nodded. The old one wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. Then Purcell took out two fifty-dollar bills and handed one to each of the two squatting men. They both spoke to the injured man, patted him on the shoulder, then stood up and left. Purcell bent over the injured man and slipped two bills into his pants pocket. He spoke to him and the man answered. Purcell replied, his voice angry. The man shook his head back and forth on the ground. Purcell started cursing in English. He turned to me, "Sack of shit says he can鈥檛 get up.""Huh," I said.Purcell gave the man a little kick in the hip and said something in Spanish. Then he grabbed the man鈥檚 arm and tried to haul him up. He didn鈥檛 budge. He was dead weight. Purcell dropped his arm. "All right," he said, "you get his shoulders and I鈥檒l get his legs," and he stepped around the man to his feet. I didn鈥檛 move.He waved. "Come on, let鈥檚 go.""That鈥檚 my coat there," I pointed."Yeah? So?" he said."It鈥檚 ruined," I said. His expression deadened as he figured it out, which took about two seconds. He shook his head and cursed again. He took out his wallet and handed over a fifty."I need a hundred more," I said.If either of us had been smoking the whole block would鈥檝e exploded. "Listen," he said, "I wouldn鈥檛 be paying anybody anything if I could speak enough Spanish to make these tacos understand if they don鈥檛 do what I say I鈥檒l tell the police whatever I want. But even though you鈥檙e a goddamn briar you understand me, don鈥檛 you?""The police might hassle me on your sayso," I said, "but that 鈥檚 about all they could do. And think about it. If I do end up talking to them, I鈥檓 such a briar I might let it slip how you run a straight cash business."He turned his back to me and started muttering. He stayed that way at least a half-minute. Then he turned back around holding out five twenties. His mouth was very tight.Lifting the man was like picking up one end of a rowboat full of water, if you鈥檝e ever done that. We carried him ten yards, rested, then went the last ten yards to the street. Purcell droppedthe man鈥檚feet and stayed bent over with his hands on his knees, huffing and puffing. He glanced up at me, then unhooked his key ring from his belt and tossed it and it hit the sidewalk right in front of me and I had to do a skip to keep it from hitting my feet. "Move my car up to the trailer," he said.I looked at the keys, then at him. "What?" I said."Do it, or I鈥檒l tell the cops you robbed me." He took his cell phone out of his back pocket."Why do you want me to do it?" I said."Just because I do," he said."Forget you," I said."All right," he said and punched a button on the phone, and that鈥檚 when I thought of the seven hundred dollars in my socks and how great it would look on a guy without a coat. The car was a Cadillac in name only. The last time it looked good Eddie Murphy was funny. I slid under the wheel, but didn 鈥檛 close the door so the rooflight would stay on and I could find things. The seat was too far up for me to fit my feet to the pedals, so I reached down to find the lever and my hand hit a bottle under the seat. It was a half-pint of Jack Daniels and all that was empty was the neck. I unscrewed the cap, bent over like I鈥檇 dropped the keys and took a drink, then sat up again. The glove box was missing its door, a cigar with an inch of dead ash was in the ashtray, a single porno playing card was in the passenger seat, a woman who looked like she was waiting for surgery to begin. I turned the card over: seven of clubs. I bent over and took another drink. I was thinking of the last time I saw my father鈥攐ne of these old boats always did that.I discovered the seat wouldn鈥檛 move, so I managed to get situated with my legs splayed out on either side of the steeringwheel. I shut the door, then pulled the car up in front of the trailer and cut the engine and the lights. I stuck the half-pint down the front of my pants. Then I looked in the rearview mirror: Purcell was still at the curb, under a streetlight, standing over the injured man talking and gesturing. It looked like he was haranguing a corpse.I leaned over to get at my pants pocket and took out the hundred and fifty and put it on the dash behind the steering wheel. I just couldn鈥檛abide the idea of having to think of Purcell everytime I played the Gibson. I would鈥檝e rather seen it in the hands of Campfire Girls. The pawn shop opened a half-hour before the liquor stores. I鈥檇 been waiting in a coffee shop across the street. I had the Gibson鈥檚 empty calfskin case and a Epiphone in its case. I was going to pawn the Epi which would give me the last fifty I needed to get the Gibson back, plus another sixty or seventy. That much would get me to Shreveport, and I figured I knew enough people in Dallas I could find someone who鈥檇 drive out and get me.I went in the pawn shop, the bell ringing over my head, and right away I noticed the Gibson wasn鈥檛 on its stand in the line of guitars that sat on a high shelf in the back. Holding the two cases I suddenly felt like an idiot in a Norman Rockwell painting. The empty one felt light enough to throw through the display window. The owner was still wearing his pea coat and was at the back of the long shotgun room behind a line of jewelry cases to my left. He came up front."It鈥檚 gone," he said. "Girl bought it last night not long after you came in."I set down the guitar cases."She paid cash so I don鈥檛 know who she was," he said.I asked him what she looked like."I wouldn鈥檛kick her out of bed for eating crackers," he said.I kept looking at him. I couldn鈥檛 believe he had said that. Then he gave a police blotter description of the girl鈥攜oung, long brown hair, skinny, pale, wearing jeans and a green jacket, said he wouldn鈥檛call her pretty exactly. I asked him, if she came back in, to give her my name and the place where I roomed and to tell her I鈥檇 pay to get the Gibson back. I said I鈥檇 pay him, too, for doing that."Once I tell her, you got no reason to pay me," he said."That鈥檚 true," I said."A twenty ought to take care of it," he said.I felt so beat I didn鈥檛 argue. I squatted down and lifted my pants leg to get at my sock. The bell rang and a guy in a dirty overcoat and came in and set down a kit bag and started pulling out barber tools. I stood up and the owner took my twenty. I picked up my guitar cases and left.Walking down the street, freezing, I realized I could take the money I had and buy a coat and a bus ticket and be back in Dallas by midnight or I could stay in Cincinnati and buy a coat and try to find the Gibson. I thought about it three seconds and decided to stay.I can play guitar pretty well. And I鈥檝e spent twenty years worth of afternoons in libraries killing time before gigs so I know the difference between Augustine of Hippo and all the other Augustines and I know that even if we do come up with a unified field theory it isn鈥檛 going to change a damn thing. But other than that, I wouldn鈥檛 take my own advice about anything.。

