AThere are so many ways to interpret body language and many, many more body language indicators. Below, we’ll show you some of the most popular indicators. How close are they?Physical proximity is a frequently used body language indicator that many people don’t notice. If someone is comfortable with you, they won’t mind sitting or standing near you. So an interesting way to see if someone actually thinks you’re okay is to go brush shoulders with them. If they back away, you have your answer!Restless handsHave you ever seen someone drumming on a desk or a chair with their fingers? What about people playing drums on their legs? This can be a sign of impatience, restlessness, and even sometimes anger. If you’re lecturing your kids and they’re drumming their fingers on the table, chances are you may not really be getting through to them. When you’re speaking with someone and they’re doing this, it’s time to switch tactics.Holding your hands behind your backOf all the body language indicators on this list, this one is the most ambiguous. People hold their hands behind their backs for a number of reasons. Watch any mafia movie a nd you’ll see the Don holding his hands behind his back as a sign of power. People in the military are taught to do it as a sign of respect. Sometimes, people will even do it to be cute. Usually, when this occurs, you must rely on other indicators to determine the emotion being displayed. It is still quite popular.Hands balled into fistsThis is another really popular indicator. Unlike the last one, this one has pretty much one single meaning. People do it when they’re frustrated and angry. This is usually a precursor to violence, as balled up firsts often results in something getting punched or hit. If you are speaking with someone and their hands are balled up in fists, things could go wrong very quickly.Arms crossed!People often misconstrue what crossing arms actually means. People think it means that someone is angry. In fact, it’s actually used as a defensive stance. People who have their arms crossed are unconsciously defending themselves. They may not want to talk anymore or they may be hiding somet hing they don’t want to talk about. But crossing the arms means a person is trying to comfort themselves, meaning they’re uncomfortable.Surprise! This one is pretty obvious but we are talking about popular body language indicators. When someone widens the ir eyes or raises their eye brows, they’re most often surprised or shocked at something. There really aren’t any other reasons why someone widens their eyes. So this one is not only really popular, but really obvious and easy to spot!21. What can we do if we want to know whether someone likes to stay with us or not?A. we can just stand close to him or her.B. we can only shake hands with him or her.C. we can hug him or her tightly.D. we can drum on the desk with our fingers.22. If someone is a soldier, he use a gesture like holding his hands behind his back to ?A. show his power over others.B. show his respect to others.C. show his angry to others.D. show his cuteness to others.23. According to paragraph six, people who crossed their arms are often ?A. angryB. frustratedC. impatientD. uncomfortable24. Which body language in this passage is popular and easy to spot?A. Once you download it, yo u can highlight any text in practically any program, and it’s instantly translated into the language of your choice. You can use it to translate a website, email, word doc, pdf, and virtually any document in any format you can think of. You can compose a document in your native language, and Babylon will instantly translate it into another before you send it.The program translates 75 languages, including: Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindu, and Russian. It also includes up-to-date encyclopedias, dictionaries, and spell checkers.Babylon is a long way from early translation software that would, more often than not, generate an unreadable babble of grammatically incoherent text that was better suited for generating laughs than comprehension. AIn 1978,I was 18 and was working as a nurse in a small town about 270 km away from Sydney, Australia. I was looking forward to having five days off from duty. Unfortunately, the only one train a day back to my home in Sydney had already left. So I thought I'd hitch a ride (搭便车).I waited by the side of the highway for three hours but no one stopped for me. Finally,a man walked over and introduced himself as Gordon. He said that although he couldn't give me a lift,I should come back to his house for lunch. He noticed me standing for hours in the November heat and thought I must be hungry. I was doubtful as a young girl but he assured (使……放心)me I was safe, and he also offered to help me find a lift home afterwards. When we arrived at his house,he made us sandwiches. After lunch,he helped me find a lift home.Twenty five years later,in 2003,while I was driving to a nearby town one day,I saw an elderly man standing in the glaring heat, trying to hitch a ride. I thought it was another chance to repay someone for the favour I'd been given decades earlier. I pulled over and picked him up. I made him comfortable on the back seat and offered him some water. After a few moments of small talk, the man said to me,“You haven't changed a bit, even your red hair is still the same.”I couldn't remember where I'd met him. He then told me he was the man who had given me lunch and helped me find a lift all those years ago. It was Gordon.1. The author had to hitch a ride one day in 1978 because ______.A.her work delayed her trip to SydneyB.she was going home for her holidaysC.the town was far away from SydneyD.she missed the only train back home2. Which of the following did Gordon do according to Paragraph 2?A.He helped the girl find a ride.B.He gave the girl a ride back home.C.He bought sandwiches for the girl.D.He watched the girl for three hours.3. The reason why the author offered a lift to the elderly man was that ______.A.she realized he was GordonB.she had known him for decadesC.she was going to the nearby townD.she wanted to repay the favour she once got4. What does the author want to tell the readers through the story?A.Giving sometimes produces nice results.B.Those who give rides will be repaid.C.Good manners bring about happiness.D.People should offer free rides to others.BIt happened to me recently. I was telling someone how much I had enjoyed reading Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father and how it had changed my views of our President. A friend I was talking to agreed with me that it was,in his words,“a brilliantly(精彩地)written book”.However,he then went on to talk about Mr. Obama in a way which suggested he had no idea of his background at all. I sensed that I was talking to a book liar. And it seems that my friend is not the only one. Approximately two thirds of people have lied about reading a book which they haven't. In the World Book Day's “Report on Guilty Secrets”,Dreams From My Father is at number 9.The report lists ten books, and various authors, which people have lied about reading, and as I'm not one to lie too often(I'd hate to be caught out),I'll admit here and now that I haven't read the entire top ten. But I am pleased to say that, unlike 42 percent of people,I have read the book at number one,George Orwell's 1984.I think it's really brilliant. The World Book Day report also has some other interesting information in it. It says that many people lie about having read Jane Austen,Charles Dickens,Fyodor Dostoevsky(I haven't read him,but haven't lied about it either)and Herman Melville. Asked why they lied, the most common reason was to “impress” someone they were speaking to. This could be tricky if the conversation became more in depth! But when asked which authors they actually enjoy, people named J.K. Rowling,John Grisham,Sophie Kinsella(ah,the big sellers,in other words).Forty--two percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story(I'll come clean:I do this and am astonished that 58 percent said they had never done so).5. How did the author find his friend a book liar?A.By judging his manner of speaking.B.By looking into his background.C.By mentioning a famous name.D.By discussing the book itself.6. Which of the following is a “guilty secret” according to the World Book Day report?A.Charles Dickens is very low on the top-ten list.B.42% of people pretended to have read 1984.C.The author admitted having read 9 books.D.Dreams From My Father is hardly read.7. By lying about reading,a person hopes to ______.A.control the conversationB.appear knowledgeableC.learn about the bookD.make more friends8. What is the author's attitude to 58% of readers?A.Favorable.B.Uncaring.C.Doubtful.D.Friendly.CGiven that many people's moods(情绪)are regulated(调节)by the chemical action of chocolate,it was probably only a matter of time before somebody made thechocolate shop similar to a drugstore of Chinese medicine. Looking like a setting from the film Charlie& the Chocolate Factory,Singapore's Chocolate Research Facility(CRF)has over 100 varieties of chocolates. Its