Professor Deborah Tannen, of Georgetown University, has noticed differences in the style of boys' and girls' conversations from an early age. According to her study, little girls' conversation is less clear than boys' and expresses more doubts. 2These differences will continue into adult life, she says. In public conversations, men talk most and interrupt other speakers more than women do. In private conversations, men and women speak in almost equal amounts. 3 Professor Tannen believes that, for women, private talking is a way to establish and test intimacy (亲密). For men, private talking is a way to explore the power structure (结构) of a relationship.4 “When a woman teaches another woman,” says Professor Tannen, “she is more likely to take a sharing approach and to encourage her student to join in. When a man teaches a woman, however, he wants to show that he has more knowledge and power in conversation.5 ”Some scientists who are studying speech think that the brain is preprogrammed for language. American football, however, uses a ball that is pointy (尖的) on both ends. While it does include some kicking, there is more throwing and catching involved. In football, there are 11 players from each team on the field at one time. Each team tries to move the ball across the opposing team's goal line to score. The quarterback (四分卫) throws the ball, and the person who catches it tries to run past the opposing team's players. The way to stop someone running with the ball is to tackle him. That means hitting right against him and trying to knock him down to the ground. 2The biggest professional football organization in the US is the National Football League (NFL). The NFL championship game is called the Super Bowl, and it is one of the most watched television events around the globe. 3 For example, millions of toilets are flushed (冲洗) at the same time during half-time. Also, 14,500 tons of chips are consumed during the game. Most sports fans are happy with just sitting in the stands and cheering on their teams. 4 They dress themselves in their team's colors. Some of the excitement happens before the games even begin. Fans gather and hang out in the parking lots outside the stadiums and have huge parties. 5 There are also endless amounts of sodas and beers. B.Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.C.They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise.D.It’s just as important to show yourself some forgiveness.E.It doesn’t mean you have to ignore what’s happened or forget it.F.Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.G.Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality.【正确答案】36 37.B37.B 38.F 39.C 40.G【导语】本文为一篇说明文。
文章鼓励人们练习自我宽恕,并提供了一个简单的写作练习来增强自信。
通过列出个人的优点和善良的行为,人们可以学会原谅自己的错误,并从中成长。
36.空前内容“Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. To err (犯错) is human. (为错误承担责任是积极的一步,但不要因此而自责。
人孰能无过)”可知,作者认为人都会犯错,勇于承担责任固然重要,但是也不要因此而过于自责。
结合空后“You can use the following writing exercise to help you do this.
This layer……

AYou must have written your research paper, your personal essay, your book review-----whatever your school class requires. You think you have provided good information in the needed number of words.___16___But is it really done? Many teachers and professional writers believe that writing is revision.___17___Revision of writing is a necessary skill for students. The classroom is a good place to practice patience, concentration and listening. There are rewards with spending time with your thoughts and really taking time to compose your ideas in an orderly and reasonable way. You should put away your paper after you have written a first version, or draft. Wait several hours, maybe overnight, before working on it more.___18___ Not only are you refreshed, but you’re looking at things through different eyes. That’s what revision literally means—to see again through different eyes.Following a four-step process may help you with your paper. The first step in the process is invention. It includes forming many questions about your subject. It is called “question-storming”.___19___Then comes the revision period. Take your time to read what you’ve written, to think about it, and maybe to re-shape it based on what you see now, as a kind of new person looking at it with a reader’s eyeglasses rather than a writer’s. The fourth step is called “publication”.____20____In a sense, anytime you turn it over to another person, that’s publication. Probably, the process takes away some of the tension of writing. And worry about the quality of your writing often disappears when you share that writing.A. Perfect writing is not possible.B. In the second step, you draft and compose a paper.C. And you feel good because your work is finished.D. This is just like returning to a job after a vacation.E. This does not mean your writing is professional publication.F. What is most important is getting your thoughts and ideas on paper.G. In other words, writing well means making needed changes and rewriting.BEvery animal sleeps, but the reason for this has remained foggy. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month. 71One idea is that sleep helps us strengthen new memories. 72 We know that, while awake, fresh memories are recorded by reinforcing (加强)connections between brain cells, but the memory processes that take place while we sleep have been unclear.Support is growing for a theory that sleep evolved so that connections between neurons(神经元)in the brain can be weakened overnight, making room for fresh memories to from the next day. 73Now we have the most direct evidence yet that he is right. 