Parents should set strict rules to their children if they want them to succeed in the future.1.Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Since the world has changed so much in the past fifty years, advice our grandparents can give us is not useful. There is a common expression that goes, "with age comes wisdom." Wisdom is the ability to use your past experience to make good decisions about your future.Regardless of how much the world has changed in the past fifty years, I still believe the advice my grandparents can give me is good.My grandparents have had a lot of experiences and survived a lot ofhardships. When my great grandmother died young, my grandmother had to grow up fast and help raise her brothers and sisters. This was during the Great Depression, when people had to save every penny just to be able to get by. My grandmother has talked with me about how she got through these hard times, and by listening to her stories I have learned many valuable lessons. I have learned to value the things that I have and to work hard for things that I want. When it comes to taking care of my family, I always ask my grandmother for advice. My grandparents are also a good resource for advice, because they have been around longer and, therefore know more of the world. In my studies, I may have had the opportunities to travel all over the world. While both of my grandfathers have not traveled as much as me, that does not mean they have not experienced the world.During World War II, both of my grandfathers were stationed abroad. They not only lived in Europe for a long period, but they also were able to interact with troops of foreign armies. They did not have the educational opportunities that I have had, but that does not mean that I know more about the world than they do.Admittedly, there are some areas in which I cannot go to my grandparents for advice, namely technology. Cell phones and computers were not around until my grandparents retired, so they have never had to use this kind of technology for work or study. While my grandparents have tried to keep up with the times, they are certainly not experts. Whenever I visit my grandmother, for example, she always asks me to fix her computer. I would say the only thing I cannot go to my grandparents for advice is anything concerning technology.Even though there are certain areas in which my grandparents are not that well informed, this does not mean that they do not have good or useful advice.Grandparents' wisdom from the experiences they have had can give us insight and help us make decisions.题目: 是否应该releasing beavers□阅读:beavers should not be released in England1.Beavers use wood build dams,这样就会block the water flow2.Beavers 会dig holes,然后使ground above 腐烂,不利于farmland3.Beavers' teeth are so strong that they will burrow in trees and thus kill the trees听力:releasing beavers的好处大于坏处1.Beavers并不会在每条河流中build dams,很多build dams的河流是still的2.Beavers 通常在Long river 中,通常long river 水流很快,beavers 可以slow down the water flow,这样对农田有利3.

It is easier to be well educated today than it is in the past.

Nowadays people are more willing to help the people who they don’t know (for example, giving food and clothes to the people who need them) than they were in the past.

There is never a reason for people to be rude to another person.2010.8.21Last year I quarreled with my best friend, Jenny, for the most trivial things. I think it is theindignation that turned my mind, I snapped and struck her. Due to my impolite actions, I lost myfriend forever. I feel regretted. Now I come to know that no matter how angry we are, we shouldnot be rude to another person. The main reason for my propensity is that a polite attitude can avoid quarrel. All men make fault, but the more kindness and consideration we send out, the more returns to us. Take Li, myclassmate, as an example, last Sunday he was invited to attend a party. However, he arrived at theparty a bit later due to the traffic jam. He tried to make up by giving his apology, at the same timehe sent his little gift to all the present people. As you can imagine, all of us show sympathy andunderstanding to his experience instead of censure. From this example we can conclude that truepoliteness has a power, if you are polite, others will be polite with you.In addition to avoiding quarrel, politeness can help us achieve success as well. Here, I want toshare my brother 's experience with you. He attended a n interview i 2009. When a waiter filledhis cup with steaming tea, he stood up and said you” politely rather than ignored the waiteras other interviewees do. Owing to his politeness my brother impressed the interviewer deeply andsucceeded eventually. It seems to be incredible, but it does have its place. Because every companyneeds polite personnel to improve their whole image and service standards which are crucial tocompanies ' long term interests. Hence, I deem that can serve a catalyst inour future st but not least, politeness can help us build a harmonious society. According to a recent surveyconducted by Peking University, it is said that our politeness has infectious power. If we showpoliteness to the people we meet, then the people will be polite to others he will meet. It is adomino effect. At last, all of us can feel that we live in a polite and harmonious society.Furthermore, our manners can set a positive example to children. These children would be lessinvolved with violence and more socially active.Take individual ' s interests and society ' sinterests into account, I can reinf conclusionsafely that politeness is powerful and we should by no means be rude to others in order to achieveindividual success and build a harmonious society.。

The Pursuit of Fame and Fortune: Should One Consider the Downsides? In today's fast-paced and materialistic world, the desire for fame and fortune has become a common and often overwhelming urge for many individuals. The allure of being recognized, admired, and financially secure is undoubtedly seductive. However, the pursuit of fame and fortune is not without its downsides, and it is crucial to consider these factors before embarking on such a path.Firstly, the quest for fame and fortune can often lead to a loss of personal identity. As individuals chase after external validation and material possessions, they may neglect their inner selves, values, and passions. This can result in a sense of emptiness and dissatisfaction, as they may find that the fame and fortune they desired did not bring the fulfillment and happiness they anticipated.Secondly, the pursuit of fame and fortune can be fraught with mental and emotional challenges. The constant quest for validation and success can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress, and even depression. The pressure tomaintain a certain image or status can be overwhelming, and it can take a toll on one's mental health. Moreover, the quest for fame and fortune can often come at a cost to personal relationships. The pursuit of success can lead individuals to牺牲 their time, energy, and even loved ones. Relationships may suffer as a result of neglect or as a consequence of the changing priorities of the individual chasing fame and fortune.Additionally, the quest for fame and fortune can lead to unethical and immoral behaviors. Some individuals may resort to lies, deception, and unethical practices to achieve their goals. Such behaviors can damage their reputation and credibility in the long run, and may even lead to legal and ethical consequences. It is, therefore, imperative for individuals to carefully consider the downsides of pursuing fame and fortune before embarking on such a journey. It is essential to maintain a balance between one's personal life, values, and ambitions. It is also crucial to prioritize one's mental health and relationships, and to remain ethical and morally upright in all one's dealings. In conclusion, while the pursuit of fame and fortunecan be an exciting and rewarding endeavor, it is importantto remember that it is not without its downsides. It is crucial to consider these factors and to maintain abalanced and ethical approach towards achieving one's goals. By doing so, individuals can ensure that they do not牺牲their personal identity, mental health, relationships, or moral principles in pursuit of fame and fortune.**名利追求的利与弊**在如今快节奏和物质主义盛行的世界中,追求名利已成为许多人的共同且常常压倒一切的冲动。