founder is Chris Lee who grew up at his parents' corner store with one hand almost always in the jar of sweets. If the CRF seems to be a smart idea, that's because Lee is not merely an experienced salesperson but also head of a marketing department that has business relations with big names such as Levi's and Sony. That idea surely results in the imagination at work when it comes to making different flavored(味道)chocolates. The CRF's produce is “green”,made within the country and divided into 10 lines, with the Alcohol Series being the most popular. The Exotic Series—with Sichuan pepper, red bean(豆),cheese and other flavors—also does well and is fun to taste. And for chocolate snobs, who think that they have a better knowledge of chocolate than others, the Connoisseur Series uses cocoa beans from Togo,Cuba,Venezuela, and Ghana, among others.9. What is good about chocolate?A.It serves as a suitable gift.B.It works as an effective medicine.C.It helps improve the state of mind.D.It strengthens business relations.10. Why is Chris Lee able to develop his idea of the CRF?A.He knows the importance of research.B.He learns from shops of similar types.C.He has the support of many big names.D.He has a lot of marketing experience.11. Which line of the CRF produce sells best?A.The Connoisseur Series.B.The Exotic Series. C.The Alcohol Series.D.The Sichuan Series.12. The words “chocolate snobs” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to people who______. A.are particular about chocolateB.know little about cocoa beansC.look down upon othersD.like to try new flavorsDI got my first driver's license(执照)in 1953 by taking driver education in my first year at Central High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Four years later when it was time to renew my license I was a married woman. Henry and I were living in Baltimore, Maryland. Two weeks before my20th birthday, Henry drove me to the motor vehicle office on a hot July afternoon. When I got to the office and showed to the man behind the counter my North Carolina driver's license, ready to renew, the man told me that I was under age by Mar yland law since I was not yet 21.“Mr.Henry Smith, your husband, will have to sign for you,”I argued, pointing to a very large belly(肚子)of mine, “I am married. I am having a baby. Why should I have to have someone sign for me to drive?”He answered coldly, “It's the law, madam.”Henry encouraged me to calm down, just go ahead and get the license and be done with it.“No,”I said. I refused to have him sign for me. So I left withoutaI called the North Carolina Motor Vehicle Office and renewed my NC license by mail—using my name Susan Brown. And thus it was for the next twelve years. Since Henry was in the army I could drive under my home state license. By the time Henry left the army we were once again living in Maryland, and I had to take the Marylanddriver's exam. Since then I just go in and renew every four years—sign the name Susan Brown, have my new picture taken,13. Susan got her first driver's license ______.A.before she got married to HenryB.when she was twenty years oldC.after she finished high schoolD.when she just moved to Maryland14. Susan failed to renew her license the first time in Maryland because ______. A.she was forbidden to drive by Maryland lawB.she lacked driving experience in MarylandC.she was to give birth to a baby soonD.she insisted on signing for herself15. We can infer from the text that in the U.S.______.A.American males should serve in the armyB.different states may have different lawsC.people have to renew their licenses in their home statesD.women should adopt their husbands' family names after marriage第二节(共5个小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余项。

This time, though, Tracy lost his balance. His head struck the ground, hard. All night, Cory, Tracy’ s mother, stood next to her son, who was lying in a hospital bed, his brown eyes fixed in a lifeless stare. She remembered that Tracy has once mentioned organ (器官)donation. Maybe I can spare another family this pain, she thought. When the time came, she and her husband Bill signed the forms permitting his organs to be donated.Tracy was declared dead the next day. Twenty-four hours later, in a Bo ston hospital, Tracy’s liver was made part of my husband, David, who was suffering from a hopeless liver disease.Months later, we learned from the local organ bank that the donor’s parents wished desperately to meet someone who had gained life through the gift from their son. A meeting was arranged by the organ bank to bring together two families linked by the most bittersweet ties imaginable. The meeting was risky, but worth it. We talked for 3 hours. They showed us a picture of Tracy. We learned for the first how he had lived and died. We learned something about Bill and Cory too.For the Marches, seeing David and knowing he was well seemed to ease their suffering. I’ll never forget seeing David’s tall figure stopped over Corry, her arms around his w aist, as a mother would huga son. For a long time they held each other tight. It was hard to know if she was saying hello or good-bye. Maybe she was saying both.56. We learn from the passage that Tracy died _________.A. on December 8, 1992B. of brain damageC. 24 hours after he fell off the roof of a carD. in a car crash57. Tracy’s parents decided to donate Tracy’s organs because ______.A. Tracy told them to do so just before he died.B. They wanted to save others the pain of seeing dear one die.C. David’s life could continue in a meaningful way.D. They knew David was suffering from a hopeless liver disease.58. To reduce car crash rate, much research now is focused on safety and new fuels---though some electric vehicle and biofuel research aims at going faster.Travelling at speed has always been risky. One advanced area of research in motoring safety is the use of digital in-car assistants(车内辅助设施). They can ensure you don’t miss important road signs or fall asleep. The use of artificial intelligence software allows these assistants to monitor your driving and make sure your phone or radio doesn’t distract you at a vital moment. Most crashes result from human and not mechanical faults. Some safety developments aim to improve your vision. Radar can find obstacles(障碍物) in fog, while other technology “sees through” big vehicles blocking your view. And improvements to seat belts, pedal(制动踏板)controls and tyres(轮胎) are making driving smoother and safer. The color of a car has been found to be linked with safety, as have, less surprisingly, size and shape. But whatever is in the fuel tank, you don’t want a thief in the driving seat and there have been many innovations(革新). Satellite tracking and remote communications can also come into play if you crash, automatically calling for help.Accidents cause many traffic jams, but there are more subtle interplays(微妙的相互影响)between vehicles that can cause jams even on a clear but busy road. Such jams can be analyzed usingstatistical tools. Robotic drivers could be programmed to make traffic flow smoothly and will perhaps one day be everyone’s personal drivers, but their latest efforts suggest that won’t be soon.61. What are researchers interested in doing as the road accidents worldwide increase to a shocking rate?A. They are developing faster electric vehicles.B. They are analyzing road deaths occurring worldwide every yearC. They concentrate their research on safety and new fuelsD. They are designing fully automatic cars62. According to the second paragraph, most road accidents happenA. because drivers fall asleep.B. because drives make mistakes.C. because of engine failure.D. because of speeding.63. Which of the safety development is NOT mentioned in the in the passage?A. Radars that can help drivers to see obstacles in fog.B. Devices that can help drivers to see through big vehicles.C. Improvements in seat belts, pedal controls and tyres.D. Windscreens that can help drivers to improve their vision.64. What is NOT the purpose of innovations that use satellite tracking and remote communications?A. To prevent car thieves from getting into your car.B. To call for help when one’s car crashes.C. To call for help when the car gets jammed in the traffic.D. To track the car down when it is being stolen.65. What is true of robotic drivers?A. It will take some time before robotic drivers can put to practical use.B. Robotic drivers are not allowed to drive on busy roads.C. Robotic drivers can never replace human drivers.D. Robotic drivers are too expensive to use.CFran’s husband Tom had a habit of throwing his dirty socks into the laundry basket , but frequently missing by a few inches. It really frustrated Fran when she had to pick up his socks and place them in the basket. After learning the techniques of behavior modification(矫正),Fran decided to stop nagging(唠叨) her husband and try positive reinforcement(加强). When he missed the basket, she said nothing and quietly picked up his socks. However, one day when his socks actually landed in the target, she quickly reinforced the appropriate behavior by saying, “ I really like it when you put your socks right