⑴Phytochemicals: nonnutrient compounds in plantderived foods that have biological activity in the body(p 8 in Nutrition concepts and conroversies). ⑵Phytochemicals: biologically active, naturally existing substances in plants that act as natural defense systems in plants and show potential for reducing risk for cancer and cardiovascular disease(p 303 in Food, Nutrition, &Diet Therapy).
Lesson 15: The Sporting SpiritThere seems to be a great misunderstanding on the partof the public with regard to the sporting spirit. Some people define it as a fierce desire to win which inspires athletes to compete for personal glory. These people forget, however, that a true sportsman will not only win but will win fairly. He will not take an unfair advantage of his opponent but will compete on equal terms. In the Olympic Games, for example, where the motto is ‘not to win but to take part’, athletes are not expected to sacrifice the virtues of sportsmanship for the sake of winning. The sporting spirit basically means respect for the opponent. To play well and to win honorably is the spiritof the game. A player should not aim to hurt his opponentor to destroy the latter’s chances of winning by unfair means. Both should compete fairly so that the better man wins. Any deliberate attempt to inflict injury is not only against the rules but is contrary to the spirit of the game.Another element of the sporting spirit is tolerance. A true sportsman will always be tolerant of others, whether they win or lose. He will not lose his temper or become abusive when his opponent does better than he does. He willaccept defeat gracefully and will not gloat over victory. The true sportsman plays for the sake of the game itself. For him, sport is not a battle but a means of self-expression.Winning and losing are both part of the game. A true sportsman realizes that every defeat is a challenge. He tries to learn from his defeats and better himself. Thus, the sporting spirit is essentially a spirit of humility. It recognizes that defeat is not necessarily a sign of weakness but an opportunity for progress. In the final analysis, it can be said that the sporting spirit is a way of life. It embodies the belief that the game must be played fairly and that the opponent must be respected. It demands self-control, tolerance, and generosity. A true sportsman is not only a winner but a gentleman as well.。
module5 A life in sport 课文
A Life in SportThey called him the prince ofgymnasts. When he retired at the age of26, he had won 106 gold medals in majorcompetitions across the world. Theyincluded six out of seven gold medals atthe 1982 World Championship, and threeat the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles (aswell as two silver and a bronze). Li Ning was the best. When sports journalists met in 1999 to make a list of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of the twentieth century, Li Ning's name was on it, together with footballer Peléand boxer Muhammad Ali. But even though he had won everything it was possible to win in his sport, Li Ning retired with the feeling that he had failed. He was disappointed because he had not performed well in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. But it was this sense of failure that made him determined to succeed in his new life. A year after his retirement, Li Ning began a new career —as a businessman. But he didn't forget his sporting background. He decided to launch a new brand of sportswear, competing with global giants like Nike and Adidas. He made the unusual choice, for a Chinese person, of choosing his own name as the brand mark. The bright red logo is made up of the first two pinyin letters of Li Ning's name, L and N.Li Ning's sports clothes came onto the market at just the right time. The number of young people with money to spendwas on the increase— and sport had never been so popular. Li Ning's designs were attractive, and they had a major advantage over their better-known rivals — they were cheaper.A pair of Nike trainers, for example, could cost up to five times as much as a similar Li Ning product. Success for Li Ning was guaranteed, and it came quickly. In just a few years, Li Ning won more than fifty percent of the national market. Today a Li Ning product is purchased every ten seconds. But the clothes are not only worn on the athletics track or the football pitch. If you go into a school or university anywhere, the chances are you will see students in Li Ning tracksuits with the familiar logo. The company has also grown internationally. The Spanish and French gymnastics teams wear Li Ning clothes, while Italian designers are employed by the company to create new styles. Whenever Chinese athletes step out onto the track during the 2008 Olympics, they will be wearing Li Ning tracksuits. But Li Ning's goal when he retired was not to make money. His dream was to open a school for gymnasts. He was able to do this in 1991. Since then, he has continued to help young people to achieve their sporting ambitions. Like Pelé and Muhammad Ali before him, who have worked with the United Nations for children's rights and peace, Li Ning has discovered that the work of a great sportsman does not finish when he retires from the sport. It starts. And if you are a great sportsperson, anything is possible, as Li Ning's advertising slogan says.。