五年级英语作文我繁忙的一天Title: My Busy DayHey there, friends! Do you know what? I had a super busy day yesterday, and I just want to share it with you. It was like a rollercoaster ride, full of ups and downs, but in the end, it was all worth it!It started with an early morning alarm. You know how it is, right? That annoying sound that makes you jump out of bed even when you're dreaming of sweet candies. Well, I did that, and guess what? My dog, Buddy, was already waiting for me, wagging his tail, as if saying, "Let's go, sleepyhead!"School was the first stop, and it was a whirlwind of activities. Math class was tricky, but I solved a really hard problem, and my teacher gave me a thumbs-up. It felt like winning a small battle, you know? Then, during lunch, I helped my friend, Lily, who had forgotten her lunchbox. We shared my sandwiches, and it tasted even better because we were laughing together. After school, the real adventure began. I had soccer practice, and oh boy, was I running like the wind! The coach said I made some great saves, and that felt like scoring a touchdown in a football game. My legs were tired, but my heart was pumping with joy. Finally, when I thought the day couldn't get busier, Mom told me we were having a family game night. We played charades, and you won't believe it, I acted out "eating spaghetti" and everyone laughed so hard. It was the perfect ending to my busy day.So, that was my day –full of surprises, challenges, and lots of laughter. I was tired but happy, knowing every moment was special. Being busy is fun, especially when you're doing things you love with people you love. What about you? Do you have busy days like this too? Last summer, Hilda worked as a volunteer with dolphin trainers at a sea life park. Her job was to make sure the tanks were free of any items so that the trainers could train the dolphins to fetch specific items. However, one day after cleaning, one of the dolphins, Maya, presented Hilda with a candy wrapper from the tank. When Katherine, the trainer, saw this, she blamed Hilda for her carelessness. Upset but not discouraged by this event, Hilda decided to do some spying on Maya. The next morning, Hilda arrived at the park early. She put on her scuba gear (水下呼吸器) and jumped into the tank for her usual, underwater sweep. Finding nothing in the tank, she climbed out of the water just in time to see Katherine jumping in on the other side. After what happened yesterday, Hilda knew what she was doing. She watched as Katherine performed her underwater search, but Hilda wasn’t surprised when she surfaced empty-handed.During the tank sweeps, Maya had been swimming playfully, but now the dolphin stopped suddenly and swam to the back part of the tank where the filter (过滤) box was located. She stuck her nose down behind the box and then swam away. What was Maya doing back there? Hilda wondered. She jumped back into the water and swam over to take a look behind the box, and her question was answered. Hilda then swam across the tank following Maya’s path and emergedfrom the water to find Katherine removing her scuba gear. As Katherine turned around, her mouth dropped open. There was Maya at the edge of the tank with a comb (梳子) in her mouth waiting for her treat.“Maya! Where did you get that?”demanded Katherine, taking the comb and throwing her a fish. “I know where she got it,” declared Hilda climbing out of the tank with a handful of items still wet from their watery, resting place. “What’s all this?” Katherine asked, obviously confused.注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought. That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car. Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a bigsmile on his face. "We made it," he said.Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
八年级运动会英语作文80词左右
八年级运动会英语作文80词左右全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Biggest Day of the YearWow, what a day! The annual sports day at our school is always the biggest event of the year, and this one did not disappoint. I've been looking forward to it for months and months. Finally, the day arrived with beautiful sunny skies and a gentle breeze - perfect weather for a huge outdoor competition. The whole school was buzzing with excitement from the moment we arrived. You could feel the energy and anticipation in the air. The loudspeakers were blasting our school's fight song as everyone hustled to get to their assigned areas and get ready for the first events. The grounds crew had been working for weeks to prepare the fields, tracks, and courts for all the different sports. Everything looked perfect. My event, the 800 meter run, wasn't until later in the afternoon. So I had plenty of time to watch and cheer on my classmates in the earlier competitions. It's always so inspiring to see how hard everyone trains and how much effort they put inon sports day. The level of ability and determination is really impressive. The morning started with track and field events like long jump, high jump, discus, and shot put. Our school has some incredibly talented athletes. Annika, one of the girls in my class, shattered the school record in the discus throw! The rest of us went wild cheering for her. Such an amazing accomplishment. After the field events, it was time for the running competitions to begin. The 100m sprint is always one of the most exciting races. The sprinters are just