Ⅰ阅读理解A(2018·金华十校高三调研)If our kids don’t fall, they don’t learn to get up. I still remember the day in high school that my mom forgot to pick me up from school. I’m the oldest of four children, and no doubt she’d had a long day with the other kids and it’d slipped her mind. After waiting at school for an hour, I walked the three miles home, and when I got to my house, I shut our front door with anger, stormed into the kitchen and screamed in my mom’s face that she’d forgotten me.Later that night, my dad told me I no longer had a ride to school the next day. I figured my mom would still take me, but when the morning came, she refused. It was midterm, and as a straightA student ready to start college applications, being late wasn’t an option. In my mind, missing these tests would have been the end of my academic career. I begged my mom. I told her she was ruining my future and everything I’d worked for. But she held__her__ground,__and that day, I walked to school. And I missed my tests. My mom didn’t rescue me from failure. She let me suffer from it. She let me figure it out. She let me learn. Now, as a mom myself, I’ve realized that I want my kids to experience failure because failure is how we grow, learn and think outside of ourselves. It’s how we selfeducate to learn what’s right and respectable, and what’s not. It’s how we become responsible and enthusiastic.Falling down makes us better, because we learn how to get up.【解题导语】 本文作者通过亲身体会告诉我们:失败让我们变得更好,因为我们在失败中学会成长。

