Here the teacher should emphasize this word, or repeat this several times until the students really know what hobby mean.
T: Got it?
S: Yes!
T: So, hobby is…
S: Things we enjoy doing in our spare time.
T: You got it! What hobbies do you have, boys and girls?
S: My hobby is fishing.
S: Watching TV is my bobby.
S: My hobby is making the model planes.

T: Great! Your life must be very colorful and interesting. Next, look at the pictures. Guess: what Danny’s hobby is.

Step II Listening
Get the students to listen to the tape and get some basic information of this conversation.
T: Listen to the tape and answer the questions on the slide.

S1: 60 yuan, sir. I am afraid it is much too expensive. Will you show me another type?

Step IV Project
Get students to talk about their hobbies in groups of four according to Project. And then ask some groups to act their dialogues out.
T: Who can tell me what is a hobby?
S: A hobby is something we enjoy doing. It is not a job or a school subject. It is not something we need to do. It’s just something we like to do. It is fun and interesting.
T: Exactly! Next, work in groups and talk about your hobbies.

that went into the space.

Show students the following pictures of rockets to help them tell their
homework.
S: I will tell you How a rocket flies.
If you want to know, get a balloon and then blow it up until it is quite big. Do not tie up the neck of the balloon. Let it go! The balloon will fly off through the air very quickly. The air inside the balloon tries to get out. It rushes out through the neck of the balloon and this pushes the balloon goes through the air. It does not need wings like an airplane. This is how a rocket works.
S: It is not made of rubber like a balloon, of course. It is made of metal. The metal must not be heavy but it must be very strong. There is gas inside the rocket which is made very hot. When it rushes out of the end of the rocket, the rocket is pushed up into the air.
T: Wonderful! You know much about the rockets. So, I think your hobby must be model rockets, right?
S: Yes!
T: Great! I hope someday you can be spacemen like Yang Liwei! And also, I think some other students must have the same bobby, so you can talk about model rockets after class, OK?

Believe it or not, when the rocket landed on the tree, a UFO just flew above the top of tree. An alien in it felt very surprised. He had never seen it before. So he opened the window and took the rocket away to his own planet to make a research about it. Don’t you think it is very interesting?

S: Look at these beautiful stamps. I have sorted them. Some of them are about historical events. Some are about animals and plants. Some are about mountains, seas, rivers and lakes. Some are about music and dancing. Some are about children, peace and war. Some are about education, transportation and religion. In a word, collecting stamps helps me learn a lot of knowledge. Now I will show some of them to you on the slide. I am sure you will enjoy them. They are some Canadian stamps.
T: You are great! After class, you can enjoy his stamps. If you like them very much, you can develop this hobby: collecting stamps. Who else wants to have a try?
S: I like collecting tickets, such as West Lake and Mountain Tai. Look I have shown them on the projector. I think it is very interesting and useful to collect the tickets. They show the nice pictures of the places. Brief introductions of the places are on the back of the tickets. Now I have more than 60 tickets. If you like, you can enjoy after class.
T: Wonderful! Collecting the tickets helps you know more about the famous places in China. I have some tickets, such as the Great Wall, the Summer
Palace and The World Park. I decide to give them to you for your collection.
