第Ⅰ卷Ⅰ.阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)第一节(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)AIt was a Saturday morning,a day I believed would end in victory. For weeks,I had been preparing for the match at the county fairgrounds, sponsored(赞助) by our local riding club.My horse,Tonka, and I could run faster than any other kid in the county, and I hoped to bring home a blue ribbon. My mother usually drove me to the riding events, but on this day, my father planned to drop us off at the fairgrounds with the horse trailer(马车).Although we never discussed it, my father's struggle with alcoholism had become the silent centre of our family life.My mother was paralyzed with fear and indecision. Her salary as a part-time nurse couldn't possibly support four children. No one talked about alcoholism in those days, and it was my family secret. We climbed on the trailer and my father pulled out of our driveway and headed towards the fairgrounds, picking up speed once we hit the main road.It wasn't until we felt a big bump that I realized the trailer was out of control. The dream of my riding winner disappeared.Tonka lay on the floor, completely still. No words were possible.I knew he was dead.Suddenly a man appeared.“Are you all right?” he asked.“Yes.”I answered, although I knew that nothing was all right.“Sit here on the grass,”he said.He bent down to look into the trailer.Tonka remained still. He touched Tonka and then turned to face me.“He is going to be OK.He has just been knocked unconscious.” He rub bed Tonka's cheeks and gently pulled his ears.Tonka rose to his feet. Our father was talking to a police officer. He was upset and in pain and took little notice of me.I looked back;the man was gone.I never forgot him.He gave me strength and a sense of hope in a dark and frightening moment.1.The writer went to the fairgrounds because he wanted to ________.A.take part in a horse racingB.buy Mum a blue ribbonC.join the local riding clubD.train his horse there2.We can learn from the third paragraph that ________.A.the family kept silent at homeB.the family lived a secret lifeC.Father was addicted to alcoholD.Mother was physically disabled3.What does the author want to tell the readers through the story?A.Once formed, bad habits are difficult to break.B.Unexpected kindness is a light that shines in the darkness.C.However mean your life is,meet it and live it.D.Family is a place of encouragement, a safe harbour in the storms.BSince I became a full-time freelancer(自由职业者), I've found one of the hardest things to do is to get up early. Without the danger of being fired, there just hasn't been a lot of motivation(动机) to get out of bed.I've quickly learned that getting up is the key to success and better yet: waking up early is really just a habit. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you must have strong reasons to get out of bed. Motivation is the only thing keeping us from lying in bed all day.Writing down all the big and important things you'll do the next day can give you an extra push in your goal to wake up early and quickly.Don't read in bed. Spending as little time as possible in bed will actually help your body realize that the bed is for sleeping, and not for lying awake for hours. The goal of reading in bed is just to help you fall asleep within 10 minutes.Stress is one of the main causes of poor sleep. Relax yourself before getting into bed. Try controlling breathing exercises or taking yoga exercises to lower your stress level. These are just a few ways you can use to wake up earlier. Finding the best way is the most important, and it requires a little work. The key thing is that waking up should be a pleasantexperience. If you can make waking up something you are looking forward to, you're already halfway on your journey towards becoming an early riser.4.What do we know about the author?A.He has a full-time job outside. B.He likes lying in bed all day.C.He was once fired by a company. D.He has difficulty getting up early.5.The author gives us some tips to help us________.A.find the key to success B.become an early riserC.fall asleep within 10 minutes D.relax after a day's hard work6.Which of the following is NOT true about doing yoga?A.It is a good way to reduce stress. B.It can help you sleep.C.It can make you worried. D.It will help you wake up earlier.CWhat an athlete eats before, during and after exercise is important for comfort and performance during exercise. While eating soon before exercise doesn't provide the fuel needed for the activity, it can prevent hunger during exercise. The major source of fuel for muscles is stored in the days before exercise. This is one reason that the post-exercise meal is very important to recovery and being ready for the next exercise.Exercising on a full stomach is not a good idea. Food that remains in your stomach during an event may cause stomach upset. To make sure you have enough energy, yet reduce stomach discomfort, you should allow a meal to fully digest before the start of the event. If you have an early morning race or exercise, it's best to get up early enough to eat your pre-exercise meal. If not, you should try to eat or drink something easily digestible about 20~30 minutes before the