Right now, a little more than 7.3 billion people share the planet. By 2050, some scientists estimate the world's population may reach 9 billion. However, the changing climate will probably make feeding this far greater number a very frightening task. That is the conclusion reached by some scientist.Just three crops — wheat, rice and corn — provide more than two-thirds of the calories that people consume. Such crops, and a small number of other important crops, come from farming regions sometimes referred to as “breadbaskets”. However, these areas often occupy a relatively small portion (部分) of the globe. Worse still, the breadbaskets are easily affected by bad weather. Events such as widespread flooding or extended heat wave can kill crops. That's especially true if the bad weather occurs when a crop is young, fruiting or approaching harvest.Unfortunately, big crop failures in two or more breadbaskets could lead to what researchers call “food shock”. That means an overall shortage of food would occur. Extreme food shocks used to happen every century. Or to put it another way, that's only about once every four generations of humans. However, according to studies, as the climate warms, high and low temperatures become more extreme, and by 2050, food shocks could occur about once every 30 years. In other words, a person born in the middle of the current century might live through two or three extreme food shocks during their lifetime. So what can people do to help avoid food shock? Making agriculture efficient is one choice. But one of the most effective ways to fight against food shocks might be to cut down on food waste. “If we could cut food waste in half,” said Seth Cook, a British environmental scientist, “we could feed an extra billion people.”参考范文:It is more and more challenging to feed the growing global population. We go to the gym to “work out” without trying to become better at something specific. We wish that we were more creative, but never work on a particular project. When you commit to a task, however, then the next step is obvious. You want to take a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge at sunrise? Next step: find a good spot. You've found a good spot? Next step: wake up early and drive there. This is perhaps the most shocking thing: if box yourself in, then you'll begin to break out and achieve something greater than you ever imagined.语篇解读:本文为夹叙夹议文.作者去旧金山看日出时突然悟出人生真谛:任务要具体,目标要明确,才会有结果.1.What's the author's original purpose of the trip?A.To take pictures.B.To attend lessons.C.To visit friends. D.To enjoy sunrise.解析:选C细节理解题.由第二段中的“My primary goal was to meet with friends”可知,作者来旧金山的最初目的就是访友.2.What lesson did the author learn?A.A given task leads to achievement.B.Stick to your own decision.C.Get ready for challenges.D.Hard work pays off.解析:选A推理判断题.由第一段末尾可知作者这次旅行感触颇深,再结合倒数第一段中的“if box yourself in, then you'll begin to break out and achieve something greater than you ever imagined”可知,作者收获的感悟是任务要具体,目标要明确,才会有结果.3.What are you advised to do first when you want to get stronger physically?A.Make a detailed outline.B.Go to work out immediately.C.Discuss the ways with coaches.D.Choose a certain muscle group.解析:选D推理判断题.由第二段中的“I had vague (不明确的) ideas”,再结合第三段的内容,尤其是“without trying to become better at something specific”和“When you commit to a task, however, then the next step is obvious”可知,只有任务具体了,方向才能明确,四个选项中只有D项是一个具体的任务,且是首先应做的.4.What's the function of the last paragraph?A.To introduce a new topic.B.To draw a conclusion.C.To make a suggestion.D.To ask readers to reflect on something.解析:选B写作手法题.由最后一段的内容,尤其是“if box yourself in, then you'll begin to break out and achieve something greater than you ever imagined”可知,最后一段点明了文章的主题,对上文内容做出了总结.故选B.BMy mother was the one who whipped (抽打) me.At least she did whenever she wasn't ashamed to let the neighbors think she was killing me.If she even acted as though she was about to raise her hand to me, I would open my mouth and let the world know about it.If anybody was passing by out on the road, she would either change her mind or just give me a few licks.Think about it now.I feel definitely that just as my father favored me for being lighter than the other children, my mother gave me more hell for the same reason. She was very light herself, but she favored the ones who were darker.Wilfred, I knew, was particularly her angel.I remember that she would tell me to go out of the house.“Let the sun shine on you so you can get some color.”I learned early that crying out in protest could accomplish things. My older brothers and sister would sometimes come in from school and ask for a buttered biscuit or something. My mother, impatiently, would tell them no.But I would cry out and make a fuss until I got what I wanted.I remember well how my mother asked me why I couldn't be a nice boy like Wilfred. But I would think to myself that Wilfred, for being so nice and quiet, often stayed hungry. So early in life, I hadlearned that if you wanted something, you had better make some noise.语篇解读:本文通过作者描述自己如何处理与母亲之间的生活小事,来告诉大家要想获得自己想要的东西,就要大声地表达出来.5.What would the writer's mother do if someone was passing by out on the road?A.She would stop killing me.B.She would whip me even harder.C.She would shout at me very loudly.D.She would give me only a few beatings.解析:选D细节理解题.根据第一段最后两句可知,如果妈妈打我,我就大声喊让别人知道,路过的人看到了,妈妈就会有所收敛.故选D.其他选项不符合题意.6.What does the underlin ed word “hell” mean?A.Love. B.Food.C.Suffering. D.Space. 7.What did the writer do if he wanted to get what he needed?A.He remained quiet.B.He asked for it loudly.C.He waited patiently.D.He asked his father for help.解析:选B细节理解题.根据最后一段最后一句中的“I had learned that if you wanted something, you had better make some noise”可知,答案为B,其他选项不符合题意.CWe live in a society where many people tend to have “black and white thinking” and extreme thinking.Every day a new headline announces a certain food is bad and ruining our health and praises another food of its amazing benefits. Each year, new studies in nutrition science come out, many of which are against earlier findings.Additionally, we are sold the lie that if we eat the “correct foods” and follow a set of rules, we will gain health and happiness. We've all heard someone saying, “I ate a brownie (巧克力蛋糕) and I am so bad today.”Someone feels that what he eats determines whether he is a “good” or “bad” person. For instance, someone might also say, “I am a good parent if I feed my child this.” However, food isn't good or bad. What you choose to eat does not determine your value or worth as a human being. The only reason to feel guilty for eating a brownie is that you stole it from the store.Besides, the idea that you shouldn't eat late in the evening is a nutrition myth. Our metabolism(新陈代谢) keeps running 24 hours a day.Rules (like telling yourself when to stop eating) create fear and a sense that you cannot trust with food.Consistently fueling your body every few hours especially when you are hungry will allow you to feel your best.So when you feel hungry before heading to bed, eat some cheese and crackers. In my opinion, mental health is an important part of one's overall health.I think we can all agree that being terrified to eat some food is not mentally healthy.Rather than focusing on food rules, aim for balance, variety and flexibility.语篇解读:本文主要讨论人们对于饮食的一些误解,并阐述了作者自己的看法.8.We can judge whether a person is “good” or “bad” by ________.A.the source of the foodB.the time when they eat their foodC.the person's preference for foodD.the things they put in their food解析:选A推理判断题.根据第二段最后一句“The only reason to feel guilty for eating a brownie is that you stole it from the store”可推知,判断一个人的好与坏主要看食物的来源,而非食物本身,故选A.9.Which of the following can be inferred from the text?A.It's wrong for people to eat anything late in the evening.B.It's important to keep a balanced diet for people's health.C.Fear of some food is an important reflection of mental health.D.Parents who give children bad food are bad parents.解析:选B推理判断题.根据最后一段最后一句“Rather than focusing on food rules, aim for balance, variety and flexibility.”和本段的整体内容可推知,平衡饮食对健康很重要.10.What seems to be the author's attitude toward the present thoughts about food?A.Disapproving. B.Favorable.C.Reserved. D.Objective.解析:选A观点态度题.根据第一段最后一句“Additionally, we are sold the lie that if we eat the ‘correct foods’ and follow a set of rules, we will gain health and happiness.”和第一段的整体内容可推知,作者对目前有关饮食的看法是不赞同的,故选A.。

