Dragon Boat Festival Speech
Hello everyone! I'm so excited to talk to you today about one of my favorite holidays – the Dragon Boat Festival! It's a really fun day filled with delicious food, awesome activities, and cool traditions.
The Dragon Boat Festival happens on the 5th day of the 5th month on the Chinese calendar. This year it falls on June 18th. It commemorates the life and death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet who lived a long time ago during the Warring States period.
The biggest tradition is eating zongzi! Zongzi are these tasty rice dumplings wrapped up in bamboo or reed leaves. They're usually stuffed with different fillings like meat, beans, egg yolks, or sweet things like jujubes. My favorite kind has pork and chestnuts inside. Yum!
Another popular activity is watching or even participating in dragon boat races! These are big boat races with ornate dragon
designs on the boats. The paddlers have to be really synchronized as they race along. It's so cool to see!
People also like to drink realgar wine during this festival. Don't worry, kids don't actually drink the wine part! But it's bright red and has realgar powder mixed in, which is supposed to ward off evil spirits and illness.
Hanging up icons of Zhi Nu, the weaving girl, is another fun tradition. The story goes that she was a heavenly weaver who fell in love with an immortal cow herder named Niu Lang. They could only meet once a year on this day when magpies formed a bridge across the Milky Way for them!
There are usually lots of other festivities too like performances, eating lychee fruits, hanging aromatic plants, and people fill the day with all sorts of fun dragon themed activities.
I really love the Dragon Boat Festival! It's an awesome way to celebrate our heritage, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the start of summer. The food is amazing and I always have a blast watching the races and dragon dances. Hopefully you've learned a bit more about this great holiday. Thanks for listening!

Dragon Boat Festival is one of my favorite holidays! It comes in late spring or early summer every year. There are so many fun traditions and yummy foods to enjoy.
First, let me tell you about the legend behind this festival. A long, long time ago, there was a famous poet and minister named Qu Yuan. He loved his country very much. But the king didn't listen to his good advice and kicked him out. Poor Qu Yuan was so sad that he drowned himself in a river. When the people found out, they raced out in boats to try and save him. They beat drums and splashed water with their paddles to scare away the evil spirits. They also threw rice dumplings wrapped in leaves into the river so the fish wouldn't eat Qu Yuan's body. Even though they couldn't save him, people have celebrated Dragon Boat Festival every year to honor brave Qu Yuan's spirit.
For the festival, people decorate with zongzi, which are the leaf-wrapped rice dumplings. They come in different shapes and get stuffed with yummy fillings like sweet bean paste, meat, or egg yolk. My favorite part is eating zongzi! My grandma makes the best ones. She lets me help wrap them up. I love the sticky rice and the savory pork filling. Zongzi can be steamed, boiled, or even fried. I could eat a whole bamboo steamer full!
Another fun tradition is the dragon boat races. These long boats get brightly painted with a dragon head on the front. The rowers have to paddle in sync, keeping time with the drumbeats. It's like a intense rowing contest between different teams. The boats practically fly across the water! It's so cool to watch. I cheer really loudly for my favorite boat.
On this holiday, we also drink realgar wine which is supposed to prevent disease and bad luck. Of course, kids like me only get a tiny sip! The wine has beautiful reaslgar crystals dissolved in it that make cool patterns. Some people hang calamus sweet flag plants or pictures of Qu Yuan's face on their door too. There are also fun activities like making zongzi arts and crafts or watching cultural performances.
My family always goes to the festivals in the park or by the river. I love looking at the dragon boat displays and watching the races. One year, I even got to ride in a dragon boat! We had matching life jackets and got to learn the paddling chants. Maybe when I'm older, I'll join a real dragon boat racing team. My parents take me to the booths selling zongzi, realgar wine, and festival snacks too. I always get my face painted like a dragon. We pick up hanging zongzi decorations for our house. Then at night, we watch the fireworks light up the sky.
Dragon Boat Festival is such a wonderful celebration of Chinese culture and traditions. I look forward to it every year. The excitement of the races, the delicious foods, the bright decorations, and the lively activities make it so joyful. I hope you can experience this amazing festival for yourself someday! Just be sure to save room for the zongzi - they're my absolute favorite part.

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of my favorite holidays! It's also called the Duanwu Festival. It happens on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. That's usually sometime in June.