incredible. They explode out of the blocks and seem to glide across the track in a blur of speed and power. My friend Liam competed in that event and gave it his absolute all like he always does. He didn't win, but we're all so proud of his effort. There was a short break for lunch where we all regrouped, refueled, and psyched each other up for the afternoon events. I had worked up quite an appetite from all the morning excitement, so I really stuffed myself. Maybe a little too much looking back! The afternoon is when the bigger team sports happened - basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more. The team spirit and camaraderie was beautiful to witness. Everyone pulled together, supported each other, and fought hard for their squads. Win or lose, you could see the unity and friendship on every team. Finally, it was time for my event - the 800 meter run. My heart was pounding out of my chest as I lined up at the starting line. I had trained so hard all year for this moment. When the starting gun went off, I dug in with everything I had. I could feel the burn in my legs and lungs, but I kept pushing forward, slowly passing runners in front of me. I ended up finishing 3rd, which I was over the moon about! All that hard work had paid off.As the day came to a close, we congregated together as a school one last time for the award ceremony. The winning athletes and teams got their medals and trophies as we cheered them on. But win or lose, we were all winners on this special day just for having the chance to compete, push ourselves, and be part of something bigger. It's a day I'll never forget!Sports day is the ultimate celebration of athletic achievement, perseverance, friendship, and school spirit. I already can't wait for next year's event. Maybe I'll win that 800m next time!篇2The School Sports Day ExtravaganzaWow, what a day it was! The annual school sports day is always the highlight of the year for me. From the moment I wake up, I'm buzzing with excitement and anticipation for all the fun activities and competitions. This year didn't disappoint one bit. The day started with a huge parade where all the students marched behind their class banners and team flags. The school band played upbeat music to get everyone pumped up. I was on the yellow team, so I had a big yellow shirt on and was waving one of those inflatable stick things to cheer. After the parade, it was time for the opening ceremony speeches. Our principal, Mr. Jennings, gave a nice talk about sportsmanship and having fun. Then the team captains did a cheer-off, and I thought our yellow team cheer was the loudest and best. We were definitely the most hyped up!With the ceremonies done, it was finally time for the events to start. The first thing up was the classic tug-of-war battle. Our yellow squad took on the green team first. I was one of the pullers, digging my feet into the muddy ground and hauling with all my might. It was such a tight match, with both sides getting dragged back and forth through the mud pit. In the end, yellow team power triumphed! We let out a huge roar of celebration.Next up were the track and field events like sprints, relays, and long jump. I'm not the fastest runner, but I gave it my all in the 400 meter race. I was huffing and puffing by the end, but so proud of myself for finishing. My buddy Marcus was incredible though, setting a new school record in the 100m dash. What a speedster! The games and competitions just kept rolling all morning long. There were sack races, three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, you name it. I did pretty well in the sack race, making it to the finals before tripping up. The three-legged race was a comedy of errors with people falling all over each other. Even when you fell, it was just too funny not to laugh. With lunch rolling around, we all took a break to refuel on hot dogs, hamburgers, and Popsicles. I was already sweating up a storm, so it felt great to get some cold refreshments and awesome food. After lunch, it was time for one of the wildest events - - the teacher dunk tank! Seeing Mr. Collins and a few other faculty members up on those tanks, just waiting to get dunked, was hilarious. I spent a few bucks to toss baseballs at the target, trying my best to douse them with that cold water. What a thrill it was when I finally dunked old Mr. Patterson! As the day started winding down, we had the massivetug-of-war battle between all the grade levels. I was pulling for a full squad of 8th graders, and we faced off against a mixed team of 6th and 7th graders. I've never pulled so hard in my life! My arms were burning and face was turning beet red, but we weren't going to let those underclassmen show us up. After what felt like an eternity of grunting and straining, we finally pulled them across the line for the win. What a glorious feeling of triumph! When it was all said and done, my team ended up finishing second overall behind the red team. While we didn't get the first place trophy, I was still super proud of how my yellow teammates performed. We left everything out on the field, playing as hard as we possibly could. As I was walking back home that evening, muscles aching and clothes soaked in sweat, I just had a huge smile on my face. Sports day is always such a fun and memorable experience, a way to make loads of great memories with friends. I can't wait to do it all over again next year and reclaim that first place trophy! Nobody puts on a sports extravaganza quite like our school.