2023版新教材高考英语一轮总复习Unit2单元主题训练新人教版选择性必修第三册(含答案)
新教材高考英语一轮总复习:UNIT 2 单元主题训练Ⅰ.阅读理解When you think of boxing, you may picture greats like former world heavyweight boxing champions Rocky Marciano and Jersey Joe Walcott. But boxing isn't just a sport anymore. It's also a popular way to stay fit, through a version known as fitness boxing, which has adapted the movements of the sport into exercise routines.Unlike traditional boxing that requires someone else for practice, fitness boxing involves throwing punches (重拳击打) at the air or at a punching bag, usually in a class. There are two main types of these exercise classes. In one, you follow a leader and do a series of boxing moves to music, similar to an aerobics (有氧运动) class. The moves include a combination of large, sweeping punches; smaller punches; and short, quick steps forward and back. The other type of exercise class involves strength training, stretching, and hitting a punching bag.“This kind of boxing has many health benefits, because it constantly requires you to think and change your position,” says physical therapist Linda Arslanian. Though there's no proof that fitness boxing is superior to any other types of exercise, it does strengthen bones and muscles, burn more calories, improve balance and even lift your mood. However, fitness_boxing_may_not_be_right_up_your_street. “I'd say you'd have to be very careful if you have hand problems. In that case, you should consider shadow boxing only, and make sure your hands don't make contact with a target,” says Arslanian. With any activity that is potentially aerobic, you should check with your physician before starting.“If you're interested in trying this exercise to change up your routine, you'll likely find classes at health clubs or community centres. And if you do start a class, remember to take it slowly. Also, it's not about high intensity. It's about consistency,” she adds.语篇解读:文章主要介绍了健身拳击的类型、好处及注意事项。

Those accomplishments, coupled with her multiple victories in world diving championships, elevated her to the status of most outstanding diver in the history of the sport.Guo grew up in Baoding,China,a city located about 90 miles (140 kilometers)south of Beijing. At seven she was “discovered” at her elementary school by diving coach Yu Fen,who had risen to prominence coaching Olympic champion Fu Mingxia. Guo,who went to live at the sportsschool where Yu coached, progressed rapidly under her mentors guidance. At 14 she was selected for Chinas Olympic team and made her international debut at the 1996 Atlanta Games. She finished fifth, but it was clear that the teenager had the talent, the willingness to work hard, and a certain, indefinable flair for her sport that made her something special.Yu retired after the Atlanta Games, and Guo transferred to coach Zhou Jihong, who had become Chinas first Olympic diving champion in 1984. Under Zhou, she won silver medals in both the 3?Metre springboard and 3? Meter synchronized events at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Training for five to seven hours a day,she won double gold at the world championships in 2001,2003,2005,2007,and 2009,to go along with her two gold’s at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.Guo was one of the top favorites to win gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. 对缺乏运动的人提建议的英语作文
对缺乏运动的人提建议的英语作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Don't Be a Lazy Couch Potato! Get Up and Move!Hi there! My name is Tommy and I'm 10 years old. I love playing outside, running around, and being active. But I have some friends who just sit around all day playing video games or watching TV. It makes me sad to see them being so lazy!If you don't exercise and move your body, you're going to turn into a big couch potato! And nobody wants to be a couch potato, right? Being a lazy blob is no fun at all. You'll get fat, you'll feel tired all the time, and you won't be able to do fun stuff like play sports or go on adventures. So if you're one of those people who doesn't get enough exercise, you need to listen up! I'm going to give you some tips on how to get off your butt and start being active. It's really important for your health to move around every day. Trust me, once you get into the habit, you'll feel so much better! The first step is to find an activity that you actually enjoy. If you hate running, then don't force yourself to run miles every day. You'll just end up hating exercise even more! Instead, try different activities until you find something fun. Maybe you like shooting hoops, riding your bike, dancing, swimming, or playing frisbee. The options are endless! My favorite activity is playing soccer because I love running around and scoring goals. But my friend Jacob likes rock climbing because he thinks it's an awesome full body workout. Different strokes