Do we need "Never, never give up"?The expression "Never, never give up" means to keep trying and never stop working for your goals. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Near the end of the Second World War, Churchill delivered his most famous and the shortest speech: Never, Never Give Up. The British and people in many other countries weretremendously encouraged, and finally went through the hardest period in human history. "Never give up" represents a strong and positive life attitude. Some people are ready to quit when they feel they cannot endure the difficulties of some work or they think they cannot find a way to finish the required task. Such people usually become upset and disappointed and lose their self-confidence, although they virtually can do every thing well simply by trying once more. In cases such as acquiring second language, most people failed simply because they had given up. Acquiring second language might be the easiest task among diverse academic curriculums, because one can be successful only by plain repetition, though it is painstaking and time-consuming. Never give up. Such strong belief often gives us the second chance. The fact that we fail-somewhere does not mean we are going to fail everywhere, and especially it does not necessarily mean that we are deprived of opportunities to win there. There probably is a second chance. Many successful people did fail before. Yu Minhong, the founder of New Oriental School, was able to study in Peking University only after three attempts. He wasn't reckoned as successful after graduation, among many signs is the fact that almost all his classmates went abroad while he w~ each and every time refused by officials in visa-granting office for unexplainedreasons. Yet he never gave up, which makes his later success inevitable. Psychology teaches us that we do get what we want, if we know exactly what we want and want the right thing. First of all, we must make sure that our clearly defined goals are achievable, and that our carefully designed means are practicable. A superficial claim like I want to be a millionaire brings nothing. And an unrealistic goal like inventing a perpetual motion machine is absolutely meaningless. But if we want to acquire a second language, it is both realistic and meaningful. By careful planning, and relevant persistence we have no reason to fail. And numerous examples tell us that even if the methods are problematic, many still finally attain great achievements. Therefore, in most cases, the belief "Never, never give up" is really something that we should always bear in mind.。

However, the reading argues that because hydrogen can be extracted from many resources including water, fuel cell engines powered by this infinite source of energy are an extremely attractive alternative.Second, the lecturer refutes the claim in the reading that hydrogen cells are environmentally friendly. She argues that although engines that use hydrogen cells produce less pollution, the manufacturing of hydrogen cells generates large amounts of harmful by-products due to the burning of fossil fuels in the purification process.Third, although the reading suggests that hydrogen-based engines are more fuel-efficient and thus economically competitive than internal-combustion engines, the professor argues that such an advantage is undermined by the fact that fuel-cell engines are extremely expensive to manufacturebecause they require the addition of platinum, a very rare and expensive material. Car manufacturers and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile’s main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. By far, the most promising alternative source of energy for cars is the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine, which uses hydrogen to create electricity that, in turn, powers the car. Fuel-cell engines have several advantages over internal-combustion engines and will probably soon replace them.

Will your friends be there for you?1Friends also play a key role in helping us through the toughest times, of course.Socially isolated women with breast cancer are more likely to die from the illness because of the lack of care-giving and support from friends and family, according to a study at the University of California.'The benefits of friendships become even more important as we grow older, when events such as bereavement, divorce and people moving away, can reduce our social circle,' says clinical psychologist Sukie Bilkhu at Priory's Wellbeing Centre in Southampton. 'Close friendships provide us with an increased sense of belonging and self-worth that is incredibly important for our mental health and wellbeing.'What are your friendship needs?2Another factor to bear in mind is that we all have different friendship needs. 'The need for friends as we get older really varies according to each person's life experiences,' says Bilkhu. 'Some people value close-knit friends to help alleviate loneliness, while others feel happy and content in their own company. There are some who don't feel the need for any friendship "circles" as their immediate family fulfill this need. The key point is there isno "ideal" number of friends. What matters is the value a person places on friendships.'Interestingly, intelligence may also play a part in defining our friendship needs, according to a new study published in the British Journal of Psychology.Researchers found that the more social interactions with close friends a person had, the greater their self-reported happiness tended to be.Should you make more friends?3'The key is to explore what's really important in your life,' Bilkhu advises. 'If having large friendship circles isn't something that fulfils your psychological, physiological and emotional needs, you can explore other avenues instead. This might mean refreshing or rejuvenating your relationship with your partner or family, or developing relationships in other ways such as through music, writing, art, nature, healthy living or spirituality.' Indeed, having lots of friends doesn't necessarily make you happier or more fulfilled. It's worth remembering that friendships can also be a source of stress and conflict. Those old 'playground feelings' can still rear their heads on occasion: we've allfelt let-down, ignored or insulted (however mildly) by friends from time to time.So is it better to focus on a handful of close friendships? Or should we try to make new friends wherever we go? 'An alternative way to look at it is to be open to new possibilities of connecting with others,' says Bilkhu. 'As we grow older, we become stuck in our ways and can limit our potential for personal growth. So give yourself opportunities to "connect" wherever you are. And if friendships are high on your list of priorities, remain open to forging new ones. But remember, there are plenty of other ways to be happy and content.' Friends also play a key role in helping us through the toughest times, of course.