The biggest part of the festival is dragon boat racing! Dragon boats are really long and narrow boats that kind of look like dragons. They can fit 20 paddlers, plus a drummer and steer person. The boats are painted bright colors like red, green, and yellow and have a dragon head at the front and tail at the back.
During the races, the paddlers have to paddle really fast and in sync to the beat of the drummer's drum. It's really cool to watch! The races happen on rivers and lakes. My favorite part is seeing all the spectators cheering loudly for their team. There's such an exciting energy in the air.
Another really fun tradition is eating zongzi, which are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. They can be sweet or savory and filled with different ingredients like red bean paste, egg yolk, pork, mushrooms, and more. My mom makes the best zongzi! I love helping her wrap them.
There are also a lot of other yummy Dragon Boat Festival foods like realgar wine, which is a special rice wine, and various desserts made from rice, beans, fruits, and nuts. My favorite is the sweet rice balls covered in sesame seeds.
We decorate our doors and windows with pictures of Qu Yuan, who was a famous poet and minister that the festival honors. He lived 2,300 years ago during the Warring States Period. The legend says he drowned himself in the Miluo River out of sadness that his advice wasn't followed. People raced boats and threw rice dumplings into the river so the fish wouldn't eat his body.
Kids love the Dragon Boat Festival because we get to wear new clothes and accessories with dragon patterns and colors like red, blue, and green. We hang up inflatable dragon decorations and draw pictures of Qu Yuan and dragon boats at school. Sometimes schools even organize mini dragon boat races for the students in a swimming pool!
Another fun tradition is hanging up calamus and wormwood plants because people used to think they could ward off evil influences and bring good luck. The plants smell really nice and herbal. We hang them on our doors and tie them to little kids' ankles.
At night, we light lanterns and set off firecrackers and fireworks. My dad is really good at lighting the big sparkly fireworks! Sometimes we write wishes on the lanterns before letting them float up into the night sky. It's so magical!
Overall, the Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most vibrant, action-packed and joy-filled holidays. I always feel so proud of my Chinese heritage when we celebrate this special festival together as a family and community. I can't wait until the next one!

Dragon Boat Festival: A Celebration of Tradition and Unity
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite holidays - the Dragon Boat Festival! It's a really cool celebration with lots of fun activities and delicious food.
The Dragon Boat Festival happens on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. It commemorates the life and death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet who lived a long time ago during the Warring States period in ancient China. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister who got exiled after some people told lies about him to the king. He was so sad that he drowned himself in the Miluo River.
When the people heard about Qu Yuan's death, they raced out in boats to try and find his body. They beat drums and threw zongzi, which are yummy sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, into the river so the fish wouldn't eat his body. Even though they couldn't find Qu Yuan, people continued holding boat races and eating zongzi every year to honor his memory.
The main events during the festival are the exciting dragon boat races and making zongzi! The dragon boats are really long and skinny, with a dragon head at the front and a tail at the back. They're so cool! The rowers have to work together perfectly to paddle in sync, while the drummer beats out a rhythm to keep them going. Watching the races is a blast, with all the brightly colored boats zipping across the water.
My favorite part though is definitely eating zongzi! There are so many different fillings you can have - sweet ones with red bean paste or savory ones with pork and mushrooms. My mom is an amazing zongzi chef and she lets my brother and me help wrap them up. It's kind of tricky getting the bamboo leaves folded just right, but eating the end result is worth all the effort.
In addition to the boat races and zongzi, there are other fun traditions during the Dragon Boat Festival too. People drink realgar wine, which is a special wine with cool patterns on the side of the cup from the realgar powder. We also hang up boxes of calligraphy scrolls, zongzi, and other charms over our door for good luck. My grandma taught me how to make the hanging decorations out of folded paper.
The Dragon Boat Festival celebrates patriotism, honor, and unity - all qualities demonstrated by Qu Yuan's loyalty to his country. It reminds me of the importance of working together as a community, just like the rowers in the dragon boats. I love how the whole holiday brings my family and friends together to eat, play games, and keep these ancient customs alive.
Even though the origins are pretty sad, the Dragon Boat Festival is a joyful time full of vibrant energy and delicious food that I look forward to every year. It connects me to my cultural
heritage in a really fun, hands-on way. I hope you all get a chance to experience and embrace the exciting traditions of this special festival!

