Unit 1 Laughter is good for youⅠ.阅读理解A(2017·吉林省部分学校高三模拟)Before I studied psychology,I used to think that people would laugh when funny things occurred. While I was right about that,I discovered there are lots of other psychological factors that make people laugh other than the funny part of a joke. When someone laughs at a joke, there will usually be more than one reason that makes him laugh—and the more reasons there are,the more powerful the joke will be.I was attending a standup comedy show in Egypt, and when the man started to make fun of pedestrians crossing streets, everyone laughed their hearts out.The main reason those people strongly laughed was that almost all of them felt anger toward pedestrians who crossed streets carelessly. The joke wasn't only funny;it also made the audience feel that they were right about being angry at those pedestrians. That is,people were laughing both because of the funny joke and because of the happiness experienced as a result of the psychological support they got.The better a joke makes a person feel, and the more it includes other psychological factors, the more the person will like it.For example,if you envy one of your friends, and someone tells a joke that is funny and,at the same time, makes your friend seem stupid, then you will probably laugh at it louder than if you weren't jealous of him.In short,we don't laugh only when we hear something funny;we also laugh when we experience some kind of happiness that results from the other psychological factors involved in the joke.I strongly discourage making fun of anyone or belittling someone to make someone else laugh. All I want to explain is that if your joke supports a person's emotions,he will certainly like it a lot.【语篇解读】本文是一篇议论文。

Unit 1Laughter is good for you笑是最好的良药。

There is an English saying that “Laughter is the best medicine.” Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. Now however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found that laughter can really improve people’s health.Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body.People watched funny films while doctors checked their hearts, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, makes the heart beat quicker and makes people breathe deeper,it also works on several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and even the feet.If laughter exercises the body,it must be beneficial.Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effects of pain on the body.In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group that tolerated(忍耐)the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemical in the brain which reduces both stress and pain.As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics,in which they help to improve their patients’ condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter.词海拾贝1.look into 调查;观察2.improve people’s health 改善人们的健康3.carry out 执行;实行4.physical exercise 身体锻炼;体育运动5.work on 对……起作用6.reduce pain 减少疼痛7.as a result of 因此;由于;作为……的结果8.even if 即使;虽然9.feel like doing 想做某事Part ⅠWelcome to the unit & ReadingⅠ. 敲,捶打6.trip v i.& v t. 雪茄烟12.mourn v t.& v i. 各种各样的→vary v t.& v i.改变,变化14.behave v i.& v t.表现→behaviour n.举止,行为15.perform v t.& v i. 核心短语1.stand__up__for支持,拥护2.trip__over 绊倒3.make__fun__of 拿……开玩笑;取笑,嘲弄4.have__affection__for 喜爱,钟爱e up with 想出;拿出6.pass away 去世,亡故7.be good for 对…… 1.While this kind of humour may sound cruel...

试题习题、尽在百度选修6 Unit 1 Art艺术记忆晨读·Abstract ArtAbstract art used to be controversial. On one hand, the artists stopped painting delicate figures but attempted to adoptspecial techniques to give people different visual impacts. On the other hand, their works, including sculptures carvedout of marble or fragile clay, were all with a specific aim of showing feelings. Some conventional scholars who wereallergic to abstract art said it was evidently ridiculous and neither art nor geometry. Their Traditional Art Committeepredicted its soon disappearing. But nowadays, abstract art has become part of the permanent possessions of contemporary civilization. Galleries alongthe Madison Avenue give scores ofsuperb exhibitions on typical abstract works, appealing to many who have apreference for abstract art. The Shadow of Egypt, a caféin this district, has become the home to those aggressive abstractartists. Consequently, it is not a coincidence for you to meet one of these artists of great reputation in the flesh. They areasked for signatures and given bunches of fragrant flowers plus they are given a great deal of praise by their faithfulfans. 单词盘点→__________(adv.) 摘要1.__________(adj.)2.__________(n.) 雕塑目标;目的 5.