篇3Today was our school's sports day! We had running races, team relays, and even a parents' race. I ran the 100m dash and came in 3rd place. My favorite was the long jump - I jumped really far! Our class also did the three-legged race which was really funny. We got all sweaty but had so much fun. At the end, we had popsicles and medals for the winners. Sports day is my favorite day of the year! And here is a longer 2,000 word essay on the same topic, written from the perspective of an 8th grader:Sports Day at Oakwood Middle SchoolYes! It's finally here - the day I've been waiting for all year. Oakwood Middle School's annual Sports Day! I could barely sleep last night, I was so excited and pumped up. Sports Day is, hands down, the best, most awesome, funnest day of the entire school year. No classes, no homework, no teachers droning on about math or history or whatever. Just outdoor games, athletics, competitions, and pure adrenaline-packed fun from start to finish.I woke up this morning with the sun peeking through my curtains. A perfect sunny day for Sports Day! I gobbled down my breakfast in record time, barely tasting my Frosted Flakes, I was so eager to get out the door. I've been looking forward to thisday for months, training and practicing as hard as I could. Last year's Sports Day was incredible, but I'm determined to go even bigger and better this time around.I arrived at school super early, joining the small crowd of diehard sports fanatics who get there even earlier than me. We all milled around the athletic fields, scoping out the events, strategizing our game plans. The school crew was still setting up hurdles, cones, and dragging out all the equipment needed for the day's festivities. I waved to some of my teammates and went over my mental checklist one more time. Running shoes, check. Extra socks, check. Sunscreen, check. Snacks and Gatorade for energy, check. I was locked and loaded, ready for action. Finally, the flood gates opened and students started pouring onto the grounds from all directions. Screams, laughter, and shouts of excitement filled the air as friends reunited after sleeping in. Teachers tried to rally the unruly mobs into some semblance of order, but quickly gave up and just let the chaos ensue. The bright-colored athletic shirts of each class year created a vibrant kaleidoscope as the crowds swirled around the fields, mixing and merging. I spotted my friends and rushed over, exchanging high fives and fist bumps of exhilaration. Then the starting airhorn blasted, signaling the commencement of the first event - the 100m dash. I swallowed hard, trying to stomp down the butterflies fluttering in my stomach. This was it, moment of truth. All those hours of training, the grueling hill sprints, the lung-burning intervals on the track, had led to this. I squared my shoulders and marched over to the starting line, joining the ranks of swift-footed competitors vying for the podium."On your marks..." the starter yelled, and we leaned forward onto our marks, tension humming through our coiled muscles. "Get set..." We straightened up, weight balanced between the balls of our feet. An infinite pause, and then - "BANG!" The gun cracked like a thunderclap and we exploded out of the blocks in a flurry of arm pumps and ravenous strides.I could feel the wind rushing past my face as the world blurred around me. My eyes trained laser-focused on the finish line ahead as my legs churned with jackhammer ferocity. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the brightly colored blurs of my competitors, seemingly suspended in mid-flight. We strained, fought, and clawed every agonizing meter of asphalt, pouring our guts out with guttural growls of exertion. Then, almost before I could process it, the race climaxed in an explosive flurry as we hurled our bodies across the finish, chests straining against the ground-slapping impact. I gulped down precious oxygen as sweat stung my eyes. As the dizzying haze cleared, I looked up and realized with a mixture of pride and disappointment that I had nabbed 3rd place, just off the podium.A solid effort, but I knew I would have to dig even deeper to claim gold during the later events. The morning raced by in a blur of friendly cross-campus rivalries and raucous cries of spirited competition. I competed ferociously in anything requiring running, jumping, throwing, or all-around agility and athleticism.篇4The School Sports Day Spectacular!Wow, what a day! Our school's annual sports day was absolutely amazing. I've been looking forward to it for weeks and it totally lived up to my expectations. I'm still buzzing from all the excitement and energy! The day started bright and early with the whole school gathered on the field. The air was filled with a mix of nervous anticipation and pumped-up adrenaline. The teachers wererunning around making sure everything was organized and ready to go. I spotted my friends and we started chatting about which events we were most excited for."I'm gonna crush the 100 meter dash!" Jake boasted, puffing out his skinny chest. We all rolled our eyes at his bravado."Yeah right, you can't even run to class without getting winded," Sarah teased. The opening ceremonies kicked off with the principal giving a big welcome speech. They had the school band playing some fun, upbeat music to get everyone hyped up. Then it was time for the junior students to parade around waving shaped banners representing each grade. The little kindergarteners were just adorable wobbling around with their massive banner flapping behind them. After all the pomp and circumstance, it was finally time for the main events to begin! The first up was the classic relay races. Our class had been practicing our baton passing for weeks, so we were feeling pretty confident. I was the third leg and locked in when it was my turn, really putting on the speed around the final turn. We ended up taking second place, not too shabby! The field was absolute chaos for the next few hours with different track events happening concurrently. You had sprinters blasting down the straightaway, long distance runners circling the field over and over, and even some utterly crazycross-country races that took the athletes into the woods behind the school.Meanwhile, over in the area behind the basketball courts there were all sorts of wacky field competitions taking place. Things like tug-of-war battles with kids being flung across the mud pit, seeing who could shot put a softball the farthest, and even some bizarre event where teams had to transport water across a field using just cups and buckets. It was pure pandemonium but so much fun!I'm definitely more of a track guy myself, so my biggest highlight was the 800 meter run. I actually managed to win my heat and make it into the finals! My parents and little brother were screaming