TPO 3The authenticity of the portrait of an elderly woman in a white bonnet attributed to Rembrandt was doubted in the reading. However, the lecture believes that this painting was indeed a masterpiece by Rembrandt. The reading argues that Rembrandt, as one of the most prominent painters in the world, is known for his attention to details, is unlikely make a mistake of inconsistence between the lavish fur and the servile white linen cap. However, the lecturer points out that the fur was later added on by other people for commercial purposes. When the fur is removed, the actual painting underneath matches with the rest of this portrait.Another controversy is the discordance of light and shadow in this painting. According to the reading, the dark color of the fur collar should leave a shadow rather than lighting up servants face. However, the lecturer mentioned that a whitish cloth revealed upon the removal of the dark fur collar. Therefore, in the original painting, the collar would have reflected the light and then illuminated her face. Finally, the author suspects the genuineness of this painting due to glued wood panel, a style that has never been observed in Rembrandt’s other paintings. Nevertheless, the lecture explained that it was also added by the others. In addition, when all the wood pieces near the margin are removed, the remaining central part is made from the wood coming from the same tree as that of his self-portrait, providing a strong evidence for the authenticity of this painting.TPO 15Cane toads, firstly introduced from America, proliferated in Australia and thus posed a threat to some local animals. The reading listed three measures to control the spread of cane toads, but the lecturer points out limitations to these solutions.First, the reading suggests that building national fence would prevent cane toads’ spread, which has been proved successful for the case of rabbits in early twentieth century. On the contrary, the lecturer thinks this method would be unsuccessful in that young toads and toads’ eggs will be carried by the water stream through the gaps between the fence to the other side. And It takes only a few young toads or toad eggs for this species to thrive in a new area.As for the second way mentioned in the reading-capturing and destroying toads near water by volunteers-the lecturer believes that it comes with a severe side effect. Without/Lacking in training, most volunteer will fail to distinguish between cane toads and native frogs especially when they are young, and thus they might accidentally kill the endangered native frogs. Finally, according to the reading, a special virus can be designed to specifically hurt cane toads will effectively curb their population increase without harming other creatures. The professor admits that this virus can reduce cane toad’s population in Australia. However, chances are that this virus will be transported to Central and South America through researchers or pet collectors. As a result, it will damage the whole ecosystem because cane toads are native species there.TPO 16The reading passage addresses the concern that the archaeology industry in the United Kingdom encountered many limitations and problems. However, in the lecture, the professor says that new rules and guidelines introduced in 1990s actually solved these problems. To start with, the reading claims that many artifacts were lost or destroyed due to the increasing construction work. On the contrary, the professor says that the new rules required examinations before the construction, which were conducted by professional archaeologists of the site, to see if the site was of archaeological interest. The company would either excavate the artifacts or build around the site once it is considered to be archaeologically valuable.Secondly, the reading states that previous funds provided by the government to support the archaeological research are insufficient. The new rules demanded that the construction company, rather than the government, should pay all the cost incurred during the whole process, including the initial examination as well as the extra work carried out throughout the preservation plan. This new source of funding allowed archaeologists to study a greater range of projects than they could in the past. Finally, according to the reading, there are only few positions in archaeology before andmany archaeology-related talents have to find other jobs instead. However, according to the new rules, all stages of the preservation plan were hiring archaeologists to do all kinds of work, ranging from examining the site, processing data to writing reports. As a result, the rules have created many job opportunities in the archaeological field.TPO 20The “let it burn” policy was questioned after the fire in Yellowstone. However, the professor stood by the policy by mentioning positive changes happening in Yellowstone after the fire.According to the reading, a variety of trees were heavily scorched from the fire, let alone many small plants in the forest. However, the listening points out that the fire has actually diversified the vegetation in Yellowstone afterwards. This is because some plants now have an open unshaded space to thrive and heat from the fire also caused some seeds to successfully germinate.Second, while the reading believes that the fire has either killed or permanently driven away animals, the listening mentioned a stronger food chain, and a more vibrant ecosystem formed later. Accompanying diversification of vegetation, seared area became an ideal living place for small animals like rabbits. In turn, their predators also arrived in this land.Lastly, the reading says that the 1988 fire shortened the tourist season of Yellowstone park, and had subsequently inflicted huge damage on local economy. The listening points out that low rainfall, strong wind and other extreme weather conditions caused the fire to be massive. Such combination of bad weather has never happened afterwards; Yellowstone has not witness a fire of such magnitude after 1988. It is now still one of the most popular places to visit in America.TPO 23The reading mainly raised three hypotheses that explain the decline in numbers of yellow cedars. However, the listening points out the weaknesses of these hypotheses respectively.First, the reading believes that insect parasites, specifically cedar bark beetles, are responsible for the population decline since record shows that beetles attacks have killed yellow cedars. However, the listening points out that those trees that died from beetles’ attack was already sick and was going to die anyway. In fact, yellow cedars are much more resistant to bug infection as their bark and leaves contain chemical substances that is poisonous to insects.Second, the reading says brown bears usually claw at yellow cedars for bark as their food resource. As a result, trees weaken and then drop in numbers. However, according to the listening, yellow cedars grown on both mainland and islands across northwestern coast. Islands are not habit for brown bears, yet yellow cedars there are also disappearing. Thus, the aggressive feeding habit of brown bears is not an adequate explanation. The third hypothesis mentioned by reading concerns with climate change. The alteration of temperature patterns has rendered the roots of yellow cedar so sensitive that they are easily damaged by freeze of winter, which in turn undermines their health