for different folks, you know? The key is finding your personal jam.Once you discover an activity you like, try doing it for at least 30 minutes per day. Doctors recommend 60 minutes of exercise daily for kids, but if you're an adult who isn't used to being active, you can start smaller. Even a daily 30 minute walk is better than nothing! You can split up your exercise time too. Like 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes after school or work. Or 10 minute breaks a few times per day where you go outside and run around. Anything counts as long as you're getting your body moving!Another really important tip is to find an exercise buddy. Workout pals make exercise way more fun! You can chat, laugh, and encourage each other when you feel lazy. My best friend Alex and I love riding bikes together after school. We race each other, which makes it more like playing than working out.If you don't have any friends who want to exercise with you, ask your parents, siblings, neighbors, or cousins. Or you can make new friends by joining a recreational sports team or taking a fun fitness class. There are tons of options like soccer, basketball, dance, martial arts, rock climbing, you name it!Making exercise a group activity is the best way to stick with it. Plus it's just way more enjoyable than being a loser loner panting on a treadmill by yourself. No offense if that's what you're into, but it seems pretty boring to me.The last tip I'll give you lazy bones is to sign up for a race or competition. Having a goal will really motivate you to train harder. You could run a 5K, play in a softball tournament, do a dance performance, or compete in whatever athletic event sounds fun to you. Sign up months in advance so you have plenty of time to prepare. My soccer team has a huge tournament every summer and I get so pumped to practice as much as I can. I want my team to win that trophy! Doing a race is also a great way to raise money for charity while getting fit. Kill two birds with one stone - nice!So those are my main tips for getting off the dreaded couch: find an enjoyable activity, exercise for 30-60 minutes per day, get a workout buddy, join a team or group, and sign up for an event with a goal. If you follow this advice I'm sure you'll go from being a lazy slug to a fit and active person in no time! And let me tell you, being active feels amazing. You'll have so much more energy, strength, and endurance. You'll be able to do awesome activities all day long instead of getting tired after walking up a few stairs. Not to mention, eating healthy and exercising helps you look and feel your best. Muscles, stamina, and glowing skin? Yes please!Meanwhile, lazy people who never exercise just look and feel gross. Flabby arms, big bellies, no motivation, and always tired? No thanks, I'll pass on that grotesque slob life. Plus they're way more likely to get sick or develop health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and other scary stuff. Who wants to risk all that just because they're too lazy to work out? Not me!In conclusion, you have got to get off your butt and start exercising RIGHT NOW! Don't be one of those disgusting immobile blobs letting their body turn to mush. Make a choice to live an active, energetic lifestyle filled with fun physical activitiesyou enjoy. Your health and happiness is worth the effort, I promise.Find a sport or exercise that excites you, schedule it into your daily routine, get some friends involved, sign up for an event, and go after it! Once exercise becomes a habit, you'll feel like a million bucks. Ditch the lazy couch potato ways and join me in living life to the fullest. We've got an amazing world to explore, so let's get moving!篇2Not Getting Enough Exercise? Here's What to Do!Hi there! My name is Sophie and I'm 10 years old. I love playing outside, riding my bike, and just being active in general. But I've noticed that a lot of grown-ups don't seem to get very much exercise at all. They're always sitting at their desks or on the couch watching TV. No wonder so many adults are out of shape and overweight these days!If you're one of those people who doesn't get nearly enough physical activity, you really need to change your habits. Being a couch potato is bad for your health in so many ways. You're going to start gaining weight, which can lead to all sorts of other problems like diabetes, heart disease, and joint pain. Plus, you'llget tired and out of breath really easily, even from just walking up a few flights of stairs. But don't worry, I'm here to help! I've come up with some great suggestions for how you lazy adults can start exercising more. You'll be feeling healthier and more energetic in no time if you follow my advice. Just think of me as your own personal kid fitness coach! The first thing you need to do is make exercise a priority in your daily routine. You can't just say "I'll do it later" or make up excuses. Schedule a specific time, like first thing in the morning or right after work, and stick to it no matter what. Put it in your calendar like it's an important meeting