You need to travel from your home to a place 40 miles (64 kilometers) away. Compare the different kinds of transportation you could use. Tell which method of travel you would choose. Give specific reasons for your choice. There are many different types of transportation which I could use to travel 40 miles from my home. The type of transportation I would choose depends mainly on how fast I need to get there and how much money I have. Some possibilities are walking, horse backriding, driving, or using a taxi, bus, or train. The most economical choice is walking. It costs nothing, is healthful, but it is time consuming. The average person can walk about 4-5 miles per hour, so this trip would take atleast 10 hours to complete. That means I would probably have to spend the nightsomewhere along the way. If I have to spend money for a hotel, then this choice really isn'tfree. Plus, I might arrive at the end tired and with sore feet! After walking comes animaltransportation. In my area, horses are not common, so it wouldn't be a likely choice. I believe that a 40-mile trip would take 2 or 3 hours on a horse. If I had free access to a horse, the cost would be minimal. Of course, I'd have to know how to ride! With a car, the travel time is minimal (under one hour), with onl the cost of gasoline toconsider. However, I don't own a car, and car rentals are expensive. Shared taxis are oneform of affordabletransportation, with 4 or 5 people sharingthe cost of a car trip to acommon destination. The only downside is finding people to share the fare with me.Fortunately, I live in an urban area, where there are buses and 'trains to ride. One of these would be my first choice. In short the kind of transportation depends on how fast I need to get to my destination and how much money I have. If I need to get there fast, and money isn't important, I can hire a private taxi.Since I don't own my own car, I don't have that option, and I have never walked 40 miles in one trip. I usually depend on the bus and trains, and would do so in this circumstance. They are cheap, dependable and reliable. When you write your answer, you are not limited to the examples listed in the question. It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members. Compare the contributions of artists to society with the contributions of scientists to society. Which type of contribution do you think is valued more by your society? Give specific reasons to supportyour answer.Artists and scientists both make valuable contributions to our society. It may seem sometimes that artists are more valued. That's because those artists who are famous make a lot of money. However, they are relatively few. The fact is that scientists are more valued. They get more respect from society for the work they do.Artists reflect their times and their culture. A painter or a writer shows us in pictures and words what we're like as a people. They record our culture for future generations.Actors and other performers, like singers and dancers, entertain us. They take our minds off our troubles, and remind us how beautiful and exciting our imaginations can be. Artists also help keep their societies mentally and emotionally healthy. For example, children that participate in the arts, such as painting or music, in school do better in their other studies. Art of all types is necessary to the human spirit. The contributions scientists make to society are more obvious. They include the cars we drive, the computers we use at home and at work, and the appliances that help us cook our meals and clean our houses. All of these come from the ideas and hard work of scientists.Because of scientific discoveries, we're living longer and more healthful lives. Scientists also contribute to the arts. Movies are the result of science. So are television, radio, and the recording of music on CDs.Generally, scientists don't make as much money as famous artists like film stars, opera singers or successful painters. However, our society gives them more respect, and they generally make a good living. Scientists are considered to be serious professionals, while artists are sometimes viewed as flaky, irresponsible people. So overall, I'd have to conclude that we value scientists more. Some people believe that the best way of learning about life is by listening to the adviceof family and friends. Other people believe that the best way of learning about life is throughpersonal experience. Compare the advantages of these two different ways of learning about life. Which do you think is preferable? Use specific examples to support your preference. Both learning through personal experience and learning through the advice of others can help you in life. If you don't have a lot of knowledge about something, the advice of people you trust can be very valuable. They can tell you about their own experiences, and about the advantages and disadvantages of a situation. Then you can consider your ownwants and needs and decide what you should do. Pretty soon, you'll have more experience of your own. When you 're thinking about what you want to do with your life, friends and relatives are a great resource. They can give you information about things like jobs, school, volunteering, and traveling to other parts of the world. They've done a lot of learning in their lives, and you can use it to decide what you want to do with yours. In some cases, there's no real substitute for personal experience. For example, I really don't like to make presentations in class. I know I'll make mistakes, even if I'm thoroughly prepared and know all about my topic. Nothing but experience can help me deal with the nervousness I feel. I know that the feedback I get from the teacherand from the other students will help me learn from those mistakes. At least I'm confident that the next class presentation I make will be much better than the last one.In the end, I think that the best way to learn about life is by experiencing it firsthand. No one else can teach you how to get along with other people, how to realistically judge your own abilities, or how to understand who you are. You can only learn these things by dealing with situations every day. Experience is the best teacher. The speaker raises serious counterarguments against the reading paragraphs by providing drastically different evidences regarding the effects of the advertisement, the impact of self-selecting medication, and the impact of trends in thepharmaceutical industry.Firstly, knowing more information from the ads will not necessarily help the patients make better-informed decisions, as the reading argues. On the contrary, patients, without professional training and knowledge, will be more susceptible to misunderstanding information. For example, they would focus only on the positive sides of a certain medicine while ignoring the serious side effects. In addition, if the patients bear the responsibility of prescribing their own medication, they assume more responsibility to their own health. This makes doctors less liable for potential risks and undesirable consequences.Lastly, as for the new trends' benefits to the patients, the speaker does not challenge the reading directly. Instead, he argues that the new medicine, which will count for most of the ads may not necessarily be the best medicine, even though the patients can inform their doctors about the new products.