Recycling plastics and aluminum, for instance, uses only 5% to 10% as much energy as producing new plastic or smelting(提炼) aluminum.Long before most of us even noticed what we now call “the environment,” Buckminster Fuller said, “Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be left around because we’ve been ignorant of their value.” To take one example, let’s compare the throwaway economy with a recycling economy as we feed a cat for life.Say your cat weight 5kg and eats one can of food each day. Each empty can of its food weighs 40g. In a throwaway economy, you would throw away 5,475 cans over the cat’s 15year lifetime. That’s 219kg of steel—more than a fifth of a ton and more than40 times the cat’s weight. In a recycling economy, we would make one set of 100 cans to start with, then replace them over and over again with recycled cans. Since almost 3% of the metal is lost during reprocessing, we’d have to make an extra 10 cans each year. But in all, only 150 cans will be used up over the cat’s lifetime —and we’ll still have 100 left over for the next cat.Instead of using up 219kg of steel, we’ve used only 6kg. And because the process of recycling steel is less polluting than making new steel, we’ve also achieved the following significant savings: in energy use—47% to 74%; in air pollution—85%; in water pollution—35%; in water use—40%.【解题导语】本文首段点明主旨:回收利用可大大节约资源,并引用伟大建筑师富勒的话和养猫喂食的例子肯定循环经济的价值所在.。

阅读提速练Ⅰ阅读理解A(2018·江西赣中南五校联考)In its early history,Chicago had floods frequently, especially in the spring, making the streets so muddy that people, horses and carts got stuck. An old joke that was popular at the time went like this:A man is stuck up to his waist in a muddy Chicago street.Asked if he needs help,he replies,“No,thanks.I’ve got a good horse under me.”The city planner decided to build an underground drainage(排水) system, but there simply wasn’t enough difference between the height of the ground level and the water level. The only two options were to lower the Chicago River or raise the city.An engineer named Ellis Chesbrough convinced the city that it had no choice but to build the pipes a bove ground and then cover them with dirt. This raised the level of the city’s streets by as much as 12 feet. This of course created a new problem:dirt practically buried the first floors of every building in Chicago.Building owners were faced with a choice:either change the first floors of their buildings into basements, and the second stories into mainfloors,or hoist(吊起) the entire buildings to meet the new street level.Small woodframe buildings could be lifted fairly easily. But what about large, heavy structures like the Tremont Hotel, which was a sixstory brick building? That’s where George Pullman came in.He had developed some housemoving skills successfully. To lift a big structure like the Tremont Hotel,Pullman would place thousands of jackscrews(螺旋千斤顶) beneath the building’s foundation. One man was assigned to operate each section of roughly 10 jackscrews. At Pullman’s sign each man turned his jackscrews by the same amount at the same time, thereby raising the building slowly and evenly.Astonishingly, the Tremont Hotel stayed open during the entire operation, and many of its guests didn’t even notice anything was happening. Some people like to say that every problem has a solution. But in Chicago’s early history, every engineering solution seemed to create a new problem. Now that Chicago’s waste water was draining efficiently into the Chicago River, the city’s next step was to clean the polluted river.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了芝加哥为了应对洪水泛滥的问题而实行了一些解决方案的故事。

