22.(8分)Solar energy systems & power plants do not produce air pollution, water pollution, or greenhouse gases. Using solar energy can have a positive, indirect effect on the environment, when solar energy replaces or reduces the use of other energy sources that have larger effects on the environment.
However, some poisonous materials and chemicals are used to make the photovoltaic ( 光电池的) cells that convert sunlight into electricity. Some solar thermal (保热的) systems use potentially hazardous liquids to transfer heat. Leaks of these materials could be harmful to the environment. U. S. environmental laws regulate the use and settlement of these types of materials.
As with any type of power plant, large solar power plants can affect the environment near their locations. The placement of the power plant may have long-term effects on the habitats of native plants and animals. Some solar power plants may require water for cleaning solar collectors and concentrators or for cooling turbine generators. Using large volumes of ground water or surface water in some dry locations may affect the ecosystems that depend on these water resources. In addition, the beam of concentrated sunlight a solar power tower creates can kill birds and insects that fly into the beam.
The amount of solar energy that the earth receives each day is many times greater than the total amount of all energy that people consume each day. However, on the surface of the earth, solar energy is a variable and irregular energy source. The amount of sunlight and the intensity of sunlight varies by time of day and location. Weather and climate conditions affect the availability of sunlight daily and on a seasonal basis. The type and size of a solar energy collection and conversion system determines how much of the available solar energy we can convert into useful energy.
1、Which of the following best explains "hazardous" underlined in paragraph 2?
A.inexpensive B.dangerous
C.ineffective D.abnormal
2、What influence can large solar power plants have on the locations?
A.Polluting the ground water.
B.Protecting the habitats of plants and animals.
C.Damaging the local natural balance.
D.Attracting birds and insects to the area.
3、What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A.Different areas receive different amount of solar energy.
B.How to convert solar energy into useful energy.
C.The relationship between solar energy collection and the sunlight.
D.Some factors that influence the amount of solar energy collection.
23.(8分) A day in the life of a sun bear is what you might expect from the name: sunny. In its natural habitat, the sun bear spends over 80 percent of its active waking time in daylight.
But when disturbed by human activity, that changes dramatically. In areas where people are pushing into the sun bear’s habitat, the animals are spending 90 percent of their waking time after dark. Effectively, the threat of human presence is making the sun bear change into “the moon bear”.
Led by scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, the study found that human activity is driving scores of mammals to shift their activity from the daytime into the dark hours of the night. As many animals have already been forced out of their local habitats, others are attempting to avoid interaction with humans by separating themselves in time rather than in space.
For the work, the researchers examined the behaviors of 64 mammal species, including deer, tigers, boars, and, of course, sun bears. They observed increased nocturnal (夜间的) behavior in a large majority of them, with species that are naturally active during the day tending to shift their activity to after dark, and those that are naturally nocturnal becoming more so. The mammals affected ranged across body size, habitat type, region of the world, and diet.
Human activity of all sorts affect animals, lives, including activities like hunting, agriculture and land development, harvesting local natural resources, even hiking or walking through wild areas. Sport hunting in the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe drove antelopes to spend more of their active waking hours at night, restricting their access to water. Similarly, hikers in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California made coyotes (郊狼) more nocturnal, forcing them to find new preys (猎物) among traditionally nocturnal animals.
The researchers warn that profound shifts in the natural behavior patterns of so many species disturb dynamics that have evolved over generations, leading to a series of unknown effects on the entire ecosystems.
1、What did the study find?
A.More animals separate themselves in space.
B.Human activity changes animals’ way of life.
C.Many animals were pushed out of their local habitats.
D.The sun bear spends over 80% waking time in daylight.
2、What does the underlined word “that” refer to?
A.The sun bear. B.The waking time.
C.Human activity. D.The natural habitat.
3、What can we infer from paragraph 5?
A.Antelopes have easier access to water.
B.Coyotes have to prey on new types for survival.
C.Human activity shortens animals’ sleeping time.
D.Animals have managed to escape interaction with humans.
4、What does the author want to tell us in the text?
A.Human threat makes the sun bear nocturnal.
B.Animals are badly hurt by human presence.
C.Animals become more adaptable thanks to human.
D.Ecosystems may be reshaped due to human activity.
24.(8分)The online takeaway industry is growing in China along with the rapid development of the Internet economy. But environmental activists complain that the huge volume of plastic utensils (用具), wrapping and containers presents a great challenge to the environment, and that the heavy use of throwaway wooden chopsticks is reducing natural resources.
On September 1, the Beijing No.4 Intermediate People’s Court accepted a lawsuit filed by the Chongqing Green Volunteer League, an environmental non-government organization (NGO), against the country’s three largest food delivery platforms—Baidu Waimai, Ele.me and Meituan. The NGO stated that the companies failed to provide customers with the choice to not receive throwaway plastic utensils along with their food deliveries. Meanwhile, these utensils have created large amounts of rubbish and caused serious ecological damage.