inside the basket.” She followed this statement with a hug. W ithin a week, Tom was hitting the target every time, or picking up the socks by hand and placing them inside the basket whenever he missed. Consequently, an argument was avoided. There is an old saying that” you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar”, which is the principal behind behavior modification. Complaining to someone of doing something, whether it’s a partner or a child, often gets just the opposite response: resistance. But almost everyone respond to positive reinforcement and this approa ch to changing someone’s behavior takes a little patience and emotional control.Experts of behavior modification believe habits are learned because of reinforcement from theenvironment. This theory states that people will always do the behavior that results in the most favorable outcome. Even if in the doing, there are some negative effects. For instance,Fran may have learned from her mother that it really didn’t matter whether her husband’s socks landed in the basket or not. It is because she’d come al ong and pick them up for him. That was the favorable outcome but, if he only got negative messages from Fran for the same behavior, he didn’t have much motivation to abandon it.Of course for some people nothing will work, but it’s sure worth a try, for treating them with a hostile attitude probably won’t get you what you want , but it will get you a bad relationship with them. Positive reinforcement can be used with anyone, for any behavior, because all of us resist criticism and respond to praise. So, the next time you want someone to meet your wishes, try a little applause for the desired behavior.66. Why does the author present Tom and Fran’s story at the beginning of the passage?A. To introduce the techniques of behavior modification.B. To show Tom is one of those needing behavior modification.C. To let the readers know this family.D. To list ways to get rid of bad habits.67. Which of the following best fits the principle behind behavior modification?A. Taking no notice of one’s occas ional good behavior.B. Praising one for his or her good deeds.C. Telling a child not to make the same mistakes again.D. Leaving a child alone when he or she does something wrong.68. Which statement about a habit may the author agree with?A. Criticism contributes a lot to the formation of a bad habit.B. Most of our habits are formed in childhood.C. We can always get along with a person of good habits.D. A habit is usually reinforced by favorable outcome.69. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?A. Positive reinforcement works on anyone.B. Positive reinforcement should be applied to anyone.C. By using positive reinforcement we don’t fail to get what we wantD. By using positive reinforcement we can improving our relationship with anyone else.70. The purpose of the passage is to tell us_____.A. how to bring out the best in othersB. the way to get along with othersC. what behavior modification isD. the training of behavior modificationPART FOUR WRITING (45 marks)SECTION A (10 marks)Directions:Read the following passage. Let me put both the things before you, which may help you decide whether eating raw eggs is good or not.One good reason for eating or rather drinking raw eggs is that it supplies most of the essential amino acids(氨基酸) required for proper functioning of the human body. Another good reason to eat eggs is that they provide a bunch of vitamins and minerals like riboflavin, folic acid, vitamineB6, vitamin B 12, iron, choline, calcium, potassium and phosphorus. Egg is one of the few natural products that contain vitamin D. One more nutrient called choline is contained in the egg which is recommended for intake by pregnant and nursing women, as it aids brain development. The egg white is the richest source of protein on earth. This makes it an ideal protein supplement. Eating raw eggs for protein is a common practice among body builders. One danger from eating raw eggs is getting a salmonella infection. The danger is highly overstated, however. There is a probability of 1 in 30,000 eggs being infected with salmonella according to a study . To stay safe, you should purchase eggs from villagers who feed their chickens with organic foods. Cold storage of chicken eggs also helps to reduce the risk of infection. Another problem is that eating a lot of egg white can lead to lack of biotin(促生素). However, this problem can be dealt with if you eat the whole egg instead of just the egg white as the egg yolk is rich in biotin. The high level of cholesterol(胆固醇) in egg yolk is another risk . however, there is no convincing research on how much egg yolk cholesterol can be stored by the body. If you have heart problems, eating less is recommended.Title: 71._______---Good or BadI 72.________*giving73.________ of most of essential amino acids for the human body to 74.______*providing a bunch of vitamins and minerals especially for75.______ to develop* the richest source of protein---76_______--an excellent source of proteinII. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger and scream and yell. But other people keep theiranger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger. For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person's health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙).They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. In general the person feels excited and ready to act. Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.81. Why do doctors say anger is dangerous? (No more than 10 words)_______________________________________________________________________82. Just how many New World place names are recycled from the Old World names has never been tallied, but one researcher found forty-one Londons, fifty-six Berlins, twenty-four Dublins, thirty-two Athenses, and twenty-seven Moscows, among others!Reasons for European place names differ. Some were in memory of settlers‟ former homes, others in honor of historic events. Founded in 1818 by John Coffee, Robert Beaty, John D. Carroll, and John Read, Athens is one of the oldest incorporated cities in the State of Alabama. The town was first called Athenson, and the name was then shortened to Athens, after the ancient city in Greece. More interestingly, some names were given by mistake. His wife, Gerrie, was still working in the local school cafeteria, but work for Dave was scarce, and the price of everything was rising. The Fusses were at risk of joining the millions of Americans who have lost their homes in recent years. Then Dave and Gerrie received a timely gift — $ 7,000, a legacy (遗产) from their neighbors Ish and Arlene Hatch, who died in an accident. “It really made a difference when we were going under financially.” says Dave. But the Fusses weren‟t the only folks in Alto and the neighboring town of Lowell to receive unexpected legacy from the Hatches. Dozens of other families were touched by the Hatches‟ generosity. In some cases, it was a few thousand dollars; in others, it was more than $100,000.It surprised nearly everyone that the Hatches had so much money, more than $3 million — they were an elderly couple who lived in an old house on what was left of the family farm.Children of the Great Depression, Ish and Arlene were known for their habit of saving. They thrived on (喜欢) comparison shopping and would routinely go from store to store, checking prices before making a new purchase.Through the years, the Hatches paid for local children to attend summer camp when their parents couldn‟ t afford it. “Ish and Arlene never asked if you needed anything.” says their friend Sandy Van Weelden, “They could see things they could do to make you happier, and they would do them.”Even more extraordinary was that the Hatches had their farmland distributed. It was the Hat ches‟ wish that their legacy — a legacy of kindness as much as one of dollars and cents —should enrich the whole community and last for generations to come.Neighbors helping neighbors —that was Ish and Arlene Hatch‟ s story.8. The community of Alto was poor.B. The summer camp was attractive to the parents.C. Sandy Van Weelden got a legacy from the Hatches.D. The Hatches would like the neighbors to follow their example.DThe trip to the United States opened my eyes to the fact that there are a lot of similarities as well as differences between American youth and French youth. The first difference is in appearance. Going around in the U.S., I found that American youth do not really care about their appearance. In the morning, they choose something in their closet and wear it with another thing, often of different colors and styles, without wondering whether their choices make them look strange. The reason behind this is that they don‟t care what people look like, but are just interested in their ideas. I think it‟s great, but it also causes problems. Since they don‟t care about their appearance, they don‟t really care about their weight. Often they get fat without realizing it.There are differences in relationships too. When the American youth fall in love, they don‟t really