or appointment that can't be moved. Grown-ups are always telling kids how important it is to form good habits, so take your own advice for once!Next, you have to find some physical activities that you actually enjoy doing. If you pick something you hate, you'll never stick with it. Do you like being outdoors? Maybe you could take up hiking, cycling, or playing tennis or basketball. Or if you prefer being indoors, try dancing, swimming at an indoor pool, or even just walking on a treadmill while watching your favorite shows. The key is to make exercise fun instead of feeling like a chore.Another great way to stay motivated is to exercise with a friend or group. You can encourage and push each other to work harder. Maybe you could join a local running club, take a yoga or martial arts class, or just grab some neighbors to walk or jog around the park together a few times a week. Having an exercise buddy will make the time fly by as you chat and laugh together. If you truly can't stand doing any kind of intense exercise, that's no excuse to be a total slob. At the very least, you need to start being more active in your everyday life. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. Park further away from the entrance when you go shopping so you have to walk more. Do little things like pacing around while on the phone, taking frequent breaks to march in place or do jumping jacks, or even just fidgeting and tapping your feet while sitting. It all adds up over time - those little movements and extra steps will help you burn more calories than just sitting perfectly still all day. And once you get into the habit of moving around more, you might eventually feel motivated to start a real exercise routine.I know changing behaviors isn't easy, especially for篇3Title: Get Moving and Feel Great!Hi friends! Today I want to talk to you about something really important - exercise! Exercise is when you move your body around and get your heart pumping. It's super good for you and makes you feel amazing. But I know a lot of kids (and grown-ups too!) don't exercise enough. They spend too much time sitting down playing video games, watching TV, or being on their tablets and phones. That's not good!If you don't exercise, you could start to gain too much weight. That's because you're not burning off the calories from all the food you eat. Calories are like tiny little food particles that give your body energy. If you take in more calories than your body can use up by moving around, the extra calories get stored as fat. No one wants to be overweight - it's bad for your health and can make you feel sad about how you look. But exercise isn't just about keeping off extra weight. It's also really important for having a healthy heart. Your heart is a muscle, and like all your other muscles, it gets stronger when you exercise it regularly. If you never exercise, your heart has to work way too hard just to pump blood through your body. Over time, a lazy heart can cause all kinds of problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and even heart attacks! Exercising keepsyour heart nice and strong so it can do its super important job well.Exercise has tons of other benefits too. It gives you more energy, instead of feeling tired and lazy all the time. It reduces stress and makes you happier by releasing chemicals in your brain called endorphins (big word, I know!). Endorphins are like nature's anti-depressant pills - they improve your mood without any medicine. Exercise also helps you sleep better at night, keeps your bones and muscles strong, and can even help you do better in school by improving your memory and concentration. See, it's like a miracle worker! So now that you know why exercise is so incredibly important, you're probably wondering what kind of exercise you should do. The great thing is, there are millions of options to choose from! You can play sports like soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis, or any other sport you enjoy. Those are awesome full-body workouts. Or if you prefer, you can go for a bike ride, a hike, or even just a walk around your neighborhood. Dancing is also an amazing way to exercise - put on your favorite music and just groove! If you'd rather exercise indoors, you can look up workout videos for kids on YouTube and follow along. There are videosfor all different fitness levels that make exercising really fun. You can even make up your own workout routine by doing jumping jacks, running in place, planks, sit-ups, or anything else you can think of to get your body moving. The most important thing is to find activities you enjoy, because then you'll actually want to keep doing them. Exercising for just 30-60 minutes per day can make a huge difference in how you feel physically and mentally. And it doesn't have to be all at once - you can break it up into a few 10 or 15 minute sessions if that's easier.I know some of you might be thinking "Exercise is too hard and not fun at all!" But I promise if you give it a chance, you'll start to love how it makes you feel. At first, it will be