Ⅱ.阅读理解
My father was poor in expressing his feelings. I knew that my dad loved me, but showed me love in other ways. There was one particular time in my life when this became real to me.
I always believed that my parents had a good marriage, but gradually the strain (惊慌)on my mom and dad's relationship was quite evident. However, I was not prepared
for the day when Dad had decided to leave. All that I could think of was that I was going to become a product of a divorced family. I kept telling myself that it wasn't going to happen. The night before he left, I stayed up in my room for a long time.
I prayed and I cried and I wrote a long letter to my dad. I told him how much I loved him and that I would always and forever be his Krissie. As I folded my note, I stuck in a picture of me with a saying I had always heard, “Anyone_can_be_a_father,_but_it_takes_someone_special_to_be_a_daddy.”Early the next morning, as my dad left our house, I slipped my letter into one of his bags.
Two weeks later, my mother told me that they decided that there were things that both of them could and would change and that their marria ge was worth saving. “Well, Dad said that when he read your letter, it made him cry. It meant a lot to him and I have hardly ever seen your dad cry. After he read your letter, he called to ask if he could come over to talk. Whatever you said really made a difference to your dad.”
A few days later my dad was back. We never talked about the letter. I guessed that it became a secret between us.
本文主要讲解并描述了在父母的婚姻遇到紧急状况时,作者写了一封信给父亲,其真情流露感动了父亲,最终挽救了他们的婚姻。

答案:C

2.How did the author feel when her father decided to leave?
A.Excited. B.Annoyed.
C.Doubtful. D.Upset.
答案:D
解析:推理推断题。

依据其次段中的“I kept telling myself that it wasn't going to happen.”和“I prayed and I cried”可推断,爸爸的离开让作者倍感难过,因此选D 项。

Ⅲ.概要写作
阅读下面短文,依据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Babies don't learn to talk just from hearing sounds. New research suggests that they also learn from watching lips.Florida scientists discovered that at around the age of 6 months, babies begin studying mouths when people talk to them.“In order to imitate you, babies have to figure out how to shape their lips to make that particular sound they're hearing,”explains David Lewkowicz of Florida Atlantic University, who led the study published on Monday.
Scientists have long known that babies also look to speakers' faces for important social cues (示意) about what they are hearing. Just like adults, they're drawn to the eyes, which express important messages like the emotion connected to words. David Lewkowicz went a step further, wondering whether babies look to the lips for cues as well, like how adults lipread what someone's saying at a noisy party. So he and his student Amy HansenTift tested nearly 180 babies, dividing them into different groups according to their ages (4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 months). They showed videos of a woman speaking in English or Spanish to babies of English speakers. They found a shift in attention: When the speaker used English, the 4montholds looked mostly at her eyes; the 6montholds spent equal amount of ti me looking at the eyes and the mouth. The 8 and 10montholds studied mostly the mouth; at 12 months, attention started shifting back toward the speaker's eyes.
“It's a pretty interesting finding,” says University of Iowa psychology professor Bob McMurray, who also studies speech development. The research offers more evidence that quality facetime with the baby is very important for speech development—more than, say, playing the latest baby DVD.
Studying how babies learn to speak isn't a curiosity. Scientists want to know how to encourage that process, especially if it doesn't seem to be happening on time. And, it helps them understand how the brain wires itself early in life for learning
all kinds of things.