In the lecture, the professor discusses the topic of the impact of television on children's development. The professor presents two main points to support his argument. First, he mentions that excessive television watching can lead to a decrease in children's physical activities, which can have negative effects on their health. Second, he explains that watching too much television can also hinder children's cognitive and social development. The professor points out that when children spend too much time watching television, they are less likely to engage in physical activities such as playing outside or participating in sports. This sedentary lifestyle can lead to obesity and other health issues. For example, a study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that children who watched more than two hours of television per day had a higher risk of developing obesity compared tothose who watched less. This shows that excessivetelevision watching can have a detrimental impact on children's physical well-being.Furthermore, the professor explains that excessive television watching can also hinder children's cognitive and social development. He mentions that children who spend too much time in front of the TV may have difficulties focusing and paying attention in school. Additionally, they may have limited social interactions and struggle with developing important social skills. For instance, a study published in the Journal of Pediatrics found that children who watched more than three hours of television per day had lower academic performance compared to those who watched less. This demonstrates that excessive television watching can impede children's overall development.
TASK 1 Integrated WritingMany scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible First, atmospheric pressure at Venus’ surface is at least 90 times greater than the pressure at Earth’s surface This means that a force of 100 kilograms is pressing down on every square centimeter of surface All spacecraft that have landed on Venus have been crushed by this extreme pressure within an hour of landing. Almost anything humans might land on Venus would be crushed as well.Second, as far as we know, there are no reservoirs of water on Venus' surface, and the planet s atmosphere, made up mostly of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid, contains hardly any oxygen or water vapor Water and oxygen would therefore probably have to be supplied to Venus from Earth. The idea of ensuring a regular supply of water and oxygen from Earth is impractical in the extreme and would probably defeat the purpose of establishing a permanent station on Venus.Third, very little sunlight reaches the planet s surface. About 60 percent of the sunlight that hits Venus is reflected back into space by the thick clouds that fill the atmosphere, which means that only 40 percent of the sunlight can get through the clouds Below these clouds is a dense layer of carbon dioxide, which blocks even more light, so very little light reaches the surface. The lack of light would prevent the use of solar power cells, so humans could not get electricity to power their machines and equipment.DirectionsYou have 20 minutes to plan and write your response.