think of the future. Also, there are differences in the rules concerning behavior that is allowed. In some respects, the French are more accepting. For example, in America it is generally unacceptable to make physical display of love. Lovers, in theory, can‟t kiss or hold each other everywhere they want. People think that not showing love in public places is a way to respect others. On the contrary, the French youth can do almost everything they want. With regard to other types of relationships, there are also big differences. Americans act differently from French people in front of unknown people. When an American girl, for example, arrives in front of people she has never met before, she will talk with them, trying to create a kind of bond between her and this new circle of people. The French girls will just think about rather than really do this kind of thing because they are too shy and lacking in self-confidence.To finish, I noticed that in American classes, when pupils want to say or ask something, they just do it. In general, they don‟t really care how the others will judge them. In France, it‟s not the same case. If somebody wants to ask something, he/she will think about it before speaking up. I appreciate the freedom in Americans‟ behavior, ideas, and ways of expressing themselves.12. American young people _______.A. are just interested in people‟s clothesB. show more interest in people‟s ideasC. care more about their weightD. are more concerned about appearance13. When American youth fall in love with each other, they _________.A. will not hold each otherB. will rarely display their love in publicC. will always think about their futureD. will kiss wherever they like14. It can be inferred from the passage that French youth may think more about ______.A. their relationship‟s futureB. their public imagesC. their physical displaysD. their lover‟s ideas15. The passage is mainly about the______ between American youth and French youth.A. similaritiesB. friendshipC. differencesD. differences and the similarities第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

The new terms include weixin, or WeChat etc. There are also some older words recently used again and repurpos ed for contemporary(当代的) use, such as tuhao. Commonly used in the 1930s to refer to local persons who are rich but cruel, tuhao today laughs at a new privileged class that has appeared in : people who are “extremely wealthy but lacking in education or values.”But why did weixin and tuhao make the cut, while other popul ar terms were shut out? Not admitted to the new edition were such words as diaosi, shengnü, and baifumei.Li Xingjian, the chief editor of the dictionary, said about 30 lan guage experts worked for more than three years to select the new terms. They took into account three main considerations: whether the term has entered public topic, whether the use of the term has become stable and whether the term meets a m inimum level of tastefulness.“We considered and discussed a huge list,” Mr. Li said. “A ter m like diaosi is not very tasteful, and it’s unlikely to be used fo r much longer. And shengnü, we thought it wasn’t that signific ant. It’s used a lot by young people online, but otherwise peop le don’t really use it.”“On the other hand, tuhao has always been around. It has a mocking(嘲弄的) meaning, but it’s not necessarily negative,” he said. “We t hink it’ll stay around for a while, because in real life there reall y are these kinds of people and therefore a need to describe t hem.”The Dictionary of Modern Standard Chinese, first published in 2004, is appreciated especially by scholars and those interes ted in contemporary usage. Fill in the numbered b lanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer. Chinese parents are very generous when it comes to educatin g their children. Not caring about the money, parents often se nd their children to the best schools or even abroad to Englan d, the US or . They also want their children to take extra-course activities where they will either learn a musical instrum ent or ballet, or other classes that will give them a head start i n life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an educat ion is, the better it is. So parents will spend unreasonable am ount of money on education. Even poor couples will buy computers for their sons or daughters. However, what most parents fail to see is that the best educat ion they can give to their children is usually very cheap. Parents can see that their children’s skills vary, skilled in som e areas while poor in others. What most parents fail to realize though, is that today’s children lack self-respect and self-confidence.The reasons are that parents are only educating their children on how to take multiple-choice tests and how to study well, but parents are not teachi ng them the most important skills: they need to be confident, happy and clever.Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooki ng, sewing and doing other housework.Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that h e will need later in life. Cooking demands patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always t ries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of con fidence. These activities are not only teaching a child to work, but rather to think, and to use his mind. And that is more impo rtant.Section B (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Her son followed her. Dirty shoe prints cover ed her son’s clothes when the 12-year-old boy came to safety.“The crowd was in a panic. We stood in the crowd, feeling squ eezed and almost out of breath,” a boy said. “Some yelled for help, but the noise was too loud.”Other survivors said police rushed to the scene and tried to pull out people who were stuck, but without much success. The local authorities said that one of the victims was a female student from the Shanghai-based . The student, surnamed Du from , was fatally injured during the incident and died later in the hospital.“The chaos lasted several minutes, and then some of the injur ed were seen being carried out of the crowd,” Yu said. A(2015•山东省青岛市高三统一质量检测)What are American high schools like? Well, I‟m happy to tell you what I know. When I started school here, it had already been a week since the school opened. At this school, freshmen usually go on a trip for about three days at the beginning of school. Unfortunately I missed that wonderful trip, which would have been the best time to get to know my classmates. I was really s ad. I wished I‟d known about it earlier.Despite the disappointment, however, I gradually adapted to my new life and school. There is a space in the basement of the teaching building where students chat and meet each other. As we do not always have the same classrooms and classmates, the school wants us to get to know each other there. Students usually come to school early, sit in that space and have fun. Around the space, there are many lockers for students to leave their books in, so that students do not have to carry a heavy schoolbag everywhere. It really surprises me that we have almost no textbooks. We only have textbooks for World History and Algebra 2 and they are big and heavy, like bricks. For other classes, we only need binders (活页夹) with paper in them. Without textbooks, students learn things freely and actively. For example, my humanities teacher just teaches us what is in her mind at the time. We never know what we will learn.Another difference between American schools and Chinese schools is that American schools care about students‟ morality more than their academic studies. For example, if you do not finish your homework, you will just be asked to do it later, but if you cheat or lie, you will get a warning or even be kicked out.I think that most students here are good at schoolwork as well, but compared to Chinese students, they can make learning a more joyful experience. I think we should take the good points from our two different kinds of education to perfect our approach to studying.21. What was the writer sad for?A. He was late for school.B. He missed the trip at the beginning of school.C. He didn‟t know anyone.D. American students looked down upon him.22. Why do students go to the basement of the teaching building?A. To attend class.B. To share a classroom.C. To have fun.D. To meet teachers.23. How do teachers in the US teach the students?A. However they want to.B. They use bricks.C. Some use textbooks; some teach freely.D. They always teach as required.24. According to the passage, in American high schools, ________.A. you are likely to be kicked out if you cheatB. you‟ll be punished if you do not finish your hom eworkC. students are better at school work than Chinese studentsD. students care much about the grades they getB(2015·四川成都七中高三一诊模拟)The virus “Ebola” is named after the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That‟s where the virus was discovered in 1976. A person can only get Ebola through direct contact with an infected person‟s bodily fl uids, for example, sweat or spit. Additionally, the virus can get into your body through