Overview:TheTheoreticalfundamentals of materials will be introduced.And thecore concept of this course is the relation between structure and performance of materials.Studentsshould learn the basic knowledge of how to properly select and use materials, that is: material selection and technical solution foundation (principle, criteria, method etc.);performanceandapplicationfeatures of regular materials; basic approaches of controlling the material property; and the ability to properly select machine parts and draft manufacturing procedure of them according to the working conditions and performance requirements of the machine parts.

• get to know non-metal mechanical engineering materials

Topics include: Introduction: introduction of machine design; the strength, friction, abrasion, and lubrication of machine parts;Joint: screw joint and screw drive; key; cotter joint; riveting, welding, cementing, and interference joint; Mechanical drive: belt drive, chain drive, gear drive, and worm drivel; Shafting parts: sliding bearing, antifriction bearing; coupler and clutch, axle; Other parts: spring, engine base and box; reducer and transmission; Course experiments and course curriculum design.
