第一部分必修一Unit 4Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2015·洛阳统考)导学号 01830153 One winter, my cousin and I were playing toy blocks in the yard. My mom was out for shopping to get groceries and my dad was asleep upstairs in his room. Suddenly, it started to snow. First it was just a little. But then it started to pour heavily. Then, we put the finishing touches to our blocks and headed back inside. Right when I opened the sliding glass door, my cousin fell down on the slippery wooden stairs. I let go of the door, my worst mistake, you see. The door locks automatically but I had put a rock, right next to the door so it wouldn't close. But while I was running to my cousin's aid I'd accidentally kicked the rock. Now, my cousin and I were locked outside. And unfortunately it started to get really windy. It was really freezing with the snow. First we started to call my dad, but he was sleeping soundly. I mean, slept through a tornado soundly. It was of no use. Then I tried to climb over the fence but it didn't work because the fence was iced by snow and wind, and the fence is six feet high. So, I climbed up to my tree house and brainstormed some ideas on ways to get in. At one point, I was seriously considering jumping out of the tree house and using the trampoline(蹦床) to jump over the fence. So, we got to work. First, I took out the trampoline. Then I started to jump. First try—I almost cracked my head. Second try—this time I convinced my cousin to do it but at the last second, he chickened_out. Third try—I jumped and missed but at the last second, my hand caught the fence, and with a lot of pushing I finally climbed over the fence and luckily, I fell on a big snowdrift. Then I got inside and unlocked the door for my cousin to get in. Finally, my mom came back. Then we shared this story with my mom and dad.文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,讲述的是作者与表弟在后院玩耍时突遇风雪天气,因意外他们被锁在门外的经历.1.When the author wanted to jump in, the main problem was that ________.A.the fence was icyB.the fence was slippery and highC.the trampoline couldn't bear the weightD.the trampoline was too small答案:B细节理解题.根据第四段中的“Then I tried to climb over the fence but it didn't work because the fence was iced by snow and wind, and the fence is six feet high”可知,作者之所以跳不过去是因为篱笆又高又滑,即B项正确.2.The attitude of the author's cousin towards jumping on the trampoline seems ________.A.passive B.positiveC.indifferent D.objective答案:A推理判断题.根据倒数第二段中的“this time I convinced my cousin to do it but at the last second, he chickened out”可知作者的表弟对作者的提议持消极态度,即A项正确.3.The words “chickened out” (Paragraph 5) most probably mean “________”.A.fell down B.cried outC.jumped up D.backed out答案:D词义猜测题.根据倒数第二段中的“this time I convinced my cousin to do it but at the last second, he chickened out”中的convinced和but可知,作者说服了表弟,但在最后一秒钟表弟又打退堂鼓了,即D项正确.4.Which would be the best title of the text?A.Climbing over the Fence in the SnowB.An adventure in the YardC.Friendship Produces PleasureD.We Are Independent答案:B标题归纳题.文章讲述的是作者与表弟在后院玩积木时突遇风雪天气,因意外他们被锁在门外时所采取的冒险行动,因此B项正确.B(2015·北京)导学号 01830154The Boy Made It!One Sunday, Nicholas, a teenager, went skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. In the early afternoon, when he was planning to go home, a fierce snowstorm swept into the area.Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path. Before he knew it, Nicholas was lost, all alone! 高考英语一轮总复习必修第一册Unit4NaturalDisasters提能训练(含答案及范文)

高考英语一轮总复习必修第一册提能训练:Unit 4 Natural DisastersⅠ.阅读理解A(2024·浙江1月高考题) On September 7, 1991, the costliest hailstorm (雹暴) in Canadian history hit Calgary's southern suburbs. As a result, since 1996 a group of insurance companies have spent about $2 million per year on the Alberta Hail Suppression Project. Airplanes seed threatening storm cells with a chemical to make small ice crystals fall as rain before they can grow into dangerous hailstones. But farmers in east-central Alberta—downwind of the hail project flights—worry that precious moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by the cloud seeding.Norman Stienwand, who farms in that area, has been addressing public meetings on this issue for years. “Basically, the provincial government is letti ng the insurance companies protect the Calgary-Edmonton urban area from hail,” Mr. Stienwand says, “but they're increasing drought risk as far east as Saskatchewan.”The Alberta hail project is managed by Terry Krauss, a cloud physicist who works for Weath er Modification Inc. of Fargo, North Dakota. “We affect only a very small percentage of the total moisture in the air, so we cannot be causing drought,” Dr. Krauss says. “In fact, we may be helping increase the moisture downwind by creating wetter ground.”One doubter about the safety of cloud seeding is Chuck Doswell, a research scientist who just retired from the University of Oklahoma. “In 1999, I personally saw significant tornadoes (龙卷风) form from a seeded storm cell in Kansas,” Dr. Doswell says. “Doe s cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce moisture downwind? No one really knows, of course, but the seeding goes on.”Given the degree of doubt, Mr. Stienwand suggests, “it would be wise to stop cloud seeding.” In practice, doubt has had the opposite effect. Due to the lack of scientific proof concerning their impacts, no one has succeeded in winning a lawsuit against cloud-seeding companies. Hence, private climate engineering can proceed in relative legal safety.语篇导读:本文是一篇说明文。

Chicago presented new studies showing how food and its production affect global warming. They offered some suggestions for how to eat in a more environmentally friendly way.For many years, scientists have warned us that our planet is getting warmer. If current trends continue, animals may start to die off and life could get very difficult for everyone. The temperature is rising because humans have been releasing massive amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which surround the planet and keep heat from escaping. One of these gases is carbon dioxide. Most carbon dioxide we produce comes from the process of making and eating food, the scientists reported in Chicago. The production of meat contributes to a lot of carbon dioxide. And much of meat’s contribution comes from beef, which is responsible for releasing even more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The process of making a hamburger, for example, requires a lot of energy.A