and causes their death. The listening, however, accuses the reading of neglecting the fact that more trees are dying at lower elevation, which is warmer, than at higher elevation. This is completely opposite to what the reading has suggested. Even though yellow cedar roots did become sensitive, it is not the reason for population decline.TPO 26The reading claims that Zebra Mussel’s invasion into North America is unstoppable and will subsequently become a menace to native fish populations there. The lecturer, however, believes that there are indeed ways to curb the spread of Zebra Mussels, and even if they manage to invade North America, they will not necessarily harm all the fish population.First, according to the reading, these mussels, originating from Eastern Europe, get a free ride to North America in the fresh water named ballast water at the bottom of the ships. However, the listening points out that mussels cannot live in salt water. Therefore, if all the ships are required to empty its ballast water and then fill in with salt water during thetrip, all Zebra mussels cannot possibly survive their journey to North America, let alone settling down there.Second, the reading says that once the mussels arrive in North America, their hardy nature and lack of predators will help them dominate the whole area, but the lecturer finds this unconvincing. He said that in Europe, there were no predators for Zebra mussels at first, either. However, they did not thrive because local aquatic birds gradually recognized them as a new source of food, and started to consume majority of them. The lecturer is confident that the same situation will occur in North America again.Lastly, the reading expresses its concerns over the detriment mussels will bring to overall fish population by explaining that they will fight many fish for plankton, a major food resource for both sides. While the lecturer admits this disadvantage of mussel colonization, he also suggests that the advent of mussels will be a blessing for some fish living at the bottom of the lake as these fish feed on nutrients generated by Zebra mussels.TPO 30The author in the passage suspects the burning mirror theory in Greek’s defense against Roman navy. However, the lecturer thinks that the points made in the reading are unconvincing.First, the reading believes Greeks did not possess the technology to produce a mirror large enough to ignite ships. The listening points out that the burning mirror did not have to be a single piece of glass. It can be accomplished by arranging dozens of polished copper into a parabolic curve, whose properties were known to Greek at that time. Second, according to the reading, experiments showed that burning mirror would have taken ten minutes to set unmoving wood on fire, and Roman ships would not stay static for that long. However, the listening mentions that Greeks did not have to aim at wood on the ship. A sticky substance called pitch used to seal gaps between woods can catch fire within seconds with burning mirror, and the fire will quickly spread to the wood, and then finally the whole ship.Third, the reading states that there was no reason for ancient Greeks to develop anotherweapon since they had already possessed the flaming arrow, which was more efficient to set fire than the burning mirror. However, the listening argues that Roman soldiers were every familiar with those flaming arrow, so they would be prepared to tackle fires caused by them. In contrast, burning mirror could set fire anywhere possible on the ship and thus baffle the soldiers.TPO 43The reading proposes three hypotheses on the living style of the agnostids, and the speaker has pointed out the weaknesses of them respectively.First, the reading states that agnostids, like many other arthropods, may be free-swimming predators that feed on small animals. The speaker challenges this statement by saying that free-swimming predators usually have large developed eyes enabling them to find food. However, agnostids are nearly blind and also do not have special sensory organs to locate their food. Therefore, it is impossible for them to prey on small organisms in ancient oceans.Second, according to the reading, agnostids may have dwelled on the seafloor where dead organisms and bacteria can serve as their food resources. The listening mentions that the fact that agnostids inhabited multiple geographic areas that scatter across large distances indicated their ability to move fast. This is uncharacteristic for seafloor dwellers who usually move slowly and stay localized. Thus, agnostids might not be seafloor dwellers. Last, the speaker says that a great quantity of parasites would have easily kills the hosts they live on. Thus, in order for the hosts to survive, the number of agnostids must be within certain limits, contradictory to the discovery that many species contain great amount of fossilized agnostids. In other words, agnostids could not have existed as parasites as they would have easily killed their hosts.TPO 44Quite opposite to what is said in the reading, the listening holds the opinion that many archaeologists believe the silver coin was originated in European and brought to North America by the Norse, a European explorer, by providing three pieces of evidenceFirst, the reading material states that the distance between the discovery site of the coin and Norse settlement was more than a thousand kilometers, indicating a small chance that the coin belonged to them. However, the lecture opposes it by saying that native Americans were interested in collecting things from other places, so it is possible that they reached Norse settlements during long distance travels and brought the coin back to Maine.Second, the reading claims that the absence of other coins denied the ownership of the found silver coin to the Norse. However, the Norse only stayed in America temporarily, and the listening suggests a possibility that they might have packed all their valuable possessions when returning to Europe. Thus, it makes perfect sense that only one coin was left behind and discovered later.Third, the lecturer agrees with the reading in that native Americans may fail to recognize silver coins as currency, but it also points out that the Norse surmised native Americans liked beautiful things. Silver coins might be appealing to native Americans as they could have been used in necklaces or other type of jewelry. In other words, in contrast to the reading, the Norse could have traded with native Americans with these coins.。