2019年人教高考英语一轮练习题:选修6U5含答案

2019年人教高考英语一轮练习题:选修6U5含答案一、阅读理解。

Our success, satisfaction and general happiness in life is not dependent on what happens to us but how we deal with it.You will probably know from personal experience what a difference your attitude can make when, for example, you’re returning faulty goods or making a complaint. An open, polite and friendly approach, expecting a satisfactory result, normally results in one as people tend to respond with a similar attitude. If,however, you present an argument with an angry, accusing tone, expecting trouble, there is little doubt that this is what you’ll get! Some people see the world through a filter of optimism and some through a filter of pessimism(悲观) which largely comes down to having a positive or negative(消极的) attitude. Peop le who are suffering from a negative attitude primarily think that something can’t be done;they talk about problems, see all the difficulties, find fault with and criticize other people and focus on all the thin gs they would like but haven’t got.On the cont rary, people blessed with a positive attitude think that anything is possible. They look for ways to solve the problems, they see the good in everybody, and they are grateful for all the good things in their lives.Whether suffering from or blessed with your attitude, this is not something that is put on us from the outside. We are very much responsible for our own attitude. We all start out with a “clean”board but this can get muddied by our experiences in life.As children we are made fun of and even get bullied(欺侮) and rejected, start to experience doubt and lose our selfconfidence. If this continues into adulthood,it can result in a bad attitude in later life.【解题导语】本文展现了积极的人生态度的重要性。

He is the lead writer of a research paper describing the effects of cocoa flavones on brain activity. His study involved 37 volunteers aged between 50 and 69. Researchers gave them a high-level flavones drink made fromcocoa beans or a low-level flavones drink. For a period of three months, some subjects got 900 milligrams of flavones a day. The others got 10 milligrams of flavones each day. Brain imaging and memory tests were given to each study subject before and after the study. Dr. Small says that the subjects who had the high-level flavones drink showed much improvement on memory tests. The researchers warn that more work is needed to be done because this study was performed only on a small group. Dr. Joann Manson is the lead researcher of a four-year study involving 18,000 adults. This study will use flavones capsules (胶囊). The study subjects will be divided into two groups and will take two pills per day. The capsules used will all look the same. But one group’s capsules will contain flavones, while the other group will take capsules made of an inactive substance, or placebo.Dr. Manson says it’s not necessary for people to start eating more chocolate, because a person would have to eat a huge amount of chocolate to get the same level of flavones given to the test subjects. He adds many manufacturers have planned to remove the flavones from their chocolate products. Similarly, Dr. Manson says a cocoa-based flavones extract(提取) may be developed in the future. But he says that more studies are needed to see how much flavones is good for our health.【解题导语】这是一篇科普文章,文章主要描述了每天吃一块巧克力是否真的可以预防与年龄有关的记忆衰退,答案是否定的,文章介绍了两位研究者分组实验的研究成果,巧克力中主要含有黄烷醇类物质,它对人体是有益的,但是多少量对人体健康有益还需要再研究。