___________(n.))努力向某方向(vt.&vi.) 3.__________(n.) 忠实的→__________(adj.) 按照惯例;传统地→_________(adv.) 集中;全神贯注于__________________ 1.巧合地__________________ __________________ 偏爱7. 2.大量__________________ 3.(可是)另一方面__________________8.对……过敏__________________ __________________ 9.企图做某事活着的;本人4.__________________ 5.(对某人)有吸引力;(使某人)感兴趣也;还;而且10.__________________仔细审题、认真作答. 句式扫描th 13century changing in the it 1.But was evident that ideas werewhen painters like Giotto di Bondone began to paint religious scenesin a more realistic way.(教材P2)但是,很显然到了13世纪时,观念在发生变化,像乔托这样的画家开始一种比较现实的风格来画宗教场景.2.If the rules of perspective had not been discovered,no one wouldhave been able to paint such realistic pictures.(教材P2)如果没有发现透视法,人们就不可能画出如此逼真的画.3.Without the new paints and the new technique,we would not beable to see the many great masterpieces for which this period isfamous.(教材P2)没有新的颜料和新的(绘画)手法,我们就不能看到很多使这一时代著名的杰作.4.Among the painters who broke away from the traditional style ofpainting were the Impressionists, who lived and worked in Paris.(教材P2)在那些突破传统画法的画家中有生活和工作在巴黎的印象派画家.5.Many art lovers would rather visit this small art gallery than anyother in New York.(教材P6)许多艺术爱好者宁愿参观这个小艺术馆而不参观纽约其他的艺术馆. 1.I wish everyone __________(be) rich so that there would be no fight for food again.2.Danny is their _______________(adopt) son.3.It_____________(predict) that house prices would continue to fall.4.If I _____________(set) off a little earlier,I would have caught the train.5.I_____________(aim) at the tree but hit the car by mistake.6.I find the ending of the film very ___________(convince).7.Many people expressed a strong ___________(prefer) for the plan.8.We have already bought the house but we will not take _____________(possess) of it until May.Ⅱ.短语填空on the one hand...on the other hand,a great deal of,in the flesh,by coincidence, concentrate on,as a consequence1.____________________,Mary and Jim were going to Beijing on the same train.2.Lucy won't go hiking with us.___________________,she is not feeling well;________________,she doesn't like outdoor sports.3.This is a difficult project because it requires_______________time and energy.4.My father smokes heavily;________________,he coughs frequently.5.The fans were very excited for they saw the superstar_________________at the theatre.6.A person who constantly watches the clock can never________________________his work.Ⅲ. 1.In a word, the Program aims at_________________(encourage)students to be active citizens and engage themselves in making a difference in society.2.A teacher who________________(possess)a sense of humour has the potential to be an excellent teacher.3.Had we not used an out-of-date train schedule, we wouldn't have_____________(miss)the train.4.If I hadn't______________(drink)alcohol last night. 课时练1阅读理解提速练Ⅰ阅读理解A(2018·唐山一模)A new research brings some good news for loversof spicy(辛辣的) foods, after finding that eating hot red chili peppersmight help to extend lifespan(寿命)、Consuming hot red chili peppers might reduce death risk, say Chopan and Littenberg from the research team. In hot peppers, such as Mexico peppers, the strong flavor comes from a compound(化合物),which does not exist in sweet peppers or onions. Studies have suggested that this compound can offer wealth of health benefits.A study of more than 16,000 people in the United States showed that individuals who consumed red chili peppers had a lower risk of death from all causes over an average of 18 years than those who did not eat the spicy food. Compared with participants who did not consume hot red chili peppers, those who did were found to be at a 13 percent reduced risk of all-cause death. For example, a recent study reported by Medical News Today, found that the compound might have the potential to stop breast cancer, while an earlier study linked the compound to a reduced risk of digest system cancers. Still, the available data suggested that hot red chili pepper consumption was most strongly associated with a reduced risk of death from heart disease. While the researchers are unable to identify the specific compound by which red chili peppers might extend lifespan, the team says that it is likely due to the compound that is effectively against obesity(肥胖症)、Overall, the team says that these latest findings support those of the 2015 study, linking spicy foods intake to reduced risk of death by showing “a significant decrease in death associated with hot red chili pepper consumption”. However, Chopan and Littenberg note that the earlier study was only conducted in Chinese adults, so the new research makes these findings more credible、【解题导语】一项新的研究发现,食用红辣椒之类的辛辣食物可能会降低死亡风险,延长人类的寿命.1、What can be inferred from the passage?A、The study only goes for American people.B、Red chili peppers can cure all-cause diseases.C、The compound protects people against obesity.D、Onion consuming can reduce death risk.C解析:推理判断题. 