Is it better to enjoy your money when you earn it or is it better to save your money for some time in the futureUse specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.范文The Advantages of Saving MoneyEveryone must work to live, but many people are fortunate enough to make more money than they immediately need. What should they do with this extra incomeWhile it is tempting for people to spend it all on things they desire,I believe it is better to save at least a portion of the extra income for the future.By saving money, people give themselves more security. They cannot predict the future; perhaps one day they will be jobless. At a time like this their savings can spare them a great deal of suffering and help to see them through the hard time.In addition, saving money allows people to build up a larger sum. They can then buy something more worthwhile than the small things they can but if they spend the money right away. For example, they may be able to buy a house with their savings. Finally, the practice of saving helps people develop the habit of setting goals and planning for their future. In this way they are bound to lead more meaningful and successful lives. Most people would like to enjoy their money immediately.Nobody likes to wait for the things that he wants. However,if we learn to save our money,we can gain more advantages in the future. We will lead more secure and, thus, happier lives. We will also be able to buy the things we truly want but cannot afford right now. In this temple as in people"s heart abraham lincoln who saved the union will be enshined forever这是写林肯纪念堂上的一句话. DISHONESTY KILLS RELIABILITYThere are certain considerations or factors that everyone takes into account in a relationship. People may look for honesty, altruism, understanding, loyalty, being thoughtful etc! Everyonewould more or less wish that the person s/he isdealing with, has some of these virtues above.Putting them in an order according to their importance, however can be very subjective and relative. When someone asks him/herself the question “What do Iconsider to be the most important thing in my relationship”the answerdepends on a lot of factors such as how his/her earlier relationships were. After stating that everyone’s opinioncan be different about this, for me honesty, in other words, always telling thetruth is the most important consideration in a relationship. Opposite of thisis inarguably lying and if someone needs to lie, either s/he is hidingsomething or is afraid of telling me something. In any relationship of mine, I would wish that first of all, the person I’m dealing with is honest. Even though s/he thinks thats/he didsomething wrong that I wouldn’t like, s/he’d better tell me the truth and notlie about it. Later on if I find out about a lie or hear the truth from someoneelse, that’d be much more unpleasant. In that case how can I ever believe ortrust that person again How can I ever believe that this person has enoughconfidence in me to forgive him/her and carry on with the relationship fromthere. So if I cannot trust a person any more, if the person doesn’t think Ican handle the truth, there’s no point to continuing that relationship.Although I would like to see altruistic, understanding, thoughtful and loyal behavior from people, an instance of the opposite of these behaviorswould not upset me as much as dishonesty would. Among all the possiblebehaviors, dishonesty is the only one for me that terminates how I feel about aperson’s reliability. Therefore honesty would be my first concern and themost important consideration in a relationship. The lecture and the listening have different ideOffering employees the option of a four-day workweek won’t affect the company profits, economic conditions or the lives of employees in the ways the reading suggests.First, offering a four-day workweek will probably force companies to spend more, possibly a lot more.Adding new workers means putting much more money into providing training and medical benefits.Remember the costs of things like health benefits can be the same whether an employee works four days or five. And having more employees also requires more office space and more computers. These additional costs would quickly cut into company profits.Second, with respect to overall employment,it doesn’t follow that once some employees choose a four-day workweek, many more jobs will become available.Hiring new workers is costly,as I argued a moment ago.And companies have other options. They might just choose to ask their employees to work overtime to make up thedifference.Worse, companies might raise expectations. They might start to expect that their four-day employees can do the same amount of work they used to do in five days.If this happens, then no additional jobs will be created and current jobs will become more unpleasant. Finally, while a four-day workweek offers employees more free time to invest in their personal lives,it also presents some risks that could end up reducing their quality of life.Working a shorter week can decrease employees’ job stability and harm their chances for advancing their careers.Four-day employees are likely to be the first to lose their jobs during an economic downturn. They may also be passed over for promotions because companies might prefer to havefive-day employees in management positions to ensure continuous coverage and consistent supervision for the entire workweek. Depending on personal experience, personality type and emotional concern, we find that some people hold the idea of A meanwhile othersprefer to B, from my point of view, it is more advisable to chose A rather than B. Admittedly, __________________A也有好的地方______________.By he same token, however, ______________B更好____________.Takingsintosaccount of all these factors, we may reach the conclusion that_____________.一, “点对点”的结构“点对点”的结构指的是把综合写作中的阅读材料和听力材料的每一个对应点都单独提炼出来用一个段落加以阐述.这种结构的优点是可以把阅读文章和听力材料的对应关系更细致地进行说明,使文章层次感强,同时反映出考生提炼信息和对比信息的能力更高.比如下面的一篇范文就是ETS给出的满分作文,是一篇典型的“点对点”型的结构安排方式.Introduction-Relationship between reading and lecture The lecturer talks about research conducted by a firm that used the group to handle their work. He says that the theory stated in the passage was verydifferent and somewhat inaccurate when compared to what happened in reality.First Point of Contrast First, some members got free rides. That is, some didn’t work hard but got recognition for the success nonetheless. This also indicates that people who hard were not given recognition they should have gotten. In other words, weren’t given the opportunity to “shine”. This directly contradicts what th e passage indicates.Second Point of Contrast Second, groups were slow in progress. The passage says that groups are more responsive than individuals because of the number of people involved and aggregated resources. However, the speaker talks about how the firm found that groups were slower than individuals in decision making. Groups needed time for meetings, which are necessary procedures in decision making. This is another place where experience contradicted theory.Third Point of Contrast Third, influential people might emerge and lead the group towards glory If the influent people are going in the right direction there would be no problem. But in cases where they go in the wrong direction, there is nobody that has influence to counter the decision made. In other words, the group might turn dictatorship, with the influential party as the leader, and might become less inits thinking. They might become one-sided, and thus fail to succeed. Introduction-Relationship between reading and lecture The lecturer talks about the natural process of crystallization and how the speed of cooling can influence such process, which is proved by Bowen’scrystallization experiment explained in the reading passage.Points in the lecture Natural crystallization happens when magma, which is extremely hot in its molten form deep in the earth, gradually cools off when it moves towards the surface of the earth. During the cooling process, the energy from heat is lost, and the atoms which compose the magma begin to move more slowly, forming into an orderly pattern, which turns the magma into a solid crystal structure. However, if the cooling process takes place too rapidly, then there is not enough time for the atoms to be arranged into such an orderly pattern. Therefore, crystallization can’t take place. Instead, a brittle, glass-like material will form.Points in the Reading Norman Bowen’s experiment in the 1920sproved this theory. By collecting and melting elements in rocks, Norman created artificial magma in his laboratory. He first cooledthe magma slowly, as in the natural crystallization process, and got mineral crystals. But then he suddenly replaced this normal cooling with rapid freezing, and found frozen glass materials surrounding the solid crystal structure.可以看出,“点对点”和“面对面”的结构有各自的特点,但总得来说“点对点”的结构在“对比型”的新托福综合写作中要更适用一些,因为它能把矛盾点逐一呈现,更细致地体现了听力和阅读材料之间的关系.但掌握“面对面”的结构也很有必要,因为它可以适用一些听力和阅读材料之间的关系是一致、延伸或解释型的考题.此外,在考生无法寻找到所有的对应点时,用“面对面”的结构也算是一种补救措施.附:新托福综合写作sample answer 两篇,针对的是同一个考题,第一篇用的是“点对点”结构,第二篇用的是“面对面”的结构._______________________________________________________祝你成功啦!小站托福范文侃哥托福范文。