challenging because your body isn't used to it. But stick with it, and before you know it, your muscles will get stronger and exercising will become easier and more enjoyable. You can even make it a family activity! Go for walks, hikes, or bike rides together. Play basketball, frisbee, or tag in the backyard or at the park. Having your family members join in will make it more fun and motivating. You can encourage and cheer each other on. Maybe you could even have a weekly familyfitness challenge to see who can do the most push-ups, jump rope for the longest, or come up with the craziest new exercise! If you still need some more motivation, remember that fit people tend to live much longer than people who don't exercise. By taking good care of your body now through exercise and eating healthy foods, you'll have way more energy to do all the things you love as you get older. You'll get to spend extra quality time with your family and friends instead of being too tired or sick from not exercising. To me, that sounds like a million times better than sitting on the couch all day!So what do you think? Are you ready to get moving and start feeling your absolute best? You've got this! Just take it one day at a time, and exercise will become an awesome healthy habit. Your body AND your mind will thank you. Don't waitany longer, let's get started right now! Put on your sneakers, turn on some fun music, and let's gooooo!篇4No More Couch Potatoes! Get Moving!Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I love playing outside, riding my bike, and just being active. But I've noticed that a lot of grown-ups don't exercise or play as much askids do. They just sit around all day at work or lounging on the couch at home. No wonder so many adults are out of shape and unhealthy!Well, I'm here to tell all you couch potatoes that it's time to get up and get moving! Exercise is super important for having a healthy body and mind. If you don't work out regularly, you're missing out on tons of awesome benefits. Let me break it down for you:Exercise Makes You StrongerWhen you exercise, you're working all the muscles in your body. The more you use your muscles, the stronger they get! Strong muscles make it easier to do stuff like carry heavy grocery bags, climb stairs without getting tired, and play fun games at the park. Plus, having muscle tone makes you look fit and fabulous.Exercise Gives You More EnergyYou might think exercise would make you feel more tired and sluggish. But it's actually the opposite! Getting your body moving gets your blood pumping and gives you an energy boost. So instead of feeling lazy after work or school, you'll have waymore zip and pep in your step. No more yawning and napping all evening long!Exercise Helps Your HeartYour heart is a muscle too, and it gets stronger from exercise just like the other muscles. When your heart is in good shape, it pumps blood better and doesn't have to work as hard. That means less strain on your heart, which lowers risks like heart disease or heart attacks in the future. Pretty cool, right?Exercise Makes You HappierWhenever I'm feeling down or grumpy, my parents always tell me to go play outside and run around for a while. And you know what? It really works! Exercise causes your brain to release happy chemicals called endorphins that naturally put you in a great mood. So moving your body can chase the grumpies away.Exercise Helps You Sleep BetterI bet you grown-ups have a hard time falling asleep some nights because your bodies and minds aren't tired enough from just sitting around all day. Well, exercise is the perfect solution! When you work out regularly, you'll be nice and tuckered out come bedtime. You'll fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more rested. No more tossing and turning for hours! As you can see, exercise has so many amazing upsides for your body and mind. But in order to reap all those benefits, you need to make working out a habit. It doesn't have to be anything crazy - even just a daily 30 minute walk around your neighborhood can make a big difference. If walking seems a little boring to you, don't worry! There are tons of fun exercise options to try. You could take a dance class, join a recreational sports league, lift weights at the gym, or even just turn on some music and boogie around your living room. The key is to find a physical activity you enjoy so it doesn't feel like a chore. And for all you parents out there, setting a good example by exercising regularly shows your kids how important it is to have an active lifestyle. You can even make it a family activity by going for bike rides, hiking at the park, or playing basketball in the driveway together. That way, you're getting quality time while getting fit!I know changing your habits and finding time to exercise can be tough, especially for busy grown-ups. But making the effort is so worth it. Once you start moving more and feeling all the benefits, you'll wonder why you were a couch potato for so long!So what are you waiting for? Lace up those sneakers andlet's get moving! Your body and mind will thank you. No more excuses - it's time to say "See ya!" to that lazy, sluggish lifestyle. Join me in being a fit kid (or fit adult) instead of a couch potato!