In response, both Meituan and Ele.me, which acquired Baidu Waimai in August, have promised to take measures to reduce plastic waste. Meituan announced that it would appoint a chief environmental officer to oversee environmental issues from plastic waste and upgrade its smartphone app to provide consumers with the option of ordering food without single-use chopsticks, spoons or napkins. Ele.me followed by offering a similar choice and putting forward a plan to introduce suppliers of degradable (可降解的) plastic utensils to restaurants in the long term.
Is there a possible way out? Combined efforts by delivery platforms, consumers, restaurants and government
departments are required to address plastic waste pollution.
For platforms, promoting environmental protection and introducing this idea to consumers are a meaningful move. Moreover, in the future, they should also make strict rules on the use of plastic utensils. For example, no more than one plastic bag should be used to wrap soup dishes, and all plastic products should be degradable. It is a long and difficult task for them, and the recent reactions from Ele.me and Meituan are just beginnings.
Considering most takeout food packaging is thrown into garbage bins and then taken away along with other household garbage, sorting of waste also becomes more important. Government departments could play a major role in this, and by recycling some materials, waste pollution could be reduced and resources saved. Furthermore, there have been growing calls that the government should also invest more in developing degradable plastic products or environmentally friendly alternatives.
Though consumers enjoy the convenience yet also suffer exposure to the pollution, many of them have paid little attention to the plastic waste problem. Environmental groups suggest that consumers change their habits a little by using their own utensils and dishes and refusing unnecessary plastic containers.
1、The Chongqing Green Volunteer League accused the three food delivery platforms of ________.
A.causing damage to people’s health
B.violating environmental standards
C.using many wooden chopsticks
D.offering no utensil option
2、The author suggests food delivery platforms ________.
A.raise people’s awareness B.research possible alternatives
C.upgrade their application design D.hire a chief environmental officer
3、Who probably plays a more important role in promoting the categorization of rubbish?
A.Government departments. B.Food delivery platforms.
C.Environmental groups. D.Fast food restaurants.
4、The passage is mainly concerned with ________.
A.why environmental problems arise
B.who food delivery platforms affect most
C.how plastic utensil pollution can be solved
D.what efforts environmental groups have made
25.(10分)Humans make mistakes. Even surgeons with years of experience are not infallible. But what if these doctors could pool their knowledge and experience together and create a surgical standard of care, to be carried out by
machines?
That's the idea behind surgical robots, which may soon perform most surgeries, from sewing up tiny wounds to performing heart procedures. Many of these operations are, in fact, already completed with the assistance of robots. But a recent test suggests that robots in the operating room may soon go a step further, performing on soft tissue completely on their own, from start to finish.
The Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot(STAR), successfully completed surgeries on pigs. "We're the first group to develop autonomous robotic surgery with soft-tissue surgery, and when compared to standard operation, it's better, "says Peter Kim, professor of surgery. "The idea is not to replace surgeons;it will make the surgeons better and make the procedures safer. "
A recent Mayo Clinic study found that major surgical errors-including operating on the wrong site or side of the body, or even leaving tools or objects inside the patient-occur every one out of 22, 000 procedures. That's rare, but robots like STAR would aim to lower the number even further.
In the da Vinci surgical system, surgeons place their arms inside instruments and use their hands to control the movement of robotic tools on the operating table from afar. The robot's every major move is controlled by surgeons, and thus its results may vary based on the surgeon's training or experience.
STAR, on the other hand, is entirely autonomous. It's not only able to work on its own and perform surgeries with a more flexible "hand", but it's able to react to the unexpected incidents. Cutting into hard tissue like bones is one thing, but operating on moving soft tissue is far more complex. STAR reacts to a changing environment, similar to how
self-driving cars are programmed to not only drive on the highway, but also react to another driver making a mistake and getting in your way.
1、The underlined word "infallible" in Paragraph 1probably means ______ .
A.quite smart B.really creative
C.rather responsible D.always right
2、We can learn from the passage that STAR ______ .
A.can perform the operation on its own
B.has been widely used in the operating room
C.can make surgeries much faster
D.will take the place of surgeons
3、In the da Vinci surgical system, ______ .
A.robots are trained from afar B.robots always make mistakes
C.surgery results depend on surgeons D.surgeons have trouble controlling robots
4、In the last paragraph, the author mentions self-driving cars in order to show ______ .
A.how smart an autonomous robot can be
B.how difficult self-driving on the highway is
C.how bad getting in another driver's way might be
D.how dangerous operating on people is.

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning, I’m Li Hua from Fujian, China. It’s my great honor to be here to say som ething about the global water shortage and ways of dealing with it.
As we know, the global water shortage is becoming increasingly severe mainly due to global warming, environment pollution and the ever-increasing population. Therefore, it’s high time we did something about it.
Firstly, an effective way, I think, is to reserve water in a scientific way for future use. Secondly, new methods need to be developed to use the existing water resources, for example, turning sea water into fresh water. Thirdly, we must stop water pollution by law. Last but least, it’s everyone’s responsibility to make good use of water, such as recycling and saving water in our daily life.
In conclusion, people around the world should be aware of the real situation of water shortage, protect the present
water resources and explore potential ones scientifically. That’s all. Thank you.。