their heads off from the stands, which helped power me to a third place overall finish. Not bad for a shrimpy kid like me!Although we didn't win the most events, our class totally cleaned up in the spirit competition. We had worked hard all week making creative posters, practicing choreographed cheers, and coming up with the most outrageous costumes and facepaint designs. The judges loved our coordinated craziness and we ended up winning the huge spirit trophy! As the day started winding down, everyone reconvened on the field for the closing ceremony crescendo. They did a parade of champions to celebrate all the top finishers from each event. I got to make a solo lap around the track wearing my third place medal, soaking in the applause and cheers. Such an awesome feeling! Finally, it was time to announce the overall grade level competition winners. The tension was palpable as the results were slowly unveiled. There were raucous cheers from the sixth graders when they pulled off the shocker upset for the lower grades. And when the eighth grade was finally announced as taking the upper grade championship, our entire class absolutely lost our minds! We were able to hoist the big trophy together and pose for a million pictures to commemorate our victory. As we walked back through the school doors exhausted but elated, it finally hit me that it was my last elementary school sports day. I'm heading off to high school next year, so this classic tradition will just be a memory. But man, what an incredible final memory it was! A perfect cap to my grade schoolexperience. I'll never forget the incredible ups and downs, the struggles and triumphs, and most of all the pure joy and sense of community that a special day like this can bring. I already can't wait to make new sports day memories in high school!篇5The Annual Sports Day Spectacular!Wow, what an incredible day the annual school sports day was this year! I've been looking forward to it for months and it totally lived up to my expectations. Sports day is definitely the highlight of the school year for me.The day kicked off bright and early with the whole school gathered on the athletic field. The sun was shining, there was a nice breeze blowing, and everyone was dressed in their house colors looking pumped up and ready to go. The teachers all looked really energetic too, which is not something you see every day!First up was the parade of athletes where the team captains from each house marched around carrying their house banners with the rest of their teams following behind them. It was such a cool feeling being part of that parade, showing your house prideand spirit. Our house captain, Jaden, looked so proud leading the way for the Green Gorillas. After the parade, it was time for the opening ceremony speeches. Principal Edwards talked about the importance of sportsmanship and pushing yourself to do your best. Then there were a few words from the head of the sports department, Ms. Jennings. Finally, the team captains were called up to take the sports day oath, vowing to compete with honor and integrity. I felt so official when Jaden took that oath on our behalf! And then, it was showtime! The first events were the track races - 100m, 200m, 400m, etc. I wasn't really focused on those though because my first event was the long jump. I was sooo nervous waiting for my turn, but also really excited. When I finally got up on that runway, I just blocked everything else out, took a deep breath, and went for it. My jump ended up being 4.25m which wasn't too bad! Definitely a personal best for me.After the long jump, I stuck around and cheered on my friends who were doing the high jump, triple jump, shot put and discus throw. There were so many impressive performances from kids on all the house teams. Darnell from the Red Roosters threw the discus a whopping 32 meters! The Blue Bears had this tinygirl named Janelle who easily cleared 1.5m in the high jump. Just amazing athletes all around. The running races were also super exciting with crazy close finishes in some of them. Ashton from our team was keeping us in the running by winning just about every sprint race he entered. Such a fast dude! By lunchtime, the scoring was still pretty tight between the houses. We all refueled at lunch with sandwiches, fruit, and plenty of sugar-filled snacks and sports drinks to keep our energy up. Lunch was also when the cheerleaders and dance teams put on their performance which was awesome. Those routines require so much athleticism and coordination. I was in awe of their skills! After lunch, it was time for the relay races and team events like the tug-of-war. Our Green Gorilla squad put in a solid performance in the 4x100m relay, earning some valuable points. The tug-of-war was just pure chaos though, with kids being pulled and dragged all over the place! So funny to watch but I'm glad I didn't take part in that one.As the day went on, the scoring stayed tight but we were able to eke out a small lead over the Blue Bears and Red Roosters. With just a couple rotating events left, it was still anyone's game.I wasn't involved in either the Frisbee throw or the Crazy Cones race, but I was on the sidelines cheering like a maniac! Finally, it came down to the grand finale event - the obstacle course relay. This was the one I had been dreaming about all year. Four kids from each house would take turns racing through an insane obstacle course involving climbing walls, crawling through tubes, swinging on ropes, and various other challenges. Our four runners were Jaden, Ashton, Marcus, and me!I was up first and maybe I was too pumped up because I totally botched the opening climbing wall and got passed by a couple other runners right away. However, I was able to make up some ground by flying through the tube crawl and rope swing to hand off in third place to Jaden. That dude is a machine and he passed both runners ahead of him by the time he tagged off to Ashton. Ashton extended our lead even further and when it was Marcus' turn, he just had to maintain our cushion. Those final moments were the most intense, watching Marcus leap, climb, and sprint through that gnarly obstacle course with two other guys on his heels. When he finally burst through that finish line, the entire Green Gorilla squad erupted in cheers! We had won the whole sports day for the first time in five years! The medal ceremony was just the absolute best with Principal Edwards placing those gold medals around our necks. I loved seeing the proud smiles on my teammates' faces as we raised that first place banner together. All that hard work and sacrifice had finally paid off. What an unforgettable day!Now I just can't wait for next year's sports day so we can do it all over again and defend our title. Being a Green Gorilla Champ is something I'll never forget! Two thumbs up for the best day of the school year!