I don’t want to talk about being a woman scientistagain. There was a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories about what it’s like to work in a field dominated (controlled) by men. I was never very good at telling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting. What I do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space, time and the nature of black holes.
At 19, when I began studying astrophysics (天体物理学), it did not bother me in the least to be the only woman in the classroom. But while earning my Ph.D. at MIT and then as a post-doctor doing space research, the issue started to bother me. My every achievement — jobs, research papers, awards — was viewed through the lens (镜片) of gender (性别) politics. So were my failures. Sometimes, when I was pushed into an argument on left brain versus (相对于) right brain, or nature versus nurture (培育), I would instantly fight fiercely on my behalf and all womankind.
Then one day a few years ago, out of my mouth came a sentence that would eventually become my reply to any and all provocations (挑衅): I don’t talk about that anymore. It took me 10 years to get back the confidence I had at 19 and to realize that I didn’t want to deal with gender issues. Why should curing sexism be yet another terrible burden on every female scientist? After all, I don’t study sociology or political theory.
Today I research and teach at Barnard, a women’s college in New York City. Recently, someone asked me how many of the 45 students in my class were women. You cannot imagine my satisfaction at being able to answer, 45.
I know some of my students worry how they will manage their scientific research and a desire for children. And I don’t dismiss those concerns. Still, I don’t tell them “war” stories. Instead, I have given them this: the visual of their physics professor heavily pregnant doing physics experiments. And in turn they have given me the image of 45 women driven by a love of science. And that’s a sight worth talking about.
4. Why doesn’t the author want to talk about being a woman scientist again?
A. She is fed up with the issue of gender discrimination (歧视).
B. She feels unhappy working in male-dominated fields.
C. She is not good at telling stories of the kind.
D. She finds space research more important.
5. From Paragraph 2, we can infer that people would attribute (把……归因于) the author’s failures to ________.
A. the burden she bears in a male-dominated society
B. her involvement in gender politics
C. her over-confidence as a female astrophysicist
D. the very fact that she is a woman
6. What did the author constantly fight against while doing her Ph.D. and post-doctoral research?
A. Lack of confidence in succeeding in space science.
B. Unfair accusations from both inside and outside her circle.
C. People’s fixed attitude toward female scientists.
D. Widespread misconceptions about nature and nurtured.
7. What does the image the author presents to her students suggest?
A. Women students needn’t have the concerns of her generation.
B. Women can balance a career in science and having a family.
C. Women have more barriers on their way to academic success.
D. Women now have fewer problems pursuing a science career.
C
Growing up as kids we are told to share our toys and notto be selfish. We also live in an age when discussing our feelings is encouraged. But when does it all become too much? With new crazes trending all the time, such as dance challenges and wearing a carpet as a dress, the question is: when can sharing become oversharing on social
media?
“Oversharing” has become associated with social media, but it isn'texclusiveto this platform. Imagine you head to a party and meet x k w someone. Within five minutes they have revealed private details about their life. While some of us may try to escape these people, according to marriage advisor Carolyn Cole, this form of oversharing could come from a strong desire to connect with someone. But how does this translate to social media?
Dr. Christopher Hand, a lecturer in cyberpsychology (网络心理学),says the more details people disclose, the less sympathy we express when things go wrong. It seems that searching for sympathy by oversharing is generally considered as negative rather than the cry for help it could really be.
However, Dr. Hand's research also seems to suggest that the more we post on a platform, the more socially attractive we become-provided that the posts that we bang out are positive. Even back in 2015, Gwendolyn Seidman PhD said that we should avoid complaining and being negative online. We should also avoid showing off, especially about our love lives. It makes sense-if your date is going “that well", would you really have time to share a photo with text?
So, how can you know if you are oversharing? Well, why not ask your friends in real life. They would probably be happy to tell you if your posts about your breakfast or your complaints about your lack of money really are too much.
8. What does the underlined word “exclusive" in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Unique.
B. Similar.
C. Relevant.
D. Fundamental.
9. Why do some people prefer oversharing at parties?
A. To draw others' attention.
B. To satisfy others' curiosity.
C. To remove negative feelings.
D. To develop good relationships.
10. Which of the following may Dr. Hand agree with?
A. Sharing more details online can attract more sympathy.
B. Oversharing negative experiences is equal to crying for help.
C. Sharing negative posts can't help one become socially attractive.
D. Oversharing isn't likely to happen online when things go wrong.
11. According to the text, what should be avoided for online sharing?
A. Reflecting on past bad manners.
B. Showing a great many expensive goods.
C. Writing a recipe for a balanced breakfast.
D. Recording unforgettable moments with friends.
D
For 30 years we have been told how temperatures have been rising rapidly to unheard of levels. This is causing polar ice to melt, sea-levels to rise and has brought about adangerous increase in extreme weather events. These intense climatic changes would likely present challenges to our society and environment.