2、What is the finding of the new research mainly about?A、Hot red chili pepper lovers develop no cancers.B、Hot red chili peppers help control breast illness.C、Hot red chili peppers decrease heart disease.D、Hot red chili pepper intake may increase lifespan.D解析:推理判断题. 3、Which of the following has the closest meaning to the underlined word “credible”?A、Convincing.B、Practical.C、Encouraging.D、Attractive.A解析:词义猜测题. 故选A项.B(2018·西宁检测)If you choose only to complain and escape from a misfortune, it will always follow you wherever you go. But if you decide to be strong, the hardship will turn out to be fortune on which new hopes will arise. In an accident,a boy lost both his arms and his father who was the main source of support for the family. Since then, he has had to depend on the arms of his younger brother. For the sake of taking care of him, his younger brother became his shadow, never leaving him alone for years. Except for writing with his toes, he was completely unable to do anything in his life.As the two brothers grew up together, they had their share of problems and they would often quarrel. Then one day, his younger brother wanted to leave, living his own life, as many normal people do. So he was heart-broken and didn’t know what to do.A similar misfortune befell a girl, too. One night, her mother who suffered from chronic mental illness disappeared. Her father went out to look for her mother, leaving her alone at home. She tried to prepare meals for her parents, only to overturn the kerosene light on the stove, resulting in a fire which took her hands away.Though her elder sister who was studying in another city showed her willingness to take care of her, she was determined to be completely independent. At school, she always studied hard. Most of all she learned to be self-reliant.One day, the boy and the girl were both invited to appear on a television interview program. The boy told the TV host about his uncertain future at being left on his own, whereas the girl wasfull of enthusiasm for her life. They both were asked to write something on a piece of paper with their toes. The boy wrote: My younger brother’s arms are my arms; while the girl wrote: Broken wings, flying heart.【解题导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文. 4、What attitude should we take towards a misfortune in the author’s opinion?A、Trying to find an escape from it.B、Facing it bravely with a positive mind.C、Asking for help from your relatives.D、Ignoring it and living a normal life.B解析:推理判断题.根据第一段的第二句“But if you decide to be strong, the hardship will turn out to be fortune on which new hopes will arise.” 5、After the accident, the boy____________、A、decided to live with his brotherB、learnt to do things with his toesC、made a living all by himselfD、depended wholly on his brotherD解析:细节理解题.根据第二段的第二句“Since then, he has had to depend on the arms of his younger brother.” 6、Which of the following is TRUE of the girl?A、She lost her mother in an accident.B、Her sister took good care of her.C、She was optimistic and full of courage.D、She led a poor life with her father.C解析:细节理解题. 7、What did the girl mean by “Broken wings, flying heart.”?A、Never give up hopes in face of hardship.B、It’s not easy for her to live a normal life.C、If a bird loses its wings, it can not fly.D、If you lose your hands, your life will be hard.A解析:句意理解题.“Broken wings, flying heart.”为女孩用脚趾写的话,意为“失去双翼,心仍飞翔.”;结合最后一段第二句中的“the girl was full of enthusiasm for her life”和第五段可知,事故之后,她决定独立生活,在学校努力学习,乐观坚强地面对生活;据此可知,该句是说“面对困难,永远不要放弃希望”,故A项正确.C(2018·广州高考模拟)As a child, visiting the zoo was more apunishment than a treat.I didn’t find the chimps’ tea parties funny, northe bird shows entertaining.Feeding time for seals was less painful, buttheir performances still seemed like they belonged more in a circus. And I hated circuses, especially the animal acts—men teasing lions, girls balancing on elephants and monkeys playing football.I knew that every trick a circus animal did was unnatural, achieved through strict training and quite possibly cruelty.Happily, during my lifetime public attitudes and the law have changed.Circuses using wild animals are now almost extinct, and zoos have definitely evolved. When my children were young,I occasionally took them to our local zoo.The elephants were in tiny cages and the gorillas looked bored as they sat peeling bananas and staring at teasing visitors. Each cage had a sign which listed the animal’s name and where it came from. But,back then, there was little information included about the environmental challenges they faced. As a result, environmentalists and animal lovers often oppose zoos.