74 The synapses in the mice taken at the end of a period of sleep were 18 per cent smaller than those taken before sleep, showing that the connections between neurons weaken while sleeping. If Tononi’s theory is right, it would explain why, when we miss a night’s, we find it harder the next day to concentrate and learn new information-our brains may have smaller room for new experiences.Their research also suggests how we may build lasting memories over time even though the synapses become thinner. The team discovered that some synapses seem to be protected and stayed the same size. 75 “You keep what matters,” Tononi says.A. We should also try to sleep well the night before.B. Ti’s as if the brain is preserving its most important memories.C. Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick.D. The processes take place to stop our brains becoming loaded with memories.E. That’s why students do better in tests if they get a chance to sleep after learning.F. “Sleep is the price we pay for learning,” says Gi ulio Tononi, who developed the idea.G. Tononi’s team measured the size of these connections, or synapses, in the brains of 12 mice.CLots of people find it hard to get up in the morning and put the blame on the alarm clock. In fact, the key to easy morning wake-up lies in resting your body clock36 Here is how to make one.● 37 In order to make a change, you need to decide why it's important. Do you want to get up in time to have breakfast with your family, get in some exercise, or just be better prepared for your day? If you’re tired out by Friday night, sleeping in on Saturday could sound wonderful. But compensating on the weekends actually feeds into your sleepiness the following week, a recent study found.39●Keep a record and evaluate it weekly. Keep track of your efforts and write down how you feel. After you’ve tried a new method for a wee k, take a look at your record. 40 If not, take another look at other methods you could try.A. Get a sleep specialist.B. Find the right motivation.C. A better plan for sleep can help.D. And consider setting a second alarm.E. If the steps you take are working, keep it up.F. Stick to your set bedtime and wake-up time, no matter the day.G. Reconsider the 15 minutes you spend in line at the ca fé to get coffee.DHow to Do Man-on-the-Street InterviewsThe man-on-the-street interview is an interview in which a reporter hits the streets with a cameraman to interview people on the spot. 31 But with these tips, your first man-on-the-street interview experience can be easy.●When your boss or professor sends you out to do man-on-the-street interviewsfor a story, think about the topic and develop a list of about ten general questions relating to it. For example, if your topic is about environmental problems in America, you might ask, "Why do you think environmental protection is important in America?" 32●Hit the streets with confidence. 33 Say, "Excuse me, I work for XYZ News, and I was wondering if you could share your opinion about this topic."This is a quick way to get people to warm up to you.●Move on to the next person if someone tells you she is not interested in talkingon camera. Don’t get discouraged.● 34 Each inter view that you get on the street shouldn’t be longer than ten minutes. As soon as you get the answer you need, move on to the next person. Make sure that as you go from interview to interview, you are getting a variety ofanswers. If everyone is giving you the same answer, you won’t be able to use it.A safe number of interviews to conduct is about six to ten. 35●If your news station or school requires interviewees to sign release forms to appear on the air, don’t leave work without them.A. (2023年新高考I卷)When John Todd was a child, he loved to explore the woods around his house, observing how nature solved problems. A dirty stream, for example, often became clear after flowing through plants and along rocks where tiny creatures lived. When he got older, John started to wonder if this process could be used to clean up the messes people were making. After studying agriculture, medicine, and fisheries in college, John went back to observing nature and asking questions. Why can certain plants trap harmful bacteria (细菌)? Which kinds of fish caneat cancer-causing chemicals? With the right combination of animals and plants, he figured, maybe he could clean up waste the way nature did. He decided to build what he would later call an eco-machine.The task John set for himself was to remove harmful substances from some sludge (污泥). First, he constructed a series of clear fiberglass tanks connected to each other. Then he went around to local ponds and streams and brought back some plants and animals. He placed them in the tanks and waited. Little by little, these different kinds of life got used to one another and formed their own ecosystem. After a few weeks, John added the sludge. He was amazed at the results. The plants and animals in the eco-machine took the sludge as food and began to eat it! Within weeks, it had all been digested, and all that was left was pure water.Over the years, John has taken on many big jobs. He developed a greenhouse — like facility thattreated sewage (污水) from 1,600 homes in South Burlington. He also designed an eco-machine to clean canal water in Fuzhou, a city in southeast China.“Ecological design” is the name John gives to what he does. “Life on Earth is kind of a box of re parts for the inventor,” he says. “You put organisms in new relationships and observe what’s happening. Then you let these new systems develop their own ways to self-repair.”24.What can we learn about John from the first two paragraphs?A.He was fond of traveling.B.He enjoyed being alone.C.He had an inquiring mind.D.He longed to be a doctor.25.Why did John put the sludge into the tanks?A.To feed the animals.B.To build an ecosystem.C.To protect the plants.D.To test the eco-machine.26.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Fuzhou?A.To review John’s research plans.B.To show an application of John’s idea.C.To compare John’s different jobs.D.To erase doubts about John’s invention. 27.What is the basis for John’s work?A.Nature can repair itself.B.Organisms need water to survive.C.Life on Earth is diverse.D.Most tiny creatures live in groups.【正确答案】24.C 25.D 26.B 27.A【导语】这是一篇记叙文。