event. The closer you are to the time of your event the less you should eat. You can have a liquid meal closer to your event than a solid meal because your stomach digests liquids faster.Because glucose(葡萄糖) is the energy source for most exercise, a pre-exercise meal should include foods that are high in carbohydrates and easy to digest. This includes foods such as fruit, bread, energy bars and drinks.Planning is necessary if you are competing in an all-day event, such as track meets or other tournaments. You should plan ahead and prepare meals and snacks that you have tried before. Do not experiment with something new on the event day.7.Fully digesting before an event may________.A.cause stomach upset B.give enough energy and stomach discomfort C.give comfort and good performance during exercise D.lead to hunger during exercise 8.From the passage we can learn________.A.you'd better have your pre-exercise meal after an early morning raceB.fruits and bread are high in glucose and easy to digestC.planning is not necessary for track meetsD.you can try something new for your meals on the event day9.What does the underlined word “digest” mean?A.Absorb. B.Interest. C.Disappear. D.Recover.10.What is the best title for the passage?A.Tips for eating before exercise B.What to eat during exerciseC.Fully digesting before exercise D.Planning for your exercise第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AThe idea behind Facebook is to make us feel connected all the time. But in my research, I’ve found that the truth is quite different.Technology, it turns out, has made being alone seem like a problem that needs solving. When young people are alone, even for a minute or two, they feel the need to connect, to get on Facebook or some other social networks and chat. But in connecting, they often end up feeling more isolated. Why? Because by being in constant (不断的) connection, they lose the ability to feel satisfied with their own company (独处).Facebook can help us keep in touch with our friends, but we too often use it instead of spending face-to-face time with them. And since we feel the need to keep up with them online, we don’t have moments of loneliness where we can collect our thoughts and learn how to be comfortable being alone.— Sherry Turkle, Professor Facebook connects more of us to more of our friends and family in more places than we have ever been connected before. Yes, Facebook is a huge time sink —maybe the biggest ever. Many people post useless stuff. And seeing too much of your friends’ lives can make you jealous (嫉妒的), but it won’t make you lonely.Jane, a former student of mine, who is back in New York after living abroad for ten years, told me that Facebook helps her a lot. The first time she moved back to New York from abroad, she felt disconnected from her family and friends. Now, because of lots of photos and information updates (更新), she knows what is happening with her friends all the time.In fact, if you are lonely in real life, you will be lonely online as well.— Sree Sreenivasan, Chief Digital Officer21. The underlined word “isolated” in Paragraph 2 means _____.A. freeB. selfishC. carelessD. lonely22. AOn a day in Arkansas, some fishermen saw a bear cub(幼兽)in a tree. As hours went by, its mother didn’t return. So they called wildlife biologist(生物学家)Eastridge. The bear cub was sick and hungry, weighing only 5 pounds with his eyes not completely open. Eastridge called Lisa Stewart, who works at Appalachian Bear Rescue in Tennessee. Stewart always makes room for a new cub.She named the bear Miracle because she thought it was a miracle that he had survived! As soon as she could, she stopped having contact with the cub so he would not become too used to humans. When the cub arrived, Stewart cleaned his eyes and put him in a house alone. Since Miracle was already 5 months old, Stewart gave him bowls of food and another bowl of a special formula(配方奶), similar to a bear mother’s milk. Sometimes, Miracle would reach his head out of his house and take some formula or food. But he didn’t eat too much.Miracle was too weak to be with other bears. So Stewart gave him a toy bear named Buddy. He took it into his house and covered it with straw(稻草). He fed Buddy, too. Stewart often found the toy covered in formula and berries and its ears full of apple chunks. Now that Miracle had Buddy, he came out of his house more often and wanted to eat. After two months, Stewart introduced Miracle to other bears so that they could learn from one another. She avoided any direct contact with Miracle and the other bears. Stewart wanted to make sure they stayed afraid of humans so they could go back into the wild again. She always hid behind a fence(栅栏)and threw food over the top secretly. The bears hunted for this food as they would soon do in the wild.Five months later, Rick Eastridge returned to pick up a healthy 90- pound Miracle and another bear from Arkansas named Rocky. Eastridge loaded the bears into boxes on his truck and transported them back to the wild. As soon as the bear boxes were opened, the two cubs ran to the woods- where they belonged.1. Contacting MiracleBA mother goat is able to pick out her own baby from its voice alone by the time the kid is just five days old.Researchers from University of London played kids’ bleats to female goats and studied their responses. They were surprised to find that the animals were able to pick out their own kids’ voices.