Dragon Boat Festival Essay (2000 words)
Hi everyone! Today I'm going to talk about one of my favorite holidays - the Dragon Boat Festival! It's a really exciting time with lots of fun traditions.
First, let me tell you about the story behind this festival. A long, long time ago, there was a famous poet and minister named Qu Yuan. He was really smart and loyal to his country. But some bad people got jealous of him and lied to the king. The king believed the lies and banished Qu Yuan from the kingdom. This made Qu Yuan very sad. He went to a river and wrote lots of beautiful poems expressing his sadness and love for his country. Finally, he drowned himself in the river out of sadness.
When the local people heard what had happened, they raced out in boats to try and save Qu Yuan. They beat drums to scare away the evil spirits and threw zongzi (bamboo
leaf-wrapped sticky rice dumplings) into the river so the fish wouldn't eat Qu Yuan's body. Even though it was too late to save
him, people started holding boat races and eating zongzi every year to honor Qu Yuan's memory.
That's why during Dragon Boat Festival, we eat lots of delicious zongzi! My favorite fillings are sweet red bean paste, savory pork and mushrooms, or sweet and salty egg yolks. Watching the dragon boat races is also super exciting and fun. The boats are really colorful and have a carved dragon head at the front. The rowers have to paddle in sync to the beat of the drumming. It's amazing how fast the boats can go!
Another fun tradition is drinking realgar wine and hanging up plants like calamus and moxa for good luck. We also wear perfume pouches with herbs like mugwort and sweet flag to protect us from evil spirits and sickness. My grandma always makes sure I wear one during the festival. I used to think they smelled weird, but now I like the fresh herbal scent!
Overall, Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most exciting times of the year. We get to eat delicious food, watch awesome boat races, and celebrate the life of Qu Yuan - a truly heroic and patriotic poet. Dragon Boat Festival Essay
Hi everyone! Today I'm going to tell you all about the Dragon Boat Festival. It's one of my favorite Chinese holidays and it's coming up really soon.
The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. This year it falls on June 22nd. It commemorates the life and death of Qu Yuan, an famous poet who lived over 2,000 years ago during the Warring States period of ancient China.
Qu Yuan was a minister who loved his country and his people. But the king didn't listen to his advice, and Qu Yuan was exiled. He was so sad that he drowned himself in the Miluo River. When the people heard what happened, they raced out in boats to try and find his body. They beat drums and threw zongzi, which are these yummy rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, into the river so the fish wouldn't eat Qu Yuan's body.
Even though they couldn't save Qu Yuan, people commemorate him every year during the Dragon Boat Festival. We eat zongzi, watch dragon boat races, and perform some fun activities.
My favorite part is definitely eating zongzi! There are so many different fillings you can have - sweet ones with red bean paste or savory ones with pork and mushrooms. My mom makes the best zongzi. She lets me help wrap them up which is really fun but kind of tricky.
Dragon boat racing is another big part of the festival. You have these long narrow boats that kind of look like dragons, with a dragon head at the front and a tail at the back. The boats hold around 20 paddlers plus a drummer who beats out the rhythm for them to paddle to. It's so cool to watch all the teams racing across the river or lake. The boats go super fast!
At school, we always do dragon boat cap crafts and learn poems by Qu Yuan. We also practice drumming patterns on Little Red Drums. Last year, I got to be the "drummer" for my class's dragon boat! We made the boat out of cardboard and then had a big race across the playground against the other classes. It was awesome.
There are some other fun traditions too. People will hang up pictures of Zhong Kui, who was a mythical guardian figure who could drive away evil spirits and disease. On Dragon Boat Festival, kids will wear perfumed pouches and drink realgar wine which is supposed to help keep you healthy.
My favorite part besides the zongzi is getting to hang out with my whole family. We'll go watch the dragon boat races in the morning, then in the afternoon we'll walk around eating snacks and playing games at the festival booths that are set up in the park. At night we'll let off huangliang, which are these little fire crackers. It's just such a fun, festive atmosphere!
I love the Dragon Boat Festival because it combines so many great things - amazing food, exciting races, artistic traditions, and best of all, family time. It celebrates patriotism and reminds us to honor our history and culture. I can't wait until Dragon Boat Festival rolls around again this year. Eating zongzi, cheering on the dragon boats, and making more amazing memories with my family!。