TPO 3The authenticity of the portrait of an elderly woman in a white bonnet attributed to Rembrandt was doubted in the reading. However, the lecture believes that this painting was indeed a masterpiece by Rembrandt. The reading argues that Rembrandt, as one of the most prominent painters in the world, is known for his attention to details, is unlikely make a mistake of inconsistence between the lavish fur and the servile white linen cap. However, the lecturer points out that the fur was later added on by other people for commercial purposes. When the fur is removed, the actual painting underneath matches with the rest of this portrait.Another controversy is the discordance of light and shadow in this painting. According to the reading, the dark color of the fur collar should leave a shadow rather than lighting up servants face. However, the lecturer mentioned that a whitish cloth revealed upon the removal of the dark fur collar. Therefore, in the original painting, the collar would have reflected the light and then illuminated her face. Finally, the author suspects the genuineness of this painting due to glued wood panel, a style that has never been observed in Rembrand t’s other paintings. Nevertheless, the lecture explained that it was also added by the others. In addition, when all the wood pieces near the margin are removed, the remaining central part is made from the wood coming from the same tree as that of his self-portrait, providing a strong evidence for the authenticity of this painting.TPO 15Cane toads, firstly introduced from America, proliferated in Australia and thus posed a threat to some local animals. The reading listed three measures to control the spread of cane toads, but the lecturer points out limitations to these solutions.First, the reading suggests that building national fence would prevent cane toads’ spread, which has been proved successful for the case of rabbits in early twentieth century. On the contrary, the lecturer thinks this method would be unsuccessful in that young toads and toads’ eggs will be carried by the water stream through the gaps between the fence to the other side. And It takes only a few young toads or toad eggs for this species to thrive in a new area.As for the second way mentioned in the reading-capturing and destroying toads near water by volunteers-the lecturer believes that it comes with a severe side effect. Without/Lacking in training, most volunteer will fail to distinguish between cane toads and native frogs especially when they are young, and thus they might accidentally kill the endangered native frogs. Finally, according to the reading, a special virus can be designed to specifically hurt cane toads will effectively curb their population increase without harming other creatures. The professor admits that this virus can reduce cane toad’s population in Australia. However, chances are that this virus will be transported to Central and South America through researchers or pet collectors. As a result, it will damage the whole ecosystem because cane toads are native species there.TPO 16The reading passage addresses the concern that the archaeology industry in the United Kingdom encountered many limitations and problems. However, in the lecture, the professor says that new rules and guidelines introduced in 1990s actually solved these problems. To start with, the reading claims that many artifacts were lost or destroyed due to the increasing construction work. On the contrary, the professor says that the new rules required examinations before the construction, which were conducted by professional archaeologists of the site, to see if the site was of archaeological interest. The company would either excavate the artifacts or build around the site once it is considered to be archaeologically valuable.Secondly, the reading states that previous funds provided by the government to support the archaeological research are insufficient. The new rules demanded that the construction company, rather than the government, should pay all the cost incurred during the whole process, including the initial examination as well as the extra work carried out throughout the preservation plan. This new source of funding allowed archaeologists to study a greater range of projects than they could in the past. Finally, according to the reading, there are only few positions in archaeology before andmany archaeology-related talents have to find other jobs instead. However, according to the new rules, all stages of the preservation plan were hiring archaeologists to do all kinds of work, ranging from examining the site, processing data to writing reports. As a result, the rules have created many job opportunities in the archaeological field.TPO 20The “let it burn”policy was questioned after the fire in Yellowstone. However, the professor stood by the policy by mentioning positive changes happening in Yellowstone after the fire.According to the reading, a variety of trees were heavily scorched from the fire, let alone many small plants in the forest. However, the listening points out that the fire has actually diversified the vegetation in Yellowstone afterwards. This is because some plants now have an open unshaded space to thrive and heat from the fire also caused some seeds to successfully germinate.Second, while the reading believes that the fire has either killed or permanently driven away animals, the listening mentioned a stronger food chain, and a more vibrant ecosystem formed later. Accompanying diversification of vegetation, seared area became an ideal living place for small animals like rabbits. In turn, their predators also arrived in this land.Lastly, the reading says that the 1988 fire shortened the tourist season of Yellowstone park, and had subsequently inflicted huge damage on local economy. The listening points out that low rainfall, strong wind and other extreme weather