托福TPO7综合写作阅读原文文本: In an effort to encourage ecologically sustainable forestry practices, an international organization started issuing certifications to wood companies that meet high ecological standards by conserving resources and recycling materials. Companies that receive this certification can attract customers by advertising their products as eco-certified. Around the world, many wood companies have adopted new, ecologically friendly practices in order to receive eco-certification. However, it is unlikely that wood companies in the United States will do the same, for several reasons. First, American consumers are exposed to so much advertising that they would not value or even pay attention to the eco-certification label. Because so many mediocre products are labeled “new” or “improved”, American consumers do not place much trust in advertising claims in general. Second, eco-certified wood will be more expensive than uncertified wood because in order to earn eco-certification, a wood company must pay to have its business examined by a certification agency. This additional cost gets passed on to consumers-American consumers tend to be strongly motivated by price, and therefore they are likely to choose cheaper uncertified wood products. Accordingly, American wood companies will prefer to keep their prices low rather than obtain eco-certification Third, although some people claim that it always makes good business sense for American companies to keep up with the developments in the rest of the world, this argument is not convincing. Pursuing certification would make sense for American wood companies only if they marketed most of their products abroad. But that is not the case—American wood businesses sell most of their products in the United States, catering to a very large customer base that is satisfied with the merchandise. Well, despite what many people say, there is a good reason to think that many American wood companies will eventually seek eco-certification for the wood products. First off, companies in the United States don't treat all advertising the same. They distinguish between advertising claims that companies make about their own products and claims made by independent certification agencies. Americans have a lot of confidence in independent agencies. Thus ecological-minded Americans are likely to react very favorably to wood products ecologically certified by independent organization with an international reputation for trustworthiness. Second point ,of course it is true that American consumers care a lot about price ,who doesn't? But studies of how consumers make decisions show that price alone determines consumers' decisions only when the price of one competing products is much higher or lower than the other. When the difference between two products is small, say, less than 5 percent, as is the case with certified wood, American often do choose on factories other than price. And Americans are becoming increasingly convinced of the value of preserving and protecting the environment. And third, US Wood companies should definitely pay attention what is going on in the wood business internationally. Not because of foreign consumers but because of foreign competitors. As I just told you, there is a good chance that many American consumers will be interested in eco-certified products, and guess why? If American companies are slow capturing those consumers, you can be sure that foreign companies will soon start crowding into the American markets ,offering eco-certified wood that domestic companies don't. The lecture and the reading passage give contradictory opinions on the topic of ecocertification, a form of accreditation conferred by on international agency in recognition of a company’s eco-friendly practices. The passage explains that it is not necessary for American wood companies to pursue ecocertification while the lecture provides several counterarguments to this view. First, the lecturer argues that the reading passage is too general in its statement that American consumers reject advertising completely. He asserts that Americans do not trust advertising claims for a product when these claims are made by the company that sells the product. When a claim is made by an independent third party such as a wood certification company, he posits, consumers are likely to respond very positively to the certified product. The lecturer also refutes the second point in the reading that price-sensitive American consumers are likely to choose cheap wood products without certification. The professor contends that certified wood is only slightly more expensive than uncertified wood, and therefore, he argues, consumers will tend to ignore the price difference and be convinced by other factors like the value of preserving and protecting environment. Finally, the author states that it makes no sense for American companies to pursue ecocertification when they market most of their products in their own country. In contrast, the speaker refutes this idea by stating that if the American companies do not do this, the foreign companies which produce the ecocertified wood will enter into the US market.。

I firmly believe that good communication can build bridges between people, playing an indispensable role in academia, career, and daily life. Therefore, I decided to invest my knowledge and skills into creating valuable documents to help people find inspiration and direction when needed. 1We've all been there - staring at a blank page, the cursor blinking mockingly, as we rack our brains trying to come up with something, anything, to write for that dreadful English composition assignment. The pressure's on, the deadline is looming, and in a moment of desperation, we turn to our friends, classmates, or maybe even the internet, hoping to find inspiration or ready-made passages to "borrow" from. But hold up, my fellow students! Before you succumb to the temptation of blindly copying someone else's work, let me share a cautionary tale that might just save you from a world of trouble. It was the fall semester of my junior year, and I was drowning in a sea of assignments, extracurriculars, and the ever-present struggle to maintain a social life. When our English teacher assigned a five-page argumentative essay on the impact of social media, I'll admit, I panicked. With so much on my plate, the thought of researching, outlining, and crafting an original piece seemed daunting, to say the least. That's when my friend, let's call him Jake, offered a lifeline. He had taken the same class the previous year and still had his essay saved on his computer. "Just