阅读限时练Ⅰ阅读理解A(2018·合肥高三质检)Many years ago, when we were a young couple with two small children, aged 2 and 4, we were practically impecunious. My inlaws lived from hand to mouth, so we didn’t expect any help from them. My parents lived a great distance away, and I was too ashamed to let them know about our situation. My husband was trying to earn a living with an old pick-up truck, carrying groceries for local shopkeepers, but it was constantly breaking down. It took almost all the money we had to have it fixed. The truck was also the only means of transportation for us.We lived in the countryside, and we always used the back door because the driveway led to it. One winter evening, I stepped outside to take a bag of trash to the barrel and almost tripped over something. It was nearly dark, and I had to bend down to see what it was. I could hardly believe my eyes. There sat a large basket loaded with food.It was heavy, so I called my husband to carry it into the house. Once inside, we discovered two loaves of bread, some butter, several cans of vegetables, a can of orange sauce, and a large turkey. There was so much that I couldn’t remember it all, but it was everything we needed to fix a wonderful dinner—everything except potatoes.A little while later I remembered that I hadn’t taken the trash to the barrel. By now it was dark, so I had to turn on the yard light—and that’s when I spotted a small bag of potatoes sitting on the porch. That dinner was the best I could remember. We weren’t able to thank our donators, though, because we never found out who had been so generous in helping a struggling young family. Whoever it was, we are forever grateful.【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文。

The only two options were to lower the Chicago River or raise the city.An engineer named Ellis Chesbrough convinced the city that it had no choice but to build the pipes above ground and then cover them with dirt.

阅读提速练Ⅰ阅读理解A(2017·浙江卷10月)There are energy savings to be made from all recyclable materials, sometimes huge savings. Recycling plastics and aluminum, for instance, uses only 5% to 10% as much energy as producing new plastic or smelting(提炼) aluminum.Long before most of us even noticed what we now call “the environment,”Buckminster Fuller said, “Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be left around because we’ve been ignorant of their value.”To take one example, let’s compare the throwaway economy with a recycling economy as we feed a cat for life.Say your cat weight 5kg and eats one can of food each day. Each empty can of its food weighs 40g. In a throwaway economy, you would throw away 5,475 cans over the cat’s 15year lifetime. That’s 219kg of steel—more than a fifth of a ton and more than 40 times the cat’s weight. In a recycling economy, we would make one set of 100 cans to start with, then replace them over and over again with recycled cans. Since almost 3% of the metal is lost during reprocessing, we’d have to make an extra 10 cans each year. But in all, only 150 cans will be used up over the cat’s lifetime—and we’ll still have 100 left over for the next cat.Instead of using up 219kg of steel, we’ve used only 6kg. And because the process of recycling steel is less polluting than making new steel, we’ve also achieved the following significant savings: in energy use—47% to 74%; in air pollution—85%; in water pollution—35%; in water use—40%.【解题导语】本文首段点明主旨:回收利用可大大节约资源,并引用伟大建筑师富勒的话和养猫喂食的例子肯定循环经济的价值所在。

1.What does Buckminster Fuller say about pollution?A.It is becoming more serious.B.It destroys the environment.C.It benefits the economy.D.It is the resources yet to be used.D解析:细节理解题。

根据第二段的Buckminster Fuller的话:“Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be left around because we’ve been ignorant of their value.”可知,他认为污染只不过是我们没有收获的资源。

由于我们对它们的价值一无所知,因此让它们白白浪费。

故选D。

2.How many cans will be used up in a cat’s 15year lifetime in a recycling economy?A.50.B.100.C.150. D.250.C解析:细节理解题。

根据第四段的“But in all, only 150 cans will be used up over the cat’s lifetime”可以推断出,循环经济下,要养活一只存活15年的猫需要用掉150个罐。

故选C。

3.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To promote the idea of recycling.B.To introduce an environmentalist.C.To discuss the causes of pollution.D.To defend the throwaway economy.A解析:写作目的题。

文章通过养猫喂食的例子,用数字对比了循环经济和一次性经济消耗资源的不同结果,目的是推广回收利用的理念。

故选A。