conditions caused the fire to be massive. Such combination of bad weather has never happened afterwards; Yellowstone has not witness a fire of such magnitude after 1988. It is now still one of the most popular places to visit in America.TPO 23The reading mainly raised three hypotheses that explain the decline in numbers of yellow cedars. However, the listening points out the weaknesses of these hypotheses respectively.First, the reading believes that insect parasites, specifically cedar bark beetles, are responsible for the population decline since record shows that beetles attacks have killed yellow cedars. However, the listening points out that those trees that died from beetles’ attack was already sick and was going to die anyway. In fact, yellow cedars are much more resistant to bug infection as their bark and leaves contain chemical substances that is poisonous to insects.Second, the reading says brown bears usually claw at yellow cedars for bark as their food resource. As a result, trees weaken and then drop in numbers. However, according to the listening, yellow cedars grown on both mainland and islands across northwestern coast. Islands are not habit for brown bears, yet yellow cedars there are also disappearing. Thus, the aggressive feeding habit of brown bears is not an adequate explanation. The third hypothesis mentioned by reading concerns with climate change. The alteration of temperature patterns has rendered the roots of yellow cedar so sensitive that they are easily damaged by freeze of winter, which in turn undermines their health and causes their death. The listening, however, accuses the reading of neglecting the fact that more trees are dying at lower elevation, which is warmer, than at higher elevation. This is completely opposite to what the reading has suggested. Even though yellow cedar roots did become sensitive, it is not the reason for population decline.TPO 26The reading claims that Zebra Mussel’s invasion into North America is unstoppable and will subsequently become a menace to native fish populations there. The lecturer, however, believes that there are indeed ways to curb the spread of Zebra Mussels, and even if they manage to invade North America, they will not necessarily harm all the fish population.First, according to the reading, these mussels, originating from Eastern Europe, get a free ride to North America in the fresh water named ballast water at the bottom of the ships. However, the listening points out that mussels cannot live in salt water. Therefore, if all the ships are required to empty its ballast water and then fill in with salt water during thetrip, all Zebra mussels cannot possibly survive their journey to North America, let alone settling down there.Second, the reading says that once the mussels arrive in North America, their hardy nature and lack of predators will help them dominate the whole area, but the lecturer finds this unconvincing. He said that in Europe, there were no predators for Zebra mussels at first, either. However, they did not thrive because local aquatic birds gradually recognized them as a new source of food, and started to consume majority of them. The lecturer is confident that the same situation will occur in North America again.Lastly, the reading expresses its concerns over the detriment mussels will bring to overall fish population by explaining that they will fight many fish for plankton, a major food resource for both sides. While the lecturer admits this disadvantage of mussel colonization, he also suggests that the advent of mussels will be a blessing for some fish living at the bottom of the lake as these fish feed on nutrients generated by Zebra mussels.TPO 30The author in the passage suspects the burning mirror theory in Greek’s defense against Roman navy. However, the lecturer thinks that the points made in the reading are unconvincing.First, the reading believes Greeks did not possess the technology to produce a mirror large enough to ignite ships. The listening points out that the burning mirror did not have to be a single piece of glass. It can be accomplished by arranging dozens of polished copper into a parabolic curve, whose properties were known to Greek at that time. Second, according to the reading, experiments showed that burning mirror would have taken ten minutes to set unmoving wood on fire, and Roman ships would not stay static for that long. However, the listening mentions that Greeks did not have to aim at wood on the ship. A sticky substance called pitch used to seal gaps between woods can catch fire within seconds with burning mirror, and the fire will quickly spread to the wood, and then finally the whole ship.Third, the reading states that there was no reason for ancient Greeks to develop anotherweapon since they had already possessed the flaming arrow, which was more efficient to set fire than the burning mirror. However, the listening argues that Roman soldiers were every familiar with those flaming arrow, so they would be prepared to tackle fires caused by them. In contrast, burning mirror could set fire anywhere possible on the ship and thus baffle the soldiers.TPO 43The reading proposes three hypotheses on the living style of the agnostids, and the speaker has pointed out the weaknesses of them respectively.First, the reading states that agnostids, like many other arthropods, may be free-swimming predators that feed on small animals. The speaker challenges this statement by saying that free-swimming predators usually have large developed eyes enabling them to find food. However, agnostids are nearly blind and also do not have special sensory organs to locate their food. Therefore, it is impossible for them to prey on small organisms in ancient oceans.Second, according to the reading, agnostids may have dwelled on the seafloor where dead organisms and bacteria can serve as their food resources. The listening