change a few words here and there," he said, "and you'll be golden." Desperate times called for desperate measures, or so I thought.Armed with Jake's essay, I set to work, diligently rearranging sentences, swapping out vocabulary words, and tweaking the structure ever so slightly. I convinced myself that I was merelyusing his work as a "guide" and that the final product would be significantly different from the original. Boy, was I wrong.Fast forward to the day our essays were due. I turned in my masterpiece, feeling equal parts relieved and satisfied with my handiwork. Little did I know, the storm was brewing.A week later, our teacher called me into her office, her expression grim. She had run our essays through a plagiarism detection software, and the results were damning. Not only had I lifted significant portions of Jake's work, but I had also failed to properly cite the sources he had used. In short, I had committed academic dishonesty, a grave offense in the eyes of our school's honor code.As the weight of my actions sank in, I felt a mixture of shame and regret. I had let myself down, betrayed the trust of my teacher, and jeopardized my academic standing, all for the sake of a shortcut that, in hindsight, wasn't worth it.The consequences were swift and severe. I received a failing grade for the assignment, was placed on academic probation, and had to attend a disciplinary hearing where I had to explain my actions to a panel of faculty members and administrators. The experience was humbling, to say the least, and it taught me avaluable lesson about the importance of academic integrity and the perils of blindly relying on others' work. But my story doesn't end there. In the aftermath of my transgression, I realized that I had been selling myself short all along. Yes, the assignment was challenging, but I possessed the skills and abilities to tackle it head-on, without resorting to dishonest means. We all have our strengths, our unique perspectives, and our individual voices waiting to be heard. By blindly copying someone else's work, we not only cheat ourselves out of the opportunity to grow and improve our writing skills, but we also risk losing our authenticity – the very thing that makes our words resonate and stand out. From that point on, I vowed to approach every writing assignment with a renewed sense of determination and a commitment to originality. I learned to embrace the writing process, from brainstorming and researching to drafting and revising. I sought out feedback from my peers and professors, not to copy their work, but to gain insights that would help me refine my own ideas and strengthen my arguments.Along the way, I discovered that writing wasn't just a chore to be endured, but a powerful tool for self-expression andintellectual growth. Each essay, each research paper, each creative piece became an opportunity to explore new ideas, challenge my own perspectives, and find my unique voice as a writer. And you know what? The more I embraced the writing process, the easier it became. The words flowed more naturally, the arguments became more compelling, and the satisfaction of crafting an original piece far outweighed the temporary relief of relying on someone else's work.My fellow students, I implore you: Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't succumb to the temptation of plagiarism, no matter how overwhelming the pressure may seem. Embrace your strengths, trust in your abilities, and let your unique voice shine through in your writing.Writing is a journey, a process of self-discovery and personal growth. It's not about regurgitating someone else's ideas or copying their style; it's about finding your own path, your own way of expressing yourself, and leaving your mark on the world. So the next time you find yourself staring at that blinking cursor, take a deep breath and remember: You've got this. You are capable, you are talented, and your voice deserves to beheard. Believe in yourself, work hard, and let your authentic self shine through in every word you write. And who knows? Your original piece might just be the one that inspires someone else down the line, creating a ripple effect of authenticity and integrity that resonates far beyond the classroom walls.篇2Everyone's a Genius, But If You Judge a Fish...You know how the saying goes - "Everyone's a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend its whole life thinking it's stupid." I've heard that quote more times than I can count, and it rings so true. We're all skilled and talented in our own ways, with our own unique strengths and abilities. The problem arises when we start comparing ourselves to others or blindly believing what they tell us about ourselves and our capabilities.I see it all the time at school. There's this unspoken hierarchy, where certain skills and talents are valued over others. If you're a math whiz or a star athlete, you're treated like royalty. But if your talents lie elsewhere – in art, music, writing, or just being a kindand compassionate human – you're often overlooked or made to feel inferior. It's a toxic mindset, and one that I've fallen victim to far too many times. I remember back in middle school, when I was struggling with algebra. No matter how hard I tried, those equations just didn't make sense to me. My teacher, bless her heart, tried her best to explain it to me in different ways, but it was like my brain was hardwired to reject anything mathematical. At the same time, my best friend was breezing through algebra like it was a walk in the park. She's always been a numbers person, and she just "got it" in a way that I didn't. I started to doubt myself and my abilities, thinking that if I couldn't master algebra, I must be stupid. It wasn't until my English teacher pulled me aside one day and pointed out my exceptional writing skills that I realized the error of my thinking. Just because I wasn't a math genius didn't mean I was unintelligent – I just had a different set of skills and strengths. From that moment on, I made a conscious effort to stop comparing myself to others and to embrace my own unique talents. I doubled down on my writing, pouring my heart andsoul into every essay and creative piece. And you know what? I started to thrive. My confidence grew, and I realized that being a "fish" in the literary world wasn't a bad thing at all.Unfortunately, not everyone is so quick to learn this lesson. I've had friends and classmates who have allowed others' perceptions and judgments to dictate their self-worth and their pursuit of their passions. There was this one girl in my drama club who had the most incredible singing voice I'd ever heard. She could hit notes that would give you chills and convey emotions in a way that would make your heart ache. But whenever we'd have auditions for the school musical, she'd psych herself out and crumble under the pressure. Her parents, bless their hearts, meant well. They wanted her to have a "practical" career, something that would provide financial stability. So they'd constantly discourage her from pursuing her dreams of being a performer, telling her that it was too risky and that she should focus on more "realistic" goals. It broke my heart to see her lose that spark, that passion for singing that had once burned so brightly within her. She ended up going to a regular four-year university and majoring inbusiness, all because she allowed her parents' doubts and societal pressures