篇6The Best Sports Day Ever!Woohoo, it's Sports Day again! This is definitely one of the most exciting days of the school year. I've been looking forward to it for weeks, and I can barely contain my energy and enthusiasm. Don't get me wrong, I love learning and all, but there's something absolutely thrilling about a day dedicated solely to athletic activities and friendly competition. It's like a festival of fitness and fun!As soon as I arrived at school this morning, the atmosphere was electric. Everywhere I looked, there were students decked out in colorful t-shirts representing their respective houses orteams. The air was filled with cheers, chants, and the occasional friendly taunts between rivals. Even the teachers seemed more lively than usual, their faces beaming with pride and excitement. The opening ceremony was a spectacle in itself. We all gathered on the main field, our hearts pounding with anticipation. The principal gave a rousing speech about the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and friendly competition. Then, the school's sports captains took the stage, leading us in a spirited round of cheers that echoed through the entire campus. And just like that, the games began! The first event was the classic 100-meter dash. I'll admit, I'm not the fastest runner in my class, but I gave it my all. The sound of the starting gun sent a jolt of adrenaline through my body, and I sprinted down the track like my life depended on it. While I didn't win, the rush of pushing myself to the limit was utterly exhilarating.Next up was the long jump pit. Now, this is where I truly shined. I've always had a knack for leaping, and I soared through the air, landing with a graceful thud in the soft sand. The look of disbelief on my classmates' faces when I set a new personal best was priceless! As the day progressed, we participated in a whirlwind of activities – relay races, tug-of-war, sack races, and even a hilariously chaotic game of dodgeball. With each event, the camaraderie and team spirit grew stronger. We cheered on our friends, consoled those who didn't perform as well as they'd hoped, and celebrated every small victory with unbridled joy.One of the highlights, though, had to be the parents' race. It was an absolute riot watching our usually composed parents let loose and engage in some good-natured competition. My dad, bless his heart, gave it his all in the sack race, only to tumble spectacularly at the finish line. But he picked himself up, dusted himself off, and joined in the laughter with the rest of us.As the day drew to a close, we gathered once more on the field for the closing ceremony. The sense of accomplishment and pride was palpable. Sure, there were winners and losers, but in the end, we were all united by the shared experience of pushing our limits, supporting each other, and having an absolute blast. The best part? We get to do it all over again next year! I can't wait to train hard, improve my skills, and make even more unforgettable memories with my friends and classmates. Sports Day may only come once a year, but the lessons it teaches –teamwork, determination, and the sheer joy of physical activity –will stay with me forever.。

‘In it to win it – at it to get it’: Low - tech Interactions for Motivation and Learning in HCIJanet C Read University of Central LancashirePreston Lancs. PR1 2HE, UK+44 1772 893285grsim@ABSTRACTIn this paper, we describe a motivational tool that was used in a large undergraduate HCI class; looking to design a more inspirational learning experience, we took inspiration from the ‘H’ and the ‘I’ in Human Computer Interaction to devise a low - tech system that engaged the students and provided us, as lecturers, with interesting knowledge about motivation and engagement. The use of the tool was evaluated over a twelve week course and the results showed that whilst engagement and motivation increased over the first few weeks, it tailed off towards the end. An interesting finding was that students were prepared to ‘cheat’ to win and this behaviour is examined in the paper and suggestions made as to how this might be implemented in a more high – tech interaction.KeywordsMotivation, Engagement, Interactive lectures, Low - tech1. INTRODUCTIONFollowing on from earlier studies by ourselves and others, this paper describes an experimental approach to lecture management that was intended to improve student engagement and motivation (Read, Kelly and Sim 2005), (Gregory and Read 2000). There is a perception by some students that in order to learn, all they need to do is attend classes and carry out the activities (Petty 2004). Within the institution that hosted this study, many of the classes are delivered in the form of lectures and their duration is typically one hour. However, it has been noted that undergraduates have only a typical attention span of around fifteen minutes (McCabe, Horowitz and Beakes 2004) and so, lecturers can become less effective unless they incorporate some interaction with the students to help them stay focussed. In several studies, lecturers overcome this problem by incorporating problem solving activities into the lectures (Rodger 1995), this is not always easy as in some circumstances there are physical constraints, for example the seating arrangement of learners, that limit the opportunities for peer interaction and for interaction with the teacher (Roth, McGinn, Woszcyna and Boutonne 1999)There are known ‘tricks’ to improve student