mentions that the fact that agnostids inhabited multiple geographic areas that scatter across large distances indicated their ability to move fast. This is uncharacteristic for seafloor dwellers who usually move slowly and stay localized. Thus, agnostids might not be seafloor dwellers. Last, the speaker says that a great quantity of parasites would have easily kills the hosts they live on. Thus, in order for the hosts to survive, the number of agnostids must be within certain limits, contradictory to the discovery that many species contain great amount of fossilized agnostids. In other words, agnostids could not have existed as parasites as they would have easily killed their hosts.TPO 44Quite opposite to what is said in the reading, the listening holds the opinion that many archaeologists believe the silver coin was originated in European and brought to North America by the Norse, a European explorer, by providing three pieces of evidenceFirst, the reading material states that the distance between the discovery site of the coin and Norse settlement was more than a thousand kilometers, indicating a small chance that the coin belonged to them. However, the lecture opposes it by saying that native Americans were interested in collecting things from other places, so it is possible that they reached Norse settlements during long distance travels and brought the coin back to Maine.Second, the reading claims that the absence of other coins denied the ownership of the found silver coin to the Norse. However, the Norse only stayed in America temporarily, and the listening suggests a possibility that they might have packed all their valuable possessions when returning to Europe. Thus, it makes perfect sense that only one coin was left behind and discovered later.Third, the lecturer agrees with the reading in that native Americans may fail to recognize silver coins as currency, but it also points out that the Norse surmised native Americans liked beautiful things. Silver coins might be appealing to native Americans as they could have been used in necklaces or other type of jewelry. In other words, in contrast to the reading, the Norse could have traded with native Americans with these coins.。

Task:It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?. We all crave knowledge, especially in this Age of Information, but what is the best source of knowledge? Are we to believe Albert Camus, who stated” The place we are to get knowledge is in books”? Or are we better served by following Albert Einstein's counsel that “The only source of knowledge is experience”? Although books have their place in one's learning, there is no substitute for experience; indeed, it is experience that is ultimately the most important source of knowledge.First, let us consider the knowledge needed to undertake a profession-for example, that of a physician. Knowledge gained from books provides the foundation of a doctor's training: study in a medical school begins with a near-overload of reading on anatomy, physiology and maladies both rare and common. However, during this time the medical student is also learning through experience, beginning with dissecting cadavers from almost the first day of medical school. Then, the aspiring physician must complete four years of residency, consisting of actual supervised experience at a hospital in which he or she now must put into practice all of the knowledge he or she has edge of dealing with patients, prescribing medication, and the joy and sadness of saving and losing patients; in other words, it is through experience that these residents finally learn what it means to be a doctor. What about knowledge other than professional expertise-for example, knowledge about another culture? In this realm as well, both books and real-life experience enrich and edify us. For example, Paris is perhaps the most talked-about and written-about city in the world. We could read Hemingway's A Moveable Feast, in which he describes the excitement and intellectual spirit-as well as the restaurants and plentiful red wine-of Paris in the 1920's. Or, we could travel to Paris and eat at bistros, walk across the Pont Neuf and look at the river Seine, visit the Louvre museum, and have adventures of our own. Clearly, most people would have attained more lasting and vivid knowledge by visiting Paris on their own rather than reading about it secondhand. In summary, experience, rather than books, is more central to our quest for learning, especially with regard to professional expertise. With regard to learning about another culture, experience is also irreplaceable. Yet not everyone in the world will have the health or financial resources to carry out a trip to Paris. But many people have access to a local library where they can borrow A Moveable Feast and, at no cost, read Hemingway's vibrant descriptions of Paris. We cannot forget the complementary and unique knowledge afforded by books, but experience is the most precious source of knowledge. Some people say that computers have made life easier and more convenient. I deem the first one as the premier choice. Among countless factors, there are three conspicuous aspects as follows. The main reason for my propensity that students should take classes in many subjects is that theycan make full use of the abundant resources that a university has to offer. A university has plentyof educational and research resources. It is a very good idea to make full use of these valuableassets while studying in the university. The best way to achieve this is to take a variety of subjectsas much as possible. Through learning these courses, a student can get access to knowledge andresources in different areas. On the contrary, if a student only specializes in one subject, he willnot have a chance to get access to other resources offered by the university.Another reason can be seen by every person is that