your eyes and mouth if those areas come into contact with something that contains the bodily fluids of an infected person. That‟s why health care workers are supposed to keep themselves completely covered while treating patients. The deadliest Ebola outbreak is spreading fast in Western Africa, taking over 900 lives so far. The health systems in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia are severely lacking in resources, and health care workers may not have access to adequate protective clothing when working in rural clinics, where the proper protections are lacking. Since Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia share a border; it‟s easier for people to move from one country to anoth er, increasing the risk for disease spread. The virus has a 2-to-21-day incubation (潜伏) period. It is systemic and can move to and affect every part of the body, causing direct damage to organs and internal bleeding. This causes shock, dropping a person‟s blood pressure and causing multi-system organ failure. For now, all doctors can do is to treat the symptoms and provide supportive care like monitoring heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing while making sure the patients‟ fluids are supplied. Sometimes patients are given antibiotics (抗生素) to treat other possible infections. The hope is to make the patient pull through the infection so their immune system can eventually clear the virus. The people who survive Ebola have created enough antibodies to kill it. This is harder to achieve in rural health systems in West Africa that are tasked with treating thousands of patients with poor resources. There are several promising drugs and vaccines in development, but since Ebola is less common—and research about it is not well funded — there is no drug or vaccine that has been approved for use in humans. Many of the other drugs and vaccines have not yet been tested in humans. The WHO (World Health Organization) is meeting next week to discuss whether experimental treatments should be used during this outbreak.25. According to the passage, Ebola only spreads through _____.A. polluted airB. bodily fluidsC. flying birdsD. river water26. Which is not the possible reason why Ebola spreads in West Africa quickly?A. The health resources are poor.B. Infected people are kept together.C. The protective clothing is adequate.D. Three western countries share a border.27. Why have there been no cures used for Ebola in humans so far?A. The drugs for Ebola are being developed now.B. Ebola is rare and its research money is lacking.C. Ebola does far more harm to patients than AIDS.D. The WHO hasn‟t decided whether to use them.28. Which of the following can be the best title?A. Help the poorest West Africa.B. No cure for the virus “Ebola”.C. How to treat Ebola patients.D. Introduction to the virus “Ebola”.C(2015•山东省泰安市高三下学期一模诊断测试)A team of scientists from University of Freiburg in Germany are developing a shoe with a sensor to automatically tie its laces(鞋带)that could be taken off when users click their heels together. It’s been 26 years since we saw them magically tightening Marty McFly’s Nike boots in the film Back to The Future.Now,self-tying shoelaces could actually become a reality this year, proving right one of the film’s fantastical predictions for what 2015 would be like.Engineers have designed a shoe that can automatically lace up,adjusting itself to the shape of your foot.Simply slip the controller on and pressure sensors will tell the …smart shoe‟ when your foot is in position, triggering(触发)a tiny motor in the heel that pulls the laces tight. When you want to take off the shoes, you click your heels together twice and the motor will release a spring(弹簧)in the shoe’s tongue, which loosens the laces enough for you to slip them off.And the invention doesn‟t even need to be plugged in to charge or have its battery re placedbecause it runs on power generated by the swing of your foot as you walk·Engineer K1evis Ylli,of the Institute for Micromachining and Information Technology in southern Gemany, said the shoes could help a variety of different people.“One focus is that it could be used in shoes for elderly people who have mobility problems,”he said.“But it could also work for children,or as a lifestyle product.”.The design, which is still in a prototype(雏形)stage, cleverly gets the energy of the foot’s swing when opposing magnets in each shoe move past each other. It then uses that power to charge a battery. An hour of walking is enough to tighten the laces once, and it requires no energy to undo the shoes because that relies on the spring alone.29.Which of the following can be the best title of the text?A.A fantastical prediction B.A great invention in GermanyC.A shoe with self-tying laces D.A popular lifestyle product30.What can we learn about the shoes?A.They can automatically take off.B.They can adjust themselves to your foot.C.They need to be charged once.D.They have been in design for 26 years.31.From the last paragraph we can know ____________.A.the shoes have been put into useB.the shoes need power to take offC.the shoes promise to be popularD.how the shoes work to produce energyD(2015·辽宁省沈阳市东北育才学校高三上学期第一次模拟)Justin Bieber may have millions of fans worldwide, but Russi a‟s bears don‟t appear to admire the pop singer‟s music—which proved fortunate for one lucky fisherman.Igor Vorozhbitsyn had his life saved by a Justin Bieber ringtone, when his mobile phone went off during a dangerous attack by a brown bear. The 42-year-old was attacked as he was walking to a favourite fishing spot in northernRussia‟s Yakutia Republic and firmly believed that he was going to be killed.Wildlife experts believe the ringtone must have frightened the bear into stopping its attack.…Sometim es a sharp shock can stop an angry bear in its attack and that ringtone would be a very unexpected sound for a bear,‟ explained one.Mr Vorozhbitsyn suffered from cuts and severe wounds and was rescued when he was found by other fishermen after using the phone to call for help.Mr V orozhbitsyn —now recovering from his wounds—explained: …I had parked my car and was walking towards the spot I‟d marked out when there was a tremendous impact on my back and the bear was on top of me.‟…I couldn‟t believe my luck when the phone went off and it run away.‟…I know that sort of ringtone isn‟t to everyone‟s taste but my granddaughter loaded it onto my phone for a joke,‟ he added.Adult brown bears can weigh as much as 600kg and have been known to kill wolves and even Siberian tigers. Finally, this is a proof that Justin Bieber is unbearable32. paperclip, made of steel wire bent into a looped()shape,is an instrument used to hold sheets of paper toget her. This common device is a wonder of simplicity and function. But where did this simple, cheap, and practical invention co me from?In the late 19th century, the most common way to hold papers together was by using a pin.Although the pin was an ine xpensive tool and was easily removable,it would 1eave holes in the ter,as steelvwire became more common, invent ors began to notice its elastic()feature.With this feature,it could be stretched and twisted into various clip-like objects. In the years just before 1900,quite a few paperclip designs appeared. The name most frequently associated with the paperclip invention is Johan Vaaler,a Norwegian inventor. However,Vaaler’s clips were not the same as the paperclips curr entlyin use.Specifically, they did not have the inside loop we see today. The familiar looped design was invented by Gem Manuf acturing Ltd.in England. This clip is therefore sometimes known as the Gem clip.Because of Vaaler, the paperclip played an important historical role in Norway.During World War II,Norway was occu pied by the Nazis.Norwegians were prohibited from wearing any symbol of their national unity(),such as buttons wi th the initials of their king. Thus,in protest, they started wearing paperclips to show their unity. The reason for doing this was simple:Paperclips were a Norwegian invention whose original function was to bind together. After the war,a giant papercli p statue was put up in Oslo to honour Vaaler—even though his design was never actually produced.25.According to the first paragraphthe paperclip is________.A.made of paperB.for holding clothes togetherC.shaped like a pinD.inexpensive and useful26.One way the paperclip is better than the pin is that_________A.it is cheaperB.it is simplerC.it doesn’t damage the paperD.it can be removed more easily27.Which of the following best shows what the Gem clip looks like?28.The last paragraph is mainly about_________.A.how widely used Vaaler’s clip isB.how V aalers clip became a national symbolC.how the Nazis ruled the Norwegian peopleD.why Norwegians had the initials of their king on their buttonsCI was born on the last day of February.I’ve always felt sorry for February, squeezed between the big months of January( named for the Roman god Janus, keeper of gateways)and March(after Mars, the god of war). The first Roman calendar,it is said, had 10 months and no February.Beginning at the vernal equinox()with