engagement; one is the use of multimedia. It is common with teachers of HCI to use multimedia in the lectures to introduce concepts and technology. An example is in the discussion of ubiquitous computing where the technology will be difficult to demonstrate in the class and it might be expensive. This use of multimedia is supposed to provide engagement for the students and facilitate effective learning by catering for different learning styles (Alessi and Trollip 2001). However, despite the inclusion of multimedia, the students can still be passive recipients of information and not be engaged with the subject domain.A different approach to engage students is to use interactivity. Currently one of the most widely adopted approaches to making lectures interactive, is the incorporation of mobile devices into the classroom (Draper and Brown 2004). This enables the students to exchange their role as a passive recipient of information into an active participant in the communication process. Typically the interaction that occurs is in the form of quizzes where students use a device to communicate their response to a question to the lecturer (Scheele, Seitz, Effelsberg and Wessels 2004). The lecturer can gain instant feedback from the students on their understanding of the concept and provide additional clarification if necessary. Through this interaction there is the expectation that students learning will be enhanced by being actively involved in the communication process. To use these devices it is often necessary to have a specially equipped lecturing space, and there is a time overhead involved in programming and maintaining the systems. In the study described in this paper, the approach was to investigate how the use of low-tech, non-interactive tools might improve engagement and motivation. Multimedia had been tried, high – tech interactivity was not an option as the class could not use the lecture theatre with that facility built in.In the rest of this paper the approach is described, some results and presented and discussion follows that suggests some ways forward for the idea.3. IN IT TO WIN IT AND AT IT TO GET ITThe work that is described here took place in a “new university”, where 89 second year undergraduates attend a common year-long HCI course in the Department of Computing. The course is one sixth of their study for the year, and is taken by several different cohorts. The largest group taking HCI are enrolled on BSc Computer Games, other groups include BSc Computing, BSc Network Technology, BSc Multimedia Computing, BSc Business Information systems, BSc Database Systems, BSc Software Development and also students from the Department of Technology studying BSc Web and Multimedia, as well as handful of Combined Honours students from who knows where! The cohort includes several students that do not really see the ‘point’ in doing HCI and, as the module is compulsory, it is often done somewhat grudgingly. The course is taught by two lecturers who take a team approach to the work. In the first semester, one does the lecturing and staffs practical sessions whilst the other does the associated marking and admin. The course is presented in two parts. In the twelve weeks to Christmas students are taught the core syllabus, basing the content on the HCI Textbook by (Dix, Finlay, Abowd and Beale 2004). In the second semester, students have a more varied experience, electing to attend a minimum of five seminars and working on their coursework. The work described here was carried out in semester one, during the core teaching.3.1 The PlanThe plan was very simple, each week the lecture would include a quiz for the students. The quiz, once handed in would act as a register (thus encouraging participation) and the week following, one of the winners of the quiz would be drawn from a hat and given a HCI text book as a prize. The students had to be at the lecture to participate and had to attend the following week for the prize. If a student was drawn as a winner but was not present, another one was chosen. This would continue until a winner was found.Central to the philosophy was that anyone could win, thus, it was not to be a quiz that measured ability but should be easy enough for everyone to complete, if they paid attention to the lecture.3.2 Design of the Quiz sheetsThe quiz sheets were created week by week by the lecturer that was not teaching the class. Based on the PowerPoint slides that accompanied the class, each quiz had ten questions. The question topics were balanced to cover the whole of the lecture time i.e. questions were set from the early, middle and latter parts of the lecture. The first question always asked what the aim of the lecture was, and the last question asked what topic was being covered in the next lecture. The questions were not designed to be particularly difficult, the aim was to encourage attention to be paid throughout the lecture time and promote active listening. Some example questions are given here:Lecture topic Example QuestionIntro to HCI Name one type of expert reviewEvaluation Methods Name a method of direct observationInput technology Name one of two ways of ClassifyinginputOutput technologies What are the two gulfs in Norman’smodelDialog notations What does HTA stand forDesign What are some of the easy things tothink about in design for all?Table 1 - Examples of QuestionsHumour was also used in some of the questions, for example, a question on state transition diagrams was followed by “How many states are there in the USA?” Again the rationale for this approach was that questions were not particularly intended to find out how hard the students were thinking – just that they were engaged and paying attention in the class.3.3 The MethodThe quiz sheets were handed out at the start of the class; student’s filled them in during the class and at the end of each lecture the quiz sheets were left on the front desk by the students. The sheets were not actively collected from them and therefore individual students were not compelled to submit a quiz sheet. The pile of completed quiz sheets were then gathered up by the lecturer and these were marked outside of class