Where do you probably find the passage?A.In a textbook B.In an outdoor program brochure.C.In a sportswear advertisement D.In a gym notice. When my daughter was ten, she and my husband Joe, were united in their desire for a dog. As for me, I shared none of their canine just, because I have no time to take care of a dog. “But we’ll do it.” “Really? You’re going to walk the dog? Feed the dog? Bathe the dog?” “Yes, we promise.”They didn’t. From day two (everyone wanted to walk the cute puppy that first day), neither thought to walk the dog. While I was slow to accept that I would be the one to keep track of her shots, to schedule her vet appointments, to feed and clean her, Misty knew this one day one.Quickly, we developed something of a Vulcan mind meld She’d look at me with those sad brown eyes, beam her need, and then wait, trusting I would understand, which, strangely. I almost always did. She kept me company, snoring on my home-office couch as I worked, cradling against my feet as I read, and splaying across my stomach as I watched televisionEven so, I’d balk (畏缩,犹豫) silently as she and I walked. Not fair. One day my husband’s doctor uttered an unthinkable word: leukemic (白血病). I spent eight to ten hours a day with Joe in the hospital, doing anything and everything I could to ease his discomfort. Every part of my life changed; no part of my old routine remained.Save one: Misty still needed walking. At the beginning, when friends offered to take her through her paces, I declined because I knew they had their own households to deal with. As the months went by, I began to realize that I actually wanted to walk Misty. The morning walk before I headed to the hospital was a quiet, peaceful time to gather my thoughts before the day’s medical drama unfolded. The evening walk was a time to shake off the day’s upsets and let the worry tracks in my head go to white noise. After Joe died, Misty slept on his pillow.I’m grateful to a point. After years of balking. I’ve come to enjoy my walls with Misty. As I watch her chase a squirrel, throwing her whole being into the here-and-now of an exercise that has never once ended in victory, she reminded me, too, that no matter how harsh the present or unpredictable the future, there’s almost always some measure of joy to be extracted from the moment.41. The story came to its turning point when ____________.A.Joe died B.the writer began to walk the dogC.Joe fell ill D.the dog tried to please the writer44. Why did the writer continue to walk Misty while Joe was in hospital?A.Because the walk provided her with spiritual comfort.B.Because her friends didn’t offer any help.C.Because she could u nfold the day’s medical drama.D.Because she didn’t want Misty to be others’ companion45. What message does the author want to convey in the passage?A.One should learn to enjoy hard times.B.A disaster can change everything in life.C.Confronted with difficulty, we still have moments to enjoy.D.People will change their attitude toward you when you are in difficulty. One of the curious things about social networks is the way that some messages, pictures, or ideas can spread like wildfire while others that seem just as catchy or interesting barely register at allBefore you go deep into the puzzle, consider this: If you measure the height of your male friends, for example, the average is about 170 cm. You are 172 and your friends are all about the same height as you are. Indeed, the mathematical concept of “average” is a good way to capture the nature of this data set.But imagine that one of your friends was much taller than you. This person would dramatically skew the average, which would make your friends taller than you, on average. In this case, the “average” is a poor way to capture this data set.Exactly this situation occurs on social networks. On average, your coauthors will be cited more often than you, and the people you follow will post more frequently than you and so on.Now Lerman from University of Southern Caledonia has discovered a related paradox, which they call the majority illusion They illustrate this illusion with an example. They take 14 nodes linked up to form a small network. They then color three of these nodes and count how many of the remaining nodes link to them in a single step.In situation (a), the uncolored nodes see more than half of their neighbors as colored. This is the majority illusion—the local impression that a specific feature is common when the global truth is entirely different. While in situation (b) the majority illusion doesn’t occur. So how popular is it in the real world? It’s found out that the majority illusion occurs in almost all network s cenarios. “The effect is largest in the political blogs network, where 60% of nodes will have majority active neigbbours, even when only 20% of the nodes are truly active,” says Lerman. It immediately explains many interesting phenomena. For a start, it shows how some content can spread globally while other similar content does not—the key is to start with a small number of well-connected early adopters fooling the rest of the network into thinking it is common. The affected nodes then find it natural to follow the trend. A real spread finally comes into being. But it is not yet a marketer’s charter. For that, marketers must first identify the popular nodes that can create the majority illusion for the merger audience. These influencers must then be persuaded to adopt the desired behavior or product, which is essential to the prospect of the marketing plan.46. The phrase “skew the average” in the 3rd paragraph most probably refers to the action of__________.A.hiding the real average to be unrecognizable to othersB.producing an average against the general feature of dataC.working out the common feature suggested by the averageD.ignoring the average because of the frequency by which it is reviewed47. What does the difference between situation(a) and situation(b) lie in?A.The number of the nodes in the networkB.The manner of the connection between the nodes.C.The decision of which nodes to be colored.D.The influence of the network on the nodes.48. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?A.Majority illusion rarely bas impacts except in political blogs field.B.The majority illusion on social networks relies on it that people you follow post more than youC.The essence of successful opinion spread is to initiate the trend with well-connectedsharers.D.The spread scale of ideas on networks mainly depends on the quality of content.49. To guarantee the success of marketing promotion, it’s vital to __________.A.thoroughly understand the concept of majority illusionB.accurately figure out who is the powerful person to affect othersC.definitely decide who are the target audience for the promotionD.successfully convince the influencers to practice certain action50. What is most probably the title of the passage?A.The social network vision that tricks your mind.B.Who is stealing your network identity?C.Minority network opinion spread, curse or blessing?D.Have you been misled during the last political voting?Let’s take a moment to consider the words of one of America’s most remarkable philosophers, Henry David Thoreau.Thoreau spent the years 1845-1847 living on the outskirts of society in a small cabin in the woods by the side of Waldon Pond. He called this period of his life an experiment of intentional living and wrote this famous paragraph:I went to the woods because I wished to live intentionally, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow(精华)of life. There is great wisdom in Thoreau’s purpose here, and I think it’s very useful to ask ourselves this question:What would our lives be like if we sucked all the marrow out of life?If Thoreau’s quote sounds familiar, it may be from watching the film Dead Poets Society, a movie with deep wisdom. The film is about young men at a boarding school as they prepare to do good in the world because they have the privilege to bring about change. Their English teacher, played by Robin Williams, tries to convince them that they should live life well now instead of believing that they will find happiness after they reach certain goals. Part of his argument is conveyed by quoting this famous passage from Thoreau.Sucking the marrow out of life sounds simple enough, but as a matter of fact, it may be the most difficult thing that we can ever do. But it actually is as simple as it. Sounds—though “simple” is not quite the same thing as “easy”. I can think of one barrier that often keeps us from living our best lives. What keeps us from getting the most out of life is our desire for approval and fame. In the process of always looking for fame and glory, there is the danger that we will stop living. In order to seek approval from others, we fail to find a sense of approval within our own spirit. When we become aware that we are missing so much out of life, we can decide that we want to make changes. Our best move is to start small. If we are having a meal, whether a great festival feast or a modest supper, it is always within our power to take it slowly and really feel, taste, and enjoy the food before us. Few of us can easily do like Henry David Thoreau and get away from it all in the wilderness. But we can make small changes every single day.51. What wisdom is conveyed in Thoreau’s words?A.Stay away from city life. B.Live one’s life to the fullest.C.Only nature can bring happiness. D.One can never be too old to learn.52. Why did the author mention the film Dead Poets Society?A.To recommend a good film. B.To praise the teacher’s wisdom.C.To further illustrate Thoreau’s wisdom.D.To state the film was adapted fromThoreau’s works.53. What’s the author’s attitude towards people’s seeking for approval?A.Critical. B.Supportive. C.Sympathetic. D.Unconcerned. 54. How can people change life for the better according to the author?A.Live in the wildness. B.Set higher goals.C.Make small changes daily. D.Read more classics.55. What could be the best title of the passage?A.Ask for More:Thoreau Exposes the Meaning of LifeB.Sunk in Thought:Thoreau Outshines Ancient PhilosophersC.Aim High:Thoreau’s Practical Advice Ensures Successful LifeD.To Live Intentionally:Thoreau’s Philosophy Remains Valuable阅读表达During the final term of my theater and performance degree at the University of Leeds, I found myself standing outside Berkeley Court care home with three classmates and an underdeveloped idea. We planned to hold some interactive workshops with the residents to try to inspire memory and social engagement.I remember being nervous, aware that we were working with people who were vulnerable, and that I had no idea what I was doing. Some residents were almost nonverbal, some were clearly not with ability. Some were happy to see us, and some were not.I had decided to play music at the end of the session. We went with the song My Way because the residents, all roughly 80 years old, were probably listening to the hit song in their late 20s.Once I pressed play, it was as if a spell had been cast. Nearly everyone in the room stood up and sang what seemed like every word. I was so profoundly moved. Many of them were communicating much better. It looked and felt like magic.Off I went to drama school, but I thought about that experience almost daily. So when we were given the opportunity to write a script for a theater festival, I created a love story about music and dementia (痴呆), spanning 50 years of a couple’s life. And now, 10 years later, the show I made is running again in London thanks to the Music for Dementia campaign. When my grandma was diagnosed with dementia toward the end of her life, I didn’t struggle to communicate with her in the way that other people in their might have done. I felt more able to tune into what she needed and better equipped to see her underneath the disease.I now know that music-based intervention reduce the need for medication in more than 60% of people living with dementia. I don’t know what My Way would be, but I certainly think we should all strive to find our song and do our best to stay connected to the people we share it with.56. 2023_2024学年重庆市高三上册11月月考语文模拟测试卷(附答案)