The causes of climate change are mainly anthropogenic (人为的) in nature. Since the industrial revolution, human activities have increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The increased amount of gases which absorb heat has led to more heat being kept in the atmosphere, causing global warming.
The certainty of global warming can be seen through some of the natural phenomena like the effect on crops and extreme weather conditions around the world. The most recent assessment report says that the earth’s average temperature has risen by 0. 74 degrees in the period from 1906 to 2005, and that the average temperature will continue to rise. There have also been more violent downpours, sea levels have risen and the ice at the world’s poles and on its mountains is melting. The rising sea level is flooding the low-lying countries inAsiaand small islands in the Pacific. This may lead to the displacement of millions of people, loss of millions of land and consequently billions of dollars.
Troubled by the serious situation, world leaders came together for the 2015 United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference inParis. The climate talks led to 196 countries reaching a landmark agreement that will, for the first time, commit nearly every country to lowering planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions to address global climate change. That was certainly an encouraging step forward for our earth and mankind!
As the world leaders continue to commit themselves to monitor our sick planet, we need to continue to take small steps to heal the world. We are left with not much of a choice. If only we could just pack our bags and migrate to Mars!
12. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. The information of industrial revolution.
B. The greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
C. The reasons of climate change.
D. The result of extreme weather events.
13. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. We have made great achievements.
B. Some measures are still required to take.
C. Mars is suitable for people’s living.
D. Some countries will receive urgent aid.
14. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Long Live Planet Earth!
B.Environment Changes Rapidly!
C. What Serious Global Warming!
D. How Important the UN Agreement Is!
15. Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text?
A. B.
C. D.

Every insect has its own way of finding____41.____unique kind of food. So do bees though they seem to fly aimlessly when searching for the____42.____(sugar) liquid called nectar (花蜜). Flowers act as the insects’ air-traffic controllers and give bees clues about how much a plant can offer. The insects keep track of the color1 of the flowers that are____44.____(extreme)
rich in nectar.
However, color1 can’t guarantee bees a good meal as it may change according to the angle of sunlight____45.____(hit) its petals. A yellow flower, for example, may look somewhat blue from one angle and red from another.
Beverley Glover, a biologist at the University of Cambridge in England, together with her colleagues,____46.____(study) the effect of the color1 of petals on the flight of bees for many years, guessing that the____47.____(strong) of petals’ iridescence (色彩斑斓) might____48.____(relate) to how bees find the petals. There are many people think that wealth is better than health. I used to think so until one day I had read a story about Howard Joyce. He was an European billionaire who got everything he wanted. Therefore, twenty years ago, his health began to get worse and he led a terribly life. Although the best doctors were called for him, he could still find no relief. I have realized that health worth all the money in the world. If you have million of dollars but you are at poor health, you will not be able to do what you want to do. So I would like to advise you not to hurt yourself to making money. Instead, take care of your body and be happy with everything which you do. Health is more important.

续写的词数应为150左右。
When I was five years old, we lived in a small town in theMidwestin an old yellow house with a stream out back. On summer days, I used to play with a neighbor girl named Marie, who was two years older. She would take
my hand and lead me down to the stream, where I could lie on the bank and stare at the muddy water. On one such day I was sitting on the bank, with my dirty toes in the soft warm mud, when Marie took something from the pocket of her overalls. It was a little boat, made of paper.
“Papa made this for me,” she boasted. I stared at it, immediately wishing that I had an equally fine object to show. I had nothing in my pocket but a small plastic truck with only three wheels.
Marie placed her boat in the water. Then, the current took hold of it and swirled it downstream. “See?” Marie said in excitement. “See my canoe drifting down the stream? After a while that little stream will turn into a bigger stream and it will go a little faster. Then that stream will turn into an even bigger stream, and the streams will keep getting bigger and bigger until finally it will reach a big river, and it will go faster and faster, and then it will come out in the ocean.”
“Have you ever seen the ocean, Willy?” she inquired softly, inclining her head so that her bright brown eyes looked straight into mine.
I looked down at my muddy toes and shook my head no.
“At the ocean,” Marie explained, “water reaches for miles and miles, as far as you can see, and it’s deep water, dark blue and green.”
“And there’s sailing ships that go on the ocean, where you can get on, and sail for days and weeks and months, until you get all the way toChina.”
“Pretend that canoe is a real boat, Willy,” she whispered. “You and I could get in that boat and sail all the way to the ocean.” She looked out at the stream, disappearing around a stand of trees.
Para. 1:
I fingered the useless toy truck in my pocket. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________