篇5Not Enough Exercise? Here's What You Gotta Do!Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I love playing sports and being active, but I have some friends who pretty much just sit around all day. They don't get out much and they definitely don't exercise enough. I try to tell them that it's really important to be active and move your body, but I don't think they really listen to me. So I decided to write this essay to explain why exercise is so great and give them (and anyone else who needs it) some advice on how to get moving!First of all, why is exercise so important? Well, there are a bunch of reasons! Exercise keeps your body healthy and strong. If you don't move around and get your heart pumping at least a little bit every day, you can start to get lots of health problems when you get older. Things like heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and even some cancers are more likely if you're not active. But exercise doesn't just keep you from getting sick. It also gives you more energy, helps you sleep better at night, improves your mood, and even helps you learn better in school! Trust me, after I play a good game of soccer or go for a run, I feel so awake and happy. I just have more pep in my step. And all the running around really helps me fall asleep fast at bedtime too.Okay, so now you know why exercise is awesome. But what if you're one of those people who just never seems to get any exercise? Well, I've got some tips for you! The most important thing is to find activities you actually enjoy. Don't just force yourself to run on a treadmill for hours if you hate running. That's no fun at all! Think about what kinds of exercise sound appealing to you.Maybe you like the idea of playing a sport, even just recreationally. Basketball, tennis, dance classes, martial arts...the options are endless. Or perhaps outdoorsy stuff like hiking, rock climbing, or cycling is more your thing. You could even look for active video games that get you moving around. The point is, if you pick an activity you think is fun, it won't even feel like exercise! If you're having trouble picking something, my advice is to just experiment and try out different activities until you findsomething you click with. And don't be afraid to bring a friend or two along! Everything is more enjoyable with a buddy by your side. You can keep each other motivated.Once you find an activity you like, the next step is to actually schedule it into your weekly routine. Put it in your calendar just like you would a work meeting or dentist appointment. Dedicate a few set times each week for your exercise, whether it's a nightly neighborhood walk or a weekly tennis match. Putting it in your schedule makes it feel like more of a real commitment thatyou're less likely to just blow off.And speaking of commitments, another big tip is to set yourself some goals to work towards. Having a goal in mind will help keep you going. Your goal could be something specific like training to run a 5K race or aiming to lose a certain amount of weight. Or it could just be a general goal of feeling more energized and healthier overall. No matter what, having that goal to strive for will inspire you to keep up with your new exercise routine. Those are some of my best tips, but I've got one more big piece of advice: don't get discouraged! Making exercise a habit is really tough at first, and you might struggle or want to give up sometimes. That's okay! Every journey has its ups and downs. The important thing is to keep picking yourself back up and trying again. Maybe you'll miss a workout here and there, or you'll have a week where you definitely didn't get enough activity in. Don't beat yourself up over it. Just get right back on that horse (metaphorically speaking, of course) and keep working towards your goal. The bottom line is that exercise and being active needs to be a priority, just like eating well or getting enough sleep. It's an investment in your health, your happiness, and your future. So don't be a couch potato! Get out there and get moving with activities you enjoy. Your body and mind will thank you for it.Well, that's all the advice I've got! I really hope some of you sedentary folks out there will take it to heart. Don't let another day go by without lacing up those sneakers or jumping into an exercise you love. Let's all get fit and healthy together!篇6Exercise is Super Important!Hi friends! Today I want to talk to you about something really important - exercise! Do you like running around and playing games at recess? I sure do! Exercise is so much fun and it's also really good for you. Some kids and grown-ups don't get enough exercise though. Maybe they are too busy with school or work. Maybe they just like sitting around watching TV or playing video games instead. But not exercising is not good!If you don't exercise, you could start gaining too much weight. That's no fun at all.