March,i t ended with December. In an agricultural society, winter was of little importance, and thus went undivided.January and February were added about 700 B.C.by the second king of Rome,Numa Pompilius. He made all the months 29 or 31 days, but shortened February, the last month of the year,by giving it only 28.Next,it was the church’s turn.In 1582 Pope Gregory XIII announced a new calendar in Europe. Many changes were ma de,but the Pope passed up yet another chance to give February equality with the other months. It’s messy, even dangerous, changing how we measure time, but Pope Gregory was hardly the last one to try.The League o f Nations received over 150 new calendar designs, and the United Nations has considered more proposals since. Each propos al involves something that supposedly modernizes the calendar. But I have a simpler proposal that won’t lead to chaos, and will correct the historical injustices against Februarymove the last day of January and the last day of March into February to make it a normal month with 30 days, and a respecta ble 31 on leap years().This would not add or subtract a single day from the calendar year. It’s a great idea. And unlike J ulius and Augustus,I won’t even demand a month named in my honor.29.The first Roman calendar had only 10 months because_________.A.February hated to be squeezed between the big monthsB.the god of war always fought with January and FebruaryC.the Romans did not like the cold winter weatherD.it was Considered unnecessary to divide winter30.Which of the following is closest to Numa Pompilius’calendar?31.The writer sounds_____in the reading, vocabulary and overall enthusiasm. On the other hand,We learnt that she has work to do on her numbers and computer skills, though the detailed handwritten report her teachers prepared is absent of any words tha t might be interpreted as negative()in describing her efforts.A number System indicates how she’s measuring up in e ach area without any mention of passing or failing. The debate over whether formal grades should be given to kids has long existed. At one level, the advantages and disadva ntages are obvious.A grade system provides a straightforward standard by which to measure how your child is progressing a t school--and how he or she is getting on compared to other children. But as writer Sue Ferguson notes,Grades can deceive. ()The aim should be”to measure learning, not simply what a student can remember on a test.”The two aren’t the same-and if you doubt that as an adult, ask yourself whether you could sit down without any preparation and still pass those high-s chool-level examinations. If you’re old enough,You’ve lived through this debate before. At one time,it was considered unfair to put children in dire ct competition with one another if it could be avoided. The intention behind that may have been good, but it ignored the fact t hat competition, and the will to come out on top,are essential components of the human condition.32.Which of the following seems to be weak on the daughter’s kindergarten report card?A.Reading.B.V ocabulary.C.Enthusiasm.D.Numbers.33.what did the teachers try to do when preparing the report card?A.Avoid using negative words.B.Describe the facts as they really were.e numbers instead of words.D.Avoid showing weak areas.34.What does the writer suggest by the underlined part in Paragraph 2?A.Most adults can pass high-school-level examinations without preparation.B.There’s no doubt that most high-school-level examinations measure learning.C.As an adult, you should not doubt your ability to pass high-school-level examinations.D.It’s difficult for most adults to pass high-school-level examinations without preparation.35.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?A.Schools should not give formal grades to kids.B.Schools should give formal grades to kids.C.Giving formal grades to kids has no disadvantages at a11.D.It’s unfair to put children in direct competition with one another.第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

However, just fivepercent of women say they would turn to their sons for style advice, while 28 percent believe that mothers of boys are less fashionable than women with girls. “Women who don’t have daughters become less interested in style as they grow older but having a daughter may keep alive her interest in looking great,〞 comments psychologist Honey Langcaster-James. “And, because of their close relationship, they also have a source of support and encouragement when it comes to their style decisions.〞More than a quarter of women believe that Mums who have sons are less fashion-conscious than Mums with daughters. The most common reasons for this are that daughters are more critical, offer good advice and inspiration, and add an element of competition to look the best while sons don’t seem to care and aren’t as strict as daughters.Interestingly, although mothers tend to rely on their daughters’ style tips, their confidence isn’t reciprocated﹙互换﹚, with 40 percent of women between the age of 19 and 34 saying they wouldn’t allow their mothers to shop for them as what their mothers would choose for them would not be as good as they expected. And although they might not appreciate the fashion advice, the research, which was conducted by online retailer Gray & Osbourn, showed that daughters do still need their mothers with 71 percent saying they chat to their female parent every day. “In short, the research shows just how important relationships are between mothers and daughters,〞 added Langcaster-James, “and just how much women appreciate an honest and trustworthy opinion.〞61. The opening paragraph is mainly to show.A. mothers like to follow their children’s adviceB. women with children are often less stylishC. girls influenc e their mothers’ style decisionD. boys are actually better advisors than girls62. Which of the following may Langcaster-James agree with?A. Mothers without daughters show less interest in style.B. It’s hard for boys to get along well with their mothers.C. Daughters usually love their mothers more than sons do.D. Girls are more independent than boys in some ways.63. It can be inferred from the passage that girls.A. show more interest in science than boysB. are good at encouraging other peopleC. can help a lot to solve family problemsD. care more about what their mothers wear64. By saying “their confidence isn’t reciprocated〞 in Paragraph 5, the author means that.A. some women don’t like to choose clothes for their mothersB. some women aren’t sure what to wear when attending a partyC. some women would not like to follow t heir mothers’ style adviceD. some women often show no confidence in themselves65. What does the author mainly tell us in the passage?A. It confuses many parents how to talk with their kids.B. Mothers of girls are more fashionable than those of boysC. It is important for parents to respect their children’s choice.D. Daughters prefer to talk with their mums instead of dads.CThe world has a fast growing population and people need more land for houses, factories, highways, and so on. The farmland is decreasing with each passing day. How to meet the need of feeding the growing population? One way is to introduce some high-output gene into a crop to enable it to produce more. Biologists over the years have discovered genes which can raise output of the crops, resist pests, improve taste, etc. However, in many western countries there is widespread concern over the safety of“Genetically Modified〞(GM) (转基因) foods, because they think there may be serious problems of environment, health, safety, morality and so on.As a scientist I must admit GM foods involve great risks to humans. In fact in Europe they’re called “Frankenstein foods〞 by many. Frankenstein is a character in a novel. He was a very clever scientist. He created a monster〔怪物〕, which eventually killed him.Soybeans﹙大豆﹚can be made into many foods. However, it’s hard to trace them. Therefore, it’s very important we have to make sure the soybean, if genetically modified, is free from any poisonous matter harmful to human beings. For this we need very good testing. We do have some testing on some animals, but no completely satisfactory testing has ever been made so far. They’re entirely new, and their problems are entirely unknown. It takes time to develop persuasive tests to know whether the y’re harmful to us or not.We may not be able to tell what may happen if we take GM foods. Some of them may be resistant to antibiotics (抗生素). Then many of the medicines we have today will have no effect on people eating GM foods.A more likely case is the GM foods may contain genes some people are allergic﹙过敏的﹚to.GM products have already come into our lives, but most people even know nothing about it.At least we have to be clear about what we are eating. The China Consumers Association is calling for labeling (标注) on GM foods so that consumers will know before they buy them.66. The chief purpose of developing GM foods is to_______.A. make the foods much tastierB. make the foods much cheaperC. feed the fast growing populationD. kill pests on the crops67. From the passage we can infer that.A. Frankenstein was a scientist creating GM foodsB. GM foods are very popular in EuropeC. Frankenstein foods can make people cleverD. many Europeans reject GM foods68. The underlined phrase “trace them〞 in Para graph 4 probably means“ 〞.A. find their marketB. find their originsC. raise their qualityD. enjoy their taste69. Which of the following is TRUE about GM foods?A. The testing shows GM soybean foods are free from poisonous matter.B. GM foods problems have been known after testing on animals.C. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.Blueberries﹙蓝莓﹚ taste delicious whether eaten fresh or cooked. The bushes can be evergreen or deciduous (落叶性的) and usually grow to about 1.5m high.To be successful in growing blueberries, you should use the following tips. First of all, do preparation. Blueberries require light, free-draining acidic soils, with plenty of rich, organic matter if they are to thrive﹙茁壮成长﹚. The soil should have a lower pH of between 4 and 5.5. Monitor the soil’s pH every few years, because it may be necessary to add some acid. Then it comes to planting. Plant two different varieties of blueberries to ensure cross-pollination (异花授粉). A single blueberry plant will produce fruit, but the yields﹙果实﹚ will be higher and the fruit bigger if more than one plant is grown. They require a position in full sun or light shade. Plant blueberries in autumn or winter, leaving 1.5meter gaps between them, and cover their roots with a layer ﹙层﹚ of wood chippings or pine needles. Water them well, using rainwater rather than tap water if possible. The next thing is aftercare. Use nets to protect plants from birds in the fruiting season. Water plants regularly. They require water from when their buds﹙萌芽﹚begin to show in spring until their leaves fall in autumn. Again, remember to use rainwater. The fruit is ready to pick when it has turned a deep blue. The fruit should easily pull away when ripe. However, leave the blueberries on the bush for a few more days after they turn blue for a more intense and complex flavor. They must be picked or they will drop.Lastly, you need to prune (修剪) blueberries. Blueberries produce fruit on branches that were produced the previous year. For the first two or three years of a blueberry's life it’s not necessary to prune it much, apart from keeping the plant tidy. After this, blueberries need regular pruning to maintain plant vigor and high quality berry production.Section B (10 marks) Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.I always do voluntary work in the hospital. As a patient visitor, my primary goal is to deliver quality services to patients and families. By providing companionship for patients in a sometimes lonely environment, I try my best to serve and help to reduce the loneliness and frustration patients may feel after staying in a hospital for a stretch of time for weeks or even months.Every Saturday afternoon for three to four hours, with a list of patients whohave requested a patient visitor service, I head up to the 5th, 6th, or 7th floorto first visit my priority patients. At the nurse’s station, I kindly ask the nurses or the medical staff about the condition of the patients on that unit and confirm that the patients would like a visitor. After receiving an update from the nurse, I ge ntly knock on the door of the patients and enter with a friendly “hello〞. Then, I introduce myself and again politely ask if they would like a patient visitor.I usually try to prepare a few starting conversation topics such as the current news, sports scores and fun facts. However, the patients usually engage me first in an interesting conversation. When volunteering as a patient visitor, I spent a lot of time communicating one-on-one with patients. Individual patients had individual needs and possessed extraordinary personal stories. Therefore, I found every visit fascinating. From generous and kind patients, I have learned about their diseases and their course of treatment. Additionally, I learned about literature, life during the Great Depression and wilderness of Northern Minnesota. On the whole, not only did I learn about the hospital settings and system, but I learned about the diverse life of others. Many of the patients I have visited were truly inspiring and I always admire them for their strength. Although difficult, they were often willing to share their stories of pain, suffering, hopes and optimism. I realize that I am truly grateful and honored that they would share their personal stories with just a volunteer like me.81. How does the author try his best to serve and help to reduce the loneliness and frustration of the patients in hospital? (No more than 10 words )82. What are the topics the author prepares for the patients? (No more than 8 words)83. What did the author learn from her talking with the patients? (No more than 12 words)84. ill.()A.I would rather not doB.I'd rather not have doneC.I shouldn't doD.I'd better not do【答案】B【解析】答案B.A项"我宁愿没责怪她(事实上并没有责怪她)";C项"我不应该那样做(责怪她)";D项"我最好没做(责怪她)";B项"我宁愿没责怪她(事实上已经责怪她了)";根据答语"Yes,"可知,我过去已责怪过她,但当我知道"她父亲病得很重时",我就后悔当初的行为,宁愿自己没有责怪她,这里是一种虚拟语气.因此B项符合语境,故选B.----你因为她在工作中的错而责怪/责骂她了吗?----是的,但我真宁愿没那么做.(后悔当初的行为.).她的父亲病得很严重.本题考查情景交际.解答此类题目首先应该读懂句意,分析上下文语境和逻辑关系.其次对每个选项中的交际用语的适用情况要掌握,根据语境锁定正确答案.关键平时学习中要对交际用语多积累多总结反复记忆.2.---Who's that at the door?---_____ is the courier.(快递员)()A.HeB.ThatC.ThisD.It【答案】D【解析】答案:D作为人称代词,it可以用来指东西、动物、婴儿和未确定身份的人.在本句中指的是不知道是谁,用it来指代.比较特殊的情况还有打电话的时候,问方问的时候用that,答方回答用this.句意为:--是谁在敲门?--是快递员.考查此类试题,要清楚代词是指代上文的什么内容,根据上文所提事物或人,选择正确的人称代词.3.Today,we will begin ____ we stopped yesterday so that no point will be left out.()A.whenB.whatC.howD.where【答案】D【解析】答案:D 本题考查状语从句的连接词,begin后面的是状语从句.根据句意可知是"从…首先要分析句中含有什么从句,从分析句子成分着手.本句中主语是we,谓语是will begin, where we stopped yesterday是状语从句,不是主干的句子.因此stop是动词但是不是主句的谓语4.You can't imagine a well-dressed lady ______ be so rude to the old woman.()A.mightB.needC.shouldD.would【答案】C【解析】答案C.A项"也许,可能";B"必需,需要";D项"将会;过去(常常)";C项"竟然;应该";根据题干信息可知,一般而言,穿着很好的女士应该是自身素质高,有修养、内涵的人,然而却对老人粗鲁,这实在是让人匪夷所思,出乎意外.因此C项符合语境,故选C.你很难想象一个衣着光鲜的女士竟然会对一位老妇人如此粗鲁.本题考查情态动词.解答此类题目关键是要读懂句意,并且对每个情态动词的基本用法和特殊用法都要熟知,然后根据语境辨析锁定答案.5.---Come on,Ham.There's no time left.---_____ and I'll get the work finished.()A.Have five more minutesB.Five more minutesC.Given five more minutesD.If I have five more minutes【答案】B【解析】答案B.本题采用排除法.A项应该把Have改成Having,主语I与have是主动关系,用现在分词形式,然后去掉and,故排除;C项主语I与give是被动关系,"我被给与"所以用过去分词形式,但要去掉and,即"Given five more minutes,I'll get the work finished."过去分词短语作条件状语.故排除.D项应把If去掉应为If是一个连词而and也是一个连词,英语的一个句子中不能有两个连词,要么是If I have fivemore minutes,I'll get the work finished.要么是I have five moreminutes and I'll get the work finished,故排除.B项虽然初看只是一个名词短语,不能独立成句,但是实际上这是一个省略句,相当于祈使句Give five more minutes, and I'll get the work finished.这里是"祈使句/名词短语,and+一般将来时的句子"结构.故选B.句意:---快点,Ham.没有时间剩下了.---给我五分钟的时间,我就会完成工作了.本题考查情景交际.解答此类题目首先应该读懂句意,分析上下文语境和逻辑关系.其次对每个选项中的交际用语的适用情况要掌握,根据语境锁定正确答案.关键平时学习中要对交际用语多积累多总结反复记忆.6.With all the books he needed _____,he left the library, feeling satisfied.()A.borrowedB.borrowingC.borrowD.to borrow【答案】A分析句子结构可知,句中有"with复合结构"由with+名词+doing/done/to do/adj/adv/n/prep"等构成复合结构,在本题中"he needed"是定语从句,修饰先行词books, books与borrow 是被动关系,即书是被借的,应该用过去分词作宾补,故选D.句意:需要的书都借好之后,他开心地离开了图书馆.本题考查非谓动词用法.解答此类题目首先要读懂句意分析句子结构,判断分词在句中所作的成分."with"复合结构中,若宾语与宾补是主动关系则用doing,被动关系用done,表将来用to do.7.The manager decided to give the job to ____ he believed had a strong sense of responsibilit y.()A.whomeverB.whoeverC.whoD.those【答案】B【解析】答案:B这是一个复合句,主句句子主干为The manager decided to give the job to whoever…(经理把工作交给任何人),从句主干为whoever had a strong sense.其中从句中含有一个定语从句--whoever he believed(他相信的任何人).whoever在主句中引导to的宾语从句,在主句中作宾语;而从句中缺少一个主语,因而,whoever又在从句中作主语.即:he believes (that)sb.had strong sense of duty.应用主格形式whoever,而不是whomever,故选B.句意为:经理决心用任何他认为有责任心的人去做这件工作.当我们在选择whoever 和whomever的时候,不是看它在主句中做什么成分,而是在它所引导的从句中的成分,像这句话whoever在主句中做give的宾语,但在从句中却做主语.8.Did you catch what I said?Sorry.I _____ a text message just now.()A.was sendingB.had sentC.have sentD.would send【答案】A【解析】答案A.根据上下文语境可知,对方刚才在"说话者"说话时正在发短信,故没听清楚所说的话.即表示过去某个时间或某一段时间正在进行的动作,应该用过去进行时,因此A项符合语境,故选A.---你听懂我说的话了吗?----对不起,我刚才正在发短信.本题考查时态的用法.解答此类题目的关键是要读懂句意,分析上下文的语境,判断时态,锁定答案.9.In most middle schools, students never seem to have time to enjoy themselves until after 6:00pm,_____ many adults have gone home.()A.whose timeB.that timeC.by which timeD.on which time【答案】C分析句子结构可知,逗号之前是主句,逗号之后是非限制性定语从句.句中先行词是主句中的"after 6:00pm",根据句意"而到那个时候"可知,这里是由by which time 引出的是一个非限制性定语从句,其中by which time 相当于and by that timemany adults have gone home,因此C项符合语境,故选C.句意:在大多数中学,孩子们(学生们)似乎直到晚上6点才有时间开心地玩,而到那个时候,许多大人们(成年人)都已回家了.本题考查非限制性定语从句.解答此类题目首先要分析句子结构,非限制性定语从句中逗号是一个明显的标志,然后分析非限制性定语从句中的成分,如果缺成分用关系代词,如果不缺成分用关系副词.10.Experts say young Chinese students'eyesight keeps dropping_____ because of both too m uch homework and poor learning conditions.()A.sharplyB.narrowlyC.automaticallyD.roughly【答案】A【解析】答案A.B项"狭窄地;勉强地";C项"自动地;机械地;无意识地";D项"粗糙地;概略地;粗鲁地";A项"急剧地";根据语境可知,有人认为"both too much homework and poor learning conditions"导致了"young Chinese students'eyesight keeps dropping",太多作业和不良学习条件导致学生视力下降,而这种情况随着时间推移,(若不重视保护)视力会越来越差,因此A项符合语境,故选A.句意:有人说中国青年学生的视力急剧下降是因为太多的家庭作业和不良的学习条件.本题考查副词的辨析.