time. The sheets were then separated into three groups: (i) those that had only the name of the student on the sheet and therefore did not participate at all in the quiz, (ii) those that attempted questions but did not get them all right, and (iii) those that got all answers correct. The numbers were counted up for each category by week and data entered onto a spreadsheet. A number of simple statistics were then calculated and analysed.3.4 The ResultsAt the beginning of the semester, the students took a rather haphazard approach to completing the quiz sheets, evidenced in Table 2 by the high proportion of students that got a lot of the questions wrong.Wk 1Wk2Wk3Wk4Wk5Wk6Wk7Wk8not attempted at all 510523753attempted but not correct 421981610 14 14 16 all correct 2138414235 25 22 25 Total class attendance 6867546048 46 41 44 % of all correct vs. total class 30.956.775.970.072.9 54.3 53.7 56.8 % not correct (inc not attempted) vs. allcorrect 69.143.324.130.027.1 45.7 46.3 43.2 % of not attempted at all vs. whole class 3.4 6.7 2.7 1.2 1.44 3.22 2.05 1.32Table 2 - Results from the quizzesOver the following weeks, students became more concerned with getting the answers right, possibly motivated by the high quality (!) text books that were being seen to be given out to their peers. On two occasions, the course text book (Dix, Finlay et al. 2004), was given out as a prize but students were not told what the winning book would be, so this would not have influenced the hand ins.The graph in Figure 1 shows how the quizzes were answered. It can be seen that theFigure 1 - Summary of resultsIn week one, the total number of quizzes submitted was 68. We would have expected this number to be the highest as most students attend the first week of term, however, as the total number of students registered on the module was 89, we were unsure whether these 21 missing students were incorrectly registered on the module or simply didn’t engage at all with the process. It can be seen that the total number of submitted quizzes decreased as the semester went on, with 44 quizzes submitted in the final week. The results show that in the first week almost 70% of students attempted the quiz but didn’t answer all questions correctly. Around a third of students answered all questions correctly in week one. A very small percentage of students (5 students, 3.4%) didn’t attempt to answer a question and simply put their name on the quiz sheet. In week two more students got all answers correct than didn’t get all answers correct (38 vs. 19, 57% vs. 43%). This trend continued for the rest of the semester, peaking in weeks 3, 4 and 5 when 76%, 70% and 73% of students who attempted the quiz got all answers correct. The number of students not attempting any questions increased to its highest rate in this second week (10 students, 6.7%). In later weeks the numbers of students attending the class fell, but students continued to be more likely to answer all questions correctly than not (circa 55% vs. 45%).As the semester progressed some interesting strategies emerged. Several students embellished their quiz answer sheets with graffiti such as “pick me!!” in a bid to have their quiz sheets chosen as prize winners. Others, having seen how the completed sheets were folded before being picked, coloured in all the corners to make them stand out. Four students submitted multiple quiz sheets to increase their chances of winning (this was only uncovered during marking when the lecturer had a déjà vu moment!4. DISCUSSIONThere were several questions that interested the lecturing staff. The first was about attendance; did the quiz increase attendance? This was not easy to determine. Given the low chance of winning the book, it is possible that the quiz was not the tool for attendance, it was more likely the fact that the quiz became the register, that made people fill it in. Certainly, the large proportion of uncompleted quiz sheets seemed to indicate that students ‘wanted a mark’.As regards engagement, the quiz seemed to increase engagement for some of the students. Because over the weeks a subset of students became more concerned with getting the answers right, this might indicate engagement. Another hint of increased engagement was the disappointment when, with a guest lecture doing the class, several students became concerned that this might mean no quiz. Other signs of increased engagement included the personalisation of the quiz sheets with little messages being sent to the lecturers. The success, or otherwise, of the scheme depends to some extent on the way that the individual students are motivated. There is an interesting conflict between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (Reiss 2005), (Deci, Koestner and Ryan 1999).. Students that ‘like’ the free book may be more extrinsically motivated than intrinsically motivated.Having run the scheme for the semester, the class resumed in the New Year for a different sort of class and there were cries of ‘what no books!’ and ‘are there no quizzes?’ so it seemed that for some students this was a fun experience that they wanted to stay with. That said, the results indicated a down turn in popularity and so we concluded that it was better to quit whilst ahead! One of the features of this experiment was that the interaction was so low – tech, in the next cohort of students we intend to replicate this using digital pens and paper. In this way, we hope to retain the best part of the low tech interaction (the facility to cheat, to personalise, and to scribble) but enable a high – tech interchange of ideas. We will be interested to see how the students respond to this. The low tech nature of the quiz sheet added a dimension that would be hard to replicate in a digital form. The students’ personalisation of the sheets, we would argue added to their engagement in the process – the sheets became a mode of self expression for them. It could be argued of course that their doodles were a sign on lack of engagement, though talking to the students themselves would be the only way to ascertain this.ACKNOWLEDGMENTSWe would like to thank the students for their participation in the quizzes.REFERENCESAlessi, S.