by choosing many subjects students can broaden their knowledge and make a solid foundation for their future concentrated study. Whatever the student will concentrate on in his senior years in college, it is necessary that hechoose a wide range of subjects to build the knowledge foundation. Take the field of BusinessManagement for example, the student has to acquire knowledge in writing, accounting, economicsand human resource management before he can successfully start his major concentration argument I support in the first paragraph is also in a position of advantage because studentscan be more adaptable in their future career if they choose a variety of subjects during theiruniversity study. It is obvious that the development of modern society requires people with inter-disciplinary and comprehensive knowledge. If a student chooses a variety of subjects in hisuniversity study, and gained a breath and width of knowledge, he will be more adaptable to therequirement of the society, and be able to easily adjust to many kinds of jobs. This will benefit hisfuture career. In a word, taking into account of all these factors, we may reach the conclusion that studentsshould take classes in many subjects in a university. In 1990, new rules and guidelines were adopted in the United Kingdom that has changed the whole field of Archaeology in that country. The new guidelines improved the situation in all there areas discussed in the passage.First, the new guidelines state that before any construction project can start, the construction site has to be examined by archaeologists to see whether the site is of archaeological interest or value. If the site is of archaeological interest, the next step is for the builders, archaeologists and local government officials to get together and make a plan for preserving the archaeological artifacts, either by building around them or by excavating and documenting them properly before the construction is allowed to proceed.Second, an important part of the new guidelines is a rule that any archaeological work done on the construction site will be paid for by the construction company not by the government. The construction company has to pay for the initial examination of the site, and then for all the work carried out under the preservation plan. This is a whole new source of financial support. The funding from construction companies has allowed researchers to study a far greater range of archaeological sites than they could in the past.Last, the new guidelines provide a lot of paid work for archaeologists, work that didn’t exist before. Expert archaeologists are now hired at all stages of the process to examine the site for archaeological value, then to help draw up the preservation plan to do the research in a professional scientific manner and finally to process the date and write reports and articles. The increased job and career opportunities in Archaeology have increased the number of professional archaeologists in Britain, which is now the highest it’s ever been. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The best way to travel is in a group ledby a tour guide. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. There are a lot of views whether the best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide. Differentpeople has different viewpoint. In my opinion, a group led by a tour guide is the best way totravel. The argument for this view goes as follows:In the first place, there are many advantages when people travel in a group. First, people will notfeel boring in a long trip. People can talk, laugh and make joking like a big family. Second, thegroup will help you a lot when you have any emergency. The people in the group could help youfigure out the awkward situation that will be unimaginable when you travel alone. Third, with thegroup discount, such as the discount for airplane ticket, the hotel, and the admission ticket, travelers can save a lot of money when they use the group discount. In the second place, there are many advantages too when people travel led by a tour guide. Thetour guide will arrange all the details about the trip in advance. The traveler need not worry aboutwhere to find the hotel, where to rent the car, and how to find the direction. It will make the trip a little bit easy. Another advantage is that led by a tour guide will save much time than travelingalone. With the professional knowledge, tour guide will make the smartest schedule. I wouldnever forget that one of my friend, a city tour guide in the Shanghai, China, said that she can leadtraveler to visit the whole city by one day which people should spend two or three days to finishit. In conclusion, there are many advantages when people travels in a group led by a tour guide, suchas save money, save time, do not feel boring, and is easy to take care of. Therefore, I stronglyagree that the best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide.。

literature has caused unfortunate effects on the reading public, the cultural general and literature itself. On the contrary, the professor strongly contradicts with it.To begin with, according to the reading passage, the author mainly talks about reading less literature cannot provide readers with intellectual stimulation.By contrast, the lecturer disagrees with it and she reasons that a book doesn’t have to be literature to be intellectually stimulating.Science books, history and political analysisaren’t literature but they are often of high quality and some of those books are just as creative and well-written as novels and poems. So don’t assume that someone who isn’t reading literature isn’t reading a good book.To be followed, the reading passage indicates that the culture is in decline. However, the speaker holds the opposite opinion and she says that people are not just spending less time in literature and they are spending less time with books in general. However, today, there are many culturally valuable material that isn’t written such as a brilliant song and good movie.People are not wasting their time when they listen to good songs and watch good movies. Those non-literal activities will not lower the culture.Even some of those creative forms can speak more directly to contemporary concerns than literature does.Lastly, the writer in the reading part says that it is the readers’ fault to lead to the less support for literature.By comparison, the listening material presents a totally different opinion that it is the authors’ fault because today’s literature is intended to be difficult to understand. So don’t assume the earlier’s generations of readers would read a lot modern literature today. In 1990, new rules and guidelines were 托福综合写作低分范文