解答此类题目首先要读懂句意,理解每个选项副词的意思,然后根据上下文语境锁定合适的副词词.平时要加强副词的积累.II、完形填空(本大题共38小题,共58.5分)The I was going home to India last year,I called up my mother to ask if she wanted anything from China. When India had not opened up its markets to the world,I carried suitcase full of dark glasses and jeans.Thankfully,we can get all these anywhere in India now.As long as I can remember, she didn't even drink India tea.I dutifully bought a big packet of Longjing and headed home to hear the story. My mother and her brother, both regular newspaper readers, believed that Chinese green tea was the wonder drug for all illness. At the turn of the century,China was not really familiar to the average Indian. It was a strange country. How things change! And how soon! Now every town of any size seems to have a"China Market".And everyone is talking about China. The government of India has planned to send a team to China to see how things are done.A minister once said that India must open the doors for more foreign investment and such a step would"work wonders as it did for China".But it's a two-way street.I just heard about a thousand Shenzhen office workers who have gone to Bangalore to train in software.Meanwhile, all the India IT majors are setting up a strong presence in China. No wonder that trade, which was only in the millions just ten years ago,is expected to hit about US 15billion for last year and US20 billion by 2008,a goal set by both government. No wonder,my colleague wrote some weeks ago about this being the Sino-Indian century as the two countries started on January 1 the Sino-Indian Friendship Year. But what is still wonder to me is my mother drinking Chinese tea.49.Why did the mother ask for Chinese tea?______C.She believed it had a curing effect.D.She was fond of Chinese products.50.What does the author mean by"it's a two-way street"in Paragraph 10?______A.China and India have different traffic rules.B.Tea trade works wonders in both India and China.C.Chinese products are popular in both China and India.D.The exchanges between India and China benefit both.51.What do we know about the Indian IT industry?______A.It will move its head office to Shenzhen.B.It is seeking further development in China.C.It has attracted an investment of US $15 billion.D.It caught up with the US IT industry in 2008.52.In the text the author expresses ______ .A.his concern for his mother's healthB.his support for drinking Chinese green teaC.his surprise at China's recent developmentD.his wonder at the growth of India's IT industry.【答案】【小题1】C 【小题2】D 【小题3】B 【小题4】C【解析】31.C 推理判断题.根据第四段句子My mother and her brother, both regular newspaper readers, believed that Chinese green tea was the wonder drug for all illness.她们觉得中国绿茶治百病,由此推理可知,答案为C.32.D 推理判断题.根据第八段及第九段内容可以推理--第八段讲印度政府派送人员到中国,第九段讲到中国深圳的公司派遣人员到印度,因此可以推理为双方互惠交流.答案为D.33.B 推理判断题.从倒数第三段的句子:Meanwhile, all the IT majors are setting up a strong presence in China.可知印度的IT产业正在中国寻求进一步发展.选A.34.C 作者情感态度推测.从句子How things change! And how soon! BTaking an exam has an evil twin called"cheating".And some Chinese and South Korean high school students have recently had a real taste of its bitterness(痛苦).They took the SAT,the US version of the college entrance exam,on Oct.11,expecting to get their results on Oct.30.However,what they found in their mailbox was an email saying that控)of cheating. An international official said that some students at the test centers in Asian countries had been caught checking their smart phones to get answers to SAT questio n while taking the exam. The incident has gotten worldwide attention as China and South Korean are the top two supplies of foreign university students in the US.If the cheating is confirmed, those students'scores could be cancelled, which worried many students,as Oct.11's test was the last SAT test this year and early applicants to US universities were due on Nov.1.However,the College Board, which developed the SA T,said that the review was to make sure that test-takers received valid(真实的)scores.Meanwhile, universities such as George Washington University have said that a delay in score reporting would not disadvantage applicants from those countries.Although there are more than 1,000 testing centers outside the US in more than 175 countries, the only testing allowed in China is at international schools, which means most Chinese students have to go to Hong Kong or another country to take the SAT.The problem of cheating in exams isn't unique to China.Last May,the College Board canceled an SAT testing date in South Korean after tutoring (辅导)companies were suspected to have illegally gotten SAT testing materials before the test.In 2011,twenty US students were arrested in Long Island,New York for hiring other students to take the SAT for them.53.Why didn't the students get their test results on Oct.30?______A.Because some students were dishonest in the exam.B.Because some were accused of copying others'answers.C.Because they did very badly in the exam.D.Because they received the wrong email.54.What may happen if the cheating is proved?______A.They will lose many points.B.The exam will be canceled for ever.C.They will not be admitted to US universities.D.They will be arrested by the US police.55.If the scores prove valid, their admissions will be according to the George Washington University.______A.canceledB.delayedC.advancedD.unaffected56.How many cases of cheating are ment ioned in the passage?______A.Two.B.Three.C.Four.D.Five.【答案】【小题1】A 【小题2】C 【小题3】D 【小题4】B【解析】35.A.细节理解题:根据文章第一段"However,what they found in their mailbox was an email saying that their test scores would be reviewed and delayed for up to a month becauseof accusation(指控)of cheating"可知,由于被指控作弊,所以他们的测试成绩会进行审查,延迟长达一个月的时间;故选A.36.C.细节理解题:根据"If the cheating is confirmed, those students'scores could be cancelled,"可知,如果作弊被证实,那些学生的分数将会被取消,他们将不会被录取到美国的大学.故选C.37.D.推理判断题:根据"universities such as George Washington University have said that a delay in score reporting would not disadvantage applicants from those countries."乔治华盛顿大学等高校都表示,成绩报告的延迟不会损害这些国家的申请人,可知,如果分数是真实的,他们的录取不会受到影响.故选D.38.B.细节理解题:通读全文,有三个作弊案例被提到"the US version of the college entrance exam""an SAT testing date in South Korean""In 2011,twenty US students were arrested in Long Island,New York". CIf With 97% of the world's wat er too salty to be drunk or used in agriculture, the worldwide s upply of water needs careful management, especially in agric ulture. Although the idea of a water shortage seems strange t o someone fortunate enough to live in a high rainfall country, many of the world's agricultural industries experience constan t water shortages.Although dams can be built to store water for agricultural use i n dry areas and dry seasons, the costs of water redistribution(重新分配)are very high. Not only is there the cost of the engineering i tself, but there is also an environmental cost to be considered. Where valleys are flooded to create dams, houses are lost an d wildlife homes destroyed. Besides, water may flow easily thr ough pipes to fields, but it cannot be transported from one sid e of the world to the other. Each country must therefore rely o n the management of its own water to supply its farming requi rements. This is particularly troubling for countries with agricultural indu stries in areas dependent on irrigation (灌溉). In , farmers' overuse of irrigation water has resulted in a 2 5% reduction of the water stores. In the Central Valley area of southwestern , a huge water engineering project provided wa ter for farming in dry valleys, but much of the water use has b een poorly managed.'s attempts to grow wheat in desert areas have seen the pum ping of huge quantities of irrigation water from underground re serves. 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A We all have our ways of marking time. As a photographer, my life is measured from one story to the next. My oldest son was born in the middle of a long story about the Endangered Species Act. My daughter came along with a pack of gray wolves. Twenty stories later, though, it’s the story in Alaska that I’ll remember best. It was the story about the loss of wilderness — and the story during which my wife Kathy got cancer. That’s the one that made time stand still. I stopped taking pictures on the day when she found that tumor (肿瘤). Cruelly, it was Thanksgiving. By Christmas, she had become very weak. Some days she was so sick she couldn’t watch TV. Early examination saves time. But ours was not early. By the time you can feel it yourself, it ’s often bigger than the doctor want it to be. Cancer is a thief. It steals time. Our days are already short with worry. Then comes this terrible disease, unfair as storm at harvest time. But cancer also has the power to change us, for good. We learn to simplify, enjoying what we have instead of feeling sorry for what we don’t. Cancer even made me a better father. My work had made me a stranger to my three kids. But now I pay attention to what really matters. This is not a race. This is a new way of life and new way of seeing, all from the cancer. In the end each of us has so little time. We have less of it than we can possibly imagine.