“Animals belong in the wild” is a common and understandable complaint. But what do the animals themselves prefer?Generally speaking, zoo animals have a longer life. But—you may protest—they are not free. What? Free to be hunted and killed, free to die of hunger or thirst? Maybe sitting in a cage eating bananas isn’t so bad.Not that such conditions are acceptable in modern zoos, due to the work of BIAZA,the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. These days every zoo requires BIAZA’s approval to operate, and the association sets the standards, observes conditions in zoos and develops animalresearch programmes, both in the UK and abroad.BIAZA also organises the animal exchanges between zoos all over the world.Consequently, today, most zoo animals are born and raised in zoos, live in large, comfortable enclosures and are cared for by welltrained, knowledgeable and caring zoo employees.Of course it’s no substitute for living in the wild but unfortunately this isn’t always possible.Meanwhile, why not visit your local zoo and decide for yourself?【解题导语】本文主要讲述了现代的动物园是如何得到改善的.8、The passage is mainly about________、A、how zoos have improvedB、whether a zoo should be closed downC、a new environmental organisationD、the difference between zoos and circusesA解析:主旨大意题. 9、From Paragraph 2,we can guess that the writer believes circus animals________、A、had much shorter lives than those in the wildB、were not treated well by their trainersC、should have been placed in zoosD、were not as intelligent as those in zoosB解析:推理判断题.根据第二段的最后一句“I knew that every trick a circus animal did was unnatural, achieved through strict training and quite possibly cruelty.” 10、Which of the following roles are performed by BIAZA?A、Organising animal study projects and training zoo workers.B、Checking zoo conditions and arranging animal exchanges.C、Designing zoos and approving zoo operations.D、Caring for ill animals and setting zoo standards.B解析:细节理解题.根据倒数第二段的“These days every zoo requires BIAZA’s approval to operate, and the association sets the standards, observes conditions in zoos and develops animal research programmes, both in the UK and abroad.BIAZA also organises the animal exchanges between zoos all over the world.” 11、Which of the following statements about zoos would the writer agree with?A、Zoo animals should be freed into the wild.B、Zoos are more popular now than in the past.C、Zoo animals are more restricted than in the past.D、Zoos now provide caring living conditions for animals.D解析:推理判断题.根据最后一段的第一句“Consequently,today,most zoo animals are born and raised in zoos, live in large, comfortable enclosures and are cared for by welltrained, knowledgeable and caring zoo employees.”可知,作者认为现在的动物园给动物们提供了舒适和充满关爱的环境.D(2018·云南高三11校跨区调研)If our kids don’t fall, they don’t learn to get up. The 5p charge has resulted in donations of more than £29 million from retailers toward charities (慈善机构) and community groups.About 8 million tonnes of plastic pollutes the oceans eachyear, and experts judge the plastic is swallowed by 31 species ofmarine (海生的) mammals and some 100 species of seabirds.“Taking six billion plastic bags out of circulation is fantastic news for all of us — it will mean our precious marine life is safer, our communities are cleaner, and future generations won't suffer from mountains of plastic taking hundreds of years to break down in landfill sites,”UK Environment Minister Thérèse Coffey said. “The 5p charge has clearly been a huge success — not only for our environment but for good causes across the country that have benefited from an impressive £29 million raised. It shows small actions can make the biggest difference, but we must not be complacent as there is always more we can all do to reduce waste and recycle what we use.”More than 7 billion carrier bags were issued by seven leading retailers in 2014, but that number has fallen to slightly more than 500 million in the first six months of the 5p charge for single-use carrier bags introduced in October 2015.“We are delighted to see that the bag charge in England is showing positive results. This is a significant reduction that will benefit the environment as a whole, and our sea life in particular,”said Dr. Sue Kinsey, a technical specialist. “There is always more that we can do, and we encourage everyone to join in our Great British Beach Clean to help keep our coastlines clean.”