to overshadow her own dreams and talents.Don't get me wrong – there's nothing inherently wrong with pursuing a business degree or any other "practical" career path. The problem lies in doing it solely because you've been made to feel like your true passions and talents aren't valid or worthwhile.I've also seen the opposite happen, where people become so blinded by others' praise and expectations that they lose sight of their own limitations and boundaries. There was this one guy in my friend group who was an incredible artist. He could create these breathtakingly detailed portraits and landscapes that looked like they belonged in a museum.Naturally, everyone around him – teachers, parents, peers –would fawn over his talents and tell him how he was destined for greatness in the art world. And for a while, he ate it up. He started to believe that he was infallible, that anything he created was a masterpiece, and that he didn't need to put in the hard work and practice that true mastery requires.Needless to say, his ego eventually caught up with him. When it came time to apply for art schools and scholarships, his subpar portfolio and lack of development led to rejection after rejection. It was a harsh wake-up call, one that could have beenavoided if he hadn't blindly believed the hype and had instead remained grounded and committed to continuous improvement. The moral of the story? Believe in yourself and your abilities, but don't let others' perceptions – positive or negative – define you. Embrace your strengths and talents, but also recognize your weaknesses and areas for growth. We're all works in progress, constantly evolving and expanding our capabilities. Most importantly, don't judge yourself or others based on arbitrary standards or societal expectations. Just because you're not a mathematical genius doesn't mean you're any less intelligent or capable than someone who is. Conversely, just because you excel in one area doesn't mean you're infallible or above the need for hard work and improvement. We're all unique individuals with our own special gifts and talents. The key is to nurture and cultivate those gifts, while remaining humble, grounded, and open to growth andself-improvement. It's a delicate balance, but one that's essential for living a fulfilling and authentic life.So the next time someone tries to discourage you from pursuing your passions or tells you that you're not good enough, remember the wise words of that quote: "Everyone's a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend itswhole life thinking it's stupid." Embrace your inner fish, swim in your own lane, and never let anyone else's doubts or expectations dim your shine.篇3We've all been there - staring at a blank page, the deadline for our English essay looming, and a sinking feeling that our writing just isn't up to par. In moments of desperation like these, it can be tempting to look for a shortcut, whether that's plagiarizing someone else's work or paying for an essay online. But I'm here to tell you, as a fellow student, that's the last thing you want to do. Not only is it unethical and could get you in serious trouble, but it also robs you of the opportunity to improve your own skills and truly understand the material. You see, each of us has our own unique strengths and weaknesses when it comes to subjects like English. Maybe you're a whiz at math and science but struggle with creative writing. Or perhaps you have a gift for language and poetry but find essays on literary analysis challenging. The point is, we all have areas we need to work on, and that's okay! The key is to recognize your weaknesses and actively work to improve them, not take the easy way out.I'll be the first to admit that English composition can be daunting. Putting your thoughts into a clear, well-structured essay is no easy feat, especially when you're juggling other classes and extracurricular activities. But here's the thing - the more you practice and push yourself, the better you'll become. It's like exercising a muscle; the more you work it, the stronger it gets. And let's be real, trying to pass off someone else's work as your own is just plain dishonest. Not only are you cheating yourself out of valuable learning experiences, but you're also disrespecting the hard work and talent of the original author. Plus, most teachers these days are pretty savvy when it comes to detecting plagiarism, so you're taking a huge risk for a shortcut that might not even pay off.Instead of looking for someone else's words to borrow, why not focus on honing your own voice and developing your unique writing style? Sure, it might take more effort, but the sense of pride and accomplishment you'll feel when you submit an essay that's truly your own is unmatched. And who knows? You might even discover a hidden talent or passion for writing that you never knew you had.But let's say you're really struggling with a particular assignment or concept. That's where the beauty of collaboration and seeking help comes in. Don't be afraid to reach out to your teacher, a writing tutor, or even a classmate who seems to have a better grasp on the material. Discussing your ideas, getting feedback, and learning from others' perspectives can be incredibly valuable and can help you approach your writing in a whole new light. And remember, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Just because someone might be a better writer than you doesn't mean you should blindly believe or copy their work. Instead, use their skills as motivation to improve your own abilities and learn from their techniques. Who knows, maybe there's an area where you excel that they could learn from as well!At the end of the day, the most important thing is to stay true to yourself and your values. Cheating and plagiarism might seem like a quick fix, but they ultimately undermine the very purpose of education: to grow, learn, and develop skills that will serve you for the rest of your life. So the next time you're tempted to take a shortcut, remember - your voice matters, andyour hard work and perseverance will pay off in ways you can't even imagine.。

There is never a reason for people to be rude to another person.
2010.8.21
Last year I quarreled with my best friend, Jenny, for the most trivial things.
From this example we can conclude that truepoliteness has a power, if you are polite, others will be polite with you.
In addition to avoiding quarrel, politeness can help us achieve success as well. Here, I want toshare my brother’s experience with you. He attended an interview i n 2009. When a waiter filledhis cup with steaming tea, he stood up and said “thank you” politely rather than ignored the waiteras other interviewees do. Owing to his politeness my brother impressed the interviewer deeply andsucceeded eventually. It seems to be incredible, but it does have its place. Because every companyneeds polite personnel to improve their whole image and service standards which are crucial tocompanies’ long term interests. Hence, I deem that can serve a catalyst in our future st but not least, politeness can help us build a harmonious society. These children would be lessinvolved with violence and more socially active.
Take individual’s interests and society’sinterests into account, I can reinforce my conclusionsafely that politeness is powerful and we should by no means be rude to others in order to achieveindividual success and build a harmonious society.。
