Two things I really believe in --- saving money and saving the planet, and it ’s eve when I can do something that accomplishes both at the same time. Rainwater harvesting such a thing. In the near future, rainwater harvesting will be as common as twelve-year-o carrying cell phones.
Many countries already rely heavily on rainwater. Every building in these countries c the rainwater from its roof and stores it for later use. However, America is just slightly slo action.
There are many ways to harvest rainwater and most of them are easy and inexpens example, use rain barrels(桶) to collect the water that would run off your roof. You ’d
surprised at how fast a fifty-gallon (加仑) barrel will be filled with free, usable water. Ne building construction offers some good ways to gather rainwater, and the cost of set-up is made up by reduced usage very quickly. Rainwater can be conveyed by roof pipes into underground containers, where a pump can draw water up as needed.
The rainwater can even be treated to make it drinkable. If that rainwater were not co but allowed to run over your lawn (草坪) , into the street and eventually to a storm wat treatment facility, it would pick up all sorts of pollutants on its journey --- chemical compo and agricultural poisons from the grass, motor oil, waste water and such from the roads, knows what else. That is to say, the shorter distance it covers the more drinkable it will be Depending on where you live, the rainwater may be piped to a treatment plant or it m in natural channels to allow nature to remove the pollutants. Either way, the treatment of is high priced. If you reduce the amount of rainwater run-off from your home or office, you the need for treatment.
Water is rapidly becoming one of our most precious resources and it is not as abun as you may think. In the year 2015, the United States used generally 479 billion gallons o water per day.

D. make us live a better life in the near future

Every year in America, high-school students who want to go on to college take a national examination called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT in a shortened way. Their score is an important factor in determining which colleges will admit them. The Scholastic Aptitude Test measures one’s mathematical ability and use of the English language. Traditionally, the English part involved grammatical questions and paragraphs that test reading comprehension.
But the SAT folks have added a single question, to be answered in an essay, handwritten on the spot. Tha t ’san interesting way to test writing ability, but content aside. Have you ever seen young people ’s handwriting lately? Or anyone ’s for that matter, in this age of computer keyboards? Students write numbers and sign their names on bank checks. They scribble class notes in what can generously be described as the written word.
Yet today ’s kids are asked to write, thoughtfully and clearly, for several minutes on this SAT Test. Good luck to the text scorers who must work out difficultly the scrawl(潦草的字迹)of young people who ’ve been typing on computers since the age of three! Teachers insist that good handwriting can not only help one ’s score on the SAT, but also, later on in life, impress potential employers. And don’tforget, we all have to use handwriting from time to time, as computers go down when the power goes out.
Then how to improve the handwriting? Well, with a few simple steps you can improve your handwriting.
Position the pen. You should hold the pen between the forefinger and the thumb. Yo then rest it near the first knuckle (指节) of the middle finger. The rest of your fingers sh curled (卷曲) under your hand and your hand should remain relaxed.
Evaluate your writing. What do you like and what don’tyou like about the way yo Make changes to your letters till you like how they look.
Take your time. Make sure that, while you are writing, you take your time. Speed ca definitely make your writing terrible. If it is worth writing well, then take your time.
Practice. Practice it a lot; it ’s not enough to do it once and hope for the best. It ha be something you work at to make great improvements.

A young lady was standing on the corner with a map in her hand. She looked puzzled. Several people passed by, looked at her but did not stop. I wondered why. Maybe it was because of the way she was dressed. She wore a dirty dress and looked pale.
As I crossed the street and came closer to her I asked if she wanted help. She thanked me and smiled in relief. As it turned out she was looking for the hospital. I felt wonderful just reaching out, and taking that extra moment to help.
Many times in these situations I end up walking a person to where he or she is going when giving directions would be too complicated. I like helping people this way due to my own experience. Many years ago, we travelled in Japan and needed directions. A kind Japanese who
saw our problem came to us and helped us out. This man just took my heavy bags and guided us to where we needed to be. We could not speak any Japanese while the man could not speak
any English. Although we could not communicate through words, we communicated through the heart.
Sometimes when I do a special favor for a stranger, the person will say,“I hope I can do something for you one day to return the favor.”They already have done something for me by giving me the opportunity to help them. But I hope that when they come across a situation