“A mother and the kid rely a lot on smell to recognize one another and, in the wild, during the first week of their lives, the animals hide in grass and don’t call much. It’s a strategy they use to avoid enemies,” Dr Elodie Briefer, who led the research, explained to BBC News. “The mother calls to the kids when she wants them to come and feed, so we expected that kids would recognize the mothers’ voices.” In fact, this was the case for deer, which also use this hiding strategy, although they do not belong to the same family of species as goats. She and her team recorded and played back young kids’ calls to the female goats and recorded their responses. She explained, “Even when the calls came from kids that are five to six days old, we could see the mothers responding more to the voices of their own babies.” Hearing the voices of their own kids, the females would look towards the speaker that the sound was coming from, moving around and calling in response. The scientists say that understanding how goats behave and communicate is very important. “This helps us understand just how smart these animals are,” said Dr Briefer. “Farmers might be able to change their way to raise goats considering this natural behavior.”4. Sometimes owners forget that their cats are just as used to the warm shelter(住所)as they are. Some owners will leave their animals outside for a long period of time, thinking that all animals are used to living outdoors. This can put their pets in danger of serious illnesses. There are things you can do to keep your animals warm and safe.Keep your pets inside as much as you can when the weather is bad. If you have to take them out, stay outside with them. When you’re cold enough to go inside, they probably are too. If you must leave them outside for a long time, make sure they have a warm, solid shelter against the wind, thick bedding, and plenty of non-frozen water. If left alone outside, dogs and cats can be very smart in their search for warm shelters. They can dig into snow banks or hide somewhere. Watch them closely when they are left outdoors, and provide them with shelters of good quality. Keep an eye on your pets’ water. Sometimes owners don’t realize that a water bowl has frozen and their pets can’t get anything to drink. Animals that don’t have clean and unfrozen water may drink dirty water outside, which may contain something unhealthy for them.8. What do we learn about pets from Paragraph 1?A. Communities had almost twenty years to make the change. So some students went to school for seven years while others went for at least nine years. This difference gave researchers the chance to see if the additional schooling had any effect on intellectual development. All young men in Norway must take a test of their cognitive ability at age nineteen in preparation for required military service. This is commonly called an IQ,or intelligence quotient test. The researchers compared the test results of one hundred and seven thousand young men to their years of school. Taryn AnnGalloway is a researcher at the University of Oslo.“The young m en who were basically forced to stay in school for two years longer actually did have higher IQs. So,based on that,we were able to say that increasing compulsory schooling did actually have an effect on their cognitive abilities as measured at nineteen yea rs of age.” Taryn Ann Galloway says. The average IQ is one hundred. Most people score between eightyfive and one hundred fifteen.Ms.Galloway says students who attended school for nine years scored seven points higher than those who attended for seven years. Those who went for eight years scored about four points higher.Taryn Ann Galloway says,“So that’s still quite large.”The findings appear in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.Another recent study,in the journal Nature, found that IQ scores can rise or fall during the teenage years. In two thousand four, researchers from University College London tested thirty-three young people aged twelve to sixteen. They repeated the tests four years later. They found increases or decreases of as much as twenty points. Professor Cathy Price says the differences in performance could be the result of some teens being early or late developers. But she says it is equally possible that education played a part. She sees alesson for educators:“We hav e to be careful not to write off poorer performers at an early stage when in fact their IQ may improve significantly given a few more years.”1.According to the passage,in Norway ________.A.teens stay at school longer than those in other countries B.students usually begin school at 7C.the public must carry out the requirement at onceD.the government did a lot of things to improve students’ IQ 2.Young men in Norway must take an IQ test at 19 ________.A.to help researchers do a study on intellectual developmentB.to see whether their IQ scores rise or fallC.to prepare for the required military serviceD.to be allowed to graduate from the school3.How did the researchers do their study?A.By comparison.