cow has to be fed and raised, and cow’s wastes are a major source of greenhouse gases. After the cow is killed, the meat has to be processed and shipped to a consumer, which takes fuel. And most of the cow won’t even be used for meat people eat.By the time a hamburger finally lands on a dinner plate,it has taken a heavy toll on the environment. It is believed that the process of making a half-pound all-beef burger adds about 19 times the weight of hamburgers in carbon dioxide. The message is clear:We can greatly reduce the production of greenhouse gases by eating less beef.Other kinds of meat like pork and chicken do less harm to the environment—at least in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases released.Nathan Pelletier,a scientist at Dalhousie University in Canada, reported that if everyone in industrial countries ate chicken instead of beef,we would cut the Earth’s greenhouse gases by more than half. All kinds of meat, the scientists reported, are harder on the planet than vegetables. To grow and eat a pound of potatoes, for example, sends less than one quarter pound of carbon dioxide into the air.So shifting our diet to less meat and more vegetables may do the world some good.36.The text mainly tells us ________.A.what we eat can affect the whole planetB.the way we live affects the environmentC.how we can save energy on the EarthD.how we can produce environment-friendly food37.What is likely to happen if the climate is getting warmer according to the passage?A.Sea level will continue to rise sharply.B.Human beings won’t have enough food.C.It would be very hard for man to survive.D.All the animals and plants will disappear.38.Why does the author mention the process of making a hamburger?A.To show meat is usually part of a hamburger.B.To illustrate that our food contributes to greenhouse gases.C.To prove making a hamburger is a complex process.D.To suggest a lot of energy is needed to make hamburgers.39.The author believes one effective way to fight global warming is ________.A.we should eat no pork and no chickenB.we should eat more chicken than beefC.we should eat not meat but vegetablesD.we should eat less meat and more vegetables40.Which of the following statements would Nathan Pelletier agree to?A.Eating pork and chicken is more environmentally friendly.B.Meat consumption is the main cause of greenhouse gases.C.People in industrial countries consume more beef than fish.D.Eating more beef is a more efficient way to save more energy.答案Ⅰ.单项填空1.D 2.B[burst(感情的)爆发。

Reading Comprehension(20 points)AThere are three separate sources of danger in generating electricity by nuclear power(原子能).First, the radioactive material must travel from its place of production to the power station. Although the power stations themselves are strongly built, the containers used for the transport of the materials are not. Normally, only two methods of transport are in use, namely road or rail. Unfortunately, both of these may have an effect on the general public, since they are sure to pass near, or even through, heavily populated(人口稠密) areas.Second, there is the problem of waste. All nuclear power stations produce wastes that in most cases will remain radioactive for thousands of years. It is impossible to make these wastes non-radioactive, and so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientists have invented. For example, they may be buried under the ground, or dropped into deserted mines, or sunk in the sea. However, these methods do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily break the containers.Third, there may occur the danger of a leak (泄漏) or an explosion at power station. As with the other two dangers, this is not very likely, so it does not provide a serious objection to the nuclear program. However, it can happen.Separately, these three types of dangers are not a great cause for worry. Taken together, though, the probability of disaster is extremely high.31. The underlined word “generating”(Paragraph One) most probably means __________.。

But Blanche Caffiere, a very kind librarian and teacher I've never written about publicly before, also had a huge influence on me.When I first met Mrs. Caffiere, she was the elegant and engaging school librarian at Seattle's View Ridge Elementary School, and I was a shy fourth grader. I was desperately trying to go unnoticed, because I had some big deficits, like terrible handwriting and a messy desk. And I was trying to hide the fact that I liked to read something that was cool for girls but not for boys.Mrs. Caffiere took me under her wing and helped make it okay for me to be a messy and nerdy boy who was reading lots of books. She pulled me out of my shell by sharing her love of books. She started by asking questions like “What do you like to read?” and “What are you interested in?”. Then she found me a lot of books—ones that were more complex and challenging than Tom Swift Jr.'s science fiction books I was reading at the time. For example, she gave me great biographies she had read. Once I'd read them, she would make time to discuss them with me. She sincerely listened to what I was saying. Through those conversations about books in the library and in the classroom we became good friends.Looking back on it now, there's no question that my time with Mrs. Caffiere helped spark my interest in libraries [the first large-scale effort of Melinda and me in philanthropy(慈善)] and my focus on helping every child in America get the benefit of great teachers. It's remarkable how much power one good person can have in shaping the life of a child.4.We can learn from the passage that the author was before he met Mrs. Caffiere.A.a student who wanted to drop out of schoolB.not able to read and writeC.hated by other boysD.not self-confident5.What does the underlined word deficits in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?A.Accidents.B.Strengths.C.Problems.D.Concerns.6.Mrs. Caffiere helped the author by.A.sharing reading reflections with himB.telling him he was not a messy boyC.hiding him in the libraryD.listening to his complaint7.What is the last paragraph mainly about?A.The author's interest in libraries.B.Mrs. Caffiere's influence on the author's life.C.The author's achievements later in his life.D.The importance of a good person in society.C(2021山东师范大学附属中学高一上期中,中)Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends—532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them. But is it possible that Kaylee's online friendships could be making her lonely? That's what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendships.Could this be true? During your parents' childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words with Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other.Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teen sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of this time is spent on social media platforms(平台).In fact, in many ways, online communication can make friendships stronger. “There's definitely a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendships. “If we are constantly checking in with our virtual worlds, we will have little time for our real-world friendships,” says Larry Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today's kids might mistake the “friends” on the social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don't need someone to like your picture or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.8.What is the purpose of the first paragraph?A.To summarize the text.B.To talk about true friends.C.To bring up a discussion.D.To encourage online friendship.9.What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in Paragraph 3?A.In any case.B.In person.C.In full measure.D.In advance.10.What is Katie's attitude towards online communication?A.Worried.B.Unconcerned.C.Confused.D.Positive.11.What view does Rosen hold?A.It's wise to turn to friends online.B.It's easier to develop friendships in reality.C.Teenagers need focus on real-world friendships.D.Social media help people stay closely connected.D(中)Teenagers in the US know they'll probably need technical skills to land good jobs, but a new survey suggests that interest in technical careers may be decreasing (减少).The percentage of boys aged 13 to 17 who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math(or STEM)careers dropped from 36 percent in 2017 to 24 percent this year, according to a survey by Junior Achievement USA. The percentage of girls interested in STEM careers stayed unchanged at 11 percent. But the 1,000 survey participants still named technology as one of two key skills that would be necessary for preparing them for their future careers.“Kids don't understand where technology can be applied outs ide of computers, coding (编码) and maybe robotics,” said Tammera L. Holmes, president of aviation consulting firm AeroStar Consulting Corporation. “That's all they know, so they can't really link that interest to career pathways (职业道路).”When Holmes was in high school, her mom sent her to an event that featured (以……为特色) the Tuskegee Airmen, famous military (军事的)pilots from World War Ⅱ. One of the pilots took her for air travel. “I was 16 years old, flying over Lake Michigan and facing down the skyline, and I knew immediately that was the career for me,” she said.Women remain outnumbered by men in fields like technology. For people working to increase the number of women in these areas, the lack of growth in girls' interest in STEM careers is concerning.“Teenage girls are more interested than their male classmates in pursuing (追求) careers in which they can help others,” said Ed Grocholski from Junior Achievement. “Even with all theprograms aimed at increasing girls' interest in STEM, I don't think we really talk that much about how we improve people's lives through STEM,” said Grocholski.“Society needs to do better in making those connections for kids,” said Katherine Latham, the founder of an engineering firm. She used civil engineering (土木工程) as an example of a career that would continue to be crucial. However, the fact that students knew they would need technical skills in their future careers was encouraging. The second skill they said they would need is relationship-building.“That's going to be the new breed (类型) of engineers,” said Latham.12.What is the reason behind kids' falling interest in technical careers?A.They find technical careers too boring.B.They find technical skills are less important than before.C.They can't connect their interest with future careers.D.They don't think technical careers are rewarding enough.13.What started Holmes' interest in her current career?A.A documentary about the life of pilots.B.A summer camp for trainee pilots.C.Her parents' wish for her to become a pilot.D.Her flight experience with a pilot.14.According to Grocholski, teenage girls are more interested in careers that .A.can improve people's livesB.will make them look beautifulC.are different from those of their parentsD.can socialize more with other people15.What is the article mainly about?A.The popularity of technical careers among kids and its reasons.B.The change of kids' interest in technical careers and the reasons behind it.C.The different careers boys and girls in the US will pursue.D.Some examples of kids pursuing technical careers successfully.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Unit 4第一节阅读理解AAfter the earthquake had stopped, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman's house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshipping(礼拜); her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supported by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head. With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescue team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman's body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure.He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruined house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his hand through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement,“A child! There is a child!”The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3monthold little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mother's dead body. Obviously, the woman had made a sacrifice for saving her son. When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up.The medical doctor came quickly to examine the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cellphone. There was a text message on the screen. It said, “If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.”This cell phone was passed around from one hand to another. Everybody that read the message wept. “If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” Such is the mother's love for her child!【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。