托福综合写作范文(满分).docthe united kingdom (sometimes referred to as britain)has a long and rich history of human settlement. traces of buildings, tools, and art can be found from periods going back many thousands of years: from the stone age, through the bronze age,the iron agethe time of the roman colonization, the middle ages, up to the beginnings of the industrial age yet from most of the twentieth century, the science ofarchaeology-dedicated to uncovering and studying old cultural artifacts -was faced with serious problems and limitations in britain.first, many valuable artifacts were lost to construction projects.the growth of britain's population, especially from the 1950s onspurred a lot of new construction in british cities, towns, and villages. while digging foundations for new buildings, the builders often uncovered archaeologically valuable ually, however, they proceeded with the construction and did not preserve the artifacts.many archaeologically precious artifacts were therefore destroyed. second, many archaeologists felt that the financial support for archaeological research are inadequate. for most of the twentieth century, archaeology was funded mostly throughgovernment funds and grants which allowed archaeologists to investigate a handful of the most important sites but which left hundreds of other interesting projects without support. furthermore, changing government priorities brought about periodic reductions in funding.third, it was difficult to have a career in archaeology.archaeology jobs were to be found at universities or with a few government agencies, but there were never many positions available. many people who wanted to become archaeologists ended up pursuing other careers and contributing to archaeological research only as unpaid amateurs.。

The speaker raises serious counterarguments against the reading paragraphs by providing drastically different evidences regarding the effects of the advertisement, the impact of self-selecting medication, and the impact of trends in the pharmaceutical制药的 industry.First, knowing more information from the ads will not necessarily help the patients make better-informed decisions, as the reading argues. On the contrary, patients, without professional training and knowledge, will be more susceptible易受影响的 to misunderstanding information. For example, they would focus only on the positive sides of a certain medicine while ignoring the serious side effects. In addition, if the patients bear the responsibility of prescribing 开药,吩咐用药 their own medication, they assume more responsibility to their own health. This makes doctors less liable for potential潜在的risks and undesirable consequences.Lastly, as for the new trends' benefits to the patients, the speaker does not challenge the reading directly. Instead, he argues that the new medicine, which will count for most of the ads may not necessarily be the best medicine, even though the patients can inform their doctors about the new products. 使用时不能和小朋友互动(ask question and get feedback)2. 父母与孩子一起读书可以增进感情例文: The speaker rebuts反驳 the reading's argument by pointing out the inadequacy of the web-storybook services' interaction with children, the incompleteness of the data pool, and by undermining the assumption that saving parents' reading time is a benefit. The speaker begins by stating that merely pronouncing the words and story for the children will not provide adequate learning experiences. Despite the time saved and pronunciation utilities laid out in the reading, the web services can only respond with "correct" or "not correct". The lack of feedback to children's questions will not create an effective learning process. Then the speaker goes on to argue that the current web-storybook services have a very limited collection of books, thus not being able to save parents the cost of new books as the reading states, because the parents still have to buy many books that the web services do not provide.Lastly, the speaker challenges the validity有效,正当 of the assumption of saving parents' time to read stories to children. The reading argues that saving the time is a benefit for the parents, but the speaker maintains that the whole point of reading stories is far beyond reading stories alone. In contrast, it is an essential way of communicating and building relationship between parents and children.

对于考试的目的“托福考试官方指南”(以下简称“指南”)中明确的定义:“This task gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to show that you can municate in writing about academic information you have read and listened to.”
PART ONE
(Before you start writing, briefly reread the passage, consult your notes, and make a very brief outline of the points you wish to make.) (The writer is very specific and has organized his points so that they are parallel with one another: in each of the supporting paragraphs, the lecturer’s observation of what really happened is given first, then explicitly connected to a theoretical point from the reading.)
(Thespecific ideas, explanations, and arguments in the lecture that oppose or challenge points in the reading.)
