3. Teaching procedure
Step1. Warm up&Lead-in
(1) Daily greeting
(2) Show a video about volcanic eruption.
Q: How do you feel after watching the video?
Step2. Presentation
(1)Read the passage and answer the questions.
Q1: When did the eruption occur?
Q2: Where did the volcano erupt?
(2) Show the 2 sentences of past perfect tense on the blackboard.
(3) Discuss the rules of past perfect tense in groups.
(4) Teacher concludes the usage of past perfect tense.
Structure: had done
The main clause uses the past tense.The subordinate clause uses the past
perfect tense.
It talks about things that have happened in the past.
Step3. Practice
(1)Fill in the blanks using the correct form of the given words.
①He told me that there _____(be) an argument between them.
②Before she came to China, Grace _____(teach) English for five years.
(2)Read after the tape sentence by sentence.
Step4. Production
Discussion: watch a video about WenChuan earthquake to describe it.
Step5. Summary & Homework

internet.
